Obama Responds to Clinton's "Who Has What It Takes?" Ad
April 21, 2008 5:17 PM
The campaign of Sen. Barack Obama has responded to the 'toughness' ad Sen. Hillary Clinton launched today.
Keep in mind these ads are really more for the media than they are for voters -- it takes much longer than a day to have an impact with a TV ad.
"Who has what it takes to really bring change?" the Obama response ad asks. "To finally take on the special interests - not take their money. Who made the right judgment about opposing the war and had the courage and character to speak honestly about it. And who in times of challenge will unite us - not use fear and calculation to divide us."
Obama himself then says, "We are one people. All of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes. All of us defending the United States of America."
(Pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes? Huh.)
Watch it HERE.

Most people need to educate themselves before posting on thes blogs. There are hardly any facts here. It's important to read the articles not just the headlines. Especially the ones on ABC. Turn off the TV and step away. Grab a book or newspaper. Do some real research and you may be surprised at what you find.

McCain's privileged upbringing? That would depend on how you define the word privilege?
Let's see....Being a military brat and then himself, McCain going into military, being shot down, a POW, mentally broke down and ashamed....
And gee....there are two sons of McCain in the military now.
Yep, I would say America and my fellow brothers and sisters are privileged, indeed, to have a presidential candidate who comes from a military family of making the highest sacrifice a person can make for or to their human being.
All the people that want to trash talk McCain, ask yourself, just What have you done for your country or your fellow man?
What have you done to improve this world or make the lives of others better.
What sacrifices have you made?
Opinions and words are cheap...actions count.

Did anyone here watch Adams on HBO?
Those were great men....and women. Too bad the sorry excuses for the Democrat nomination don't have a shred of their integrity. Obama at least seems like he's loyal to someone or something, I'm just not sure who or what. Hillary is loyal to herself and Bill - as for the rest of us, we can serve her interests or, in her words, "screw em". Can you imagine Adams or Jefferson saying that?

Oh please Tapper: "(Pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes? Huh.)"
This is from his 2004 speech, well before you and the media stirred a non-issue about patriotism into the mix. Perhaps you and the media should take a look at the patriotism in Obama's past to create a balanced story.
Obama's life story defines what this country is about in a way that McCain's privileged upbringing cannot.

Obama has proven He can't take pressure.
He has proven he will not defend or protect America. Evident by his policy removing our defenses. spending less on defense and removing our nuclear capabilities.
So Hopefully His talk of changing the Constitution will be halted by the oath of office. The best of ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution. So I hope he knows and will be expected to live up to that.
But he is so cocky and thinks he is above things, that he scares me.
His Lack of Honor and integrity lying on his family and best friends. So calmly, like it was part personality to simply lie outright, and feel no remorse, even when catch on them, brushed them off as nothing.
He has proven his has not Honor or integrity, how easily he was able to lie on his family and best friends. To millions. Was he to dumb to know it was seen and be known he was lying. He had no remorse and just fluffed it off. C'mon your own family and friends.
His sexist remarks with the kitchen sink.
His Gutter politics with flipping hillary off, then snickering about it.
Patriotic Americans get upset with someone damning their country and he calls you racists for it. Get Real!
He sells the small town people out to his new San Fransisco friends, they get a laugh and he gets money.
He lied to the blacks in his Selma speech.
He pretty much is a scam artist and has taken many.
Not my Kind of Presidential material.
I love America
I want my country to be around for my Great Grandchildren and theirs.
I want them to be able to live with the freedoms I so enjoyed and cherish. I want them to have a country they can be proud of and love, and not ashamed to show it, like me.
I have my Flag out. I have yellow bows on my porch in support of the troops. I am Proud to show I am an American, support my government. I wish everyone was.

Wow!!!! Sharon you just described George Bush’s Presidential legacy and the majority of Conservative Republicans. Now please put down whatever it is you are drinking or smoking and use that brain that God gave you. He gave all of us one, but it is up to us to use it. You must be one of those illogical, frail emotionally thinking Hillary supporters who just can't accept the fact that Obama WILL BE the democratic nominee and would be willing to vote to have another 4 more years of Bush/McCain.

