Democratic Congressional Candidate: Obama? Obama Who?
April 30, 2008 10:07 AM
In North Mississippi, Democratic congressional candidate Travis Childers has been hammered by Republicans for ties to Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, in THIS AD from the National Republican Congressional Committee and THIS AD from Childers' opponent -- "When Obama's pastor cursed America blaming us for 9/11 Childers said nothing," the ad says.
Now Childers is pushing back -- by acting as if he's never even heard of Obama.
In a new TV ad launching today, Childers says his family "has heard the lies and attacks linking me to politicians I don't know and have never even met," the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports.
And Memphis's WREG-TV has an interesting report in which Childers distances himself quite a bit from Mr. Obama. Watch HERE.
"Senator Obama hasn't endorsed my candidacy," Childers says. "I have not been in contact with his campaign nor has he been in contact with mine."
Obama's campaign has tried to help Childers, as you can see on Obama's website.

Obama- Zero Experience Matters
Harvard Lawyer?
No.
He never argued a single case in a court of law.
Constitutional Law Professor?
Not according to the U of Chicago.
Obama was a Lecturer who never wrote a single article. Lecturers normally write articles too, but not Obama.
Illinois Legislator?
Not so much. He only passed legislation one year....and it was all written by other people. Again, he took credit for other people's hard work and moved on.
Senator?
Where's the beef? He was in the Senate one year before he started running for President.
Obama's never done anything, for any community. His preacher was a black leader and Obama tossed him out of his train once he was done using him.
Obama has no experience and no character. His church is not what he described and he just threw his own minister out like yesterday's garbage.
We are at war, and in the middle of a financial crisis. We need leadership not a pumped up resume, a lot of hot gas, and a treacherous ability to toss out his own chosen horrible associates.

Obama would have you rip 2 stars from our beautiful American flag.
Obama won't even count active duty military from Florida or Michigan.
How can a guy who wants the country to salute a 48 star flag and throws his pretty crazy preacher to the dogs expect us to respect him?
God Bless our 50 United States of America.
He should have stood by his preacher too. He sat in those pews, gave that man $22,000, copied his sermon for his best selling book, used him for his 2006 speech at the DNC, and signed an oath to his value system.
He had that preacher marry him and baptise his kids.
Reverend Wright was a mess......but he was Obama's mess for 20 years.
Stand by your mess. I don't know if it's worse that he's so disloyal or that he chose such a church to begin with.
Either way. His character defaults are worse than Reverend Wright's by far....stand by Your Man Obama.

What's worse, the guy who would have a preacher like Louis Farrakhan? Or a guy who would dispose of that preacher after using him for 20 years? Don't vote for either guy.
Obama went on and on about his minister forever. He copycated his sermon for one of his books and said I'm a Christian and you can tell from my church.
Now the minister turns out to have a strange belief system with a lot of terrible things to say about almost everybody.
What's worse....a guy who would turn traitor on his own minister of 20 years. A guy who he was calling his "uncle" and his "mentor" one week and then totally disowns him the next?
Obama tossed his crazy uncle out of the train after he got done using him.
If Obama could make someone feel bad for Reverend Farrakhan, there is something really traitorous and wrong about Obama.

I find it funny that none of the local politicians on the Dem/lib side and none of the Dem/lib Senators/congressman want to be associated with neither Obama or Clinton.
remember when the campaigning began, the Dem/libs stated they were afraid of Clinton winning the nomination for the libs because it would hurt them!
Pretty bad that the Dems/Lib politicians do not like their own front runners! So why should we!!

rs,
Edward Said wasn't a PLO leader. He was a professor of literature. Are the attacks on Obama really going to remain this stupid?

This is silly -- the Mississippi 1st is a heavily conservative district that went for G.W. Bush in '04 by 30 points. Of course Travis Childers is distancing himself from Sen. Obama. He would be distancing himself from ANY national Democratic figure (save maybe someone like fmr. La. Sen. John Breaux or Miss. Rep. Gene Taylor -- hardly liberal boogeymen).

They said Bill Clinton couldn't be elected. They said the same thing about JFK. If Clinton is the nominee there will be an army of freelance Hillary-haters waiting to step up to the plate to do the grunt work. She's had almost no negative press coverage recently because the GOP knows she's unlikely to be the nominee. Don't be deluded into thinking she's somehow immune from attack.

Childers? Obama? Ooh! Ooh! I LOVE playing Six Degrees of Separation!!! Those Republicans always play the best Party games! Can we do Charades next? Please? Please? I want Bush to dress up in that flight jacket again. And Karaoke - we HAVE to do Karaoke! Everyone wants to see McCain do that "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb bomb Iran" thing again. Then Pin the Tail on the Donkey. This is such a FUN Party! Do we get cake and ice cream and balloons too?

