Team Clinton Hits Obama on Wright
March 20, 2008 9:11 AM
Writing on the Huffington Post website, high-profile Hillary Clinton surrogate Lanny Davis calls Barack Obama's speech on race "brilliant" and then pushes the Rev, Wright story.
"I personally regarded many of Rev. Wright's sermons as filled with hate words and bigoted generalizations base on race (in this case, all Whites)," Davis writes. "One could even call them racist. His remarks post-9/11 were nothing short of reckless and unforgiveable." (sic)
Then the push:
"But many people, including Obama supporters, may still have two questions that Senator Obama's speech did not sufficiently answer, at least in my opinion. And, for any Democrat whose priority is to win back the White House in 2008, they need to be answered now -- because, if Senator Obama ends up the party's nominee (I am a supporter of Senator Clinton's) -- for sure Senator McCain will insist they be answered in the fall."
Davis says the questions are the following:
"1. If a white minister preached sermons to his congregation and had used the 'N' word and used rhetoric and words similar to members of the KKK, would you support a Democratic presidential candidate who decided to continue to be a member of that congregation?
"2. Would you support that candidate if, after knowing of or hearing those sermons, he or she still appointed that minister to serve on his or her 'Religious Advisory Committee' of his or her presidential campaign?"
Davis then pushes reporters to press Obama on these questions.
Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson told The Atlantic's Marc Ambinder that Davis's op-ed was not officially sanctioned by the campaign.
I agree that the race speech didn't settle some of these questions, but I don't know that Rev. Wright using the N word is equivalent to a member of the Ku Klux Klan using it.
What do you think?

I dont care what his racial feelings are he is too liberal. you can not raise taxes in a slowing economy. he will distroy the economy, health care, and the military. he is radical.we dont want a socialist government it does not work.

SJ: The I told you so's would be vindicated if Obama really did hate whites but any rational and truthful person should know that he absolutely does not hate whites.
Those that secretly fear and distrust him want him to hate whites to justify their feelings.
I mean, as we speak he is probably sitting at a table in a ready room surrounded white people (not blacks) who are all his long time closest confidants and advisers. They are most likely going over various strategies about how to diffuse this stupid Rev. Wright mess.

Barack Obama did not speak words of hate. The distortions and generalities (e.g. ...his black theologians; ...he knew he and his church were racist...) on this thread are amazing. So many are patting themselves on the back for not having any 'hate' in their thoughts, hearts and/or actions EVER. And displaying an attitude of "this could never happen in my family, home, church or community...you know, it's just THEM".
WOW! Since when did we become a society of perfect people?
Not one person has said we will PRAY for Rev. Wright and pray for this country to heal. What happened to forgiveness?
Colossians 3:12-14
12 So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. 14 Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.

Thank you ABC for the glimmer of hope that possibly not ALL the main stream media is in the grips of liberalism. Its quickly becoming common knowledge that this IS the case.
One of many mistakes that Obama (and his black theologians) has made is to ASSUME that whites or other races/religions hear or are taught similar hate at home or in their churches. In fact, its quite the opposite.
What an enormous step backwards!

I am amazed at the amount of time and energy spent on one single candidate running for the presidential nomination across all channels and shows, including yours.
What puzzles me even more is how much all of the media praise and tout the Race speech made by Obama. Let's just look at the facts:
- Yes, it was a great speech, and well delivered.
- Yes he is an articulate and intelligent man.
- No, we still don’t know any more about Obama’s own judgment for not removing himself or his impressionable young children from the exposure of such venom.
- From my simple understanding, a church or temple you choose to go to gives you and your family the moral grounding and spiritual guidance to enrich your soul (or Atman, to us Hindu’s)
- Why was it delivered? Because he had to say something at the time he did, and took it as a political opportunity to give us a lecture on race relations.
So then, how is Obama so much above the rest of the political fray? He proved that he was in fact a very skillful politician in very much the same mold.
Let me ask a very simple question that I have not heard anyone ask thus far - probably because it is politically incorrect.
What if it was an Imam in an Islamic religious institution in America who made the type of radical and incendiary comments about America and White Americans that the Rev Wright did, and over a period of years? What would be the reaction at large – crossing all racial lines? What would be our judgment of those Muslims who send their children to that institution for religious studies?
Let me tell you, the Imam would have been arrested, and in all likelihood, the institution would have been shut down. Does an Imams’ vitriol negate the good these Islamic religious institutions do for their communities? Do they not raise money to feed the poor, or assist people in need in their communities? Yes they absolutely do. What they would not be doing is to preach tolerance, understanding and making positive efforts to bridge the divide - in this hypothetical case. Does this seem so hypothetical after all?
Would Mr. Obama then use the same arguments to say that America is wrong then in condemning and disassociating ourselves from radicalism in these other ethnic groups – in this or other countries? Should we, by the same reasoning provided by Obama, reach out to these Islamic radicals who preach hatred of the society from which they are benefiting and not be judging them? Will he reason with us to say that America’s foreign policies and support of Israel created this hatred and anger? I assume he would. Then he would have to further state that America has been wrong.
Btw, I am a Hindu, not a Muslim. But I find myself asking this question after hearing the much touted "Race" speech. I have the utmost regard and admiration of the real civil rights icons of our times - Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi to name a few. These were men larger then life, who led by example. Men who really do bring tears to our eyes for what they believed in, fought for, and achieved.
Obama is a junior senator from Illinois, who is little known and as we learn more about his background and associations – his judgments, we are realizing how little we really do know about this man. He may well be a very good candidate. But not now – he needs more experience and exposure on the national stage. I think I have good judgment when it comes to managing our personal finances, and running my small business with offices in NJ and Chennai, India. But that doesn’t make me ready to be the CEO of Morgan Stanley or JP Morgan, does it? Perhaps it does.
I consider myself a democrat. But I am seeing the stupidity of the party throwing away this election – a victory they will be giving away!!

