Clinton Campaign Debt Watch, Part II

April 09, 2008 10:05 AM

You may recall when we took a look at Sen. Hillary Clinton's $8.7 million in campaign debts she reported (see "Debt Be Not Proud," March 31).

One of those debts comes from a visit by former President Bill Clinton to a school in California -- the University of California in Davis.

The local CBS station reports that the school "is ready to take the Clinton presidential campaign to a collection agency if they do not pay back the thousands of dollars they are still owed" if the bill is not paid within the month.

"Ready on Day One! (Debt collectors, come see me the middle of next month, please.)"

Just an observation, But I think its funny how barack didn't want this to be about race and Hillary didn't want it to be about gender. Look at the democrats now. Im indpendent but I do support Obama but if Hillary wins she has my vote cause Mcain doesn't have any vison for the country. Now you guys can tear each other apart all you want but I hope Hillary supporters don't cry sexisum then vote for Mccain because he is almost opposite of Hillary. You guys need to judge your values a little better and not be so bitter. Thats goes for both sides of this primary. PEACE LOVE NO WAR! Unite!

Actually, what sunk Kerry were the swiftboat ads. Bush had nothing to do with it.

By the way, I love Bush...inspite of everything that has gone bad with the economy and the war...I cheered for him and refuse to place ALL the blame on him.

Why haven't seen any article about Obama’s performance in the Iraq hearing? Guess he is not doing well. Just read the raw data about the hearing (can’t help laughting).

MI and FL will go republican if they are not seated, as is.

They know who doesnt want their votes to count.

They dont need to be told anything by the Obama campaign, the Clinton campaign or Howard Dean.

They know. If Obama wins the nomination by not counting 8% of the voters he cannot win a general election.

Democrats either want to win the white house or they don't.

MI and FL need to be counted.

If Howard Dean discounts the rules set in place prior to the start of this race, then every state will try to jump the gun.

Haven't you heard....MI and FL have already set their primary dates for the next election. Their primary is to start November 5, 2008, for the 2012 primary season.
The latest news has Ohio and New York attempting to push their primary dates up to November 4, 2008.

The 5 new ads Clinton is running in Pennsylvania are not going to help her bottom line and if she wins there she'll have even less to campaign in the 9 remaining states.

Posted by: Cindy | Apr 9, 2008 1:10:30 PM

How is it Obama's fault if the delegates from Fla and Mi do not get counted. These states had 18 months to get their act together, called Dean's bluff and lost. BOTH CANDIDATES agreed not to campaign those states and shady Hillary stuck her nose in there and did it anyway. Even with Obama taking his name off the Mi ballot. He has never said do not count the votes let's find a fair way is what he said. Lets keep the facts in context and by the Obama is gaining on Clinton in Pa.

Both Hillary Rodham and John McCain have managed to run their campaings into debt.

Obama's campaign is soaring! He has managed his finances smartly!

Who would you trust with our economy?

Obama '08

Did you guys check out how tired and run-down Hillary looked yesterday in the hearings?

I get the feeling that is how she'll look when she picks up the phone at 3:00 AM! NOT VERY REASSURING!

"UC Davis is planning to put its final bill out this week,
the key word is Final.
I done billing in a Dr. office we would send out 2 regular bills Then on the 3 month we would place a sticker on it and the sticker read FINAL please pay the potion above. If it has been paid please disregard

Her campaign is the firs thing Hillary has ever managed in her life...and she managed to run it into debt!

Hillary, we can't afford a "train on the job" candidate in this economy!

Posted by: stacy | Apr 9, 2008 12:48:47 PM

Hillary has run a disasterous campaign!

If she can't even manage her campaign's budget, how is she going to manage the Country's budget?

You can tell alot about what kind of Candidate they are based on how they run their campaign.

OH FACTS - WHERE ARE YOU HIDING ... NOT AT ABC! -- FROM CBS -- "UC Davis is planning to put its final bill out this week, and if the debt has not been settled within a month, they are going to turn the matter over to a collection agency. "

So for a mid-Jan event, the final bill is going out - as per their own process - this week, and the campaign has until May 12 to pay it. This is not unpaid debt - it's a bill that's coming due.

By that standard, everyone here has unpaid debt which will be sent to the collections agency --- (unless you've paid your credit cards/mortgages/phone/etc into next month!!)

SB
He is not behind yet
BUT HILLARY IS

Posted by: Lauren | Apr 9, 2008 12:36:45 PM

sure s.b. just keep saying its Obama's fault and the working class will believe you. They might even vote for hillary. lol
And I believe you're wrong....if Obama was behind at this point, everyone would be telling him to fold so they could unite behind hillary. People have already been calling for him to fold, even though he's in the lead. So how's that for fairness?!

S, the clintons took in $109 million since leaving office in 2001. But I betcha that $109 million wasn't on your back, correcto??

And the amount given to 'charity' was to their own clinton charity....how 'bout THAT for charity!

First lady Michelle Obama.

Think about it.

Posted by: S | Apr 9, 2008 12:35:17 PM

Here is something to ponder. Do they wealthy remember what it is truly like to struggle with bill paying...Even if they were poor in the past? Some have said in the beginning it reminds them but as time goes by the memory fades.
they collect higher debts they buy more expensive toy or what they would call luxuriousness, boats, villas, $1000.00 toilets private jets. Do they really understand people have to juggle money around just to pay bills? GOD help them when there car breaks down there goes an unexpected expense.

He went to these places because that is where his mother was at the time. He had student loans for his tuition, working to improve your community means not only was he working but he was making much less than he could've if he worked in corporate america

S.B, Hillary herself said the election in Michigan didn't count for anything.

Hillary in New Hampshire in October on NPR said this election in Michigan isn't going to count for anything.

She didn't change her tune until she needed them after their flawed elections.

Michigan and Florida were the only states where the GOP had a higher turnout.

Voters in Michigan stayed home or voted in the GOP primary.

Now Hillary is saying those voters independents who chose to vote in a meaningful primary in michigan now can't vote in the new dem primary.

The cheif clinton surrogate making this argument is harold ickes who himself helped make the rules saying Michigan shouldn't count.

The Clinton supporters in michigan originally moved it up so it would be so early the one with the name recognition would win. They also wanted it during winter break where the youth turnout would be reduced.

Moving Michigan up hurt Obama in New Hampshire.

In New Hampshire 9 of the 10 campuses were closed. You not only had the students away but you had all the support staff and professors away too.

Hillary would have lost New Hampshire if those campuses had been in session.
