The Weather Underground - Ayres and Dohrn, Rosenberg and Evans
April 17, 2008 8:12 PM
Lotta talk, stemming from last night's debate, about the Weather Underground. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, is friendly with a former member. Sen. Hillary Clinton's husband commuted the jail sentences of two former members.
Does it matter? Is it a stupid and tangential issue?
And who were they?
It starts with the Days or Rage.
"In October 1969 hundreds of young people, clad in football helmets and wielding lead pipes, marched through an upscale Chicago shopping district, pummeling parked cars and smashing shop windows in their path," says the promo for a recent documentary about the group. "This was the first demonstration of the Weather Underground's "Days of Rage." Outraged by the Vietnam War and racism in America, the organization waged a low-level war against the U.S. government through much of the 1970s, bombing the Capitol building, breaking Timothy Leary out of prison, and evading one of the largest FBI manhunts in history."
It appears that the documentary has been put on Youtube, where in piecemeal fashion you can watch Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, and Part 9.
**
What's the Clinton connection?
One former member of the Weather Underground, Linda Sue Evans, was in 1985 sentenced to five years in prison carrying a gun and for harboring a fugitive -- Marilyn Buck, who drove the getaway car during the Black Liberation Army's notorious Brink's armored car robbery in Nanuet, NY, where a Brink's guard and two police officers were killed. Evans was then tried for previous crimes. She got five years for conspiring to bomb the U.S. Capitol in 1983, since she had helped forge IDs for others involving in the bombing. She also was sentenced to 30 years on gun charges -- for using false identification to buy three rifles, a pistol, and ammo.
Evans served 16 years, but in January 2001 her sentence was commuted by then-President Bill Clinton.
Another former member, Susan Rosenberg was in 1984 caught in possession of 740 pounds of dynamite intended for use in terrorist attacks. She was sentenced to 58 years in prison. Rosenberg was also allegedly involved in the Brink's robbery.
In 2001, then-President Bill Clinton commuted her sentence, freeing her, in an action widely covered at the time as a pardon.
Asked today if Sen. Clinton thought it was wrong for her husband to free Evans and Rosenberg, a Clinton campaign spokesman refused to answer the question.
"The difference here is that Bill Ayers hosted an event for Senator Obama at his home when he was running for state senator," Clinton campaign spokesman Phil Singer said. "I can tell you that neither Linda Evans or Susan Rosenberg hosted an event for her, and I think that's why the question becomes relevant."
Singer added that, "Bill Ayers is unrepentant of what he did…and that is a difference, of course, between Linda Evans and Susan Rosenberg."
But when Evans was released after Bill Clinton pardoned her, she told the Austin American-Statesman, "I'm not repentant. That's for sure. I wouldn't go about it the same (violent) way." But "we still need solutions, and we still need justice just as badly as we ever did."
**
Ayres, whose relationship with Obama we've discussed before, is a Distinguished Professor of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and founder of both the Small Schools Workshop and the Center for Youth and Society, which is how Sen. Barack Obama knows him.
But before he and his wife Bernardine Dohrn -- also a former member of the Weather Underground -- became what the Obama campaign refers to as (quoting Alexander Cockburn) as "respectable fixtures in mainstream liberal Chicago years ago" -- they were leaders of the militant group.
They went underground after a 1970 town house explosion in Manhattan killed three of the group's own members, after which they were indicted for crossing state lines to incite a riot -- the Days of Rage -- as well as for ''conspiracy to bomb police stations and government buildings," including the Capitol, the Pentagon, and New York City Police Headquarters. Those charges were dropped because of illegal surveillance and other examples of prosecutorial misconduct.
While Ayers and Dohrn were hiding from law enforcement, the Weather Underground participated in the bombings of the US Capital, the Pentagon and a State Department building. In 1981 Ayers and Dohrn turned themselves in to federal authorities, but all charges were dropped as a result of alleged "government legal misconduct."
In 1980, Ayres and Dohrn surrendered and pleaded guilty to possession of explosives. Ayres didn't serve any time; Dohrn did seven months in prison for refusing to cooperate with a grand jury investigation into the Brinks robbery. They married during a prison furlough.
**
So Obama asked the question last night -- which is worse, using this "guilt by association" technique, his being on a board with Ayres and having been to his house for.a key political meeting? Or Bill Clinton commuting Evans' and Rosenberg's sentences? Or is it all equally disturbing? Or equally irrelevant?
Power to the people.
- jpt
UPDATE: This post has been corrected to reflect the fact that Rosenberg was not pardoned, her sentence was commuted, despite how the media covered it at the time.