I Keep seeing people say that a white canidate would not get away with being linked to a pastor making disparaging comments like Pastor Wrights. Well they already have gotten away with it, there are several "crack pot"theologians" on the Republican side of this, but the Press seldom harps on the Dirt from the GOP, Because the GOP supporters are smart enough to keep their Eye on the ball. They won't report it because they know that Republicans just don't care and it won't change a thing. Much easier to stir up mess with the DNC because we claim to be so rightous that we turn on each other at a moments notice. It's called divide and Conquer and it's been used to sit on the black community for hundreds of years. To my white brothers and Sisters in the struggle welcome to our world. Fighting each other over symantics while McCains poll numbers steadily grow and we tumble head first into a 3rd Bush administration.

Hillary and Bill Cinton have sat in MANY MANY African American churches asking congregations for their votes. Those votes significantly contributed to Bill Clinton becoming president. Now, they both are silent and letting their supporters spin this issue to get her votes. SHAME ON THE
CLINTONS!!!!!!!!! Thank you Mike Huckabee of your response and integrity regarding this matter.
And for many who say this church is racist, don't be so quick to judge. Could the reverend have communicated his points about perceived injustices in a more positive and less divisive way, YES. However, how is it that 5% of a 30 year career played in the national media is now all this man and church are being judged on? PLEASE! There are so many people living in glass houses these days, as if they have never said something that is later regreted or communicated a legitimate feeling in an inappropriate way. Examine yourself and what you have thought and spoken. "He who is without sin cast the first stone". As a society, we are so quick to judge...we need to be delivered from being judgemental.
Barack Obama life reflects someone who focused on the positives, not the negative words being spoken. He hoped for a different future than the one where the anger and bitterness is still felt by many, even his own pastor. We all need help in one way or another and the church should embrace all types of people...it is like a hospital for broken lives.
Life is a journey and God has a purpose for each of us. We have a responsibility to read the Bible for ourselves and develop a personal relationship with Him, not just rely on our Pastor (our accountability is to God, not another person). And, could it not be that Barack Obama was positioned in Rev. Wright's life as a testimony and as an example of how God can change circumstances from one generation to another to bring healing to past hurts and injustices. Even after many years of knowing Rev. Wright, Barack Obama's life's work, actions and desire is to pursue UNITY and reconciliation. WOW, now isn't that the story of the Bible...a Christ who looks beyond our faults and sees our need; who died on the cross for the sins of the world.

First of all, I would like to thank ABC for this type of investigative journalism of the candidates. The MSM has been so blatantly biased for obama it is Very disturbing on so many levels. Yet again, from his speech, the media gets diverted from the issue at hand. Lets get back to the real issue here 1) He is a liar – he is now saying that he did attend some sermons when his pastor made these comments. 2) after a 20+ year relationship with his pastor, how could he not know is tenor(this is beyond any rational belief otherwise); which brings up his Judgment ability. The fact he is just Now renouncing his words shows an obvious HUGE lack of judgment on his part. Why is not the media discussing these very basic points??? His speech is an Obvious diversion/spin away from these points into the bigger racial issue. He has lost credibility and integrity with me. Please do not use his name in the same breath as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This is an insult to the late, great Dr. King.

