Air America Host Suspended for Attacking Clinton
April 03, 2008 8:39 PM
At a recent event for KKGN, the Air America outlet in San Francisco, talk show host Randi Rhodes had some rather pointed remarks about Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, and former vice presidential nominee Geraldine Ferraro, likening them to the world's oldest professionals.
You can watch Rhodes's remarks HERE.
The Huffington Post reports that Air America has suspended Rhodes:
"Air America has suspended on-air host Randi Rhodes for making inappropriate statements about prominent figures, including Senator Hillary Clinton, at a recent public appearance on behalf of Air America in San Francisco which was sponsored by an Air America affiliate station. 'Air America encourages strong opinions about public affairs but does not condone such abusive, ad hominem language by our Hosts,' said chair Charlie Kireker."
Rhodes was telling a comedic monologue, but she was clearly also not happy about Clinton's constant reminder to pledged delegates that they can vote any way they want under Democratic Party rules. One can view this incident as a lone incident, or one can view it as symbolic of Democratic anger with Clinton.

Randi Rhodes should be fired like Don Imus was. What she said is far worse. For years Rhodes has been screaming how W had destroyed all of the good work the Clintons did in the 90's. Now, some tall dark and handsome man flashes his pearly whites and she turns into a groupie with a mouth, no less. Women like her and Oprah are mind boggling. I suspect they will not and cannot support a more powerful woman. These types of women apparently need men to lead them.

Thank G-D they finally took her down.
She is a foul-mouthed, arrogant full of herself creep who single handedly is splitting the democratic party (something she accuses others of doing). On her last day on the air she was bashing Hillary so hard that one caller said as a result that if Obama didn't get the nomination she would vote for Ralph Nader. Is this the unity we're looking for???
Even if this incident was used as a pretext to shut her up...I applaud it!

I never liked Randi Rhodes before she went on her anti-Clinton tirade -- she's coarse, loud-mouthed, and hectoring. Since she has made it her mission to trash Hillary I've stopped listening. I'm very, very happy to hear that she's been suspended from Air America, hopefully for a long time. Where I live Sam Seder has replaced her, and that's a substantial upgrade.

On Jay Leno, HRC said she had to dodge
sniper fire at the local airport on her
way to the show.
When troops in Bosnia, Iraq and
Afghanistan are facing real fire on the frontlines this kind of comment is
thoroughly disrespectful. And she's
is running for President! Of which
country?
It does not reflect well on the
intellectually-challenged people voting
for her either.

Randi has been running with the boys in talk radio for too long, she thinks she is one of them. There is nothing more sickening than a woman who is a male chauvinist pig. Regardless of how she feels about Saint Obmama and the second coming, she had no right to attack Clinton on such a personal level. Her actions tell more about her and the Obama following than about Clinton.

It seems there is a lot of anger being expressed -- some of the posts are "livid" --
All of these comments began because of an Air America host using inappropriate and unacceptable language during a broadcast or gathering.
It just proves a point --
aggression breeds more aggression
hate speech breeds more hate speech
It would be good to get back to the issues.

When I hear terms like the following:
silent majority
henchmen
so called woman
threw his white grandmother (who raised him) under the bus
gang.
My hear my way or else.
If women are a majority of the Democratic party, why are there less than 10 female senators and less than 1 or 2 female governors in recent years.
If women have been there from the start and had to claw their way up, why are you targeting Obama for your frustration? Why not go after those men (by men I think you mean white men) who you feel like should be supporting women (by women I think you mean white men)?
I think it is fascinating to watch those intra community (I mean within the white community) conversation spill out into a public debate. I was amazed when I read what the NY NOW chapter president said about Kennedy owing her organization his superdelegate vote because NOW had supporting him throughout the time he was in office.
What is the exchange? Is it respect, esteem, or something else? What is the quid pro quo exactly? Whether it be Dodd, Kerry or Kennedy, what have male politicians promised in the past that they are now reneging?

Randi Rhodes for Veep!
Posted by: anon | Apr 4, 2008 1:59:38 PM
I am kind of shocked. Damn.
I know how black people attack each other when we are in an argument. I've watched women hit other women on how well they raise their children, maintain their households, what kind of man they have, or even whether they are capable of getting a man, but I've not seen this kind of attack.
I am not guilt free on attacking a woman on the above bases. I have never disagreed with another woman on her political beliefs and called her a whore or a b*tch or intimated her husband cheats on her because of her political beliefs. Rhodes hit on a divide I didn't even know existed amongst women.
It is ad hominem. It is abusive. I don't think it is true either.
I don't know much about Rhodes but ugh, it looks bad. Should she be fired on the basis of this rant? Is it as bad as Don Imus?
Ladies, what do you think? We do tend to be vicious when it comes to dissecting other women, is this fair game? Are we at the point that we'd shred Hillary and Geraldine along these lines?
I think Hillary should stay in long enough to address gender within her community. There are women who have come out against her and who support her. Do their support or lack of support stem from how they feel about her ability to represent other women?

