Obama Charitable Giving, Part II

March 25, 2008 5:51 PM

Clearly feeling a bit stung by our earlier note that according to their 2000-2004 tax returns, Barack and Michelle Obama gave less than 1% of their income to charity, Obama campaign spox Tommy Vietor writes to note that even though their 2007 tax return is not yet ready, the Obamas "gave $240,000 to charity in 2007."

Mrs. Sarah Palin's(the darling of the evangelical right) 2007 % Charitable contributions over her AGI is 2.01%. 2.01%!!! She's on the bottom end of average giving for churchgoers!!! What happened to our 10% tithe?!! Sapphira!! Most of that, $2,500, being a NON-CASH (read tax reducing) contribution to the salvation army. - Ezra E.

I'd be interested to see how many of you Obama detractors bothered to contribute to charity throughout the years, and even more interested to see how much. DOn't throw stones if you live in a glass house.

The quality of an individual is measured by what he or she does for those who are less fortunate, when no one is watching. Barack and Michelle have proven themselves to be not too overly concerned about those in need. The average American household gives at twice the rate of the Obama's (2.2% of household earnings). The Obama's are Al and Tipper Gore all over again. They, like the Obama's, began caring for their fellow man with their money AFTER they decided to run for the White House. It's sad, truly sad.

For those of you who want to know of the Clinton's charitable giving here are some pre-presidential numbers to draw direct comparisons to the Obama's:

In 1989 the Clinton's gave $18,114 on income of $197,651 (almost 10%) and in 1990 they gave $36,875 on income of $268,646 (about 13-14%).

I'm no Hillary fan, but the Clinton's are charitable givers and have been for quite some time. Too bad we now know the Obama's are just political animals who at their core care little about those around them.

Funny how no one is mentioning McCain nor Clinton released their tax returns. For all I know, they may not have given anything to charity. And another thing, I would love to see most of the posters tax returns to see how much you all gave to charity yourselves. It's so sad that there is division in the Democratic party and even more sad that space is being wasted to discuss an issue that has nothing to do with this political contest.

The Obamas are cynical political animals. Of course they changed their tune at the last minute. Just like with Wright, Rezko.

Obama. He's not what he says he is.

You people are nuts. How much have the Clinton's given? What did Bill and Hillary give to charity? I don't mean now either!!! I mean what did they give then! And, then tell us what they give now - and not through that foundation which mostly serves foreign people!! Anyway, there is no law that says people have to give their hard earned money. The one thing I can't stand is a stupid voter.

Same old type of Politician

Don't forget initially the Senator from Illinois gave to charity $70,000 that his slumlord friend gave to his campaign. Then the Senator stated months later that the correct amount was $250,000. I am assuming that the difference of $180,000 went to charity.

If not then the Senator from Illinois needs to explain if he gave those monies back to his slumlord friend or did he use those monies to go on his recent vacation. Americans have the right to know the truth.

Of course for this politician, it is always later that one finds out the truth. He never tells the truth the "first" time around.

What a surprise, see libs are generous with your taxes but not with their own money!!

I guess all joke are routed in the truth

A Republican and a Dem are walking down the street they come upon a bum sitting on the street, The Republican gives the bum a dollar and a application for a job, the Dem says wow, and trying not to be out done they continue walking and come across another bum, the dem pickpockets the republican and gives 25% of the money to the bum and the rest he tells the bum is to go to the unions!

The Obama's gave a lot more than I did.

After reading all your posts, I am surprised that any charity in this country is needing anything more. All of our charity's coffers should be full since obviously you all give so much.

Be a true American patriot and STOP THE HATE instead of looking for stupid reasons to continue it.

Posted by: Elbram | Mar 26, 2008 2:52:51 PM

Who really cares about this? This story is for those simple minds who are looking for reasons to hate. Just how much money should they have given? What figure would have satisfied you? Answer: There is no amount that would have been enough.

I fully agree with jgaw, Hillary is the right choice.

We need to think about the country first.