Its not that the truth about Obama is coming out. Its the truth about America that is coming out.
Its just really sad to see all of the "I told you so's" and the "I knew you couldn't trust him" hate mongers coming out of their little holes.
I know that all of you out there that insist on calling him by his middle name feel somehow vindicated now.
But tell me exactly what is it that you feel vindicated about?(is it that your pent up fears and prejudice were justifed?)

Soooo glad to see that the truth about Obama is finally becoming main stream!...It is very scary to think that it came this close to election day. (If you think that if so many people had continued blindly following him like cattle, he could have had a chance to become president of this wonderful nation).
Such and idea scares me and millions to the core!
Congratulations America for waking up from the Obama-spell!

Anyone that thinks that Obama wants race to be a central issue of this campaign is sadly misguided.
He is the last one on Earth to want that because he knows that it will make him just another marginal black candidate like Jesse or Al.
He so badly wants to rise above it all but his opponents will not let him if they can help it.

I have a problem with the Obama-Rev Wright stuff. I agree with one of the others who posted comments, A white man or woman presidential candidate could not get away with being connected with a racist minister. They could not get away with saying that crap. Even though they don't agree with the commments, could not continue as a member of the church, and call the racist minister "uncle". Also, I have a bigger problem with the anti-american statements than with the racists statements. I will not support him now knowing that he can affiliates himself with someone like Wright. I really doubt that very many others will either. I especially resent him now, my daughter was in the army, I have family and friends in themilitary "protecting" someone like obama and wright. We certainly do not need a president who will accept that language from Wright or anyone else. There seems to be a double standard when it comes to racist statements....its ok for blacks to be racist, but a white person (Geraldene Ferarro) gets attacked by obama's people. Who does he think he is? I feel pretty sure, if anyone else, white, hispanic, etc....made the anti-american statements, they would not be able to continue as a candidate. I do not vote for someone just because they are democrat or republican, I vote for who is best for the job...who will not accept anti-american statements from anyone.

Jake,
Obama needs to drop out of the race. I am very tired of all the race talk that has come from his campaign.
this is dividing our country. Please allow Mr. Obama to gracefully exit otherwise we will be having the second OJ simpson/Rodney King trials all over again.
It's time for America to concentrate on issues. With Obama that would not happen.

who is the man, who has fed barack's spirit? who is and has been his spiritual mentor? for 20 plus years? what does a man learn from another man, entrusted with the role of preaching the word of God to his children? what is the role of father to his children in matter of church and faith?
why does one man bind himself to the mentorship of another man? and then, claim what?
not to belabor this one item as the be of all and what will end all for BO's candidacy, but...
'glad to be an american' or 'born in the usa' needs to review the tapes again. there is one where preacher man does talk government - blaming government for 911. of course, bush had only been in office for 9 months prior to 911. so, who was he really blaming? and, preacher man also has archived article re: natalie holloway and the inordinate amount of press she recieved, when she went missing. the preacher was ticked off that black teens did not receive same press. and, he does speak heavily about oppression of race. do you suppose he is referring to the black legislators or asians? i don't think so. barack justifies the preacher man anger (hate) words like "kkk" of usa on the preacher man anger. who composed or composes kkk? apparently, you need to do your homework. it would be nice if all BO's words could be supported by a life that reflected his rhetoric. just ain't so -
he's all show, sport. and, it's his 'show' that he has been riding on - since, he has no credentials to support his ambition. let me ask< are we allowed to be discerning or should we just take his "words" for his claims to the presidency? are we allowed to scrutinize the candidate? especially, since he refuses to produce any substantive, credible documentation to support his resume - even, an employer does a background check, anymore. what is the problem? denial? yours and his - two differenet definitions.
everyone knows bush's screw ups. we just don't want to have another president elected who will unload a crap and a half of lies from his baggage once he moves into the white house. try to see the opportunity of freedom of speech and the public right to know as civil liberties.
by the way, the reason we are in the iraq war is because media and bush administration did not allow for protest or accurate reporting of facts. sooooooo excuse me for not wanting to go through that kind of hell again. be happy for the truth, even if the news of it makes you feel uncomfortable. people need to be informed before making a choice. and, they are not choosing a bed time story just now.
it's not that hillary is perfect. we just know who she is and that she does not change like the color of ambition BO chooses to wear on any given day.

