Team Clinton Hits Obama on Wright
March 20, 2008 9:11 AM
Writing on the Huffington Post website, high-profile Hillary Clinton surrogate Lanny Davis calls Barack Obama's speech on race "brilliant" and then pushes the Rev, Wright story.
"I personally regarded many of Rev. Wright's sermons as filled with hate words and bigoted generalizations base on race (in this case, all Whites)," Davis writes. "One could even call them racist. His remarks post-9/11 were nothing short of reckless and unforgiveable." (sic)
Then the push:
"But many people, including Obama supporters, may still have two questions that Senator Obama's speech did not sufficiently answer, at least in my opinion. And, for any Democrat whose priority is to win back the White House in 2008, they need to be answered now -- because, if Senator Obama ends up the party's nominee (I am a supporter of Senator Clinton's) -- for sure Senator McCain will insist they be answered in the fall."
Davis says the questions are the following:
"1. If a white minister preached sermons to his congregation and had used the 'N' word and used rhetoric and words similar to members of the KKK, would you support a Democratic presidential candidate who decided to continue to be a member of that congregation?
"2. Would you support that candidate if, after knowing of or hearing those sermons, he or she still appointed that minister to serve on his or her 'Religious Advisory Committee' of his or her presidential campaign?"
Davis then pushes reporters to press Obama on these questions.
Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson told The Atlantic's Marc Ambinder that Davis's op-ed was not officially sanctioned by the campaign.
I agree that the race speech didn't settle some of these questions, but I don't know that Rev. Wright using the N word is equivalent to a member of the Ku Klux Klan using it.
What do you think?

I dont care what his racial feelings are he is too liberal. you can not raise taxes in a slowing economy. he will distroy the economy, health care, and the military. he is radical.we dont want a socialist government it does not work.

SJ: The I told you so's would be vindicated if Obama really did hate whites but any rational and truthful person should know that he absolutely does not hate whites.
Those that secretly fear and distrust him want him to hate whites to justify their feelings.
I mean, as we speak he is probably sitting at a table in a ready room surrounded white people (not blacks) who are all his long time closest confidants and advisers. They are most likely going over various strategies about how to diffuse this stupid Rev. Wright mess.

Barack Obama did not speak words of hate. The distortions and generalities (e.g. ...his black theologians; ...he knew he and his church were racist...) on this thread are amazing. So many are patting themselves on the back for not having any 'hate' in their thoughts, hearts and/or actions EVER. And displaying an attitude of "this could never happen in my family, home, church or community...you know, it's just THEM".
WOW! Since when did we become a society of perfect people?
Not one person has said we will PRAY for Rev. Wright and pray for this country to heal. What happened to forgiveness?
Colossians 3:12-14
12 So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. 14 Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.

Thank you ABC for the glimmer of hope that possibly not ALL the main stream media is in the grips of liberalism. Its quickly becoming common knowledge that this IS the case.
One of many mistakes that Obama (and his black theologians) has made is to ASSUME that whites or other races/religions hear or are taught similar hate at home or in their churches. In fact, its quite the opposite.
What an enormous step backwards!

Why is it sad to see all the I told you so's? ...Because they turned out to be true???? It is not vindication one seeks by expressing relief! :)
Have a nice day!

I am amazed at the amount of time and energy spent on one single candidate running for the presidential nomination across all channels and shows, including yours.
What puzzles me even more is how much all of the media praise and tout the Race speech made by Obama. Let's just look at the facts:
- Yes, it was a great speech, and well delivered.
- Yes he is an articulate and intelligent man.
- No, we still don’t know any more about Obama’s own judgment for not removing himself or his impressionable young children from the exposure of such venom.
- From my simple understanding, a church or temple you choose to go to gives you and your family the moral grounding and spiritual guidance to enrich your soul (or Atman, to us Hindu’s)
- Why was it delivered? Because he had to say something at the time he did, and took it as a political opportunity to give us a lecture on race relations.
So then, how is Obama so much above the rest of the political fray? He proved that he was in fact a very skillful politician in very much the same mold.
Let me ask a very simple question that I have not heard anyone ask thus far - probably because it is politically incorrect.
What if it was an Imam in an Islamic religious institution in America who made the type of radical and incendiary comments about America and White Americans that the Rev Wright did, and over a period of years? What would be the reaction at large – crossing all racial lines? What would be our judgment of those Muslims who send their children to that institution for religious studies?
Let me tell you, the Imam would have been arrested, and in all likelihood, the institution would have been shut down. Does an Imams’ vitriol negate the good these Islamic religious institutions do for their communities? Do they not raise money to feed the poor, or assist people in need in their communities? Yes they absolutely do. What they would not be doing is to preach tolerance, understanding and making positive efforts to bridge the divide - in this hypothetical case. Does this seem so hypothetical after all?
Would Mr. Obama then use the same arguments to say that America is wrong then in condemning and disassociating ourselves from radicalism in these other ethnic groups – in this or other countries? Should we, by the same reasoning provided by Obama, reach out to these Islamic radicals who preach hatred of the society from which they are benefiting and not be judging them? Will he reason with us to say that America’s foreign policies and support of Israel created this hatred and anger? I assume he would. Then he would have to further state that America has been wrong.
Btw, I am a Hindu, not a Muslim. But I find myself asking this question after hearing the much touted "Race" speech. I have the utmost regard and admiration of the real civil rights icons of our times - Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi to name a few. These were men larger then life, who led by example. Men who really do bring tears to our eyes for what they believed in, fought for, and achieved.
Obama is a junior senator from Illinois, who is little known and as we learn more about his background and associations – his judgments, we are realizing how little we really do know about this man. He may well be a very good candidate. But not now – he needs more experience and exposure on the national stage. I think I have good judgment when it comes to managing our personal finances, and running my small business with offices in NJ and Chennai, India. But that doesn’t make me ready to be the CEO of Morgan Stanley or JP Morgan, does it? Perhaps it does.
I consider myself a democrat. But I am seeing the stupidity of the party throwing away this election – a victory they will be giving away!!