My buck stops with the Weather Underground. Everything else can be rationalized or equivocated...smoothed or readdressed.
But hanging out personally or professionally with former domestic terrorists whose actions have literally killed and terrorized people is completely unacceptable. Ayers hasn't renounced his previous behavior, he's said that he didn't do enough. And this is DEBATABLE?
Meanwhile Obama will lick his finger and stick it to the wind and wait to see what the real fallout is. And if it's major, he'll denounce Ayers like he did Wright and the koolaid drinkers will all nod like bobbleheaded dolls and say 'see, it's alright now..nothing to worry about'.
Bullfeathers. Elections are always filled with massive quantities of bovine excrement but this particular load of crap is a serious concern. This is not the sort of 'advisor', 'friend' or 'supporter' that I can get behind.
This is a huge problem and it's not going to go away.

Amy,
=When Hillary went on the attack for Obama's association with Ayers, Obama countered with the fact that her husband pardoned a couple of people from the same organization.=
So the logic here is that its not OK to pardon radical terrorists, but it is OK to be friends with one??
Do I have that right?

Hey "Reaganfan,"
During the Pennsylvania debate When Hillary went on the attack for Obama's association with Ayers, Obama countered with the fact that her husband pardoned a couple of people from the same organization. ABC news just simply ignored his counterattack. Typical for that evening, I think.

Alot of people have WW11 ties with family members who served. Hitler's dispectable acts & attitude have not yet faded away in history. I doubt that a person with so many anti-American assocciations, could not have similar feelings to this day. I have my doubts that Obama represents the Democratic Party values. He doesn't have the same walk as Democratics. His Quack also falls short. It seems prudent to vote for Hillary. If Obama runs in the fall, most democrates will most likely support McCain, and suffer in more failed Bush policies, than to knowingly vote for a person that we know so little about & most of it not good. Not good enough to be the Leader of the United States of America. Hillary would make a far better President, we know where she stands, no bad side effects.

More Hypocracy from the Clintons!
So Bill Clinton pardoned two memebers
of the Weather Underground before he left office!
Isn't that the group that Ayers belonged
to? Why didn't Stephanopoulus
bring this up in the debate?
He must have known about it since he
was part of the Clinton Administration!
This is not only proof that the Clintons
are hypocrites it proves that George
was "in the tank" for Hillary during the
debate and he should be Fired!

I want to thank ABC for the debate even though some commentators and Mr. Obama have complained. He looked quite sheepish and awkward trying to dismiss pertinent questions.
We have had 20 odd debates and the policy issues have been hammered to death already. In any event, this primary election was never based on policy issues. It seemed based on personality, likability, judgment and "trust and honesty". So the questions that were posed to both were extremely important.
It boggles my mind how Mr. Obama can dismiss every problematic connection as "guilt-by-association". All the connections were prolonged, deliberate, chosen, and in some cases, intense. And several of connections are also reflective of Mr. Obama's radical (not inspiring) nature. By flip-flopping and misleading on his connections, he has certainly unveiled, at least partially, his lower self.
This is the heart and soul of the election. But at this late stage only few will see what this man is all about. He and his surrogates seem to display a sense of entitlement to the Presidency (did he not accuse his opponent of the same? I guess he took this personal). Only "racists" will not vote for him, they claim.
Perhaps, he can gloat with his nomination. Even a possible win in the general election may await him. But he will be more a divider than a "uniter". Time will tell.

