Kerry: Obama Could Help US Relations with Muslim Nations 'Because He's a Black Man'
March 20, 2008 2:45 PM
In an interview with Massachusetts' SouthCoastToday (watch it HERE), Obama-backing Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., says among other reasons he's supporting Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, is his belief that "it would be such an affirmation of who we say we are as a people. if we could elect an African-American president, young leader, who is obviously visionary about the ability to inspire people."
Kerry said that a President Obama would help the US, in relations with Muslim countries, "in some cases go around their dictator leaders to the people and inspire the people in ways that we can't otherwise."
"He has the ability to help us bridge the divide of religious extremism," Kerry said. "To maybe even give power to moderate Islam to be able to stand up against this radical misinterpretation of a legitimate religion."
Kerry was asked what gives Obama that credibility.
"Because he's African-American. Because he's a black man. Who has come from a place of oppression and repression through the years in our own country."
An African-American president would be "a symbol of empowerment" for those who have been disenfranchised around the world, Kerry said, "an important lesson for America to show Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, other places in the world where disenfranchised people don't get anything."

I regret I voted for you in 2004. I truly question your integrety and judgement. You are a stupid barack hussien obama. Massachusetts - - Please vote idiot kerry out of the Senate.

Of course, like always, the Obama camp playing the race card. Senator Kerry, I voted for you. I may only be a "typical white person" to you, Obama and his supporters, but I am Democrat. If he wins this nomination, my vote goes to anybody but Obama.
Posted by: PMC | Mar 30, 2008 4:24:17 PM
The reason we wound up with Kerry as the nominee in 2004 is because the process ended too soon. He was an awful candidate and if we had continued on with the primaries, maybe we wouldn't have been stuck with him. When will the democratic party stop letting red and reddish state democrats vote first and choose who our nominees are. This is whacked on it's face.

Kerry is a "typical white man" commenting on a "typical black man" in the manner of a "typical politician."
Posted by: Dan, St. Louis | Mar 22, 2008 11:31:10 AM
Kerry's comment is wrong on so many levels (not to mention both sexist and racist). This lifelong Democrat is switching to Independent for good and voting for McCain if Obama is the only other choice. The recent developments revealing Obama's long time affiliation with a racist based church and Wright have done a lot of damage to race relations which the MSM isn't even addressing.

Susan gets the gold star!
What Kerry and the other liberal politikos don't understand is that Obama, since his conversion to Christianity, would be considered "Apostate" in the Muslim/Islamist world. Not someone who they would invite home to dinner.
Posted by: Daddy-o | Mar 22, 2008 8:36:38 AM
Was Kerry speaking as a "Typical White Person?"
Odd that the only qualification 'lurch' can come up with is that Obama is Black.
Posted by: Lew Waters | Mar 21, 2008 9:02:32 PM
John Kerry ranks very high among the fools of this generation. He is a proven liar. He has been called a coward by some according to his anti-American comments and his war record in South East Asia. He is also dangerous because he would attempt to negoptiate with evil, a sure plan for failure. Simply because Obama speaks well and is Black doesn't assure that he can achieve any more success with the Islamic terrorists than have the non-Black people who have tried to find peace in the Middle East. It is so sad that when the name "Kerry" is mentioned it evokes a similar reaction as does the name "Carter". Appeasement does not mean victory!

wow.....since when does race or gender qualify anyone to hold public office? Honestly, reading these comments, I am flabbergasted. Our country is screwed, no matter who gets into office-look at who's voting!!!

to me if obama becomes president it is the first step to the end of the world. when Israel's only friend in the world becomes her worst enemy ( with President obama) it will be apocalypse now

Pastor's Wife said it well. Character and integrity are the issues and we are starting to see who has it and who doesn't. Wright, Obama, Kennedy, Kerry, Richardson and so many others are proving that their character, their integrety and their judgement are in question.
What tune is being played on that Obama bandwagon? Do I hear "Death to America"? Should we re-write the "Star Spangled Banner" so that there is no mention of being proud, no gallantry and of course no land of the free.
Posted by: J. Russell | Mar 21, 2008 4:51:15 PM
Does that mean, if Obama was White, Kerry wouldn't think he would be a great canidate?
Trying to see the difference between Kerry and Ferrero now....isn't Kerry pretty much saying what Ferrero said?.... Lucky that he is AA
please check all that applies.... but only if is to your advantage.... Obama's campaign

My husband is a pastor. People in our church know the content of his character after sitting under his ministry for years. They know his ideals, his values and what he stands for. Obama has been under Jeremiah Wright's ministry for 20 years. There is no way he did NOT know the true content of his character. The only reason he has come out now and renounced what Wright has said about whites, Jews and America is because it is politically expedient for him to do so. John Kerry (and now Bill Richardson) are ignorant fools to back this man who has absolutely NO experience to be president. Sure he's young, charismatic and can whip a crowd into an almost religious frenzy, but those are not qualifications for President.