People are struggling out there to put food on the table, some have lost their jobs or cant even afford to pay for gas. Yet barack h obama is raking in millions and millions of dollars. Where is most of this money coming from? And with all this huge amount of cash, why isnt he the nominee? Why is he unable to deliver the knock-out punch? The answer is easy. He just doesnt have what it takes. ITS HILLARY ALL THE WAY, BABY! ALL THE WAY TO THE WHITE HOUSE!!

SJ,
Lastnight ABC released his campaign donation mostly comes from big contributions from CA and other states not from internet donors like Hillary.
No surprise he got all those big money.
Imagine one time fundraiser can collect about $3 millions.
but because he is been outspent all along the campaign he almost spent all the money even owe some vendors money.
Imagine if he did not get those big nonation, he'd be lost long time ago.

Do you really think the same old politics are going to work? If we keep going the way we're going we'll end up going the way of the Roman Empire after they stretched too thin and lived outside their means. We need to change course for the better and change it now. The current generation in power is recklessly greedy and unwilling to face the consequences of their extravagant ways. Instead they pass it down to their children and children's children so they don't have to deal with it. McCain is of this mindset. Either Democrat (they're really not all that different policy wise) would make a great president. Obama has the ability to inspire and instill hope and we need that more than ever now.

It's not just money.
I walked a precinct in West Oakland for Barack Obama. Two straight days of knuckle rapping on doors till it hurt.
We won CA-09 4 delegates to 2 by winning the last two out of every 100 voters and getting them to the polls.
It that kind of volunteer activism by patriotic, committed Americans that will keep this close in Pennsylvania.
Obama has energetic Democratic activists in full force.

countallthevotes - What you say is true. There is no denying these things that are facts. Just another reason I will write Ron Paul's name on the ballot in the general election. He continues to be one of the very few to vote based on principal, not on what is convenient. I could explain the multitude of other reasons why you all should vote for Paul, but I know that it will fall on deaf ears especially with these Hillary nuts.

What is happening in this country is what most Americans that allow the media such as ABC and FoX deny them of. Our standing in the world is diminishing. Our children could hardly compete in a global economy especially when we are now ranked 17th in education. Our young men are dying in Iraq with an ever changing reason for war ( Now proxy for Iran).

1,356,000 people donated to Obama campaign that may be so, but there is no way in proving that is there?
That is what Obama camp is saying, you really don't expect them to say otherwise do you? I still feel its a lot of money being shown, and my gut feeling is some one is not telling the entire story with where that money is coming from.

1. Obama made the right decision on Iraq?? why has he then consistently voted to fun the war? Then why did he tell the Christian Science Monitor in 2004:
On July 28th, 2004, the day after his speech at the Democratic convention catapulted him into the national spotlight, Barack Obama told a group of reporters in Boston that the United States had an "absolute obligation" to remain in Iraq long enough to make it a success.
"The failure of the Iraqi state would be a disaster," he said at a lunch sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor, according to an audiotape of the session. "It would dishonor the 900-plus men and women who have already died. . . . It would be a betrayal of the promise that we made to the Iraqi people, and it would be hugely destabilizing from a national security perspective."
2. Obama says he is not beholden to special interests?? March 7th, 2008 -- Obama say he doesn't take money from DC lobbyists and special interest PACS. This is the type of double-talk "politics of the past" rhetoric Obama rails against.
While his claim is technically true, what he does do is take money from state lobbyists and other big money contributors who have substantial lobbyist machines in DC, like law firms and corporations.
In April 2007, the LA Times quoted the Campaign Finance Institute’s Stephen Weissman as pointing out that the distinction Obama makes on lobbyist money is meaningless: "He gets an asterisk that says he is trying to be different. … But overall, the same wealthy interests are funding his campaign as are funding other candidates, whether or not they are lobbyists."
The Capital Eye reported that "[a]ccording to the Center for Responsive Politics, 14 of Obama’s top 20 contributors employed lobbyists this year, spending a total of $16.2 million to influence the federal government in the first six months of 2007."
Obama’s no stranger to being influenced by those campaign donations, either.
3. Obama is the great unifier?? At no time in my life's history can I recall a more divided Democratic party. Pundits and pary leaders have all expressed fear that the Party will not be able to unify in the GE.
4. Pledging allegiance to the flag - all one people?? Wright, "God damn America!" Ayres and Dohrn:
Forget the Democrats, they say. “The Democratic Party supported the war in Vietnam …” Dohrn began. Ayers cut in: “Led the war in Vietnam.”
“And they’ve been supporting, and leading this war,” Dohrn continued. “I don’t look to the Democratic Party. I don’t have hope for the Democratic Party. I think the Democratic Party is bankrupt. And I think the only answer is for us to build an independent, radical movement, and, I mean, the big ‘us.’ “
Nice candidate!! Nice friends!!