Rhetoric pure and simple. Charity? No. A means to an end. A career path. Who's is better? At least I respect Bill and Hillary for the economic works and world class charity they have done. Has Obama put glasses on people in third world countries by setting up small business loans for AMERICAN entrepeneurs? BILL DID. Did Obama do anything for the economy of IL with out working with criminals? Will we find out before he gets to the WHITE HOUSE?
I don't care if Hillary didn't get a paycheck or a job description other than FIRST LADY. Arkansas was better off when they left it, than when they started there. I know I worked there then. And AMERICA was financially better off when the Clintons left the white house. So what matters? THE JOB. Let Hillary do the job. Bow out OBAMA. Your a ringer. Not the real deal. America's first Black President needs to be the real deal. You're going to lead this country into real DIVISIVENESS just by pretending to be someone you're not. And then where will racism in this country be? Let the Economy be the real issue.

Mika Brzeznski Of MSNBC "Good Morning Joe" News show in the morning, is the daughter of ZBIGNIEW BRZEZNSKI,One of Obama's Chief Foreign Policy Consultants, the fanatically antisemitic national security advisor of another fanatic antisemite, Jimmy Carter. If you liked Carter's foreign policy, you'll love Obama's.

Also, I find it ironic why Ms. Brzesnski is always dissing Hillary Clinton on the morning show, well now we know why.

And they call this un-bias reporting on MSNBC.

After all of Bill Clinton's accomplishments during 8 years in the White House, his widespread popularity even after he left his job, his fundraising efforts following the tsunamis and Katrina, Mrs. Clinton's attempt to pass universal health care well before it was a popular, her successful (and at least, full!) term in the Senate, how can anyone say that the Clintons are just political junkies running slash and burn campaigns, and promoting only own self interests? Though they clearly relish politics, and Bill Clinton has a few well known and overly discussed personal appetites, they are two people who care about each other and have been committed to serving their country since they were teenagers. The invidious attacks they continue to be subjected to speak more to the character of those who misrepresent them than to the character of the Clintons.

The 2007 monies the Obamas supposedly gave to Charity, 200,000.00 they had to give to charity because it was the $200,000.00 dirty campaign funds they got from the slum-lord Rezko.

"Obama campaign spox Tommy Vietor writes to note that even though their 2007 tax return is not yet ready, the Obamas "gave $240,000 to charity in 2007."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wonder if this is the money Obama received from Rezko and then was pressured into giving to charity??
A truly wonderful American story is unfolding, a black man, son of a single mother, of mixed heritage, from an under-privileged family, rising to become the President. As a white university professor, I, along with my children and grandchildren, am honored and privileged to be part of this great history in the making. Now, will America rise to the occasion and embrace this great change and truly unite, showing the world that ONLY in America this can happen, and that it really is the land of the free? Or, will those whose better judgement is clouded by petty prejudices and misconceptions continue the divisive tradition of ‘Us’ and ‘Them’, propagated by those politicians who firmly believe in their politics of divide and rule?
My thanks to Mike in Texas for the interesting blog about Obama (the pop star) and his many exaggerations. The tv media are ripping up Senator Clinton this morning about her Bosnia gaffe, but as always remain careful and polite in their remarks about Obama, which are almost always positive except on Fox News (Hannity doesn't see him as an American Idol star, and I don't either.)
Yet another example of Barak Obama style jive! Sen. Obama is all talk, and very little action! How can he hold a candle to charitable work Bill Clinton has done around the world? David Brooks points out in his Tuesday's (3-25-08) column in The New York Times “Obama lawyers successfully prevented re-votes in Florida and Michigan.” This disfranchising millions of Democratic voters in those states, reminds me of The Supreme Court Handing over Florida vote to George Bush. Is this the new era of politics that Sen. Obama is talking about, or is it politics as usual, circa Florida 2000? More and more Obama campaign reminds me of those infamous Republican dirty tricks that brought us eight years of George Bush, Iraq war and other disasters, and all of that of course with the help of Washington media establishment. The more Sen. Obama strains to speak of his new era of politics in America, less and less of it seemed real. Sen. Obama should practice what he preaches! Obviously, Sen. Obama is a liar and a hypocrite, and that’s a no fiction.