I Keep seeing people say that a white canidate would not get away with being linked to a pastor making disparaging comments like Pastor Wrights. Well they already have gotten away with it, there are several "crack pot"theologians" on the Republican side of this, but the Press seldom harps on the Dirt from the GOP, Because the GOP supporters are smart enough to keep their Eye on the ball. They won't report it because they know that Republicans just don't care and it won't change a thing. Much easier to stir up mess with the DNC because we claim to be so rightous that we turn on each other at a moments notice. It's called divide and Conquer and it's been used to sit on the black community for hundreds of years. To my white brothers and Sisters in the struggle welcome to our world. Fighting each other over symantics while McCains poll numbers steadily grow and we tumble head first into a 3rd Bush administration.

Hillary and Bill Cinton have sat in MANY MANY African American churches asking congregations for their votes. Those votes significantly contributed to Bill Clinton becoming president. Now, they both are silent and letting their supporters spin this issue to get her votes. SHAME ON THE
CLINTONS!!!!!!!!! Thank you Mike Huckabee of your response and integrity regarding this matter.
And for many who say this church is racist, don't be so quick to judge. Could the reverend have communicated his points about perceived injustices in a more positive and less divisive way, YES. However, how is it that 5% of a 30 year career played in the national media is now all this man and church are being judged on? PLEASE! There are so many people living in glass houses these days, as if they have never said something that is later regreted or communicated a legitimate feeling in an inappropriate way. Examine yourself and what you have thought and spoken. "He who is without sin cast the first stone". As a society, we are so quick to judge...we need to be delivered from being judgemental.
Barack Obama life reflects someone who focused on the positives, not the negative words being spoken. He hoped for a different future than the one where the anger and bitterness is still felt by many, even his own pastor. We all need help in one way or another and the church should embrace all types of people...it is like a hospital for broken lives.
Life is a journey and God has a purpose for each of us. We have a responsibility to read the Bible for ourselves and develop a personal relationship with Him, not just rely on our Pastor (our accountability is to God, not another person). And, could it not be that Barack Obama was positioned in Rev. Wright's life as a testimony and as an example of how God can change circumstances from one generation to another to bring healing to past hurts and injustices. Even after many years of knowing Rev. Wright, Barack Obama's life's work, actions and desire is to pursue UNITY and reconciliation. WOW, now isn't that the story of the Bible...a Christ who looks beyond our faults and sees our need; who died on the cross for the sins of the world.

First of all, I would like to thank ABC for this type of investigative journalism of the candidates. The MSM has been so blatantly biased for obama it is Very disturbing on so many levels. Yet again, from his speech, the media gets diverted from the issue at hand. Lets get back to the real issue here 1) He is a liar – he is now saying that he did attend some sermons when his pastor made these comments. 2) after a 20+ year relationship with his pastor, how could he not know is tenor(this is beyond any rational belief otherwise); which brings up his Judgment ability. The fact he is just Now renouncing his words shows an obvious HUGE lack of judgment on his part. Why is not the media discussing these very basic points??? His speech is an Obvious diversion/spin away from these points into the bigger racial issue. He has lost credibility and integrity with me. Please do not use his name in the same breath as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This is an insult to the late, great Dr. King.

Its not that the truth about Obama is coming out. Its the truth about America that is coming out.
Its just really sad to see all of the "I told you so's" and the "I knew you couldn't trust him" hate mongers coming out of their little holes.
I know that all of you out there that insist on calling him by his middle name feel somehow vindicated now.
But tell me exactly what is it that you feel vindicated about?(is it that your pent up fears and prejudice were justifed?)