I have to agree with Gloria's one point in that RACISM is alive and well in America, and that is extremely true in Reverend Wrights Church, which is obviously bitterly outspoken against White America, and America in general. Senator Obama came across as a great speaker, that is very eloquent. But, I am having serious doubts and concerns when Reverend Wright was one of his religious advisors speaks so harsh of a White America. He is helping to define and draw the line with his anti-white rhetoric, insteading of trying to see the one color vision of Dr. Martin Luther King. Reverend Wright's sermons are shameful and should be condemned. How Senator Obama had him in such high esteem, gives me grave concerns on his true viewpoints and biases. I would rather put my trust in Hilary, at least I know where she stands, and she always has had pride in being an American, not so with Michele Obama, no matter how much they try to spin it. I would like to thank Reverend Wright for showing us the other darker face of Senator Obama, the one that does not often meet the public eye. Jim...

People, please get over it. If we are going to judge him by the words of a man he can no more control than you or I, then we all stand judged. The comments on this blog are a prime example that racism is alive and well in America. America finally has an opportunity to elect a man that could bring this country together and we like the typical "white americans" we are, will do everything in our power to make sure it does not happen. A year from now, if the Clinton administration with the help of people like Rush Limbaugh and Fox News steal this nomination and Mccain wins the election - when you look in your pockets and see that you are unable to pay your mortgage, put a decent meal on your table or have to choose between heating fuel or gas - thank yourself for being responsible. We are a racist society and our hatred of others is not only directed at blacks, its directed at any one that is not white. Shame on all of you that continues to keep such hatred alive and well. Unlike Michelle Obama, I for one and not proud of America - I for one think that we have a long way to go. The mere fact that we now do in the dark what was once done in the light does not make us any less racist. The best thing the media can do for us all is to replay Obama's speech from the beginning - maybe something will in it will open your eyes and make you admit the truth. But wait, we (white)americans cannot handle the truth.
Posted by: Gloria | Mar 20, 2008 9:23:16 PM
What people are forgetting is that Obama is a Bi-racial candiate and he is for ALL AMERICANS. You can not pinpoint his pastor comments as being guided to " whites" only. His pastor was basically saying that our " Goverment" sucks not "whites". If you actually listen and stop comprehending ignorance and pieces of the sermons then you will fully comprehend the message well. So do your home-work first and then judge Barack as our future president not like it came out of HIS mouth. Also, let Fox come out with some comments about America under the democrat presidency made by Pastor Wright and show it on Fox. I triple-dog dare. Find some older comments like past 8yrs ago. Its not Obama idiots.ITS GEORGE W. BUSH screwed up Adminstration.

I am a white woman who is not afraid when I meet a black man on the street. I am afraid of gangs of men or woman of any color when I am alone on the street. I don't understand why Obama has turned his back on his white grandmother and is desperately trying to fit in with the likes of Wright. Obama's wife is a racist and Obama, himself, is starting to show his true colors...that he is a racist too. So sad... and scarey if he ever becomes president.

I am 25 years old and ready to vote but not for you, because you keep bad company like The Hater Pastor Wright.
How can you and your wife subject your two little girls to such hateful comments. It's like allowing them to indulge in drug. SHAME on You!!!

questions for mr. obama -
flip flops on nafta - "just words?"
retract re: pulling out troops from iraq - "just words?"
dedicating the title to your book to the preacher you now refer to as something like your imbecile uncle - "just words?"
agreeing to a revote in MI and Fla - then, refusing to put up your end of money and allowing for revote, disenfranchising both states of millions of voters and tehn, smiling as you blame hillary for wanting to fight for voter's rights - "just words?"
YOUR KENYAN GRANDMA, during a 2007 press interview, stated she was a practicing muslim. 2/-3/2008, she states she is a practicing christian. - "just words?" (you must have put the screws to her too)
your wife not publicly commenting on anything since she dissed america's history - "just words?"
calling for hillary to release her 16 thousand page schedule for her 8 years in white house as first lady and not providing one iota of background into your tenure as a chicago state senator, claiming there isn't any documentation - "just words?"
calling for hillary to release her 2007 tax documents - where are yours? - "more words"
finding one person who can support your clim of working on behalf of low income and otherwise needy people when you were a "community organizer?" - "just words?"
claiming to have worked on committees in u.s senate when you did not hold or attend one meeting - "just words?"
claiming you did not support the iraq war, but unlike your supporter, ted kennedy - you voted in favor of every bill that has cost us trillions of dollars. your stated opposition to the war? - "just words".
replying to debate question re iraq: bo says that if we pulled out of iraq and that an insurrectin began as a result (down the line) - and, it appeared that this was going to infringe on america's rights - what would he do:
"go to war".
everytime bo has had a chance to actually do something, he hides. choosing instead, to use the words of statesmen and national heroes, as if he were in their league, as if his life work reflected on the courage of their lives or, they reflected on his - it just is not true - he uses kennedy and MLK - he uses their "words" and, he makes them small in his mouth, ...
how many people know if MLK would have enjoyed the chicago preacher sermons? wake up america, black and white alike- obama is just "words" - he is screwing with you.
all this talk about war and peace and uniting our country and peace and love and so on - they are just words. his blind ambition leading the blind faith of a public so hungry for "right action" that they are willing to be bamboozled by a flim flam, scam man.
as a person, i feel sorry for him. he clearly has no identity of his own. which, is sad because he is smart. but the ego of a man is not the man and the heroism of other men cannot be stolen from other men. or, reshaped in order to fill his hollow. and, a country cannot be lost or a democracy foiled, in order to satisfy a childhood yearning of a lost boy.
re: mr. obama,
there is a word for you: "no" - time to grow up. take responsibility for your choices and quit blaming your preacher and your grandma for your sorry story. can you imagine MLK or Kennedy blaming their mom or dad or grandma for poor judgement? geez o pete. BO can't be president. he just can't. Can you imagine MLK signing up with the black panthers and preaching love and unity? COME ON! MLK WAS A MAN. HE WAS THE MAN. AS WERE JOHN AND BOBBY KENNEDY... REAL MEN! THEY LIVED THE LIFE. WALKED THE TALK. WAKE UP, PEOPLE!!!! BO may belong on Oprah, but he sure does not belong in the white house, as our commander and chief.