Ak - The debate was viewed by almost the entire country, from high school students, to my 95 year old mother as the worst debate in televised history. It was a travesty.
Most of it will be quickly forgotten - except for the fact that is brought back "guilt by association" and "red-baiting, the highlights of the McCarthy witch hunts. It's not only going to hurt Obama - who will whether the storm - it's going to hurt every American who works to find solutions to divisive issues, from inner city crime, to education, to peace in the Middle East.

Great debate ABC!! Of coarse, the only one's that didn't like it were the Obama supporters, that's expected. I was really getting bored with the one sided debates. Finally, a debate that moveon.org didn't own!
ABC...You've got a new fan!

If America is going to start guilt by association, I'd like to know where it begins and ends. Freeman Dyson, a brilliant physicist, who helped save Britain from Nazi air attacks and did genius-level work in quantum physics, has been accused by the American Enterprise Institute of being a communist. He sits on the Board of Sponsors of the American Bulletin of Atomic Scientists. Should the entire board quit? Are we going to implicate them? He's been invited to Davos. Should every influential leader on the planet, including Bill Clinton and Bill Gates, refuse to attend Davos because someone said Dyson was a communist? Charles Muscatine, is the father of one of Hillary Clinton's closest aides - Lissa Muscatine, who was her speechwriter, and helped work on her autobiography. Charles Muscatine was fired from Berkeley because he refused to sign that atrocious witch-hunting McCarthy loyalty oath. He sued and won his position back. Should Muscatine be fired from the campaign because her father was accused of being a communist?
HIllary could have answered the debate question in an honest, and honorable way - she could have said "this type of character assasination ends here." refused to re-ignite this sort of witch hunt and called it for what it was. But she did not. She tried to make political points off of it. Which shows again, the Clintons have absolutely no conscience.
Bill Ayers is not running for President. Obama is. If the press wants to start another McCarthy era - guilt by association - if they are that lacking in any moral compass, or any true patriotism, they better get ready. Because it's going to start hitting very, very close to home.
There are endless arguments that these attacks are fair game because the far right will bring them up. The far right will bring up anything. Witness the hapless attempt to link Woods with terrorists. A branch of far right kept a list called "Jews in the Clinton Administration." Is that the next question? Obama? Would you hire a jew?

I think that what really upsets people about the Ayers/Obama connection is that immediately following the 911 attacks against America, Ayers was quoted as saying "I wish WE'D done more" - Rightly or wrongly, people have tied the attacks on 911 and this guy's anti-american sentiment together.
As a politician, Obama would have been expected to know about these statements. It's another issue reflecting lack of judgement.
Will his supporters care, will most Democrats be turned off? - not likely. But if Democrats care about winning in November, we should care.

I am tired of hearing how Obama's private life has nothing to do with the issues. If association with radicals in multi-form has no merit; then let me associate for the less aware. Social Security--I am about to collect and it isn't enough to live in the gheto on and I have paid into it all my working life---so much for socialized retirement. Socialized Education and the teachers pension fund is what Rezko is playing corruption with and helping Obama jump start his political career--so much for my desire to want socialized medicine----I can't afford it thank you very much. The gangsters and politicians are living too high on helping the poor and needy.

1. Whoever is trying to associate the Woods Fund with Arab extremists is delusional. I have the 990s from the Woods Fund. They give to Chicago community action and arts groups. They do not support global terrorism, and whoever runs this site should be ashamed for accepting such ridiculous claims. They are completely apolitical - on a national or international level. I am mystified why the network censors any link to an outside source, but allows outright lies to propagate.
2. I don't like Ayers, and I detest his wife, but Bill Daley, interviewed by another news source, said today Daley said Ayers "worked with me in shaping our now nationally renowned school reform program." "I don't condone what he did 40 years ago, but I remember that period well," the mayor said. "It was a difficult time, but those days are long over. I believe we have too many challenges in Chicago and our country to keep re-fighting 40-year-old battles." As a point of reference, Daley also defends his father, so I don't think you could label him a wild-eyed radical.
3. Ayers is rich. His dad was CEO of Con Ed and he went to an exclusive prepe school. Rich people are on foundation boards because they are rich and know other rich people. It's not complicated.

