Setting the Bar

March 04, 2008 11:00 AM

Good morning.

Some past Clinton campaign quotes about today.

"If she wins Texas and Ohio I think she will be the nominee. If you don't deliver for her, I don't think she can be. It's all on you."
-- former President Bill Clinton

“I think we will be ahead in the delegate race after Texas and Ohio.”

-- Clinton campaign communications director Howard Wolfson, conference call, February 11

“After March 4th, over 3000 delegates will be committed, and we project that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama will be virtually tied with 611 delegates still to be chosen in Pennsylvania and other remaining states. Again and again, this race has shown that it is voters and delegates who matter, not the pundits or perceived ‘momentum.’”

- Mark Penn, February 13

“We think that at the end of the day on March 4 we will be within 25 delegates.”

- Clinton aide Guy Cecil, the Politico, February 13

Huh.

geevil

whatdaya propose for MI and FL? I heard Richason saying that they should consider holding caucuses.

Yeah, that's the point. NEITHER of them can win without superdelegates. If you think Obma ais going to win by race hustling super delegates WITHOUT FL and MI voters being heard you must naive as an Obama supporter.

Obama? Oh Bummer!

Jake, I'm glad you posted these quotes.

They help us recognize political spin when the Clinton campaign suddenly starts spreading the words that it is Obama who has a problem if Hillary wins Texas and Ohio by large margins.

Well, he isn't. On the contrary; 50 superdelegates we learned today are lined up to endorse Obama today or tomorrow, and above all let's not forget that Clinton lost leads in the double digits (about 25%) in both Texas and Ohio.

geevil says - "Obama cannot win either unless he gets 85% of the primary voters."

Oh, if it were only true! But I fear if what the New Mexico governer says is true, then the Uncommitted Super Delegates will unabashedly move to Obama.

And if the Super Delegates move, all Obama needs to do is capture the nomination is to win the remaining accursed caucuses and not get blown out in the remaining primaries. Lamentations Geevils, but Hillary has to crush Obama today.

But if she doesn't do this, do not despair. There is one other path that will keep Obama from reaching the magic number. We must keep the HOPE alive that somehow, some way the Pennsylvania firewall holds and Hillary starts winning by 90-10% margins.

And once the Big Mo shifts, Victory will be ours.

Things really do not look good for Sen. Clinton's chances. The math is the math. The Democrats now need to rally around their best chance for the White House, the optimistic Sen. Barack Obama. When Bill Clinton heralded from a little town called HOPE, he was a media darling. Now that HOPE has become a mindset and a movement, they should equally embrace this candidate.

Obama cannot win either unless he gets 85% of the primary voters.

Move along, nothing to see hear. Tonight Hillary will have dealt a crushing blow to Obama when she wins Ohio and Rhode Island. It will be time for him and his majority of pledged delegates to concede the nomination.

Aw come on. You are being to hard on Ol Hill.

I mean if she is, say, within 165 delegates on March 5th that's a Victory.

If she is within 180 delegates after March 8th (wyoming) that is a Victory.

And if she is within 200 delegates after March 11th (mississippi), this is a Victory, Too!

Then it will be on to Pennsylvania where Hillary is poised to land a series of knockout blows starting with a 90-10% pounding of Obama in PA. And VICTORY will be within reach as a Victorious Hillary administers landslide-style beatdowns in Indiana and North Carolina and Kentucky and Oregon and WV and PR. And don't forget about Guam, a Hillary tidal wave can capture all four delegates there (caucus states don't really count as we all know, so they are to be ignored).

And Victory is just around the corner, ye of little faith.