Senator Obama says that he wants to be the President who transcends bigotry and hatred, yet he continues to belong to an organization that gave a lifetime achievement award to a man (Louis Farrakhan) who openly and publicly refers to Jews as "bloodsuckers." Apparently, Mr. Obama has no problem honoring people who hate Jews. I voted for Mr. Obama in the California primary. Now that I see who he really is, I wish I could take my vote back.

Obama wants to be judged for his superior judgment since he has no record of accomplishment.
Just look at the company he keeps and you will conclude that his judgment is seriously flawed. To sit in the pew for 20 years listening to a pastor who has nothing but hate for America and still not sever that relationship is troubling. To make matters worse, I bet Obama kids were in church when these sermons of hate were being spewed.
Obama is halfway fessing up now because he was exposed big time by his pastors greed to make money by selling his videos.
The other bombshell yet to come is his relationship with Tony Rezko. Rezko created and bankrolled Obama as a politician. He is dripping out lies everyday as they are pointed out by others. Obama is in trouble and he knows it. He would save the Democrats grief if he drops out now.
Posted by: Sam | Mar 20, 2008 8:28:02 PM
I don't see anything remarkable about Obama's speech. He uses pedestrian language, insipid storyline, and is utterly unable to raise himself above his own racism. Obama "cringed" when he heard his grandmother use "racial slurs", he never said he "cringed" while istening to Wright for 20 years. Obama did not "cringe" when he put a racial slur blacks use for whites, like "crackers", in his own book. Yes, Obama is a black racist and a bigot, and yes he does share the views of a man he considers to be his personal advisor. Obama is not a man for all people. He is a false prophet, and all those who sing him praises are bend-overs.
Posted by: lana rinsky | Mar 20, 2008 8:03:54 PM
This story is very dumb. Why is Obama being held responsible for what every person he has ever been around has said? If that was the case then we could not be friends with anyone. I do not know anyone that share every view that I have and agree with everything I believe. Second, Obama could possibly have helped Wright not be racist.
Again people have managed not to focus on the real issues but focus on something that has nothing to do with anything.

The sad fact is that Obama finds himself in this predicament because he was forced to ''choose'' a race. Would Obama have had a political future if he had not planted grass roots in the black community? I suspect not. He could have walked out of Rev. Wright's racist sermons, he could have chose a different path, a different church. He, more than most, knew a fuller truth. But in America, biracials are forced to choose sides. Their world can be a lonely place if they fail to do so. And that truth is no different for one so blessed and talented as Barack Obama.