Thanks Jake. Keep digging. It's outrageous for Hillary to keep slamming Obama for a tangential relationship with Ayres 40 years after his crimes, which happened, by the way, when Obama was EIGHT YEARS OLD.
There's a big difference between that and Bill Clinton freeing two convicted terrorists, one of whom was caught with 740 POUNDS of dynamite. For Hillary to keep harping on this issue is chutzpah of the highest order.

I think you're wrong about Ayers and Dohrn pleading guilty to possession of explosives, Jake. According to my research the government botched their case against the two. Dohrn plead out to battery and bail-jumping, got probation, and later served jail time for contempt of court. Ayers didn't plead to anything - his case was thrown out. Since suppressed evidence can be used against people outside of a criminal case, I don't think the government could have had much of a case against the two on any of the big charges or Dohrn would not have been admitted to the bar and neither would have been able to be hired as professors. Ayers is a professor at the University of Chicago, which is a government job.
If you want to play this game, what about our mayor out here in Oakland, California,Ron Dellums, who has endorsed Hillary Clinton? He's a former Black Panther -- before he became a Congrossman, that is, and got the local Federal courthouse named after him with the help of none other than Bill Clinton.

ABC, I am eternally grateful. I have seen how MSM has failed to run certain articles, or have buried them far from the front pages, or have only reported a fraction of a story or a piece of a quote, etc. if it was in any way, shape or form showing Obama in a less than favorable light. Most people don't know the half of the negative TRUE things about Obama because MSM refuses to publish them. KUDOS to ABC for trying to open our eyes!

This is not a black American over white American punishment. This is not a what is the lesser of two evils morality blunder. What needs to be seen from all candidates, future politicians, former, and present is that the past cannot be rewritten. What is done is done. Acknowledgement and acceptence through thought and decision made to redeem or protect former decisions is what should be seen. Truth of the past is written in stone, because we cannot do anything about it the American people can realize that we are not the red white and blue crusaders of truth, and we make many mistakes. As people lets put hubris aside and tell the truth and explain then move on. Enlightenment is key.

Bottom line, Dems, Obama has a lot of connections to shady people. The "I know you are but what am I" defense of digging up some pardons from Bill's term doesn't cut the mustard. It's clear these people, while no pollyannas, were not at the same level as William Ayers. And as Clinton rightly pointed out, Ayers did hold fundraisers and raise money for BO. That's the part that stings and it's impossible to refute. If you democrats don't think the republicans will plaster this, along with Rev Wright's greatest hits on every 527 ad from here until November...I've got some Ocean Front property in Arizona I'd like to sell ya! Think about it. Be rational.

The Republicans want to combat Hillary Clinton, so 'brat boy' Hannity gave George the script for the attack on Obama. It's so obvious that no real issues were discussed on this debate. How many millions of dollars was wasted on this farce for bizarre news?
Why has no one reviewed a full version of a Rev Wright's sermon and made a critique of it? Who edited together this montage of clips so it appears that this was one complete sermon given by Rev Wright? Who presented this scandal piece? Why does white America treats all Americans like they were sheep and they know what we should be told to believe? GWB administration raised the terrorist threat levels to manipulate the fears a few years ago. Why is that not criminal?
Is white America afraid that The Million Man March was some radical move to undermine national security? Why are white men afraid to tell the truth when they are wrong?
Why are black men and women interrogated/profiled to the extreme just to perform in the same capacity of lesser performing white men and women?
When will America return to acting like responsible adults with a moral and ethical conscience? America needs to get rid of the spoiled brats that are running this country? There is a bull in the china shop and no one is acting as a responsible adult in handling the matter. We are paralyzed to allow this acting up in whatever manner. Where are the checks and balances for this Administration and its control of the media?

