A Gutsy Stabenow Speaks on the Senate Floor

April 02, 2008 3:37 PM

Her husband's admission to Michigan police that he paid a prostitute hit the headlines today, but an undeterred Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., took to the Senate floor this afternoon to advocate for a foreclosure relief bill.

"In Michigan these are not families that were flipping their houses or speculating on real estate," she said. "These are hard working families that have played by the rules their entire lives."

Stabenow added that "in Michigan we've been in recession for quite some time now. We are tough in Michigan, and resilient, and working hard to bring new opportunities and new industries."

Amen to the tough part, senator.

The Detroit Free Press reported today that Stabenow's husband Thomas Athans, also known for founding a liberal talk radio network, told cops in February that he paid $150 for sex.

You can read the police report, obtained by the Free Press through the Freedom of Information Act, HERE if you'd like to know more about Detective Mork, the Residence Inn near Big Beaver Road, and 20-year-old Alycia Lorraine Martin whose advertisement can be found HERE.

It's all pretty sad.

And Stabenow coming to the floor of the Senate is pretty gutsy.

ABC News' Z. Byron Wolf noted not only that Stabenow had the fortitude to come to speak on the Senate floor today, but that she was followed by Sen. David Vitter, R-La.

Has Vitter resigned?

uh, SHE isn't the one who hired a prostitute or solicited gay sex in a public restroom, so it's unclear as to why you ask if it means she should she resign - duh??

vparker, you're right, women never do stuff like this, like going to prostitutes. They just become teachers and seduce their young boy students. Or drown their own kids, or some other horrors.

Start watching the news - you might learn just what women are capable of doing, and it ain't all sugar and spice.

Poor debbie, all the work she has done for women and girls and now her husband did this and with a very young girl. It breaks my heart. Women NEVER do things like this and that is why I, like Dee Dee Myers, think women should rule the world.

Does this mean that she has to resign... oh wait, Democrat, then there's no problem. Right. Does this mean she gets to play the victim card like Hilliary? Great, now she'll run for President in four years too!