Soooo glad to see that the truth about Obama is finally becoming main stream!...It is very scary to think that it came this close to election day. (If you think that if so many people had continued blindly following him like cattle, he could have had a chance to become president of this wonderful nation).
Such and idea scares me and millions to the core!
Congratulations America for waking up from the Obama-spell!
NOBAMA '08 ....OR EVER!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone that thinks that Obama wants race to be a central issue of this campaign is sadly misguided.
He is the last one on Earth to want that because he knows that it will make him just another marginal black candidate like Jesse or Al.
He so badly wants to rise above it all but his opponents will not let him if they can help it.

I have a problem with the Obama-Rev Wright stuff. I agree with one of the others who posted comments, A white man or woman presidential candidate could not get away with being connected with a racist minister. They could not get away with saying that crap. Even though they don't agree with the commments, could not continue as a member of the church, and call the racist minister "uncle". Also, I have a bigger problem with the anti-american statements than with the racists statements. I will not support him now knowing that he can affiliates himself with someone like Wright. I really doubt that very many others will either. I especially resent him now, my daughter was in the army, I have family and friends in themilitary "protecting" someone like obama and wright. We certainly do not need a president who will accept that language from Wright or anyone else. There seems to be a double standard when it comes to racist statements....its ok for blacks to be racist, but a white person (Geraldene Ferarro) gets attacked by obama's people. Who does he think he is? I feel pretty sure, if anyone else, white, hispanic, etc....made the anti-american statements, they would not be able to continue as a candidate. I do not vote for someone just because they are democrat or republican, I vote for who is best for the job...who will not accept anti-american statements from anyone.

Could someone find how Lee Feinstein knew that Obama visited only one NATO country in his entire life?
Posted by: Mr. Nice | Mar 21, 2008 12:02:45 AM
Jake,
Obama needs to drop out of the race. I am very tired of all the race talk that has come from his campaign.
this is dividing our country. Please allow Mr. Obama to gracefully exit otherwise we will be having the second OJ simpson/Rodney King trials all over again.
It's time for America to concentrate on issues. With Obama that would not happen.

who is the man, who has fed barack's spirit? who is and has been his spiritual mentor? for 20 plus years? what does a man learn from another man, entrusted with the role of preaching the word of God to his children? what is the role of father to his children in matter of church and faith?
why does one man bind himself to the mentorship of another man? and then, claim what?
not to belabor this one item as the be of all and what will end all for BO's candidacy, but...
'glad to be an american' or 'born in the usa' needs to review the tapes again. there is one where preacher man does talk government - blaming government for 911. of course, bush had only been in office for 9 months prior to 911. so, who was he really blaming? and, preacher man also has archived article re: natalie holloway and the inordinate amount of press she recieved, when she went missing. the preacher was ticked off that black teens did not receive same press. and, he does speak heavily about oppression of race. do you suppose he is referring to the black legislators or asians? i don't think so. barack justifies the preacher man anger (hate) words like "kkk" of usa on the preacher man anger. who composed or composes kkk? apparently, you need to do your homework. it would be nice if all BO's words could be supported by a life that reflected his rhetoric. just ain't so -
he's all show, sport. and, it's his 'show' that he has been riding on - since, he has no credentials to support his ambition. let me ask< are we allowed to be discerning or should we just take his "words" for his claims to the presidency? are we allowed to scrutinize the candidate? especially, since he refuses to produce any substantive, credible documentation to support his resume - even, an employer does a background check, anymore. what is the problem? denial? yours and his - two differenet definitions.
everyone knows bush's screw ups. we just don't want to have another president elected who will unload a crap and a half of lies from his baggage once he moves into the white house. try to see the opportunity of freedom of speech and the public right to know as civil liberties.
by the way, the reason we are in the iraq war is because media and bush administration did not allow for protest or accurate reporting of facts. sooooooo excuse me for not wanting to go through that kind of hell again. be happy for the truth, even if the news of it makes you feel uncomfortable. people need to be informed before making a choice. and, they are not choosing a bed time story just now.
it's not that hillary is perfect. we just know who she is and that she does not change like the color of ambition BO chooses to wear on any given day.

I have to agree with Gloria's one point in that RACISM is alive and well in America, and that is extremely true in Reverend Wrights Church, which is obviously bitterly outspoken against White America, and America in general. Senator Obama came across as a great speaker, that is very eloquent. But, I am having serious doubts and concerns when Reverend Wright was one of his religious advisors speaks so harsh of a White America. He is helping to define and draw the line with his anti-white rhetoric, insteading of trying to see the one color vision of Dr. Martin Luther King. Reverend Wright's sermons are shameful and should be condemned. How Senator Obama had him in such high esteem, gives me grave concerns on his true viewpoints and biases. I would rather put my trust in Hilary, at least I know where she stands, and she always has had pride in being an American, not so with Michele Obama, no matter how much they try to spin it. I would like to thank Reverend Wright for showing us the other darker face of Senator Obama, the one that does not often meet the public eye. Jim...