Obama truly has his work cut out for him. Hilary, George S. & Charlie G. poured it on as thick as they could. I'm surporised, although I shouldn't be that they "still don't get it". The world is changing and there-by-association the usual games of "polotics" is struglling to keep up the status-quo. People are in fact living with living or no hope for their present and future employement oppotunites, lots or frustration and worry over keeping their homes, and the ever-soaring price of gas, just to name a few. But you folks expressly took cheap shots at Obama during what you termed a "debate". SHAME, SHAME SHAMe!!! But hold up a moment......perhaps in the long run you've done Barack a tremendous favor. The more people see the lies continue to pour out of Hilary's mouth, the more attractive Obama becomes as someone of character. So I guess, on the one hand I should say THANK YOU Hilary. And Charlie Gibson and George S. please explain why you never raised the issue of NAFTA which is still a major concern to many Americans and why Mark Penn is still a "vigarous member of Hilary's campaign? The public or the portion of those who want change and some truth from our elected officials might wnat to protest the "so-called-debate" and not watch Charlie Gibson's evening new show or George S. Sunday morning talk show. I sure don't plan to watch either.

Here's my theory - CHARACTER does not matter to the Obama/Clinton kool-aid drinkers. But then again, why should we be surprised after Bill's fiasco in the Oval Office?????? This is the first time these two have been asked serious questions regarding their lying (Hillary) and the company they keep (Obama)!! Great job to both commentators!! And to those of you who don't think it matters who Obama associates with, for national security clearances, these ARE the issues that are carefully considered!!
Posted by: tl | Apr 18, 2008 8:33:44 AM
You people who are backing this debate that just happened...
oh yeah I want the candidate that backs this debate when choosing a President... forget food prices, gas, protectionist cowboy diplomacy (and the situation it has put us in), the environment, taxes, divisive politics that destroy any chance of a healthcare bill being passed...
lets talk about scandal
lets rehash through several news cycles friends of friends
...but only scandals and "friends" that don't have to do with the long history or the Clintons and the tsunami of scandals that will be coming if Clinton was suddenly against an opponent that didn't put the party and the above mentioned issues ahead of their own win.
Lets talk about issues that have never been raised or "vetted" during this campaign... you know all those "vetted" issues with the Clintons...you remmeber the ones that are never addressed in any debate or public forum... because if Clinton were to get the nomination those issues that you all have now said those should be the focus of a debate...suddenly will be brought back in and bring the democratic party to it's knees.
If you think that this debate was important as it laid... then if you got your candidate... I would be worried about where this country is heading... ... you now say that those are the issues that a debate should be prioritizing...what do you think will happen if Hillary and the republiicans start having debates. She can't turn away from those scandals during the debates and say...we need to focus on healthcare...we need to focus on the war...we need to focus on the planet...when you all have been arguing for this type of debate being the right type of debate.
but all that matters is that your candidate win. Just dumb.
Posted by: dl | Apr 18, 2008 8:28:57 AM
Charlie Gibson gave us the FIRST adult and intelligent examination of the candidate's personal ghosts. The fawning general media has chosen to overlook the critical elements of each person who would like to be given authority to command the "red button" of nuclear protection. Even George sounded like he is growing up. GOOD WORK.

i want to know on who behalf was the pardon and commuted was done for? wouldn't it be funny if William Ayres contacted Billy and asked him to pardon and commute them?
or even better yet if it was Hillary who was contacted ,and it was Hillary who pushed through he pardon

HoosierSue: You are so right about Obama. I am glad that George opened up the eyes of the public because a lot of us didn't know he knew the underground dogs that they are and going to their house. People cannot blame Hillary for anything that Bill Clinton did by commuting their sentence but I don't think Hillary would have done that. When the president is in charge the wife has no say so. There probably is more dirt on Obama that hasn't come out yet but it will and if elected the people will be kicking themselves in the butt. He is the worst candidate that ran for president of this country. And this generation of fools are voting for him. He is desperate to win PA and I hope the people wake up before its too late. Howard Dean wants Obama to win because he endorsed him and that's why he's after the superdelegates to vote now. The primaries are not over yet so he just has to wait.

