Richardson: Some Clinton Advisers Imply 'My Only Value' Is as a Hispanic

March 21, 2008 5:25 PM

In an interview about his endorsement today of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson seemed to suggest that he didn't like what he was hearing -- some of it race-related -- from the Clinton campaign.

"I resent the fact that the Clinton people are now saying that my endorsement is too late because I only can help with Texans -- with Texas and Hispanics, implying that that's my only value," he told CNN's John King, as noticed by ABC News' most excellent Jennifer Parker. "You know, that's typical of some of his advisers that kind of turned me off. And I see a positive thrust by Senator Obama and his people and want to bring the country together."

Richardson added that he has "enormous respect for the Clintons. If she's the nominee, I'll fight very hard for her."

I truly respected Bill Richarsdon before this. But, who would ever need a firend like Bill Richardson? He would likely stab his firends in the back, like he did to Bill Clinton.Bill Richardson is in his current state because of Bill Clinton.Bill Clinton gave him all his opportunites. He is where he is because of the Clintons.Who welcomed awesome minority leaders like Bill Richardson and several others and gave them opportunites in cabinet to reflect the true greatness of our nation and making us all truly proud? It was Bill Clinton. Well, Governor Richardson, you would join barack Obama to the waste. You are no fiend nor are you a shining light that I thought you were.Good Day, I though better of you.

Richardson was a nobody before Clinton gave him a job. After this endorsement he will be right back there. With friends like him.........

It seems that the Democratic Party has learned nothing from the Kerry-experience! Their candidate should first and formost be a proven patriot, to make a chance. I pity the ignorance and stupidity of Richardson. Hillary IS a patriot, Obama is not. A guy who refuses to wear a pin is NO patriot. What's next? Refuse to take the oath? Yeah, "it is what you believe inside". I do not buy that crap! Symbols matter, you know.

Let's see, after talking with hispanics in my family this morning (who think Richardson is a phony), some interesting information was discussed on his heritage. His grandfather was a boston-bord naturalist who went to Central America to do research for the Smithsonian. His father was born on a boat to Nicaragua. His father admitted to not liking his country and wanted more for his son. So after he moved to the most corrupt country in the world to be a banker in Mexico City he married his secretary. While pregnant with Bill, she crossed the border into Pasadena and gave birth to Bill. She then returned to Mexico City. (He is American by birth of course.) He was raised in Mexico City until age 13 when he was shipped off by his wealthy father to a Mass. boarding school. He eventually entered politics and became Governor of NM. Meanwhile, he has no significant accomplishments on record for the hispanic communities over all (except maybe NW NM) and only garnered 3-4% of the vote in a run for Pres. If he didnt have hispanic support then, what makes you think he will get it now? If there was a sudden shift it would obviously be based on race. How does that make Obama a uniter? It doesnt... it would be stealing the nomination by manipulating voters into identity politics and that would not make him electable based on the concentrations of black and hispanic populations in solid red states. Granted some of the dem states will likely vote for Clinton or Obama, but it is never enough to win an election. The reps know this well... and Obama plays right into their hands. Clinton works for all people with a plan to unite behind goals that benefit us all. She is not just a showhorse... she is a workhorse.

Let me clarify for every one's benefit. Obama will not be president even if he wins the democratic nomination.

Posted by: Roger Miller | Mar 22, 2008 3:01:08 AM

If Obama is president. First thing he will do is meet with every dictator without pre condition, opening up relations with Osama bin Laden to boot.

Next he will expunge the FBI , and replace them with the new Black Panthers.

Then he will exersise a new tax on white people to pay back black folks for slavery.

Then he will apologize to the people in the twin towers, and ADMIT for the record 9/11 was our own fault and we did it on purpose.

Then he will ask Lewis Farakkan for their opinion on what to do with Jews in general, perhaps coming to a 'final solution'.

Then he can get Al Sharpton and Pastor Wright to take over Fox news and start preaching on there.

Then he can start injecting white people with AIDS so 'see how they feel when the shoe is on the other foot'

If we complain about any of this, then Clyburn can come out and tell us all to 'chill'.

