Bill Clinton Says Hillary Tried to Join the Army
April 02, 2008 4:49 PM
A big Indiana national security endorsement today for Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.
9/11 Commission Vice chair Lee Hamilton, a former member of Congress from the Hoosier state, announced that he's backing the lanky Illinoisan.
Possibly to avoid being one-upped on Indiana national security politics, former President Bill Clinton told a crowd in Columbus, Indiana, today that his wife had tried to join the Army.
Listen to an excerpt HERE.
"I remember when we were young, right out of law school, she went down and tried to join the Army and they said 'Your eyes are so bad, nobody will take you,'" he said, after heralding her record on issues of concern to the military, such as body armor and access to health care.
I assume this is a version of the "Hillary Clinton tried to join the Marines" anecdote that then-First Lady Clinton told in 1994 that we wondered about since it's a story she never seems to have told again.
The original story was that in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 1975, Hillary walked into a local Marines recruiting office. The Marine recruiter looked at her, she recalled, and asked how old she was. Twenty-seven, she said.
"He looked at me, and in those days that was before I learned how to wear contact lenses," Sen. Clinton told a crowd of women veterans in 1994. "I had these really thick glasses on. He said, ‘How bad's your eyesight?' I said, ‘It's pretty bad.' …Finally said to me, he said, 'You're too old. You can't see. And you're a woman.…But maybe the dogs would take you.'"
("Dogs" being a reference to the Army.)
Perhaps she did so -- and hence Bill Clinton's Army story today?
Or maybe he's conflating the two stories?
(Add that Bosnian sniper fire, and you might have something there that Julia Roberts would want to option.)

Hey so nice to see so many totally round the bend US idiots commenting in here. It's no wonder you're the by far most despised people on the earth.

She didn't try. She is lying again and again. Right out of law school? She would have at least been in as a JAG officer.

I agree with Randy (posted April 4, 2008) I am a female, and retired disabled US Navy vet. HillBilly cares less about all the long duty hours, separation from family, missed birthdays of our children, marital strains, and even the ultimate sacrifices our brave men and women are giving for our country. She is a disgraceful doggish troll, who questions our intelligence, when it only shows her lack of. She's a liar and cannot not be trusted to furhter any cause that doesn't benefit her. She lied again about a preganant woman dying from lack of health care. Every day it's another one. Her rep is talking NAFTA in Columbia while she's saying how much against it she is. HillBilly is trifling, putrid, wretched, and vile. I wouldn't vote for her to replenish the toilet paper at greyhound bus stations.

I spent 10 years in the army. Got out because of bill. The clintons are an embarassment to this country. Draft dodgers & compulsive liars have no place in office to run this country.

Hey Bill, the Salvation Army does not count as military experience! You were Commander and Chief once, right?

Anyone who believes that she tried to join the army, navy or marines believes in the tooth fairy!

Hillary has shown nothing but contempt for the military her whole life. She only supports the troops when it is in her best interest.
Bill saying that Hillary wanted better armor for the troops.
Did she forget that it was BILL that starved the military for 8 years.
We went to war with the supplies HE got us.
At least Bush made an effort to correct that.

I am a combat Veteran with 16 years in the service. I am getting ready to return to Iraq soon for my third OIF/OEF deployment and my sixth deployment overall. I am disgusted by Senator Clinton's claims as they dishonor all those who have served in our military forces. If Senator Clinton is elected I will be unable to serve under her leadership as it is inconceivable that I or any other service member would, could, or should serve a Commander in Chief that does not share our Core Values. Although I have disagreed with many decisions of current and past presidents, like any good Soldier I have saluted the flag and carried out my mission with Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless-Service, Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage! That said, I am simply unwilling to serve under the leadership (if we can call it that) of a person whos character is so morally deprived.

In 1994 she claimed she tried to join the Marines. In 2008 Bill Clinton claims she tried to join the Army. Look out Hawaii, by the time she gets to you, Hillary will have tried to join the Navy. As a Viet Nam Vet, I find this whole thing laughable.