And this guy was the demo nominee in 04! Is this really the best we can come up with for pres in this country? Obama, Clinton, McCain, Bush, Dole, Kerry and on and on and on. I don't see a leader in any of those political hacks. These Obama kool aid drinkers need to wake up.

Another moron heard from. The Democratic Party is on the verge of imploding. It's appropriate for this time of year, because they literally can screw up the Easter Parade. They managed to make a cakewalk into a three ring circus. I, for one, am sick of it. After 63 years as a Democrat, I'm finally disgusted enough to change my affiliation. I will register as an Independent from here on out and in protest will vote for John McCain in November. At least I know where he came from.

When is everyone going to understand that relations between the US and Muslim nations will not improve until the US adopts Islam and Sharia Law. Infidels must convert or be killed. No if's and's or but's. Electing Obama will please radical Islam more than anything. They see Obama as someone they can more easily sway to their ideology. People wake up!

You guys that think that the world will love America because of a black president live in the land of Oz. I compare it to the false notion of Europe respecting the USA. I have been to Europe many time for many years and even in the Clinton era I was shocked how much the establishment, press and many people despites America (or perhaps envy America). So thinking that as soon as Bush is out Muslims and European will love us, that is a quite naive thought. As long as we maintain the position of leaders of the world and #1 power, we will not be loved nor liked. Human nature is that we all try to bring down, embarrassed, or defeat anyone who is in first place. Open your eyes and believe!

This is starting to look like a front man sales job. Just like Bush. I mean no one really thinks he was running things in the beginning, or really even now. He was just the "nice, peacemaker, cross the isles, get things done, guy you wanted to have a beer with."
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that just what he's saying with the addition that isn't it convenient that Obamas black. He is just their front guy, to look black and young, to sound good and inspirational, while he and Bradley run things. Bet

To those of you saying that you regret your vote for Kerry in 2004: As stupid as Kerry's remarks were, and as misguided he was to endorse Obama, and no matter all of the mistakes he made in the 2004 election, please keep in mind that he still would have been a better president that W.

My ex-b/f who is from Jordan and is Muslim refused to listen to any music that was "black" because he hated blacks so I guess Kerry's theory is not all that ironclad. Many muslims destest blacks for some reason. What Kerry doesn't know would fill a 500 page book 10 times over. He is literally an idiot.

The first qualification to be commander in chief is you must be proud to be an American. Between Barack and Michelle Obama...there doesn't seem to be much America has done that they are proud of. They can take themselves and their America hating preacher back to Illinois where they can all live happily ever after in the house that Rezko built.
Posted by: mona | Mar 21, 2008 1:15:28 AM
I've enjoyed all the race crap I can stand. If Obama sat in that church on Sundays for so many years I will never believe that he didn't hear what was said. The only thing that could have salvaged his credibility was to get up and leave after the very first remark and never go back. Who does he think he's fooling? If he wants to be someone’s victim or is satisfied to let someone else be a victim then he's not presidential material.

University of Iowa, I lock my doors and feel insecure in any "bad" neighborhood no matter what color the people are. If I see a black man in casual attire who doesn't have that "could be a criminal" appearance, I don't feel insecure. The whole locking doors thing is a favorite comic line.
Posted by: irma | Mar 20, 2008 10:57:29 PM
For somebody who wanted to transcend race and move politics into a post-racial era, Mr. Obama seems to sense a great opportunity to use race to advance his candidacy. That much for the post-racial era.
After his speech, his surrogates seem to be stoking the American guilt by outwardly pointing us to the "blackness" of Mr. Obama. Awkward as he always is, Mr. Kerry is making us believe that the people in the Muslim world will respect America, while America gets roiled in more divisive racial politics, thanks to Ms. Ferraro, Pastor Wright, Mr. Obama and his surrogates, commentators, and the media.
Perhaps this strategy of using race to one's advantage may work in the short run, but I do not know how long this will last.
At least now, some of us realize that the "Saint Obama veil" covering the ordinary and manipulative politician has dropped. Now, he joins the ranks of rest of the candidates. The difference in misrepresentation, manipulation, and deception is one of degree than of kind between the candidates now.
Not too bad, for the politics in America has maintained remarkably similar undertones for over a century.

