The Belly of the Architect
March 10, 2008 7:21 AM
In Barack Obama's favorite newspaper -- the University of Iowa's Daily Iowan, which his campaign quotes from quite liberally -- a story about a not-so-warm campus welcome for former White House adviser Karl Rove.
Six different community coalitions formed "The Karl Rove Welcoming Committee" asked cops to arrest Rove for treason, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, the paper reports.
"A woman charged up an aisle, her hands shaking, as she called for Rove to be arrested. And in a row near the front, a veteran told a different 84-year-old veteran to 'F--- off' when he asked him to stop shouting...
"Rove took on the audience of roughly 1,100 - telling a woman who yelled that that UI wanted the $40,000 speaking fee they paid back, simply, 'You can't have it.'...
"He told another man his comment showed, 'a simple, stupid mind, with all due respect.'"

Geevill, Because the story is not over. Why did Harper's right hand man say that the Clinton people told them to "take it with a grain of salt", referring to her anti-NAFTA position - and then Harper turns around and says it's untrue? Harper is Bush. I believe anything that comes out of the Harper administration about as much as I believe the Bush adminstration's lies (WMD, Plame-gate...). The Clintons aren't dumb. They are well aware of Harper's problems - they are just playing it for political gain. I think the people of Pennsylvania are simply too smart to fall for it. And if we get down to issues, what's the difference between their positions? Except that we're supposed to believe that Mrs. Clinton, who was apparently involved in every decision Bill has ever made was against NAFTA? Why should anyone believe that one?

Yes, Obama supporter JoAnne has been posting the opposite of the truth. that Clinton people met with them and not Obama's. Why is it so hard for Obama and his supporters to admit his deception?

Geevill: Does anyone say that Goolsbee didn't meet with somebody from the Canadian government? I sure don't. He did. But the full truth about all of this is (both candidates and the Candaians) is not goint to come out before Pennsylvania primary or probably even November. And Spook is wrong. The Canadians are investigating it, although Harper is letting his own people run the investigation. Which is kind of like letting Bush run his own investigation on Scooter Libby. Remember what Bush said about the Plame case? “I want to know the truth. … I have no idea whether we’ll find out who the leaker is, partially because, in all due respect to your profession, you do a very good job of protecting the leakers.” [Fox News, 10/8/03]

Now the Obama supporters are admitting his camp did meet with the Canadians. and somehow blaming Clinton for it.

Spock: You make a lot of allegations. If they is any truth to them Back them up. With a reference and a date.

JoAnne - actuall it was found out that it was not clinton but Obama, and that Clinton contacted them afterwards, and the canadain government to play nice added her afterwards.
Now to the issue, This Libs in the Iowa campus should be ashamed of themselves and hod there heads in the sand. The sickening way they behaved is a true showing that our education system sucks!
I also find it funny that they preach Free Speech, but yet they never let anyone speak.
It will be the fault of the libs like this when this Great Country falls! (especially if Obama and Clinton get elected, then we will fall)
So anything said about Obama is going to be racist, but yet he Barack Hussein Obama said he would not play the race card. But yet since then the complained about Bill saying that Obama beliefs about Policy was a Fairytale they said was racist, please explain where?
The on another a talk show host talking toa crowd used Barrack's middle name, and that was racist, please tell me where?
Who would win the election if each group voted for their race? Obama is a racist and thats all there is to it, anyone who uses the race card is!