Bill and Hillary Clinton have told so many stories, for so many years, they believe that grass roots folks are dumb enough to buy into their stories of greatness. When is a lie, no longer a lie? I have it - When the lie is a "Clinton". Right now, somewhere, someone is going over Hillary Clinton's past interviews, public records, phone logs, etc. and the lies are going to flow like water. We will then be told that Hillary must have been under the stress of the Campaign Trail. What would be the motive for a U.S. Senator and Past First Lady, to lie? Why would a Clinton Lie? Da!

I don't believe a WORD out of anybody's mouth with the name Clinton. She was called the "campus Commie" back in college. Doesn't anyone remember when the Clintons had to move out of the White House and they tried to steal property in the White House? Almost $200k and they got caught and had to put it back!!! FACT!!!

DID he even try - what about his wife?
Obama will not be elected - his judgment & backgroaund are far too questionable to be President of the UNITED States.

Funny, I was drafted in 1969 with two pins in my left elbow from a childhood break. Not only was I drafted, I was sent to Nam as an Infantryman until I was wounded 9 months later and forced to retire from the military due to my wounds. If they would take me in the service, I'm sure Hillary could have enlisted IF she really wanted. I remember her husband was a draft dodger back then for failing to show. President Carter gave bill a pardon....Not to mention to draft dodgers that returned from Canada. I wouldn't trust either Clinton to run anything concerning National Security.

I think Hillary belonged to the same super-secret military team that John Kerry was part of when he went on a "secret mission" to Cambodia for President Nixon at a time when Nixon was not even in office. If you believe that whopper you also believe Hillary grabbed an M16 and swept those snipers off the runway in Bosnia so all those cute little kids could give her flowers. What next? Obama will say he tried to join the army, but they refused him because the military that produced men like Colin Powell was too racist. Demos can't even lie well.

Well, is anyone here surprised? The Clintons, lying. My vision was 20/600, and I was accepted into the Army as an M.P. And I had a heart value defect. Yes, it's true. I knew many people who were as blind as bats without their glasses or contacts, but their vision was correctable to an acceptable level and there we all were, in, what was called at that time, the most effective form of birth control, the military issued glasses. They were as ugly as sin, I'll never forget basic training in those things. But this kind of disproves her claim.
Thank God, though, that she did not get in. I am sure this was another ploy with an covert attempt to gain something for her future political career, not serve her country. She and the card-burner deserve one another, but this country does not deserve them. Save us all!
This woman will stop at nothing at this point, her tactics are well-known in most circles. This claim takes the cake though.
Not a praying person, I now pray nightly that this woman doesn't not get in office. God help us then. Mark my words.

I have a hard time believing anything either one of them say; I especially have a hard time believing anything he says. Fortunate for her, eventhough I am not supporting her right now - I would still vote for Hillary (if she gets the nom) over Bill(I wouldn't vote for Bill again though). Bill is just a bold face you know what....

Perhaps the other co-participants in the Clinton's anti-American antiwar group convinced them to join the U.S. Army as spies for the enemy. Unfortunately for Bill, he had already burned his draft card in London.

Liar like all the rest of her reder.
Tried to "join the Army"
Went to a Marine recruiter.
Dah

I joined the service in 1970, and at that time there were enlisties as old as 28 in my company at boot camp. Three of my wifes female best friends went into the service in 1971, one in the navy, two in the Air Force.
Personally, my glasses were slight thiner than coke bottles and correctable to an acceptable level that the service hod no problem letting me in.
This story is just another Clinton fantesy for Hillary supporters. I'm surprised she hasn't brought out her collection of war medal's, Navy cross, Bronze star, purple hearts and the like.
Posted by: DLW | Apr 3, 2008 2:15:33 PM
@ clinton supporters And what is her experience besides being an ex presidents wife? Obama will be a fine president he would just need to pick his cabinet and vp wisely. If the Clintons get back in they won't be any different from Bush. All of their politician friends will be rewarded with top level jobs for sticking by them. Also does their relationship with the Bush family bother anyone but me. Before she started her campaign Bill was globe trotting with Bush Sr. I see he hasn't done that in a while. Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton. In 2016 it will be Jeb's turn because he's entitled right?
Posted by: obama girl | Apr 3, 2008 2:15:25 PM
Both Bill's and Hillary's stories beg one glaring omission; we are at war at the time of the alleged enlistment attempts. The Army or the Marine Corps would have enlisted a lawyer immediately, regardless of her visual ability. She would have then went through a short officer indoctrination course, and then would have been assigned to a stateside position as a legal officer, freeing up a man who could see to go war in the jungles of Vietnam.