We all know Obama made critical errors. But, he did not:
- sponsor unregulated trade deals(NAFTA)
-- massive unemployment
- authorize war in Iraq
-- 4000 brave soldiers died
and on on ...
He instead, oppose NAFTA and Iraq war.
OBAMA is the true patriot.
HRC CAN NOT BE TRUSTED.

sounds like childers is smarter than a lot of politicians. he knows the sure way to lose an election is to be associated with obama.
if dean, pelosi, and the rest of the crooked "leaders" of the dem party don't figure this out and make obama withdraw, we'll not only have a republican white house but also a republican house and a republican senate.
there are only two good things about that - obama would be finished forever and pelosi would lose her speakership.

Axelrod and Kerry and Pelosi, you mean?
The tender candidate looked and sounded SEDATED yesterday. Hopefully he disappears.

The RNC has purchased half-million dollars worth of negative ads so far. They are going to swift-boating democratic candidates all over the country, the ads feature Wright and Obama. We may lose the presidency and both houses because of Obama.

If Obama doesn't run for President, he still will have relationship with Rev.Wright.

Q: why few Clinton attack ads?
A: why spend money when it's not needed?
OBAMA is the current leader and easy target - Although the tactic is not a good one & easily tossed aside.
I'd suggest a cleaner fight at this point - since mudslinging really doesn't do much good - especially when it doesn't have much to go on.
We really need to get focused on why we need to vote for someone not why not to vote for someone. The issues please - that are affecting most, if not all of us - Democrat and Republican and Independent [aka the rest of us not in the first two].
We need to look for what people bring to the table to help us - not this extra fluff. How one chooses to worship / or not - and who they're getting the message from - and what someone they know did during the candidate's childhood isn't important today - people change.
Lets move forward, not stay mired in the mud - lets look at the proposed changes and how we might play a role in helping to bring them about. The changes that need to be made are not all going to come from government. Many need to be changed from the people - taking an active role - pushing for those changes - in insurance, in work, in what we purchase.
Push Walmart and others not to buy from China and third world countries - don't shop there - get others to do the same - or only but american goods they do sell. write to walmart and get them to change their buying habits. The same goes for Target and other places you may buy things from.
If you have problems with oil - become a shareholder and buy gas from only one vendor. Organize / Join forces with others to do the same. Make your voices heard. (When they make profits, you'll at least get some of it back in dividends.)
All talk and no action - is part if what got us here. Complaining with no action is a waste of time and energy. Talk is cheap, action speaks louder than words.
A revolution is at hand - it can be peaceful - and orderly. Many have taken the first step toward being heard - register and vote. There are many other ways [non-destructive means] to get things done - make a change.
Change is also usually painful for most things. It usually comes at a price. What are you willing to do to make change happen? What are you willing to give up to make things happen that you feel need to change?
As a past Democratic President said, while campaigning for president ...
Don't ask what the country can do for you .... ask what you can do to improve the conditions you have problems with?

Obama just denounced his pastor and he think they will not have the same relationship anymore.
He said he did not him as person like this..blahh..blah,,blah..
Just keep the video tape he talked yesterday .Once he becomes the President of US his pastor will be at the WH every single day and even has his own room at the WH.

at least, Melissa, some people are OPEN to change..... like HILLARY CLINTON!
It's called "GROWING" and Hillary has.... into a wonderfully strong, bright, knowledgeable, woman who can think on her toes and speak without benefit of teleprompter.
I value these traits and I will vote for her because of them. But before coming to this conclusion, I gave my choices a lot of consideration.... so that I am SURE that, for me, Hillary is definitely the RIGHT CHOICE!!!!!

Melissa -
1. Are you the same person you were a few years ago? Most people do change over time, depending on what they have to deal with/witness. It's convenient for you to say HRC's changes are an act, but I'd rather believe that people (especially those going through the kind of crucible HRC did) do change.
2. Promises / proposals are defined according to a set of conditions. If the conditions change, the outcome will of course change. Holding jobs/Buffalo against HRC ignores the impact of funding/priorities in a Republican administration/Congress, ignores domestic and global economic conditions, and ignores reality. It's not as if she put her programs in place and they didn't accomplish the goals; she couldn't put them all in place because of circumstances beyond her control.
3. A one-sided perspective on health care reform is particularly galling. HRC made mistakes (which she's acknowledged) but republicans/lobbyists also spent fair amount of time and money lining up in fierce opposition. Blame HRC if you want, but also blame everyone else involved who put their interests above the "general welfare". At least she made an effort, put up a fight, and -when it didn't work - worked on smaller but related objectives and kept plugging away at the issue.

Imagine, the US nation is being led towards the abyss by a bungling bush; and the focus is on the HARMLESS RHETORIC of an old Black man?
All because of America's racist obsession!
All any intelligent mind has to ask is, "How really harmful can mere rhetoric of Right be to ANY American?" Who is bruised?
It's not like Mr Right is making threats of harm against the nation or against individual Americans?
911 demonstrates to the world that Americans will lull itself to sleep with non-issues when real threat to the nation arises.
Americans will be fast asleep, lights out, "when the bridegroom cometh"

The risk associated with Mr. Bummer
is simply too high.