I can’t believe people are still blind sighted by Obama after he finally came clean that he has witnessed some of these outrageous sermons and still protects their relationship. Did we forget that he initially claimed that he wasn’t aware of any of his racist pastor’s/mentor’s outrageous sermons. We call these people LIARS. He has been a member of this church for nearly 20 yrs, married by this man, and his children baptized by him. Not to mention that he used to listen to his tapes when he was in college. Are we to believe that he is not highly influenced or brain-washed by this man? He may know the difference but what about his kids listening to these lies?
At first I questioned Obama’s integrity when he tried to distance himself from this man that he holds a lot of respect for. He is after all his Mentor. Why not stand up for yourself. Then when he came clean and still protected his relationship with this bigot, I said - finally he’s revealing his true colors. Wake up! All this will cost him the election and we’ll end up with McCain! Is that what we really want? If Obama really loves this country, he will just step down. All he’s doing is hurting our only chance of changing this country around and that’s not with McCain.
Let’s remind ourselves that Obama is running for The President of The United States of America. Our President should unite our country and not divide us. I think it is naive if we ignore this because we want change so much. Non-African Americans should also think twice if they believe that Obama doesn’t have a hidden agenda or doesn’t have an obligation to his race. The pressure he will receive when he’s in office will be endless and they will call him a sell-out if he doesn’t comply. I’m sorry to say this but our country is not yet ready to have an African-American be in the oval office. Not because we’re racist, but Obama is not our guy and will never and should not be our President.

Obama says he never heard minister Wright say any hateful sermons, my question is, do we want a president that will never take responsability because he never knew? also he claims he couldn't do anything as a senator because of Washington poletics, what makes him think that washington poletics are going to be different
just because he is president?
Posted by: carolina | Mar 20, 2008 6:23:03 PM
it is all about JUDGEMENT. not words but actions.Obama showed bringing his family to a church like this is a disgrace his judgement is gone.If he can't disown Wright then he must respect & like him. While Wright Hates America, our governemnt & white people. Says "Hillary will never know what's it's like to be a black man Obama does". He went to Harvard,PLEASE-& you do not have to be black to help black people! Obama's OWN granny wouldn't feel comfortable in that church so he dissed her. Oprah left that church in the 90's & Obama stayed.
THIS IS about JUDGEMENT & ACTIONS.
I am sorry but it's over.
Hillary make us proud as a white women.oh can I say that. YES I AM PROUD a women finally in the drivers sit & behind the wheel. She has WORKED HARD through school& in her life!. NOTHING was giving to her women know we must fight harder, but if we are too strong we are a bit**, If we speak up we sound whinny.
GET OVER IT. HILLARY take it on home.
I'd love to see you push the boyz club aside this is once in a lifetime.& have a black women as VP.
I think that's empowering!

Hey Jerry,
I didn't mean for you to read his speech. It's more than one sentence and doesn't have pictures. When you learn to read, give it a try.
Posted by: Kevin | Mar 20, 2008 5:30:32 PM
Obama's speech did one thing: it proved what a fake, liar, and deceiver he is. I honestly hope the media plummets him into the ground about this. He has misled America completely, has no substance, or credibility as it now seems. Give it up, Obama...you're finished! McCain and the GOP's will shred you if you make it that far......glad America has front row seats!

I dont think I fully understand your comment.

Monique,
Let's get real. Asians can work here in the U.S. and benefit, and they can work in Asian coutries and benefit. Especially if you happen to be Japanese. China is starting to pick up in terms of their Economy now.
Being black, I have no options as to where i can go and find a black nation that is competetive in today's market. We are non-existant and I think it is wrong when you put all of the cards on the table.
I can guarantee when you look at everything Mathematically that there is a problem with Black People.
There are rare occasion where I see some black people in high positions, but it is extremely rare.
Affirmative Action has been manipulated to the point where is it used against the Black Man.
If it truly benefitted us, there would be more black owned businesses and more black corporations.
I work DownTown Chicago and I know exactly what I am talking about. Every company I have worked for has been predominately White where they form alliances against you and prevent you from moving up because we all know, you can't move up unless you have people supporting you.

That was a dirty thing to use this race card to make most Americans feel that our country is still divided like this, and to plant in our minds that we still have a race war like we had in the 50's,60's,70's-------. If Mr. Obama felt like that why would he say that he would like this change? Why is saying these things if it were not what he wishes for? I did not hear Hillary or McCain speaking of Bringing this country together at all. If you would like to keep the country divide and split, with hatered that will continue for another 100 years, yes go ahead and vote for Hillary or John McCain. How can you consider Mr. Obama as black only when he's half and half? That represents change right there. Please wake-up and not use those things that were said about someone that is not in the race to stop someone that will bring healing to America.

