More Wright Stuff

March 27, 2008 7:54 PM

Some more controversial, even offensive, material emanating from Sen. Obama's church, Trinity United Church of Christ in the South Side of Chicago, and Rev. Jeremiah Wright. This material attacks Israel, Italians, and the US government.

1) ISRAEL BUILT AN ETHNIC BOMB TO KILL ARABS

The June 10, 2007 church newsletter on the Pastor's Page includes some rather incendiary charges -- made by an Arab-American activists -- claiming that Israel worked with South Africa to develop an "ethnic bomb that kills Blacks and Arabs."

2) SLURRING ITALIANS

New York Newsday reports that in the Dec. 2007 edition of the Trumpet magazine, published by Rev. Wright's daughter, the pastor in a eulogy for Asa Hilliard wrote that Jesus's "enemies had their opinion about Him... The Italians for the most part looked down their garlic noses at the Galileans." He calls the crucifixion "a public lynching Italian style" executed in "Apartheid Rome."

3) THE US GOVERNMENT IS RUN BY WHITE SUPREMACISTS

In that same eulogy Wright says that the US "government runs everything from the White House to the schoolhouse, from the Capitol to the Klan, white supremacy is clearly in charge, but Asa, like Jesus, refused to be defined by an oppressive government because Asa got his identity from an Omnipotent God."

3) HAMAS OP-ED

Bizzyblog has published the July 22, 2007 church newsletter in which Wright reprints an article by Mousa Abu Marzook, deputy of the political bureau of Hamas, which the US government named a terrorist organization in 1995. (UPDATE: The full Bizzyblog post on this can be read here.)

Marzook was named a Specially Designated Terrorist by the Treasury Department In 2004, the Justice Department indicted Marzook for conspiring to violate U.S. laws that prohibit dealings in terrorist funds.

The op-ed was first published on the Los Angeles Times op-ed page.

Sen. Obama in an interview to air Friday on ABC's "The View" says he did not read the bulletins in his church. "I don't purchase all the DVD's and I didn't read all the church bulletins," Obama told the ladies of "The View". "People are mixes of good and bad. I saw mostly the good, there were some things that I disagreed with. But I didn’t see some of the things that were said that I would have taken offense to."

Obama also said he's spoken to Wright since the controversy erupted. "I talked to him after this episode; he had come back from a cruise. I think he’s saddened by what’s happened, and I told him I feel badly that he has been characterized just in this one way, and people haven’t seen this broader aspect of him."

The person out of their comfort zone appeared to be Whoopie Goldberg. Why?

When Clinton made a mistake, she owned up to it. When Barack makes a mistake, he gives a speech about being misunderstood. Now that is 'victim mentality' in a knutshell.

Dean and Pelosi can burn down every house from Pennsylvania Avenue to the Yellow Brick Road. Obama cannot win the general election.

Obama joined this church on his own in his 20's. He then stayed in this church for 20 years. The Pastor is his mentor.

To say that he was oblivious to the Wright's anti-American teachings is just not believable. Even after he knew of the 911 comment...even after he disinvited Wright to his campaign kickoff...he still put him on his campaign.

To say that he would have left the Church if his Pastor hadn't retired is not believable.

Obama has convinced most of the media that this is about race...while Wright has said some dispicable things about race and nationalities....the problem for Obama is that his Pastor is un-American.

"I am not interested in having, in wallowing in a, lengthy conversation about race...."
-Barack Obama,
ABC World News

Clinton supports that is our vindication. His "greatest speech ever, let's start a discourse on race" was just to save himself.

This is so STUPID. Until you have proof that Obama himself made statements similiar to what Reverend Wright made then the media have no grounds on focusing on this "controversy".

Posted by: Micheline | Mar 28, 2008 10:52:29 AM

why didn't you mention all of Sen Obama's comments - that if he had heard and read all of these and Wright had not been retiring he WOULD HAVE left the Church. He has clearly and repeatedly denounced those types of comments, and they are not reflective of his opinions and beliefs. end of story. let's move on to the real issues.

What does Mr. Hope has to say about these newsletters? Is he claiming that he did not know about these too? If so, then he is the most ignorant man in this planet.

