Clinton Plays the Bin Laden Card

April 21, 2008 5:46 PM

I've been on the road all day, so I haven't seen Sen. Hillary Clinton's new TV ad until just now.

It features, to my knowledge, the first image of Osama bin Laden to be used in a TV ad this political season.

The image comes alongside other historical images presidents have had to deal with -- headlines about the Stock Market Crash of 1929 and the Cold War, images of Pearl Harbor and soldiers and Katrina, Nikita Khrushchev and Fidel Castro...and OBL.

Previous Republican TV ads featuring bin Laden have met with condemnation from Democrats. In 2006 and in 2002.

What do you think? Above board or fear-mongering?

Ah, how soon we forget. Of course, Jake probably forgot this unforgettable clip with bin Laden because Giuliani dropped out of the race shortly afterwards. Clinton should keep that in mind.

Rudy Giuliani TV Ad - "Ready"
(ABC flags Y**Tube and its links as spam so go to Y**Tube and search for rudy tv ready)
"...and Osama bin Laden still making threats. In a world where the next crisis is a moment away, America needs a leader who's ready."

Really Doug? How so? Are you going to be a rehash of Zdnet here?

Cite the specific date, time and place where either candidate said they would unilaterally bomb Iran. You can't.

Jo -- Okay, that is the response winner of the night! Funny! That part is true at least!

I'm for McCain and I've loathed the Clintons for years. And yet I never thought anything could make the Clintons look good to me.

But Barack, his anti american pals, AND his rabid bully supporters have made even the Clintons look like decent, America-loving people.

Wow.

This is exactly why we need Obama. Cowboy Bush has led this country with domination and arrogance and bully tactics. We need change. We have lost all respect with the rest of the world. I believe Obama can change that.

Doug says:

"Hillary Clinton is turning herself into Karl Rove's top student"

You mean, a winner?

Posted by: Jo | Apr 21, 2008 8:37:05 PM

"Hillary Clinton is turning herself into Karl Rove's top student."

Yes, right behind Mr. Obama himself.

Posted by: highly capable women | Apr 21, 2008 8:35:12 PM

The only reason Obama doesn't need a Karl Rove is because he has the backing of the mainstream media.

It's amazing how you can portray yourself as "above it all" when the media or moveon.org does your dirty work for you.

highly capable woman-

The difference between what Obama did or didn't do is that it didn't affect our allies and it didn't betray the american people.

Hillary funding the PLO (terrorist organizations) hosting hamas leader at the White House affects our entire nation!

I don't get you people who are willing to overlook this woman's lack of character! what's the matter with you guys?

Posted by: stacy | Apr 21, 2008 8:19:41 PM

obama
no u can't
untested
not ready and unable

due to:
bitter americans clinging to guns & religion
wright's god damn america,
the HAMAS bulletin in church, tony rezco, all the other lies, anti-american wants to meet with iranian terrorist leader who threatened isreal and us with nuclear destruction....

the republican dirty tricks machine will turn him into soup meat if he wins the dem nomination...

a vote for obama is a vote for mccain

As usual, Hillary is the candidate with vision - and as usual, Obama is one step behind.

Rise, Hillary, Rise!'08

Confused in Pennsylvania

You're not confused. You're just too embedded in your self-pity and bitterness to understand complex topics. Like Immigration.

Posted by: S | Apr 21, 2008 8:02:42 PM

Zdnet -- Your quotes are taken out of some context to spin them as unilateral statements. Do you think we are all that stupid? Again, cite the specific quote, day and place that any statements were made that said we would UNILATERALLY bomb ANY nation.

You can't because they were never said.

You are right...ignorance is bliss and you're its poster child.

Posted by: highly capable women | Apr 21, 2008 7:59:20 PM

Yeah Stacy, and Barack Obama sat in the pews listening to the Farrakhan-loving, America-hating Rev. Wright. He obviously agrees with this man's views since he has continuously donated to this man's church year after year. It is this very judgment that you want to step into the most powerful position in the world?

Disgusting.

Where is your outrage over that or is your real name Keith Olbermann?

Obama is unelectable in the general election.

Clinton/Edwards 2008!!!

If Clinton doesn't win, I will vote for McCain and i'm not the only one thinkin like this. Can't support a USA Pres. Candidate who can sit through a sermon where his "pastor" condems the USA ,the same Country he wants to be President of. Tight race, it comes down to basic beliefs. God bless America! Vet. Ssgt USAF. Father of Three

Clinton will soon be edged out of the race by left-wing fanatics. Unfortunately, she will align with Obama and encourage her supporters to fall in line. Most will.

So, what's the use of all this bickering?

Posted by: S | Apr 21, 2008 7:52:15 PM

dwc-

Hillary funded terrorists as Director of The New World Foundation!

why aren't you in an uproar about that?

I mean really, how do you support a woman with a corrupted character

Posted by: stacy | Apr 21, 2008 7:47:54 PM

People must get scared very easily if this type of ad "scares" them. Obama's campaign is the one using the Karl Rove playbook, and deflection is one of his favorite plays. You would have to go through life with your head completely in the sand to not realize we live with these kind of threats and uncertainties every day. Better to think ahead now and elect a President who will be able to deal with crisis when they happen, and not have to gather all of his advisers and ask what he should do. What scares me is electing a wishy washy President who has no idea what he is doing and is even afraid to hold a press conference in fear of getting a hard question. A lot of people have voted in these primaries who did not give due consideration to legitimate concerns such as brought up in this ad.

dem process is toast,

I wouldn't trust donna brazile.

Posted by: magda | Apr 21, 2008 7:42:03 PM

Hillary needs to explain why she funded terrorist as Director of the New World Foundation.

The Republicans are ready for her!

To me that makes her the most anti-american candidate!
