Clinton Surrogate Bob Johnson Says Ferraro Was Right, Obama Only Is Where He Is Because He's Black
April 15, 2008 12:06 AM
Billionaire Bob Johnson, the founder of BET, last seen publicly raising Sen. Barack Obama's youthful drug use, then denying it, then apologizing for it, has stepped into the spotlight again.
In an interview with the Charlotte Observer, Johnson says that former vice presidential nominee Geraldine Ferraro was right.
If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position," she said, just before the resulting firestorm forced her to step down as an adviser to Obama rival Hillary Clinton.
"What I believe Geraldine Ferraro meant (is) if you take a freshman senator from Illinois called 'Jerry Smith' and he says I'm going to run for president, would he start off with 90 percent of the black vote? And the answer is, probably not. Would he also start out with the excitement of starting out as something completely different? Probably not. He would just be a freshmen senator ...
"Geraldine Ferraro said it right. The problem is Geraldine Ferraro is white. This campaign has such a hair trigger on anything racial. It is almost impossible for anybody to say anything."

Bob Johnson has done more harm to the black community with his acceptance of buffonery and mysogynistic behavior on BET that he need not dare act as a voice of cultural reasoning for anyone. He fired Tavis Smiley for stirring the waters a bit too much. He failed to mention women voting for hillary because she is a woman. Blacks voting for her because she is a clinton. Hillary would be nowhere wihtout her name . She rode that to a senate seat. And a presidential nomination.
Hypocrites

Obama, talented? No. He used arcane political laws to knock 5 others out of the race to become a state senator. There he voted present 130 times, more then any other senator, and even on some oh his own bills. He was the only senator who voted to allow sex shops to operate within 500 feet of elementary schools, the only one to allow violent sexual offenders to get time off for good behaviour, yet will not talk about these, or any other votes, but had no problems attacking Hillary's or Edward's. He became an accidental U.S. Senator, when the incumbent suffered a messy divorce scandal in August of the election year. The republicans then bought in Alan Keyes to run. He then said he would in no means be ready to run for president in 2008. When Bill Clinton said that Jesse Jackson did win South Carolina, and there was nothing historic in Obama's win, how was that racist? Obama is getting the elitist, liberal white vote, 90% of the black vote, and while it might get him the nomination, his extreme liberal views, his budget breaking proposals, his one time call for a complete ban on guns, will ensure he will lose in November by over 100 electoral votes.

And we're supposed to take anything a Clinton supporter says that's being reported by another Clinton supporter about Clintons Dem. competition seriously? Yeah right!

Hillary Clinton was leading Barack Obama in all polls--I was a Hillary person--until her dear husband opened his mouth and and injected race into the campaign in South Carolina.

-----------
Where did the Clintons interject Race into the campaign? The MLK/LBJ comments?
The Jesse Jackson comments? All true statements base in fact not race. Obama was the one that interjected race into the campaign. Remember, Toni Morrison was the one who called Bill, "the first black President".
Funny how the "first black President" and his wife have been morphed in to the racists Obama and the media have portrayed them.
Shame.

So the African American media mogul Bob Johnson thinks Ferraro was right: that the only reason Obama is on his way to the nomination is because he's black, in other words, affirmative action?
How pitifully uninformed. Even I, a middle aged white man, know that the biggest recipient of benefit from affirmative action always has been and continues to be white women.
So if that ridiculous remark applies to Obama, it must apply "in spades" to the white woman in the race, who shall go nameless lest he who speaks it turn to stone. What utter filth.

The media knew that in splitting the democrats, i.e, turning the AA population against the Clintons (by mischaracterizing everything they say), no demcorat will win and that gives way to a repuplican whitehouse and wow, that's where we are heading because of them and a majority of hateful Obama supporters posting on here. So thank you.

You see what I mean about the insulting?
Maybe they are not voting for Hillary because they dont think she is the best person to be president?
Why is independent thought so damned surprising?
Posted by: Alex | Apr 16, 2008 4:55:16 AM
Can you all please stop insulting the intelligence of black voters.
Hillary started out this campaign with a majority of the black vote, it was hers to lose.
So 1, Obama didnt have the black vote from jump. 2 the black vote was Hillary's to lose and she did.
3, what makes black voters any less informed or their choices any less important than other voters?
Think about that before you let a republican hack, Bob Johnson, twist your thinking.
Surprising enough black people like all other people can and do think for themselves.

Looks like Bob Johnson is struggling to find the most effective way to hurt Barack Obama.

Over 90% of Black Americans voted for White guy with no senate experience.
His name, Bill Clinton.

rob,
the difference with bho getting the black vote and hillary the women is that BHO HAS 90% OF THE BLACK VOTE AND HILLARY ABOUT 50-60%.

Of course obama would not be anywhere near where he is if he wasn't black. Everyone knows this, but the black people in this country won't admit his only qualification is the color of his skin.
He has done more to divide this country right now than bush ever did. obama in maybe 8 years might make a very good candidate, right now he is not ready.
A lot of democrats are disgusted with the campaign he has run. And that because of this McCain is going to win the election. It seems that every single time the Democrats have a change to win something they shoot them selves in the butt and spew that crap all over the place...just wait and see when McCain wins.
Remember most of the states that voted for obama are mostly republican. And after you count their votes, the Democratic votes won't be enough to over come them. And 2/3 of the country including Democrats won't vote for obama. That's the problem and the Democrats are going to loose again and it is not fair.