MattOhio:
1. Obama did not talk to the Canadian government on NAFTA. A member of Obama’s staff, Goolsbee, met with a Canadian in Chicago. The Canadian wrote his version of that meeting. There are no recorded statements. There are no witnesses. This is the equivalent of taking the word of one guy against another guy in a bar (except for those international implications). It’s called hearsay.
2. This meeting, and one man’s version of this meeting, was leaked in a memo. The Canadians believe that it was leaked by through the office of their PM. Mr. Harper. They believe this so strongly that they are calling for an independent investigation into the leak. "New reports indicate very clearly that it was Ian Brodie, the chief of staff," New Democratic Party Leader Jack Layton said yesterday in the Commons. "My question to the Prime Minister is very simple. Will he now apologize to this House, the American people and Senator Obama, and will he fire his chief of staff?" (Globe and Mail)
3. The Clinton campaign contends that it has had no contact with the Canadians. After media reports which dispute this, Harper, the PM, who is about as trustworthy as George Bush, has said they are correct. But the press refutes this claim. In reference to a Canadian concerns about anti-Nafta positions, Brodie, Harper’s chief of staff, stated the following: "He said someone from (Hillary) Clinton's campaign is telling the embassy to take it with a grain of salt. . . That someone called us and told us not to worry." This was not said in a one-on-one conversation; it was said in a room full of people. "Quite a few people heard it," said one source in the room." (Globe and Mail).
4). If the Americans are willing to take their news straight from Mark Penn and the Clinton campaign, the Canadians are not. “ NDP Leader Jack Layton is asking Mr. Harper to call on the Mounties to find out how the leaks occurred, and whether the Security of Information Act or any other privacy legislation was breached.”…“ that's small potatoes compared with inflicting political damage on one of the three contenders to lead the world's biggest superpower, and Canada's neighbour and largest trading partner.”
5. The Clinton campaign clearly used this to political advantage – even though it is an issue still under investigation, it will take months for the true facts to come out, and the Clinton-Obama positions on NAFTA are almost identical. Again, from the Canadian press: “Ms. Clinton's chief strategist, Mark Penn, said Wednesday in a conference call with reporters that the so-called "NAFTA-gate" leaks "had a significant impact" on the key race in Ohio, where Ms. Clinton won handily.”
I do not believe the voters of Ohio are stupid or illiterate. My family comes from the midwest and I get tired ofignorant jokes about the midwest. And I think that Bill Clinton's NAFTA agreement was an devil's deal that hurt a lot of Americans. But I hope that the voters in Pennsylvania try to learn as much as they can about the facts behind this issue before they vote, and I hope that their primary source of information is not Mark Penn or Howard Wolfson.

So Al Sharpton wants to sue if Florida delegates are counted. Bring it on I say. the death blow to Obama's charade.

So is Bill Clinton running to be the leader of the free world? Why put a spin his comments in SC? He dint say anything racist there.
Why are you all trying to defend Michelle Obama but not Bill Clinton?

"Did you give her the benefit of doubt?"
Didn't Michele O was running to be the leader of the free world. So I guess I haven't given much thought to what she said.

Clinton didn't brief Canadian officials on NAFTA stand: PMO
Obama's team also initially denied that they had played down their NAFTA rhetoric to Canadian officials, but this week, the Illinois senator was firmly in the hot seat when someone leaked a diplomatic memo that seemed to confirm CTV's story
The memo, written by a Canadian diplomat, outlined a Feb. 8 meeting between Austan Goolsbee, one of Obama's economic advisers, and officials at Canada's consulate in Chicago.
The document says Goolsbee reassured Canadian consular staff that the NAFTA comments were to be seen as "more reflective of political manoeuvring than policy
Can Obama supporters please stop spreading misinformation?
Posted by: Geevill | Mar 10, 2008 11:45:29 AM
Wrong again. The Obama camp did contact the Canadians to tell them he was only giving lip service to opposing NAFTA (and his Iraq plan is only lip serive too). That is the absolute truth. They denied it and eventual a memo was produced proving it.

Commander Guy
Take comments at face-value. Dont put a spin onto a straight-forward comment that Hillary made.
Have you questioned these comments by Michelle Obama?
Mrs. Obama regards America as "just downright mean," and Americans as "guided by fear," America is a nation of cynics, sloths, and complacents, "and it's gotten worse over my lifetime.... The life that I'm talking about that most people are living has gotten progressively worse since I was a little girl."
Did you give her the benefit of doubt?
Posted by: MattOhio | Mar 10, 2008 11:25:06 AM
The Canadian government has said there is no evidence that either Clinton or Obama's campaigns said anything about the NAFTA issue. So it's a moot point. So both sides should move on. Let's talk about what a despicable person Karl Rove is.
Posted by: Mike | Mar 10, 2008 11:15:31 AM
Thanks for the clarification Geevil.
I dont know why the Obama supporters are trying to put a spin on NAFTA-gate
Posted by: MattOhio | Mar 10, 2008 10:53:58 AM
The Canadaian Prime Minister's office has stated that only the Obama campaign contacted them about his anti-NAFTA stance being rhethoric.

Same holds for you. If there is nothing substantial to add to a conversation, it is always wise to remain quiet. Dont do what Samantha Power and Goolsbee did to the Obama Campaign. You are not helping.
1. Dont try to distort facts. Obama talked to Canada Govt on NAFTA.
2. Be reasonable and true.
3. Dont preach until you practice. Actions with the right conscience are the order of the day.
4. Try to contribute to the future of America by highlighting the good traits of a candidate.
There is nothing positive about being mean and inconsiderate of an opponent.