This issue is bad for BOTH of them...and more for Clinton...but it is not what we should be discussing in this kind of detail crap...when we have two candidates who want to continue "cowboy diplomacy" and we are going down the tubes.
Posted by: dl | Apr 18, 2008 6:39:13 AM
of course people care that people dies but these are people that numerous people in all sides of the political debate have been involved with for the past few years...
and Sean Hannity (the pinnacle of the idea in today's day "How the he** did this guy...sorry, destructive 5th grade angry moron, truly... get to have a national microphone ...
and those of course who need an issue to push for their candidate and would rather focus on this rather than who wants to put American military bases all over the world and imperialize our military ...hello "umbrella" woman.
Why is this still not being discussed and debated... that the woman who is stirring this up says she wants a military agreement with numberous countries that agree to go under our protection if they don't pursue nuclear energy and it's potential military hints... against anything Iran does to them in a form of attack...hello we are not the worlds policeman ...that is how we got attacked in the first place...
WHY are wenot screaming about this... the buzz is so high about this stupid stuff that no one is listening to what she said at the debate. Do people realize what that idea brings financially, reactionary from the world...from the people who are starving in places that are harboring questions whether to join the terrorists?
This issue is a distraction...and I am starting to get angry now that people are like"IIII heard about this 4 months ago why werten't we talking about it then?" stop! we need to talk about the issues...not continue this stupid oold politics.

Can you pledge to do the same if Obama wins?? If you cant then you are not a real democrat and you help re-elect George w. Bush.

What ideas are they exchanging? Perhaps along the lines of when they worked through the Woods Fund to funnel money to the PLO through Khalidi?
Yeah. Those are great ideas.

I've known about William Ayers for at least 4 months now. Why has it taken so long for his name to come up in the mainstream media? Because they have been protecting Obama. Obama has many such troubling relationships throughout his life, starting with his Muslim schooling in Indonesia.
Obama links himself to a personal history and American icons that are meant to salve the populus mentality: Kansas, single mother, underprivileged grandparents, JFK, MLK, Lincoln, Bobby Kennedy. The truth is far from these Norman Rockwell platitudes.
Hillary isn't feeding the Republicans fuel. They already know all about Obama and are licking their chops, waiting to spring and attack, and finish him once and for all. The Democrats are fools if they nominate this man.

The debate was the worst. Nothing but light questions. What about FISA, the constitution, Iraq war, Budget, Vet aid, McCain against the new GI bill, health care, economy, housing, etc.?

ABC did a fantastic job on the debates. Obama needs to stop WHINING like a baby and get the truth out. For the first time MSM did the right thing. Shame on GE/NBC/MSNBC to criticize ABC. Keep boycotting GE products and see how their shares keep falling. Hillary supporters do shop and will make GE hurt for their boorish biased behaviour putting a undeserving guy on a pedestal. See how big he falls now... Keep going Hillary 08

Didn't see the debate but apparently George and Charlie didn't ask Barry if he was comfortable or needed another pillow. To all the Obamniacs who are after the scalps of George and Charlie, it looks like serious trouble for your wonderboy whether you're willing to admit it or not. A person who sat under Rev. Wright's tirades and exposed his children to that kind of environment, has a wife who's never been proud of her country in her adult life until Obama started running for president, who has a continuing relationship with an unrepentant member of the Weather Underground, simply doesn't have the judgment necessary for the highest office in the land. Obama is not only "not ready for primetime", he's never going to be ready with all the radical bagage he's managed to accumulate over the years.