Bob Johnson and BET has done more to destroy the black community than the guns our black youths are using to kill each other. For the entire people, Black, White, Asian, or Hispanic, vote how ever you see fit. For me personally and my house, the Clintons in the Whitehouse for 1 week will destroy this country. I often referred to Bill Clinton during his tenure as "My President" because the average white in my office was disgusted with the shameful things that occurred during his administration. I now understand their sentiments.
I do not know what Senator Obama will do for this country, but I will give him my vote. Him being black is the last reason why I will vote for him, but his message that politics in Washington is destroying our country.
I would challenge Bob Johnson, and say if Obama were White, Hillary Clinton would be back in the Senate. Clinton will destroy this country, as her campaign has been destroyed.
Everybody, take a chill pill and vote for whomever you chose, and celebrate with me when Barack Obama, will be sworn in as President of the US. This I know will happen. Do not worry, Barak will not destroy the country, I did not destroy my neighborhood when I moved in. I promise you, it will be okay.
Good Night and God Bless my next President.

jgaw-Of course the media does not want to discuss this issue. I guess it would be bringing to the forefront the numerous and many obstacle and deficit black people face in this country. It would prove that racism is alive and well no matter how you much it is ignore and swept under the rug. The thing is black people have been consistently exploited by black politicians. This is how sad the representation in my neck of the woods is. For twenty-three years one of our black state rep. was re-elected. He only sponsored and pass three bills, all related to one unfunded Holiday. Two years ago, he was defeated because of his inept platform. The person who won the election managed to sponsor three bills during the past two years but could not control is conduct. To make a long story short our lazy non-effective politician ran and was re-elected. Of course another black politician stay in office for twenty-five years without any real results. For years he was unopposed on the ballot. He was finally defeated but only after he betrayed his constituents by voting with the Republicans against the welfare of the people who put him in office. Currently he is a lobbyist for the Rep. This is the same way that Obama has handle his political career exploiting the people who entrust him with their welfare. Just another exploiter and then want to send the black people to the back of the bus. Let the white people sit up front.

For the record--this "what if he was white or black" nonsense is an absolutely ridiculous line of argument.
Being "black" is more than just skin color--there are social and cultural aspects to race which are impossible to quantify or "cull out". How can you possibly separate out someone's "blackness" or "whiteness" from who they are.
The whole idea is repulsive, like performing some kind of strange dissection of someone's identity for scientific purposes. I hope this is the last I hear of this insipid garbage.
Thank you.

Mr Johnson would not be where he is if he was not black. Funding from BET came from minority grants, grants not accesible to the people that lack color. We all know what BET has done to improve the imge of black people. Give me a break.

Well I bite into this back and forth. What the hell is the difference of black voters supporting obama and women voters supporting clinton? We have female superdelegates who said they are supporting Clinton cause its an opportunity to put a female in the white house. You have old female republicans who are switching sides to vote for clinton, cause its a chance to put a woman in the white house. HOW IS THIS ANY DIFFERENT?!! People will vote for who they want. Just one owns a market dosent justify. If obama had 14 million black people and that was all he had voting for him, fine, you can talk. But pretty damn sure there are not that many black people in Wyoming.

... Before Obama..... did you hate Johnson?
....Before Obama......did you hate Bill Clinton?
....If 88% of the Afro -Americans vote for Obama, should 88% of all the other colors of citizenry vote for Clinton?
... Is this not the most uniquely ridiculous display of racism yet?
Sort of like Michelle's saying, during a recent photo opp, "we need another white face over here".
....Did you know that your beloved Barry was the ONLY candidate who could not make time for ceremonies memorializing Martin Luther King... either on the anniversary of his birth, or on the date of his assassination because he was too busy campaigning?
....Do you know how well he treated the Afro-Americans in his district? The ones who froze in Rezko's tenement while Obama pocketed the gas money?
....Do you not feel comfortable in the the company of people like Louis Farrakhan, Rezko, Reverend Meeks and Pastor Wright? Have you ever read the writings of Farrakhan? Can you picture the group of them in the oval office setting the protocol for CHANGE?
....Do you really think that Obama has the best healthcare and economic plans for our beleagured country?
....Did you really not enjoy life during the prosperity of BIll Clinton's Presidency?
....Be careful who you vote for.
....Be very very careful!

0853,
you said it right-I have been trying to tell people this all along.
but they have been just like sheep.
on michael baisden' show-he runs hillary down. with the viles things
they do not even try to reason things out.
just saying stuff that makes no sense.
but you are right the real shame is
no one will pick up this story
and because of what is happening I do not even look at obama any more-
the other thing is-if any black people stop and listen to him closely they will see right through him
and it is just no accounting what the white folks see in him. I am not impressed-because I know we have better.

The black people that voted in the same precinct that I voted in were voting for Obama because he is black. No one is making a secret of that. For the most part there are a large number of black voters who heard their was a black candidate running for president name Obama and they vote for him. If they were asked to identify three additional thing Obama not including race and gender the majority could not name three things. For the most part since a whole lot of black people spend their time trying to get to minimum wage jobs riding public transportation the don't have time to keep up with what happening on the political circuit. Obama "hope" resonates with them/us however ill protrayed it may be given by the candidate. What Bob Johnson did not say is that Obama's expect the black vote as if it is his right even though he know that he only be able to throw crumbs in our direction because he will owe so many rich white people for their support. So once again we end up with "Reagans Trickle Down Effect". A vote for Obama by a poor black person is irresponsible and a betrayal to our children.

DAVID H., you reason that since there are collectively more white and women democrats to vote for Clinton in the general election than there are African Americans to vote for Obama, then Obama could never win. That fact, you suggest, should be reason enough to back Hillary. What you overlook in your analysis is that without the AA vote, NO Democrat can win. There are not enough whites or women in the Democratic party to make up for the loss of this (lately dismissable) voting bloc in a match against republicans.