Looks like Hillary pulled a Romney on the NAFTA-gate issue, i.e., attacking the other candidate for holding a position that you in fact hold.
This is just like the phony striking terrorists in Pakistan controversy she tried to gin up at the last debate.
Her M.O. is predictable.

If a rumor is good to use about Obama then this one is good for Clinton:
Harper's chief of staff, Ian Brodie, last week said someone in Clinton's campaign had called to tell Canada "not to worry" about her campaign comments about reopening the North American Free Trade Agreement.

MattOhio she's just spouting the obama point people on talk shows. Who keep trying to tie Clinton camp into this embarassment for him.
Posted by: toby | Mar 10, 2008 10:26:14 AM
According to this website it is a virtual tie on the popular vote. Plus Clinton has won all the major democrat states that are needed, and she has the democrat base of voters. I agree obama should quit 3 times for the knockout blow that has never come.
Posted by: toby | Mar 10, 2008 10:23:52 AM
Barack Obama should just quit. If he has not been able to deliver a knock out punch to Hillary by now how the heck could he possibly beat McCain?
As for this "will of the people" arguement...isn't Hillary ahead in popular vote (if you count Florida and Michigan) now and what if she is when all the primaries and caucuses are done? Then what will you say?
Posted by: Eric | Mar 10, 2008 10:17:18 AM
webster...it was revealed yesterday that it was the Clinton campaign, not the Obama campaign, that had the meeting with the Canadians about NAFTA. So what do you think about Hillary now? Also, Hillary before running for President said that it was OK to use torture in some cases. Now that she is running for President, no torture should be used. She accused Obama of using Karl Rove tactics. He didn't, but she did, does, and will. See my post from 8:20. I think your candidate has a little credibility problem. Stop drinking the Clinton Kool Aid!
Posted by: JoAnne | Mar 10, 2008 10:16:24 AM
In 2008, Senator Obama rails against NAFTA in Ohio while his top economic advisor assures the Canadians his rhetoric is just "political positioning."
It turns out those speeches were just words. And if you can't trust Senator Obama's words, what's left?
Posted by: webster | Mar 10, 2008 10:00:05 AM
The Clintons won't win even with FI and MI. She still won't have enough votes and in my guy I feel that the Supers won't go against the will of the people...imagine the landslide McCain would win by if they stole the election from the people. Perhaps we should all flood the news media with shouts of "Hell no she won't go" and if she does? Then we vote Republican because it will be apparent that the Democratic party no longer exist. Only the wants of a few.
Posted by: Sam | Mar 10, 2008 9:51:13 AM
agreed JoAnne, and I believe that sentiment is starting to resonate across the country. God help us all if the DNC gives her the nomination.
After reading these posts for the last month or so, it is really disheartening to hear the hillary supporters spread the lies, distortions, and constant innuendo. It just proves that the majority of these people have no clue as to what hillary and bill are really all about. To have that couple back in the white house would be political suicide for the democratic party.
I have already moved away from the dems and will not vote for hillary should she be the nominee.
I can only pray that MI and FL, should they have a do-over, mail-in or otherwise, realize just what is at stake.

I think it is sad our country is leaning towards the Clintons again. They are pratically forcing Obama to accept this...

Rove is a sociopath, a character assassin--a skilled hit-man, nothing more. That he is "in demand" as a speaker speaks volumes about the neocon success of "reality creation" about which he bragged to Suskind.
Naturally the Clintons (the "good cop" of the Bush/Clinton tag team) would value his skills and work to protect him from prosecution.
Posted by: realitybased | Mar 10, 2008 8:33:27 AM
Of course, Hillary and Bill have no problem with Rove and his tactics:
The Clintons recognize the skill Rove has brought to politics and admire his craft, if not his ideology. Just days after the November 2004 election, Bill Clinton pulled Rove aside at the dedication of the William J. Clinton Presidential Library in Arkansas. "Hey, you did a marvelous job, it was just marvelous what you did," Clinton told Rove, according to the book "The Way to Win: Taking the White House in 2008," by John F. Harris and Mark Halperin. "I want to get you down to the library. I want to talk politics with you. You just did an incredible job, and I'd like to really get together with you and I think we could have a great conversation."
Frankly, the Clintons are sickening.