I tell you all the 2 main truths you will see in the months to come
1) There will be MORE swift boating , more Obama gaffes, more 'vetting' . The media love in is just about over.
2) It will not matter if there is a full video of Senator Obama clubbing baby seals on the head to death - the Obama freaks on these bloggs will STILL try to SPIN IT and defend the guy.

Why is it mo one at ABC News asks about McCain’s Campaign Manager getting caught in the bathroom paying to perform oral sex on a police officer? Questions can include, "How close was McCain to this man?" "Does he support this kind of activity between private individuals?"
Or how about reporting on the fact McCain is not releasing his or his wife's tax records. Questions can start like this, "John McCain, you have not released yours and your wife's tax records, are you tying to hide corruption from the American public?"
Why is that not part of your line of questioning ABC news when it comes to John McCain?

Yes, finally someone has asked "the great Barack" a question about things that bother many of us. How dare any of you question George of Charlie on the way they handled the debate? All of you probably cheered when Hillary was piled on during many of the debates and called her a cry baby when she complained. But every time anyone dares question Barack about anything, he calls foul or racism. Stop acting like lambs being led to the slaughter house. Barack has associated with many shady characters and we voters have a right to know. And, if any of you had half a brain, you'd be just a little concerned about him. Ya he gives great speeches but when it comes to thinking on his feet without a scripted answer in front of him, he has difficulty. All I ask any voter is to check out his record and learn what he stands for before you judge those that dare to ask him difficult questions.

Notice the vitriol and the less than subtle racism from some of the people who post here.
The conservatives appear to be a bit hysterical. I would be too, if Obama were my opponent and if all I had was John McCain and his support of Bush's policies.
You can understand their slander against Obama. That's all they have left. They can't win on the economy. They can't win on health care. They can't win on Iraq.
But how does anyone explain the completely incompetent performance on the part of Charlie and George? They were both an embarrassment.

The point is that moderators are supposed to pretend to be impartial and that no one should be the target of an ambush. The small minds that focus on the gaffe and the inuendo are the people that have allowed Washington to focus on wedge issues and avoid doing the hard work on the important things.

The whining, crying market is cornered by Obama supporters. He can't get his foot out of his mouth and he befriends terrorists. Wow is he gonna' be hard to beat!

Wow! Some people on here claim they have been watching ABC News for 20-25-50 years and NOW - since their darling StammerObama - got 'outed', got made a fool of becasue HE WAS NOT 'ARTFUL' in his answers, they (these Obama loving ABC News career watchers) are NOT going to watch ABC News ever again! Their attitudes sound a whole lot like their idol - StammerObama's attitude: "I'm not going to have a debate ever again with that mean Hillary!" boo-hoo
My, my - I really don't think ABC will care. And, besides, we all make stupid remarks and change our minds later...

Guess which folks these terrorists associate with? I suppose by the Obama logic below, this state is illegitimate.
In 1944, after the assassination of Lord Moyne, (the British Minister of State for the Middle East), by members of the Stern Gang, the Haganah worked with the British to kidnap, interrogate, and in some cases, deport Irgun members. This action was called The Saison, or hunting season, and was directed against the Irgun and not the Stern Gang possibly due to the perceived political threat the Irgun presented to David Ben Gurion's position of leadership. Future Jerusalem mayor Teddy Kollek was later revealed to be the official most responsible, under the code name Scorpion, for turning Irgun activists over to the British authorities. Many Jewish youth, who had joined the Haganah in order to defend the Jewish people, were greatly demoralized by operations against their own people.

thank you abc. last night for our class assignment my professor allowed us to watch the debate together and discussion followed. very favorable reviews. most agreed that hillary sounded informed at all levels, while obama sounded confused, and uninformed.

very funny john-it is great to see that hillary supporters can make their point politely and even include a little humor. while obama supporters always sound so bitter.