Let's face it folks. If you clutch you're purse, lock you're doors, or walk on the other side or the side walk just because you see a typical black person. Then this would apply to you. Look I'm white as American Pie. I do it...Real conversation.
I'm glad that Obama is speaking on what most of us have lived with.

what sen. kerry really wanted to say is that president obama will heal relations with muslim countries because his middle name is hussien and muslims feel that he was born as a muslim not because he is black.
what he fails to grasp is that muslims also hate the people who desert islam.

Many people in Massahusetts did not want to buy the Axelrod "Hope-Change-Justword" brand. Axelrod's first product Devel Patrick, the current MA governor, has not lived up to the hype.

Obama graduated from the exclusive private Punahou High School in Hawaii. He attended Occidential College, a small private college in Los Angeles. He graduated from Columbia University, a private university in New York City. And, received his law degree from Harvard University, a private university. Both Columbia and Harvard are considered ivy league schools.

If you listen to Senator Kerry's full comments he makes perfect sense. His suggestion is a very wise one. And, frankly, I see nothing wrong with the comments at all. Of course, when you take anything out of context and splice it together you can make it sound any way you like. Why someone would do this thought is beyond me. Senator Kerry has offered his support to Senator Obama, he is not a member of his campaign.
Could it be to get back at him for not supporting Senator Clinton? I have to wonder. I also have to wonder is there isn't some collusion going on between the Clinton's and the media to push all of this nonsense about Obama and now Kerry.

Talk about free media now that he is in crisis mode.
Too late obama, you have surrounded yourself with Muppets and they have advised you very badly!
Stay out of public and let this cool off. People are associating you with Wright and going on TV to explain the race and all the other blunders you have made is going to add more fuel to the fire...

Mr. Kerry: Would it not be just as inspirational to the rest of the world and the majority of females who inhabiat it to see a woman elected president! Would this not be inspiring to muslim women who would say if the United States of America is willing to elect a woman would this not stir muslim women world wide to challenge their goverments to treat them a equal citizens. Mr. Kerry being a male fails to grasp the fact that Hillary could be an inspirational leader showing women world wide that they can accomplish anything! Women Mr. Kerry, Yes They Can!!

I guess the JFK legacy didn't work for Kerry and Kennedy so they have to adapt. But saying Obama should be elected because he's black doesn't say much for qualifications. I guess 8 years of Bush has led to the dumbing down of the presidency and any candidate will do. Even Obama with his African-centric beliefs and racist church affiliations.

Moses-Have to correct you my friend. Most of America's oil comes from CANADA. Next Mexico, and then from good old Hugo Chavez.

HE IS NOT BLACK. WHITE PEOPLE DON'T PERCEIVE HIM AS BLACK AND BLACK PEOPLE DON'T IDENTIFY HIM AS BLACK EITHER.
TALK ABOUT PLAYING BOTH ENDS OF THE FIDDLE.
GET OFF THE RACE ISSUE. ONCE AGAIN, HE IS NOT BLACK

Ever since Mr. Obama started his campaign he and his supporters have made much of the fact that it is not important that he is black, that he is not running as a black canidate but just happens to be a canidate who is black. Kerry and Kennedy have praised the fact that he is a canidate that has transended race and his appeal has nothing to do with the fact that he is black. They are proud to point out that he is wining because the american people have looked beyond color and see him as a visionay and unifying leader.
Now it appears that Mr. Kerry is saying that the central reason why he would make a great president is that he is black and therefore have a greater ability to work with muslim countries. It appears that those who support Mr. Obama are willing to use his color as they wish in order to promote his canidacy. If it is the american electorate then Kerry says don't look at his skin color if it is forgein policy then look at his skin color. Kerry and other can't have it both ways you can't say we should be color blind in one instance and predisposed to it in another, no that is not logical. It appears that Kerry is using race as a politicl advantage when they seed the need for it and play it down when they see it is not. This playing of race is the old style politics that Mr. Obama has said that he is running against. Well it appears that Kerry and others are resorting to it when they are in trouble. That can't be the change Mr. Obama is talking about!

Another train wreck coming...
This is even more embarrassing than Obama's "typical white granny" story. I'd love to see Axlerod's face today!

Do you guys remember when Kerry said:
" People in the army are not smart enough to go to College"
How can BO have this man on his campaign.

I dunno.........I guess one may think "Goddamn America" will go over well worldwide. Yes, Obama, did not say this BUT Wright is UN-American and Wright is also Obama's spiritual mentor and friend and so much more. One speech does not make this relationship disappear.
