Precinct 255 in State Senate District 13 in Southwest Houston
March 04, 2008 9:09 PM
No problems to report here, just record turnout for the caucus. And an overwhelmed election staff.
Meaning they're still signing people in.
Meaning they haven't started caucusing yet.
Meaning....expect a long night.
More than 200 Democrats came tonight to caucus. Four years ago, that number was 12. Twelve!
They are black, brown, and white. They have yarmulkes and cornrows, beehives and pompadours. They brought laptops and portable oxygen tanks, wheelchairs and magazines.
They are patiently sitting in the lunchroom of Red Elementary School, waiting to caucus, after having already voted in the primary earlier today.

UPDATE: Election judges here told me that Clinton won the primary in this precinct -- and Obama won the caucus.

Bill Clinton on the Rush Limbaugh Show?
Limbaugh telling Republicans to vote for Hillary to stop Obama.
8% did in Texas.
Is a dirty win, a win?

I'd like to see fuller reporting of actual caucuses - as someone from a primary state (sign in, record your selection privately, sign out and leave)I can't imagine the noise, delays, the standing around, the public nature of the caucuses - and the incredibly small number of people who turn out relative to the voters who we count on to turn out in the general election.
I think about moms with kids (with a bedtime), working people who may have spent 8 -10 hours on their feet already, senior voters who may not be driving at night and find it difficult to stand around in a noisy hall. And just as important, many voters value the privacy of the voting booth. The set up of a caucus has the effect of disenfranchising the voters listed above. This isn't fair. How many delegates have been awarded via the caucus system? If I lived in one of those states, I'd be furious that results depended on such a small group of "homogenized" voters that don't reflect the make up of the voter in the general election.
Please give wider coverage of caucus voting and implications.

Vermont is the smartest state, they didn't believe all the 'crap'that HRC spread around for the last week along with the media. America is a country of bullies: HRC is one of them. Dignity, honesty, intelligence don't win but vicious attacks do.

Had to think of Ms.Harris'smiling account this evening on Charlie Rose of the not so veiled threats heard on "urban" radio. If this what is what we can expect from the sen obama wing of the party ,its best we do part ways...

Any comments on the remarkable Clinton campaign manual for Texas caucuses? The Dallas Morning News reported that Clinton supporters were trained on how to handle a caucus:
"DO NOT allow the supporter of another candidate to serve in leadership roles."
"If our supporters are outnumbered, ask the Temporary Chair if one of our supporters can serve as the Secretary, in the interest of fairness.
"The control of the sign-in sheets and the announcement of the delegates allotted to each candidate are the critical functions of the Chair and Secretary. This is why it is so important that Hillary supporters hold these positions."
I really miss democracy.

She slipped another point.
Of the 2300 precincts in Hamilton & Cuyahoga counties, one has reported. All Champaign County two dozen precincts have reports.
There are a lot of OH votes yet to be counted.

Hillary will win Ohio but ABC won't tell you that. Now Texas is going her way too
Posted by: hgeevill | Mar 4, 2008 10:20:52 PM
guys the exit polls are already posted. Hillary wins Ohio 52-48%. She won't get a route. She also won't lose.
TX is Hillary 50 -48 Barack. Exit polling is the most accurate style of polling, but I'll say this is in the margin of error for sure....could go either way, but it looks like Republicans, could have put Barak over the top (they are 9% of the vote), but, they split almost evenly...thank Rush Limbaugh for that self serving move (serving Rush Limbaugh only).
well....in any event, its basically a scenario some predicted...Hillary gets her squeaker wins, but doesn't move delegates much either way...she continues on, Barack is still an almost sure thing to get the most pledged delegates.
How daring will the superdelegates be...only question left.

Hillary's OH lead is slipping. She was up early with more than 60% of the vote tallied. She now has a 57% portion.
OH might be diverse enough that the suburbs and small districts report 1st and the large cities report last.
35% of the precincts reporting might not be 35% of the vote.
It's still too early

WCM, keep up that Clinton optimism! She just might find a way to spin this thing her way yet! Those goalposts just keep moving further and further...

Wheelchairs and oxygen tanks!?! Uh oh, sounds like Clinton Country.

Looks like Hillary is getting a rout in Ohio and Texas is going in Obama's direction currently, but we have to wait until those rural voting districts come in and Hillary should get a big turnaround. Same thing with the caucuses.