What a pitiful performance by George Stephanopolous! He asks a question from Sean Hannity (an individual who simply is not credible, serious or intelligent for that matter) about Bill Ayers that is nothing more than half-baked innuendo?
Sorry, George, but you should never dignified this issue without vetting it first? So he knows and is cordial with Bill Ayers. Big deal. So, they serve on a non-profit board together. So what? How large is this board -- 20 or 30 people? Who else serves on it? Does any of this matter? Come on George. You are supposed to be a credible journalist. We know Hannity is not.

bobbie; your suggestion is ridiculous-you want abc to take its lead from chris matthews the same guy that stated on national tv that he 'had a sensation of something crawling up his leg when he heard obama speak' the guy is now totally discredited forever. relegated to the trashbin of idiots where he belongs along with anyone who subscribes to his lunacy.

The reviews are in, moveon.org and other radicals will gang up on the media if it doesnt tow the line for the radical of the momemt - Obama.

The Hillary voters are for the most part voting and acting out of revenge for some long lost wrong. The wrong is most likely that Bill Clinton lied and associated with felons - pardoning as many as possible on Bill's long drawn out exit.
Revenge is not a good motive upon which to base the future.

The reviews are in. The clear loser is ABC NEWS! A college professor who assigned the debate as homework said he will be apologizing to his students when they meet in class on Friday morning.

the republicans better worry that these attacks by the clinton campaign against obama on cultural issues are not working and that they may not work in the fall either. he has shown to have strong support. also, the electorate may be changing too. repubs better figure out something else.

It is possible on the blogs to depersonalize and dehumanize the other commenters...and I think a lot of people don't read the comments either.
I am a firm believer in the power of focused positive energy...and I also believe that if you send negative energy in a digital world it comes back at you.
So try to remember that the words here DO matter.
Take care out there. And remember it's okay to disagree without being disagreeable.

By the looks of things...it's okay to beat up Hillary, but don't ask Barack a thing.
Double standard this whole election.
Lets not let her states vote...yeah that'll do it.
So what if Barack lies, lets get Hillary.
So what if the Republicans only half the delegates...we'll take all them suckers away.
OOOww, do the Obama boys have tingles going up their legs?

Obama's ties to a terrorist are not surprising. After all, Democrats routinely say that there is no such thing as terrorism (Edwards), or that we should fight it with law enforcement (Kerry), or that we should talk with terrorists intent on building nuclear weapons (Obama).
So, what's the big deal? Democrats don't think radical Islam is at war with us. Elect them, and find out what "doomsday" really means.

I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.

Also on the same board of the Woods Foundation is Patrick M. Sheahan, Executive Director of Public Affairs for UBS, a major Wall Street bank. How a prestigious institution like UBS could employ a man such as Mr. Sheahan, who serves on the same board as Ayres, is beyond me. In my opinion, UBS should dismiss Mr. Sheahan for his involvement with William Ayres. I cannot see how UBS can maintain its good reputation while continuing to employ a man like Patrick Sheahan in such a prominent position.
Or not... I mean, why would it be at all reasonable to hold Patrick Sheahan (or UBS) accountable for the past actions of William Ayres just because they both serve on the board of the same charity? The standard that presidents need to meet in their conduct should be higher than the standard that Wall Street executives meet. But just as certainly as it would be ridiculous for UBS to fire an employee over this fleeting association, it would be ridiculous for the American people to vote against someone like Obama for the same thing, someone who represents their economic interests so well.

I was surprised that George Stephanopolos did not ask Senator Obama if he had anything to do with the Vince Foster murder.

The debate was a political hit job by former Clintonista (George Stephanopoulos) and Clinton donor (Charlie Gibson). It will go down as the worst performance by a network TV in the history of televised debates.

Obama has been friends with guy for years and years and years.
Ayers is a professor at the same college Obama gave lectures.
He has been to his house. He has attended fund raisers with him.
It is not like it was something of long ago, they are presently friends and colleagues.
This guy has no regrets and would do it again. This is a friend of your possible President?