David made a good point at 11:21 AM
I think Hillary tried to join the Mexican Army. She seems more patriotic toward Mexico than she does the US.

bill clinton is lying.
there was NO "BODY ARMOR" in those days.
health care was NOT an issue.

"And if you believe that, you'll buy this watch"
"How can you tell a Clinton is lying? Their lips are moving!"
Apparently this lie isn't even worth conflating and defending, as Hillary 'stood by' her Bosnian BS longer then this. (No comment from her about the comment from the now 20 something 'little girl' who THOUGHT Hillary liked her poem and was at least paying attention!)
Anyway-so the former 1st Lady who wasn't named until she was 6 years old tried to 'Join the Marines' but was turned down because they preferred, and took, less qualified and accomplished recruits.
Sheesh-I realize somebody would need to be morally obtuse and intellectually inadequate to vote for Hillary but that doesn't mean she needs to campaign to them so explicitly!
Posted by: JeffsterCO | Apr 3, 2008 1:32:08 PM
Let's see, during the dreaded Vietnam War, Little Lib Hilly volunteered to serve in the Army and/or Marines? She has said that she loves combat, and her interest in serving even in Vietnam confirms that. No wonder she voted as she did to OK the administration's war lust.
Also, Obama was approximately fifteen years old when the Vietnam War ended.
Posted by: Mary Scoles | Apr 3, 2008 1:07:54 PM
Oh please, please, please, Hillary!
I joined the army in 1975. I can tell you that in the post-Vietnam era military recruiters were desperate for quality enlistees. They would have at least sent Hillary for a physical - the Marine recruiter wouldn't have just summarily dismissed her.
As for her age? Well candidates her age WERE accepted during this time. I met some.
But here's the kicker. As a college graduate, and law school grad no less, Hillary would have been ideal OCS material. It is likely both the Army and Navy (as the parent of the Corp) would have pegged her as a perfect JAG officer. In fact now that I think about it she would have been good reservist material. A lot of JAG officers were in the reserves back then.

So Hillary tried to join the Military. Yeah right.
Posted by: Joe | Apr 3, 2008 12:46:01 PM
Maybe it was the sniper fire she dodged in getting to the recruiting center in AK that prevented her from joining. Come on Hil, what else you got for us?

Those of you who doubt that learning to wear contact lenses obviously didn't have to try in the 1960s and 1970s. None of my family's very upscale doctors wanted my parents to allow me to get what were then HARD contact lenses because the docs had all tried unsuccessfully, each of them on more than one occasion. Some of them even felt contact lenses could damage the eyes.
Eventually, I was allowed and, after a lot of trying, breaking more than one lens and a good deal of frustration, I was able to wear them, but I was much younger than the docs.

I think a large part of the problem is that the main stream media let Bill get away with lying during his entire term. He was never called on it by the media, and I think both he and Hillary thinks they can still get away with it. Maybe the media either got ashamed or got fed up with it. Either way good for them for calling their hands on these lies. They should not let them keep going on. This fable is an affront to every service member past and present, and it doesn't even have a moral.

Just when you think things can't get much worse in this campaign. I think it would be best if the Dems would just quit campaigning and depend on the sense of the American people to make a decision since it seems neither Dem candidate has the sense God gave a pissant anymore. They are acting like two five year olds on the first day of kindergarten and Bill Clinton has lost all touch with realty since the campaign started getting rough. They are making the GOP very, very happy. If the Dems lose again in 2008 it will be their own fault this time, no one elses.

I note that Bill did not specifically state which army she or they tried to join. Perhaps she tried to join the NVs or perhaps the Red Chinese Army. The good news is that, if Hillary had not made this inevitable run for the presidency, Bubba may have been able to continue to live the lie! As it is, it will be much harder for the "bony-fingered one" to resume creating a fictional legacy after the ball is over.