Shoot this one and shoot that one, and east coast/west coast hate creating drama are talents?
And first of all, I happen to work for a company with 70,000 employees. And according to our records black employees are 42,000 of the consensus, compared to Asians which are 5,000 and other minorities who fair less.
So don't come on here and try to be like Obama and call yourself a freakin victim. I'm sick and tired of the victimi approach.
Posted by: Monique | Mar 20, 2008 4:58:05 PM
Did anyone else feel threatened when Rev. Wright said "Black men turning on black men – that is fighting the wrong enemy. . .?
Posted by: tony | Mar 20, 2008 4:57:40 PM
Where are these blacks that are benefitting from Affirmative Action?
The problem with this thing, is when I do manage to land a job in a Corporate environment, through hard work and fortunate opportunity, in a predominately all white job, people tend to think I am there because of Affirmative Action.
With this kind of thinking, that is why most jobs you go to, is blacks are at the very bottom, and whites are always in Supervisory and Management positions.
It can get so bad sometimes, it looks like modern day slavery.
Every other race has a business going for them, but black people are only known for music and sports, which are both natural talents.
Where is my inheritence? Why does every other child of a different race gets an inheritance, and yet I am lacked with the opportunity or the benefit from my race?
That concept by any means is NOT fair.

Hi Ann,
I don't agree that Obama is similar to McGovern. I voted against McGovern (for Nixon) and I'm for Obama. Obama is going to win most of independents and some rebublicans. This "race" issue will only sway people who would have never voted for him in the first place. The only way Obama doesn't win is if enough of Clinton's closest and most rapid supporters (older women) stay home or vote for McCain because they're upset that Clinton lost.
Posted by: Kevin | Mar 20, 2008 4:51:46 PM
Rowland, you're saying blacks are not treated fairly? I think they are treated more fairly than many groups. Affirmative Action is one, and EEOC monitors it.
Some young African Americans in states, such as New York and California are filled with hate (gangster rap, preaching violence in rap songs, changing ratings on music to Mature Audience as a result) -- it's not like they lived in the past when segregation existed and their parents and/or their grandparents were witnesses and receivers to that hate. Many of those parents and/or grandparents are supporters of Hillary and not Obama.
I'm not sure where you're living, but I think you need to travel more.
Posted by: Monique | Mar 20, 2008 4:43:31 PM
History,
Yes.....McGovern lost to Nixon by 49 states in 1972. We are looking at a similar outcome here if the Democratic party is insane enough to give the nomination to Obama. Unqualified and now, unfit.
Posted by: Ann | Mar 20, 2008 4:34:04 PM
Bottom line....this has nothing to do with race, this has to do with hating America and all for which she stands.
It is ludcrous to think that someone who chose to align themselves for 20 years with someone who so cleary seethes with hatred with America (whatever the "justification") is qualified to lead our nation as the Commander in Chief. If he was white and had been aligned with such a hate-monger, he would have already been forced to step aside.
Posted by: Outraged | Mar 20, 2008 4:30:03 PM
Shade,
At least we have affirmative action, what about the other races out there? What did they get? It seems to me that they got the shorter end of the stick.
Unfortunately, I have to leave. I'll try to come on later to answer any additional questions.
Enjoy the rest of your day.

Democrats have just lost the election, if HRC get nominated. With Lanny Davis's comments above, it is unlikely Blacks will vote for Clinton. Democrats can kiss 12 percent of the electorate goodbye and the presidential election as well. It's just a well, the smarter party should win the presidency and right now, that is the republicans.
Posted by: Tim | Mar 20, 2008 4:25:51 PM
Blah Blah blah!!!
Admit it, Obama is rascist!! He is inexperienced with 8 years as a state Senator from Illnois and a first-term U.S. Senator!! He dropped the ball and does not even deserve to be compared to John MCcain and Hillary Clinton. They both have a lifetime experience in public life. What does he have besides his feel good speaches and his "Change" rhetoric? It is about time the truth has come out!
Posted by: b daley | Mar 20, 2008 4:24:27 PM
Now see Smart Thinker,
That is where our upbringing does come to play because to me, it seemed very racist for her to say that.
To me, she tries to bring up the issue of Affirmative Action, and of course that invoked a lot of anger in White Working Class Men.
Dealing with jeremiah Wright, so far I can't say that he is racist based on his statements, because I do understand what he is saying, and that is because of my upbringing of suffering as a black man.
I dont necessary agree with a lof of this statements, but to me, he is bringing out issues that makes "comfortable" people squirm.
Posted by: shade | Mar 20, 2008 4:18:53 PM
Well Shade,
Yes, you study that more on your own and get back to me.
In terms of race being a sensitive matter, he should have told that to his campaign, since it was his campaign that provoked it by pressing Hillary to get rid of Ferraro. Although, what Ferraro said was not racist in any way whatsoever, and cannot be compared to his 20 years affiliation, advise therefrom, and family-like relationship with a known hater.
Posted by: Smart Thinker | Mar 20, 2008 4:09:40 PM
Smart Thinker,
with his contradiction, I dont know what to say about that, and I will have to study that more on my own. The person who will have to answer that will have to be Obama.
I know with why he may have stuttered on the issue however, and everyone can agree on this, is that the topic is SENSITIVE.
It takes a whole lot of wisdom, a whole lot of preparation, and a whole lot of honesty, to speak in the way that a lot of people are saying that no other politician has done.
Posted by: shade | Mar 20, 2008 4:01:53 PM
Because the media has brought this out about Obama
I am now proud to be an American.
I can relate to Michelle Obama...LOL
Posted by: Jean | Mar 20, 2008 4:00:12 PM
Its sad to see how his speech has caused more damage to his campaign and his shady associations with people that are extreme in their views.
I don't think he has a legitimate voice to now tell the super delegates please give me the nomination! I don't care how many pledged delegates he has.
The fact is all the "red states" he carried are now and forever LOST!
# OBAMA HAS HIT HIS PLATEAU AND is not winning any more INDEPENDENT votes##
this is tragic but I believe he will not win the general election if he does get the nomination.