"I am not interested in having, in wallowing in a, lengthy conversation about race. What I was trying to do in the speech was point out that we often use racial divisions, or politicians also often use racial divisions, as a way of ignoring the common problems like terrorism, or the foreclosure crisis. And so, my argument is not that we should focus obsessively on race. My argument is, we should acknowledge the dangers of racial division. Precisely in order to pivot and focus on those problems that we all have as common Americans."- Barack Obama

Obama doesn't want to have a "race" discourse!

Posted by: John | Mar 28, 2008 10:24:56 AM

So Obama "didnt know" about the racist flyers, didn't know about his BFF Wright's racist views or awarding Farakkhan a liferime achievement award, didn't know , didn't know...
I guess if he does get the nod, instead of "I don't recall" from our so called "leaders" the meme will be they "didn't know"
If he "didn't know" his pal was a racist and his church was racist then he is far too unaware of things to be President. I guess he "didn't know" Rezco was a Syrian thug backed by an Iraqui thug either. The man LIED straight faced to the American public on TV and his minions harp on Hillary's misremembering the exact situation in Tuzla over a decade ago? She DID participate and WAS there in Bosnia, where was Barack?
Oh, that's right he has ZERO fireign policy experience.
He is a wolf in sheeps clothing and lies when the truth would serve him better but his Obamabots give him a pass no matter how much he lies and hides the facts about his financial supporters and his shady friends.
Wake up people, Obama is a fraud. He isn't the second coming like you think he is. He is dividing our country already! Uniter? HA HA

Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda

Obama is getting creamed by the Rev. Wright revelations, even though Democratic primary voters aren't paying attention. It will be quite different in the general, as most of us who deal in the world of political reality know. Obviously, Obama watched what Clinton did a couple of days ago. So he's decided to play a very simple game. It's called Follow the Leader. Oh, and for you Obama fans, your guy isn't the one leading. Because after sitting in the pews of Trinity for 20 years, admitting he'd heard some of Wright's screeds, after he said he didn't, Barack Obama still couldn't figure out the right thing to do until Clinton demonstrated it for him a couple of days ago.

So if you're one of those people buying his latest "Had the reverend not retired, and had he not acknowledged that what he had said had deeply offended people and were inappropriate and mischaracterized what I believe is the greatness of this country, for all its flaws, then I wouldn't have felt comfortable staying at the church," well, then I've got a country you can buy cheap. It's on sale for suckers.

Please stop deceiving the voters with the unifier and brilliant line. Obama is neither. He defends and stands by his low class, hate spewing, anti-american, unpatriotic, terrorist supporter uncle, mentor, good friend Wright. No wonder Wright officiated the wedding, Michelle and Barack are perfect for each other, two people that should be expelled from the country.

Al Gore doesn't even like POLITICS!

He said his passion is the environment and that is why he is not RUNNING or did not run this year!

I rather have a President who had an affair(clinton or jfk) than a morally perfect president who has failed our nation(bush)!

Posted by: John | Mar 28, 2008 3:10:42 AM

Bill's affair hurt America. This country was distracted from some very important issues. Impeachment was a huge drama.

The Clintons were selfish. They should have resigned. Then Al Gore would have been President.

Posted by: Sally | Mar 28, 2008 3:04:54 AM

Sally, that was tasteless and ruthless. I'd expect that from a Republican, not a fellow Democrat. Bill cheating on Hillary didn't hurt anyone except Hillary.Wright is teaching African Americans and others to hate their country.

Posted by: John | Mar 28, 2008 3:01:48 AM

I stand by my guilt by association comment. I don't approve of infidelity to your spouse. That is a betrayal. I don't approve of lying under oath. That is criminal.

So Hillary stood by and watched it all happen. If she did not leave, is she then guilty of Bill's sins because not leaving meant she approved of her husband?

Clearly Reverend Wright is a sinner. He falls short of the Glory of the Lord. But should Obama be tainted by another man's wrongdoings?