Dan Quail’s service in the reserves was criticized, as was George W. Bush’s service in the National Guard. Democrats claim that both should have served in active duty. Bill Clinton’s card burning was overlooked, “that was a long time ago”. Now we are expected to believe that Hillary would have served if she could have. Double standard is bad enough. Lying about it is even worse. I’m no great fan of Juan McCain but if military service is a factor, he is the only veteran in the bunch. McCain tried to enlist and he can prove it.

What strikes me most about the Clinton campaign is that so much of it is based on claims that can't be substantiated by objective 3rd parties. The few that were substantiated by 3rd parties contradict what Clinton claims. That's what makes this latest announcement by her husband so suspect and in my opinion irrelevant.
Posted by: Publius | Apr 3, 2008 10:34:00 AM
Whopper alert! This is pathetic. You don't need perfect vision to join the Army. You do need to have a commitment to serve your country ahead of yourself. The Army recruiter didn't need glasses to see that Hillary was a "poser", not a recruit. Hillary is going to flop in PA. Her lead is dribbling away. She seems intent on snatching an embarassing defeat out of the jaws of a close contest. So be it...
Posted by: Sean O'Brien | Apr 3, 2008 10:33:43 AM
Seriously, I wonder what went on in her mind? What did she hope to accomplish being in the military? Did she intend to pull strings inside and get more support? Questions, questions, questions.
Posted by: Faramir | Apr 3, 2008 9:10:18 AM
Hey, wait a second! The way I heard it she actually did get into one of the services, became famous for her heroism, and they made a movie about her life in the Armed Services called "G.I. Jane". Naturally, Demi Moore was chosen to play HRC since the two look so similar? Isn't that the way it happened?
Seriously, Bill is killing HRC's presidential hopes. He really needs to be shipped off to Siberia. Every time he opens his mouth, some political gossip article shows up on Drudge or ABCNews or whatever. Can't he stump without making waves for her?

Hillary is one big LIE. She sat on the board of walmart and said nothing bad about their anti worker practices.
She helped pass nafta. In 2004 to a business group said on balance nafta has been good for america and new york.
Hillary in October on npr in new hampshire was against counting the election in michigan saying it wouldn't count and it didn't matter if she kept her name on the ballot.
What are wrong with the voters of this country?
Can't they see that Hillary Clinton is a serial liar.
Do they like being lied to. What is this a monarchy and we are all peasants.
Hillary was for the invasion of iraq. She is on tape on march 6, 2003 being for the invasion. At no time did she talk about inspections.
For years after the war Hillary was for it as she thought it would be good politically to try the thatcher role.
Hillary's whole candidacy is a lie.
35 years of experience. She had no security clearence in the white house, she didn't get daily security breifings or attend nsa meetings.
Hillary didn't even know when her campaign was going broke. Her campaign manager told her you are broke and need to loan 5 million. Hillary is aloof. She picks loyalty over competence. She isn't a manager. She never managed anything. Her balance sheet for her campaign is a nightmare.
Hillary is a serial liar. American peole must like being lied to and feeling like peasants to the great monarchy.

First she was trying to join the marines now it is the army. I thought the story was they said it was the marines and only the army would take you.
It seems like the Clintons can't keep their lies straight.
Bill Clinton in 1975 was running for attorney general at the time. Hillary and her friends were seeing if there was a biased against feminism. They had no intention of joining the military. They were feminists. They held protests against the military in college. Hillary is close friends with Gloria Steinhem who mocks the military.