hi.. read this on another blog, but needed to share it:
"There is an incredible amount of dislike/hatred of Clinton among the Obama supporters. This surprises me. Is Hillary ambitious? Yes. Does she (and her husband) have "warts"? Yes. That said, she has dedicated her life towards Democratic causes, especially child welfare, health care, and the working poor. She has used her celebrity to raise money for and to help elect dozens of Democratic leaders. She has been an EXEMPLARY Senator for NY (spoken as a NYer), rolling up her sleeves and delving into minutiae to solve issues on behalf of both Democratic AND Republican constituents. She has demonstrated an unbelievable level of grace and calm in the face of painful and globally-broadcast bad behavior (yes, by Bill, but I am talking about the right-wing media). She has reached across the aisle, swallowing her pride, to work with Republicans who were awful to her, so that she could get Democratic legislation passed. So Obama supporters, what gives? There is an incredible amount of dislike/hatred of Clinton among the Obama supporters. This surprises me. Is Hillary ambitious? Yes. Shade,
If he doesn't know how to respond, then he should have said the truth from the beginning.
I did hear his speech, watched it and read it twice. It is a good "recited" speech. The fact that he said he wasn't there during his interview on Friday and then retracing it by saying he was there during his Tuesday speech is what? It's lying.
My issue and concern about Obama is that the fact he is an attorney (who is being called a counsel and an advisor), shouldn't he know Wright from Wrong and choose accordingly?
It's clear and present that the media (CNN and MSNBC in particular) have been too lenient on him. It's time that he realize just because he easily won Illinois, doesn't mean he will easily will the presidency nor the nomination for that matter.
He's destined for failure.
Posted by: Smart Thinker | Mar 20, 2008 3:54:43 PM
Double standard. Sharpton, Jackson went crazy when Imus uttered those despicable words and he was fired.
Wright speaks in a very despicable way about the white man and America, nobody is allowed to say anything or you will be called a racist or a bigot.
The problem with BO's speech is he hinted that due to slavery and injustice its okay for us to speak in hatred etc.
BO it does not go both ways, you told Don Imus to get fired, but you insisted to sit and listen to this hatred for 20 years with Wright. This is Hypocrisy.
To fix this problem, well too late.
These are legitimate points they are raising if Mccain or Hillary were part of a "White Supermacist" White centric church they would not be where they were today!
Its inexcusable for Obama to get a Free pass and we are suppose to feel like victims and blame ourselves for why Wright and others feel so much hatred for America? No I don't think so.
Obama's speech was not enough and I would like to see his senate records in Illinois, why can't he release them.
Posted by: Not enough | Mar 20, 2008 3:54:21 PM
Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee's comments regarding Obama and Wright were fair and balanced. Hope the country is ready to listen and respond appropriately. Tempers are short, bills are due and children are suffering. It's time to move on.

You know Smart Thinker,
I dont think he acted ignorant, I believe he didn't quite know how to respond to such of this vast isssue. Really a lof of these questions could be answered if you will watch Obama's Speech on Racism.
I did take the time to listen to all 37 minutes of it, which I hate to say it, may be too long for people to give it the attention that it deserves.
So what this does is let the media tell us what the speech meant, and all of them are not quite correct in the P.O.V.
Posted by: shade | Mar 20, 2008 3:44:45 PM
Obama has this pattern of using the race card against any people who criticize him.
Race is indeed an important discussion and worthwhile to be had. But that is not the real questions that we ask Obama to answer. So, he is doing exactly what he has be