Posted by: Sally | Mar 28, 2008 2:59:57 AM

Sally - I hope you never feel the pain of being cheated on by another and then blamed by others for an action beyond your control. In any case, he may be a cheater but he was one of the greatest Presidents in history and stands heads above anyone like Wright. I dont judge Hillary for Bill's actions. I do judge her for her own as a US Senator... not as a wife. I dont judge Obama as a US Senator because of Wright, but I do judge Obama because of his own actions to continue to be a member of, give money to, and defend a church and its pastors (Wright is still a pastor with TUCC.) as they teach and promote black separatism and support ethnic cleansing and terrorism. These issues alone are inappropriate for any US Senator to support both with his own money and his failure to file charges of sedition.

Posted by: DCVoter | Mar 28, 2008 2:52:34 AM

If people were responsible for the actions of other people, then Hillary is responsible for having sex with Monica.

She didn't leave Bill, so Hillary must have approved, right?

Does guilt by association make any sense to you?

Posted by: Sally | Mar 28, 2008 2:44:38 AM

Dear Obama True Believers, your candidate is toast. And all the deflection to Hillary or equivocation of institutionalized racism is getting you no new votes. I believe I have the 'garlic noses' constituency backing me up on that one today.

Speaking of institutionalized racism, what about minority scholarships I and every other white person in America are ineligble for, or minority job fairs sponsored by major corporations I am shut out of because of the color of my skin? Is THAT what MLK had in mind in "I Have A Dream"?

If you want to take it to the next level, how was what happened at Duke LAST YEAR any different from what happened at Scottsboro 80 years ago?

Young men accused of raping a woman of a different race, a racial lynch mob screaming for blood before the press ink is even dry, and a corrupt prosecutor who just might have sent them all to prison for the rest of their lives.

Yet outside of Nifong, all the racebaiters and hatemongers who stoked the flames to the sky, like Sharpton, Jackson and the 88 Duke professors who signed a Proclamation of Gulit before the jury was even picked, got to walk away scott-free in serach of fresh white game. THAT'S JUSTICE???

Lastly, I grew up poor, like millions of other whites, in a mean mixed-raced urban housing project. I could tell you horror stories of the black racism I've encountered, including a near-stabbing because of my skin color ONLY! I've grown up in as close to the 'black experience' as any white boy ever could.

There's plenty of grievances to go around if you want to go down that road. I choose not to. I observe, remember and move on with my life, chalking it up the fact that a large contingent of the population will always despise me for my skin color no matter what. Like Wright, for example.

Obama has refused to remove the Wright albatross from around his neck, and that is what will sink him in the general election with whites, Jews, veterans, the families of 9/11 victims and now Italians. And all the flowery speeches in the world will not make us forget that he continues to call this racist anti-American head case his spiritual mentor. Personally, I don't see the spirituality in him.

Obama's Titanic of a campaign has run full speed into the Wright iceberg, and he refuses to pull back even as he is sinking. Saying that he would have disowned him when he still refuses to to this day is disingenuous at best.

Maybe it's time for him to go back to Chicago. He will be more than welcome to attend all the hate speech sermons he likes. But not as President. My biggest question at this point is, why does the black community in America continue to honor blatant in-your-face racists like 'Tawana Brawley' Sharpton, 'Hymietown' Jackson and 'US of KKK-A' Wright with the position and title of Reverend? I see nothing holy in ANY of them!

Posted by: JohnnyT | Mar 28, 2008 2:43:35 AM

1exnew - I think he would be more likely suspected of sedition. People have been found guilty of that for far less than we have already seen from Wright. Perhaps there are charges pending? I feel sure this is not being overlooked by the RNC and the current administration even though I despise the RNC.

Posted by: DCVoter | Mar 28, 2008 2:42:23 AM

Since he's advocating violent overthrow of the government, why has Wright not been deported?

Posted by: 1exnewyorker | Mar 28, 2008 2:37:39 AM

Wright is about to move to a 10,340-square-foot, four-bedroom home in suburban Chicago, currently under construction in a gated community. Valued at $1.6M with an attached $10M line of credit for Wright's use. All part of his retirement package. The law does not require the church to stipulate what the money is used for of course. It will be interesting to see if there are ties to Obama and Rezko on this one as well. TUCC has an 8000 member congregation in a very poor and destitute community. I guess they don't see any good reason to help the people with all these riches they have taken from them? Is Wright another Jim Baker?