I won't vote for a woman who enabled her rapist husband so they could climb the political ladder. In fact, not only did she enable him, she assisted him.
I don't care what plans her staff comes up with for solving our every problem...it will take more tax money and in the end that never works better than we can do for ourselves....IF we're willing to stand on our own two feet.
She's a crook, she's lied and cheated for years. She was fired from the Watergate committee for this and that wasn't the first and hardly the last. Anyone who votes for her is just asking for more of the same.
Personally, I think she's nuts. Any normal person would never try to pull these stunts....running through sniper fire...how insane to tell this whopper to an international audience. Something is really wrong with her.

well, while pawing over those things-
Hillary will cont' to reassure the people left to vote in the primaries about the solutions that our country needs to get healthcare for all citizens
Me and my family a looked at the affordable college plans of her's and obama'-and we hope america gets her education plan-it is great-and gonna help a lot of young people.
Obama-has copied her plans.
Hillary has a good command of the issues and she will be the one to set the economy right again.
I heard a retired general on cspan today
he was asked directly which had the better plan for getting us out of iraq.he replied without hesitation-"from what I can see-Sen. Clinton has the closest plan to what I would do"
I could go on, but go to Hillaryclinto.com-the official site and read it for yourself.
You are probally of on the very rich and well off-and whoever gets into the white house you will be fine financially but for some of us-the issues that I have mentioned here-and what the candidates plans are to solve them-do matter to me.
I do have a rational mind-and reading the topic you chose-I cannot see how those things you listed will help anyone
over the next four years.
Posted by: jgaw | Apr 3, 2008 2:03:06 AM
Maybe you could write Brooks Jackson at Factcheck.org. By the time he is done checking the facts, Senator Clinton will have joined the Marines. Which would be pretty remarkable after having worked for George McGovern.
I'm not going to pretend that I was for that war - but I do care about the people who went - kids who didn't have a chance to go to Wellesley or Yale died in that war - a lot of them before their 21st birthday. I agree with the people who said this was a worse lie than Bosnia.
Posted by: Mara | Apr 3, 2008 1:24:54 AM
jgaw,
The topic I pick is: Hillary Clinton's credibility, honesty, and trustworthiness.
She has a long and well known record of criminal behavior:
• Securities Fraud on cattle futures
• disappearing/reappearing records from the Rose Law firm
• selling national security secrets to China for personal gain
• stealing furniture and an art collection, etc. from the White House
• the largest campaign finance fraud in American history
• and much more
Why would any rational person trust such a person with the presidency?
Posted by: Sparky | Apr 3, 2008 1:17:21 AM
I find it so sad-from 10pm until now
not one of the issues that face the american people-and over the next 4years
has been discussed.
I love reading all the comments about a candidates views of how they will solve the ills of this country.
but this bile is just a downright waste of time.
pick an issues; healthcare, the economy, student loan mess, the hight price of gas-any issue, and talk about what your candidate is saying they will do to solve it.

Hillary's lying is nothing new, not by a long shot. She has been a corrupt human being for a long, long time. Any Hillary supporters have a response for the following news from today?
Dan Calabrese's new column on Hillary Clinton's past may bring the curtain down on her political future.
Calabrese interviewed Jerry Zeifman, the man who served as chief counsel to the House Judiciary Committee during the Watergate hearings, has tried to tell the story of his former staffer's behaviour for years.
Zeifman fired Hillary for unethical behaviour after she conspired to deny Richard Nixon counsel during the hearings. The now-retired general counsel and chief of staff of the House Judiciary Committee, who supervised Hillary, says her history of lies and unethical behaviour goes back further - and much deeper - than anyone realizes.
Jerry Zeifman, a lifelong Democrat, supervised the work of 27-year-old Hillary Rodham on the committee. When the investigation was over, Zeifman fired Hillary from the committee staff and refused to give her a letter of recommendation - one of only three people who earned that dubious distinction in Zeifman's 17-year career. Why?
"Because she was a liar," Zeifman said in an interview last week. "She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality." When informed that public evidence (Douglas impeachment files) showed a precedent for the right to counsel, SHE ABSCONDED WITH THE FILES TO ELIMINATE THE EVIDENCE.

Forsooth gentle fellow. Hillary has achieved great things, single handedly in many instances. Many of these Great Accomplishments, you you will never know.
The Army did recruit Hillary. Hillary went on many special ops.
We are all safer because Hillary .... and GWB made the decision to defend OUR country when they were youngsters. And we all owe the greatest debt of gratitude to these two.

