NAFTA SHAFTA
March 03, 2008 7:14 AM
The AP's Nedra Pickler obtained a Canadian government memo written after the senior economic adviser to Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, met with members of the Canadian consulate -- a memo that seems to back up the Canadian Television story and ABC News follow-up reports indicating that Obama's campaign sent signals to our neighbors to the North that his anti-NAFTA rhetoric should not be taken seriously.
Obama adviser Austan Goolsbee's comments were summed up by Canadian consulate staffer Joseph DeMora this way: "Noting anxiety among many U.S. domestic audiences about the U.S. economic outlook, Goolsbee candidly acknowledged the protectionist sentiment that has emerged, particularly in the Midwest, during the primary campaign. He cautioned that this messaging should not be taken out of context and should be viewed as more about political positioning than a clear articulation of policy plans."
Goolsbee disputed the characterization, telling the AP, "this thing about `it's more about political positioning than a clear articulation of policy plans,' that's this guy's language. He's not quoting me....I certainly did not use that phrase in any way."
The Obama campaign over the weekend falsely claimed the CTV story had been "retracted." It has not.
And in fact, the story seems today more alive than ever. That is, if the press does its job.
If.

geevil,
That's a good one about Obama saying Canada had a President . . . kind of reminds me of the time that Senator Clinton thought that Musharaff was a candidate in those parlimentary elections in Pakistan! Good times! :)

subprime,
African Americans are voting for Barack Obama for the same reason that other Americans are - because he is the best candidate!
Obama '08

Ok keep this in mind Barack Hussein Obama has been caught many times now lying to the American people, first about his syupport for the war, and now NAFTA. If he changes NAFTA anyhow you will definitly see oil go over 4$ a gallon and Hugo chavez will be happy from what he said already!
Obama is a Fraud, anyone that votes for him is brian dead!

WASHINGTON - U.S. Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama has been trying to burnish his foreign policy credentials.
So it didn't help when he called Canada's leader a "president" during a debate Tuesday in Chicago.
Asked what he'd do about the North American trade deal, Obama said it needs changes, so he'd "immediately call the president of Mexico (and) the president of Canada."
President of Canada.
even GW Bush is laughing at Obama.

This NAFTA thing just proves once again what a fraud Obama is. He is nothing more than a snake oil salesman blowing smoke into people's eyes and giving them the old razzle dazzle.

Yes, Barry I do know, I was trying to make a point that people are voting for someone they don't know anything about. They are voting because he is black. I was just making a point...I guess they should think twice about voting for him knowing he is one of candidates who is giving them the shaft on sub prime loans....

"If OBama voted for this why are the African American's voting for him?" -- subprime
You really don't know why African-Americans are voting for Barack???
Really?

tiredofit, the Republicans didn't go after Hillary Clinton. They went after President Clinton. It is true that during Kenneth Starr's Whitewater investigation some things about Hillary came up. But most of those that did were not within the scope of his investigation. So there are a lot of Hillary's questionable dealings that have never been investigated. But rest assured that they will come up in the general election should she win the nomination. In fact you can already read about many of these on the Internet.

Obama is two faced con artist.
Asks for regular people's vote but shuts the door against them when it comes to his voting record.
This is a wall streets candidate. Look at this record and what he has voted for.

If OBama voted for this why are the African American's voting for him? They are the majority who have subprime loans and now because of Obama they are getting the shaft....thanks for the savagepolitics link...just follow the money and you know exactly where obama stands...
On February 10, 2005, Obama voted in favor of the passage of the misnamed Class Action Fairness Act of 2005 which seriously hampers the rights of ordinary citizens to challenge corporations. Senators Biden, Boxer, Byrd, Clinton, Corzine, Durbin, Feingold, Kerry Leah, Reid and 16 other democrats voted against it.

Sorry, I meant to say, "for not having done more to rid Iraq of its WMDs."

At least Canada is doing what the MSM have not done this year; exposing Barack Obama and not letting him brush this little affair away.
Obama's associates in Chicago are piranhas, and they might have helped him in Chicago with finances but now they are all biting him in the butt.
I call it KARMA baby! what goes around comes around.

Dear Nobody's Fool
I made a boneheaded mistake when I said Kennedy voted for it.
However, as far as Hillary's baggage goes, Republicans were after her for 16 long years. Ken Starr spent millions of taxpayer dollars trying to get her.
Do you think that maybe over the years Republicans were at least able to get some of their swift boating slanderous rhetoric stick to her whether or not she deserved it? Mind you, Republicans went all out to get her and she is still not only standing, but is a two term Senator that is running for president of the USA.

tiredofit, you wrote: "Bush is the president and he is the person that did not give diplomacy nor the people looking for WMD's time."
Saddam Hussein was given TWELVE YEARS to fess up as to whether he still had WMDs or not. How much more time should we have given him? Also, if you recall (or have selectively chosen to forget), several of the leading Democrats said back in 1998 (when Congress gave President Clinton the authorization for regime change in Iraq) that Saddam Hussein would have nuclear weapons in five years. Let see...1998 plus 5 years...that would put it at 2003. If the Democrats HAD NOT LIED back in 1998, maybe we could have given Saddam Hussein a few more years. But we didn't know that THEY LIED until we actually went into Iraq. Only then did we know that Saddam Hussein mislead his neighbors and the rest of the world. But what if he had nuclear weapons in 2003 and we hadn't invaded Iraq. The only way we would have known was when they were used. And then you guys would have been all over President Bush for not done more to rid Iraq of its WMDs.

I trust CANADA any day over BHO & AXELROD!

I think this part of the story perfectly encapsulates exactly what the Obama campaign is about:
"The Obama campaign over the weekend falsely claimed the CTV story had been 'retracted.' It has not."

Canada is to be trusted and not questioned vs trusting shady Axelrod... I would question why Axelrod and his cronies never admit how shady they are. Canada exposed them and they look like rookie crooks from chicago. Obama and his shady advisor's will never EARN my VOTE!! You are all fooled and duped by this empty rhetoric and lofty promises that he will never be able to keep!! hahahah

"It appears as if once the Obama campaign believes that once it gets out of Ohio and can stop “courting” the economic populist vote they will be able to tone down their rhetoric. "
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Well, if someone types it up, it has to be true, right?
Posted by: Nobodys fool | Mar 3, 2008 3:10:30 PM
Red Green! Obscure? Bite your tongue.
Better yet, get some duct tape.
As for who to trust, I would trust Canadians over the likes of Axelrod any day of the week.

March 3, 2008 Part of the memo
In his closing section of the memo, DeMora said when Rioux "asked whether we could expect to hear more of this as the elections progressed, Goolsbee thought not. In fact, he mentioned that going forward the Obama camp was going to be careful to send the appropriate message without coming off too protectionist.
"As Obama continues to court the economic populist vote, particularly in upcoming contests like Ohio, we are likely to see a continuation of some of the messaging that hasn't played in Canada's favour but this should continue to be viewed in the context in which it is delivered.''
It appears as if once the Obama campaign believes that once it gets out of Ohio and can stop “courting” the economic populist vote they will be able to tone down their rhetoric. Does this statement mean Obama believes Ohioians are suckers or chumps that can be played like fools with a few sweet sounding words?