Barack Overinflated will not get my vote, he is inexperienced and he went to that church that spewed racist hate for 20 years. He is a con artist, he's all talk and just an empty suit. I am African American and Democrat and I see nothing inspiring enough to make me vote for Barack Overinflated, who has done absolutely nothing to deserve the Presidency. Barack will not be getting a vote here. Suddenly the Clinton's who have supported the Black Community for years are called racists when this man is trying to get votes. No one seriously believes Bill Clinton or Hillary is racist. Now Richardson has endorsed him, a man that the Clintons help for years. Richardson looks like nothing but an opportunist. Barack Overinflated in a divisive candidate, I don't buy his rhetoric or his words of hope. I'll sit home on Election day.

pp -- exactly! Just like disenfranchising the votes of MI and FL...it wouldn't have benefited him. Obama says he wants this race to be about transparency. He has definitely accomplished that.

Posted by: LOM | Mar 22, 2008 2:31:25 AM

They are allowed to play the race card apparently because they are not typical white people.

Posted by: LOM | Mar 22, 2008 2:25:40 AM

pp -- that's the way that Obama wanted it so that he could clinch the nomination. the supers were designed to vote their independent judgment (something that the Obama camp tried to spin as wrong), but Richardson just gave the green light for the others to do as they please.

Hopefully using their independent judgment will show that Obama has ZERO chance of winning the general election and cast their votes to Clinton.

Posted by: LOM | Mar 22, 2008 2:23:48 AM

Wow, he's been on the Obama campaign for less than a day and ALREADY he knows how to play the race card!

Posted by: Heather | Mar 22, 2008 2:23:11 AM

An interesting slip from Richardson, who knows the Clintons quite well: he says, "You know, that's typical of some of his advisers that kind of turned me off." His advisers — not her advisers. Richardson obviously believes that Bill is the power behind Hillary's campaign.

Thought most mainstream democrats wanted the super delegates to vote the way their constituants did...Richardson endorsed BHO, New Mexico to Clinton; Kennedy endorsed BHO, Mass. to Clinton; Kerry endorsed BHO, Mass. to Clinton; etc. So what is this about the super delegates not being the ones to over-turn what the electorate has said?

I spent 10 years in south side of chicago, i made friends and saw gang fights and the inner city depressions and projects and gentrification and black churches and congregations,
i was robbed three times, while roaming places like 63 rd and ashland, 95th street and 79th street - got a clear picture of south side of chicago;
my point is this : i am not an US citizen and i understand the Wright comment, but how segregated is the population that they react to this so stupidly?
how divided is the US?
I thought I had some idea, being there, but i really feel sorry for them.
i won't say they are racial and stereotype them, but they are dumb and ignorant:

If the guy was a marine and helped to operate on Lyndon Johnson, I would be sad seeing him damning his nation, it won't never come to me as being unpatriotic.

so he can't damn his own government, the one he fought for ?

again what do i know i am an alien.
but the fools shout why did he stay in the church for 20 years, damn go to south side and be there and no one will eat you up, I was there and I am white, and you will know what he heard for 20 years, not God Damn America !

US citizens : don't stay so alienated from each other.

Richardson completely played the safe card. An endorsement now really does not mean a lot, even if he had come out for Clinton. It actually makes him look like a traitor to many people. But his choice. Hardly the trait of a leader though.

Let's see, that is two drop-outs from this race who have backed Obama. Maybe Dodd and Richardson are really just trying to start a "losers" club and just sent off their invite to him.

Posted by: LOM | Mar 22, 2008 2:03:08 AM

if Obama becomes president, the FBI will be replaced by the Black panters, and if we complain, Clyburn will tell us all to 'chill'.

Posted by: tomdavie | Mar 22, 2008 2:02:13 AM

Here, this should make Richardson feel better: Do not worry, we know that you being Latino does not make people support you. People vote for whom they believe will be best as President. You could make what you want of the comments that your support is too late. I believe they are simply stating a straight forward fact; it's too late, makes no difference now. People are not voting based on who is supporting, defending or promoting Obama. Their attention is squarely on him now and his numbers are going down. I also want to clarify that the comment is most likely related to the fact that being NM's Governor, Richardson would have been an influence on neighboring TX. Wow, Richardson is now pulling an Obama race play.

when Sen Obama became the President, everything that will be uttered against him will be subject to having presidential implications......very simple, otherwise you make it complex. why make it complex when you can make it simple he he he he he!

Yeah, someone is using the names of many pro-Hillary posters. It's really annoying and sad. What a coward.

Someone is using my screen name in another thread to post anti-Hillary comments....