For a woman whose life has ONLY been about politics and power, Hillary does some pretty stupid things. Next to Obama and McCain she looks like the amateur in this game.
After making bogus of serious events in Bosnia, a story that military folks didn't particularly appreciate, we get THIS silly story. I'm not even saying that this again is another Hillary lie, but the idea that this story would do well is so completely stupid. Military people hate her for playing games with such serious and deliberate choices in life as joining the US Army.
Didn't the Clintons learn anything from their White House years except to lay a sound foundation for making BIG money in their future lives?
No way the US Army would want this woman for President. She will not be recruited. NEVER.

Earlier today I praised Hillary for trying to join the Army to defend our country just like George W Bush did when he protected our country from invasion by air from the south when he was a youngster. Thank You President Bush.
And Apparently I have been endorsing Hillary over the past couple of days so often that I don't even remember any of these endorsements.
But GWB and HRC can team up to protect our Country we are all truly blessed.

MC,
Very interesting re: Obama really chosen back in 2004, with the Senate as only a stop-over. I think you are right that he was chosen years ago. when he came to the Senate, Daschle was out he was delivered the cream of the crop of Daschle's staff. Very nice for the young senator. I believe he was fingered even before then though. Go back to Chicago!!! Harvard Law School. I feel like I am watching a movie plot.

All Right People.
Hillary's Bosnian Adventure Tale now has some collaboration.
Some fellow named Tripletee on that Kos site now is backing he Hillary. So lay off Hillary until you read his account.
I would give you the link but it is frowned on here.

MC is a paid Hillary employee. Such people want Hillary to stay in the race for ever so that they can make a buck or two for months to come.

Clintons are notorious liars. No one can match the skills of Clintons when it comes to lying through their teeth. Not even, Republicans.
Posted by: Pete | Apr 2, 2008 10:42:54 PM
The Clintons can't keep their lies straight. She lied about trying to join the Marines and now Bill gets the lie mixed up and says it was the Army. We, Americans, know that both Clintons loathe the Military!

I have to agree with you, bsmith, that recruiters in those days -- even after Vietnam -- would not have turned her away, and certainly not that quickly. A warm body is a warm body, though in Hillabeans case, that may be pushing it!!
I like the theory that sniper fire prevented her from enlisting!
Obama 2008 -- Yes, WE CAN!!!

Yeah, same deal w/Bill Clinton, way back when -- and no one who saw it will ever forget HIS endless keynote speech at the convention, either . . .

I would certainly agree Colleen.
The same thing happened in '82, I think re Iowa and NH.
Pelosi was the Dnc chair then, and she eventually seated them unpunished.
Also, Dean front-loaded the primary season this year to favor Obama. Which is very surprising, considering that most of us had never heard of Obama except his Senate candidacy.
One would not think Dean/MoveOn were thinking ahead that far re Obama, yet they were.
I have suggested on here that people go to the book website: "Burning at the Grassroots. com". "Inside the Dean Machine" by Dana Dunnan. They selected Obama in 2004 as their candidate, US Senate was just a "stop-over.
That site has details from the book and otherwise that read like a script for Obama's campaign. Explore it.
The book was written following Dean's loss. They took that gameplan, tweaked it, got Obama and here we are. It is amazing how everything from press, to internet, to youth, to Malcolm X "traps" for Kerry, controlling caucus states, winning Black vote in SC, etc.
Spells out tactics, and explains why Dean front-loaded primary as he did.

I have read your thoughts about the DNC
and I agree-I feel confident there will be changes-if not we may see a really historic event a well established independent party-one that will give the dem and rep. a run for their money.

jgaw- I agree that Hillary would definately have an inside view from the point of the presidency, however I still think that she will have to learn on the go as well (she would have a curve as you said).
I agree that with MI and FL. I blame Dean and the DNC. After this election is over the democratic party needs to resolve some of these major issues so all sides feel that neither candidate was given a unfair advantage.
All contests should become primaries, we should not drag this process out as long. I feel it should end by the end of May. States should vote in blocks (i feel) 25% at a time, and so that each block has roughly the same number of delegates up for grabs. Although I understand the point for superdelegates I find having them being as just as much of a problem as they are meant to be a solution.

macy,
JGaw here,
the issues facing us are to important-for us to use this wonderful form of communication-to rant and rave.
lets stay on the issues.
and everyone can read my comments and see I did not write what you just atributed to me.please do not use me as an intro to your post.
I appreciate your passion.
and for the country' sake I as an african woman of 53 years will
"Keep Hope Alive"
Review the issues-I do not believe you nor I know hillary personally-so lets judge her on the issues-and the solutions she has put forth. in her claim to help the country
she said she is for affordable healthcare for all
making college affordable
getting the economy on the right track
I believe she has the right solutions for these issues and many more.
I do believe we will be better off
after four years of a Hillary presidency.