pro-palestinian or pro-Israel? How about an honest broker that sees the horrors of suicide bombings and the horrors of continual settlement building and demarcation of Palestinian land. All sides are guilty. Obama is not wrong to feel for the Palestinians. To quote Ron Paul from the debates, "We give more 3 times as much aid to the Arab states than we do to Israel". Doesn't this mean that the current administration sides with the Arab cause? I am a believer that with those 300 nukes Israel can take care of itself, but I also believe that the Palestinians have and continue to be treated like dirt. Obama should have empathy for the Palestinians as he should for the fear that the Israelis have in their lives.

I have no idea where Obama's money is coming from I just don't feel its the small man the figures are too high.
I don't feel the average individual are dumb with their cash, you not going to see a campaign has 50 mil to spend and leave your daily house hold budget to give more.
Something just does not seem right to me, he is spending close to 2mil a day and he still has money to spend, nope something is starting to look very fishy there, anyway that is just my opinion.

That's all this guy ever does is respond; does he even have any original thoughts? Even his little brush off the other day was copied from Clinton's Rocky speech -- which he mocked. Oops, what that him having a beer in Scranton? Hilary has a beer and he mocks her. That's all he does is mock and say the same old things over and over: he says he wants to talk about issues but he never does have any plans other than naive overgeneral one. He's like the beauty pageant contestant who wants world peace. Yeah, and ....?

SJ - Didn't Obama already admit to taking PAC money. We all know Hillary has sold her soul to these special interests groups. I must admit that I admire the small donations that have trickled in to Obama's camp. This reminds me of the way the Paul campaign was funded, and it is the way it should be done.
Posted by: Ben Straub | Apr 21, 2008 5:56:19 PM
Honestly I do feel all this money that Obama says is coming in to his camp is now starting to raise my eyebrows.
My gut feeling is something is not right in those figures or where this money is coming from, I really don't believe that the man in the street is going to be consistently throwing their hard earns dollars after Obama like that.
A donation here and there but these figures that his camp is calling is making me believe that money is coming from somewhere else.

sally - What? Obama spoke out against the war, and Ron Paul actually put the ink to the paper against intervention. As far as I have read, Hillary was for the intervention that has left us in a mountain of debt, ruined our already trashed credibilty in the region, and has killed many Iraqis and soldiers. To me this is not a strength, and many of the soldiers coming back would agree.

Hillary is right to challenge Obama! Quite frankly I know quite a few people that could be running the country better than it is now. Even George has governor experience. Hillary's strength against McCain and Obama is the war issue. At least Hillary will be more apprehensive in jumping in another mess overseas.

Do the math. The same person claiming that half of Obama's contributions are for over $1,000 must be the same person that is claiming that Hillary is close to winning. $1,000 times 500,000 (1/2 of one million) is $500 million dollars. Sorry, you count as bad as Hillary does. Sometimes the facts just hurt.

This race has become disgusting. I am starting to see who hillary and bill really are and how low they can go to get what they want. Obama is true to his ideas, friends and even to those to whom it is not politically correct to be friends of. He is a true soldier for America!!

Rise above this petty chattering from inept candidates. Vote for real change. Vote Nader.

Appealing to undecided voters patriotism. Pretty smart move for with Pennsylvania voting tomorrow and North Carolina voting next week.
These states proudly founded the United States of America.
America we have to become United again. When Washington voted for the Iraq War, they failed to do their job.

I'm flat-out sick of this election. I hope Hillary drops out if she doesn't win by more than 15%. I mean, how else will she catch him. She down by almost 30% in NC and trailing by 5% in Indiana.

"To finally take on the special interests - not take their money. Who made the right judgment about opposing the war and had the courage and character to speak honestly about it. And who in times of challenge will unite us - not use fear and calculation to divide us."

Unfortunately,
Obama took money from similar special interests, lobbyists......
Obama has been dishonest about this long time pal, uncle pastor, etc..
Obama has been divided Dems party.....

Obozo takes the low road and abandons his principles of unity. He's just as adept at wallowing in the mud as anybody.