Not This Woman - Not at This Moment
Gender bias is very acceptable all around the world, and it's been rearing it's ugly head in the democratic primary.
Generally, I think it's a good thing for the most part, that our society has an open, friendly, often humorous dialog about gender. It's better that tip-toeing around our differences, as we often do on racial and religious issues, afraid of saying the wrong thing and causing offense. Most of the time, I wouldn't find a lot of this stuff offensive.
On the other hand, we have allies, such as Saudi Arabia, where women are beaten for being raped, aren't allowed to drive a car, or attend school. There are practices like arranged marriages, honor killings, forced abortions, sexual slavery, and female castration that we, as a world power, should be more outraged about, more proactive to end than we are.
I wonder how many people know the percentage of women who are raped and/or victims of domestic violence during their lifetimes? I believe it's 1 in 4 or 1 in 5. Women in some countries are still treated as property.
Women have had to fight for the right to vote, own property, and a lot of other rights men took for granted and still do. You can say a lot of things about Hillary Clinton, but you can't say she hasn't been an advocate for women and children her entire life.
So, yes, I take gender slurs against the first woman to have a serious shot at the presidency of this country seriously. I don't think they have a place in the discourse any more than racial slurs against Obama. Denigrate her for her policies or her integrity, but not because she's female. Not this women - not at this moment. It denigrates all women. Like her or hate her, all women deserve this one small concession in the dialog. Women's suffering is usually the last to be acknowledged or addressed.
In this election, for once, we should be as sensitive to gender slurs as we are racial slurs and be proud of these historic candidates we've selected.
I'm not some rabid feminist, but I am extremely proud that a women has broken through and come so close to leading this country, but just like there are ignorant people who won't vote for Obama because he's a black man, there are people who won't for for Clinton because she's a woman, and I've encountered quite a few of them. They call me "honey" and "babe" and tell me not to get emotional.

Hillary has been touting herself as the
"3:00 a.m. red phone candidate".
According to a news report, her poorly
managed campaign is about 14 million
dollars in debt including the 5 million
she loaned to it.
She should know that the red phone and all the other phones will be diconnected by the phone company because she can't pay her bills.
And the lights will be turned off by the utility company.

It turns out that there was some Obama campaign involvement in that Randi Rhodes, now infamous, event.
Get digging reporters.
There's another story here.

Bush
Clinton
Clinton
Bush
Bush
Clinton (Hillary?)
Bush (Jeb?)
Clinton (Chelsea?)
The darkest days in history of the US happens in the hands of this two families: two wars, 9/11 and the worst economy ever since WW II. What other proof do we need?
Hillary asked who is the commander of chief able to make split-second decicions on 3 AM. Certainly not her. I rather put my trust in an emotional stable person with outstanding communication skills and a pragmatic approach, advised and backed-up with the cleverest staff.
Does America deserve better??
Yes it does.
Does America have nothing better??
Yes we do, his name is Obama!

ok kay,
THIS IS THE LAST TIME I WILL REPLY to you
The media is slanted in favor of obama
and even they reported how John Lewis was being threatened by his people
Shelia Jackson Lee is another one
stephanie tubbs jones is another one
all of the black elected officials that support clinton are being threatened by their black people (obama has caused this divide) these people have a right to support whomsoever they please.
If you support obama-I hope you will be able to say you support him (to yourself-don't write back and tell me-that you support him because you are sue he is going to be able to make your life better-in exchange for you helping him)
since you support him-please start walking his talk
Posted by: jgaw | Apr 4, 2008 11:58:53 AM
ok, Kay,
While I was giving thoughtful consideration and trying to answer your comments to me.
while I was writing-you had to go and write the crazy stuff you just wrote to me.
I can tell from your comments-you need hillary to be in the white house fighting for you and your interest.
I thought I was communicating with a halfway intelligent person..
I will not reply to anything else you have to write.
but I will tell you this-
please do not just vote for obama because he is black
I would not vote for hillary just because she was a woman.
there is a lot more to consider.
try to find out something more about obama that what the media is feeding you.
because they are tainted.
You do not have to tell me-I will keep my vote.
and if by some miracle obama gets past mccain and the right wing machine of karl rove and co.
and obama gets into the white house
I'll bet you will be wishing you had kept your vote also.
from the note you just wrote to me I can see what kind of change obama has had on you.
the country is headed for big trouble
Posted by: jgaw | Apr 4, 2008 11:39:29 AM
Jgaw,
We dont need your vote, go and vote your lier Hillary.
I think she has promised you position when she lied and become president.
Your only vote can put Obama in white house, so keep your vote with you.
Obama will win and win big in November.
You and your Hillarians are big dividers not Obama
Posted by: Kay | Apr 4, 2008 11:07:10 AM
Jgaw,
If Hillary will not accept to be 1st American woman VP let her go and create her own party so that she can control the party as she want and continue to lie so that she can become president. she can not control us here at D party,
I am a white guy but disgusted to hear a black person telling us that Obama has divided the D Party, even the black community. Can you explain how you came about this so the rest of us can look into it and decided whether to support Hillary or stick with the divider she Obama is