Yes. If hillary can achieve the nomination she will achieve my vote. While I do not like her all that much, I will not forfeit this chance to bring about a different course for America. Although I find her conceited and manipulative, to have four more years of this current course, could prove disasterous for future generations.
If we allow McCain to continue with this war, it will take years to end. Currently we are paying known insurgents to be Armed guards...both shiites and sunnis. Iran's involvement in the Basra incident is fishy. And when the war first started Bin Laden reportedly said, "for every dollar we spend, the U.S. spends $10,000." Bin Laden and anyone whom is loyal to him will try and keep us over there as long as they can. The beat the soviets the exact same way....by dragging out a war which destroyed their economy.
This war is draining our resources, stretching out our military, allowing Al Queada to gain a firm safehave in Pakistan, and is weakening our Dollar.... As the dollar becomes weaker the price of oil goes up, due to other countries being able to bid just as high or even higher than us for it.

I don't understand how intelligent people who check into each candidate can possibly believe anything the Clintons say. I mean there is no way the media could possible invent all the horror stories dating back to the seventies just to persecute Hillary. One or two incidents maybe but my God half of them haven't been brought back up yet but rest assured they will. This makes Hillary unelectable. I don't care how much she whines or lies, we can read and with the internet, lies get noticed! She sincerely thinks she is helping the party by stealing the race because a black is unelectable; however, no matter your color a liar and immoral person is unelectable. I will vote for an honest person over a liar, which is why I have to consider McCain over Hillary if she steals the race with bullying. I sure hope Obama is cautious because people have been known to die when associated with Hillary. The press has stayed away from that one but I was around when she should have gone to jail.

"They do not represent my idea of Democracy or the Democratic party principles that I have known for my 46 voting years."
I agree with your post. Did you know that the RNC sanctioned the same 2 states, MI and FL, for moving their primary dates up -- cutting the delegations by half.
This is the same penalty specified in DNC rules, but the committee, upped the penalty the furthest that it could legally ---100%. A very severe sanction, wouldn't you agree?
Posted by: colleen | Apr 2, 2008 9:16:37 PM
gm from mn-but the matter was not resolved before-and if we keep going over that-we will have to stay with the punish them solution.
The matter was not resolved before-it is still front and center and needs to be dealt with.
now mind you I do not blame obama or hillary
I lay where we are at now with the fl and mich issue-right at Howard Dean and the dnc door. I think as in any organization-when a mistake is made of this magnitude-the buck stops somewhere and heads need to roll
I think in this case Howard Dean should be one of those to go. there maybe others-but right now he has the bounty of being the face of the DNC.

Posted by: jgaw,
What difference does it make. If the situation were reversed, would there not be calls even DEMANDS that Obama step down? So, why is she so special?
Why is there always an excuse for everything Hillary? Oh, the boys are picking on her,; Oh they are trying to bully her; Oh he is out spending her; Oh she is being attacked; Oh....oh...oh....oh....oh;
I am sick to death of this double standard. When he takes hard punches or the media bites his a** people say tough! People say he needs to "BULK up"...be a man they say.....But, when the situation is reversed, it is poor Hillary this and that - a thousand excuses. Well, why can't she bulk up and why can't she step aside.
Lord knows, if the situation were reversed, Bill Clinton wouldn't be saying "chill out" - ole red faced bas****...And many of you wouldn't be encouraging him to stay in the race as you are HER.
Well, Hillary is not special and she is NOT owed the nomination, I don't care what she or ANY of you think....Why don't you people spare us the double talk and double standards.
Jessie has a message for you people:
"keep hope alive"
