Clinton Campaign: "Our Supporters Aren't the Grubbers"
May 05, 2008 10:34 AM
On a conference call this morning, Sen. Hillary Clinton's communications team was asked about a comment the candidate many in the media thought she made yesterday in Indiana: "Why don't we hold these Wall Street money-grubbers responsible for their role in this recession?"
(In actuality, Clinton had said "money brokers," not "momey grubbers." But at the time everyone including the Clinton campaign thought she'd said "grubbers.")
So the question -- given the support for Clinton's campaign on Wall Street from investment bankers and hedge fund managers and employees (including Chelsea Clinton), how does one distinguish between the good folks on Wall Street and the "money-grubbers"?
Joked Clinton campaign spokesman Howard Wolfson: "Our supporters aren't the grubbers!"
Then Clinton campaign strategist Geoff Garin jumped in and said that Clinton's "abiding principle is that in America we need to have shared prosperity... The truth is there are a lot of people on Wall Street who take a much more selfish view of things."
The campaign is happy to have the support of folks on Wall Street, Garin said, "they probably share her value of shared prosperity."

Belle Starr....is there a problem with Obama living with a "white woman?"

Before Michelle, he lived with a white woman in Hyde Park. Don't know if SHE was also an associate of Ayers-Dohrn, but presumably lots of people DO know.

Yes. PLEASE. And about Axelrod's tenure at the Chicago Sun-Times. And about Dohrn and Ayers and Exelon.
And about Obama's domestic partner before he married into the local Democratic machine.

According to their tax returns, Hillary gave 10% of her income to charity, a much higher percentage than Obama did. That is not a money-grubber if you ask me.

when are you all going to listen and learn?O- he is going to destory this country if he makes president!he is not his race but the man himself, he is false and needs to be booted out of the race- ask him his favorite movie, and you can decide for your self, he watched it and decided to run for the president- and it is about hiding all of his connections that are crooked, and he being so innocent- that came out in Iowa and folks were blinded by him and didnt pay attention to what he was saying- time to wake up folks and listen and read- use some common sence

It does not surprise me that she places all the blame on them also. Tell me, hasn't she been serving us in Washington for 35 years and has she not been voting against the American dream that long?? She will say and do anything for that one vote. We are so in trouble if she wins this.

Ask Alice Palmer about Obama's tactic of throwing out votes and signatures.

Oh my God- Where is Obama? We need to start labeling Hill-Bill as the money grubber! Here's miss rich B telling the poor people of Indiana that she is one of them (not counting her millions of course). She should be thrown in jail for lying about this gas tax "Fairy Tale" as Bill-Hill put it. She has been in Washington for decades and done nothing that she promises today. What an Elitist MONEY_GRUBBER you are hill-bill.
Posted by: CJ PALMER | May 5, 2008 12:35:58 PM
Obama has his share of "money grubbers" too such as Exelon, Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase, UBS, Exxon Mobil, British Petroleum and so on. Both of the Democratic candidates are Wall Street darlings.

People should get the facts straight and get facts from independently source. Fact 1 Obama receive campaign money from oil companies. Fact 2 Why did Sen.Obama take his oath on the bible like other Officials????? Muslim???? Yes!!!! If U want a president Vote Clinton or McCain!!!! Don't slap US veterans or the Miliary in the face with a person take a oath with karon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: veteran | May 5, 2008 12:26:14 PM
lets see 33million paid in taxes more then most rich people would pay because they think the rich should pay more than the poor. The Clintons have always cared about the blue collar workers.

I am so hopping mad at this thing that is called a woman>>>>>>>>>She defending her wonderful gas cut now calles AGAIN Obama an ELITIST.WOW she is begging to pi-- me off.Like she has bought gas in the past 24+ years.Damn her we but her gas annd all the oil companies will do is raise the price just like they do everyday to make up for it Let her keep talking and soon we all will be paying 5.00 a gal.
Posted by: older wh lady | May 5, 2008 12:06:35 PM
I fail to see how the Clintons could be called money grubbers; Hillary's tax cuts are certainly going to affect their financial bottom line. I would call a money grubber those who put the accumulation of personal wealth above national debt, as we've seen over and over again during the Bush administration.
Posted by: HoosierSue | May 5, 2008 12:04:36 PM
The fact that Obama and his wife are so out of touch she said she has trouble paying $14,000.00 ayear for extras for the girls he say's most people would only save $30.00 on a gas tax relief and the sad part is most of us work from birth to grave and if the economic majors are so smart why do all of us not benefit I think they should teach econimics in first grade not your senior year of school if you go to a private or magnet school you do learn about economics early and often.
Posted by: Bishop | May 5, 2008 12:02:17 PM
Uh, Low, you do know that Obama is for shared prosperity, correct? In fact, the rich will have to pay even more to make up for his blanket tax cuts for the middle class. Hillary supports targeted tax cuts for healthcare and education.
Posted by: HoosierSue | May 5, 2008 12:01:44 PM
Shared prosperity = communism; I don't want that. A level playing field so everyone can reap the benefits of their hard work....that's what I want. GO OBAMA!

It is very strange:
We raise our children to be good citizens, not to lie, to share with others, to have good manners...
And then we go and vote for a woman who is extremely aggressive, competitive up to the point of lying about others, and who displays all the attributes that we do not want in our society.
Posted by: voter | May 5, 2008 11:40:26 AM
I hope all her lies come back and bite her in the aqq.She would sell her mother if she could win ths campaign....
Posted by: older wh lady | May 5, 2008 11:39:52 AM
The only money-grubbers are the Clintons. They got $110,000.00 from multi-million dollar businesses. Hillary does not care for the poor nor for women. She cares about getting into power in any form and in any way.
It is very strange: We raise children to be good, honorable citizens, and then we vote for an aggressive, competitive and lying woman who displays all the attributes we do not want in our society.

Oil companuies raise the price of gas if there is no gas tax? What kind of insane Obamanomics is that? Why not then triple the gas tax so oil companaies will lower the price?
obamanomics is scary.

Progressive Democrat: It's not the workers who are corrupt, it's their leaders if they are left unchecked and to their own devices. Much like Obama caucus organizers taking control of caucuses. Just wondering how a presidential candidate can promise to do away with federal oversight on corruption, that's all. Just like Obama seems to think it's okay to bail out huge hedge funds, but just don't offer regular working americans any relief.
GO HILLARY 08!

Nicky
That's really goofy.
Posted by: A | May 5, 2008 11:24:11 AM
Jim, if you're not a racist why is it that you think Obama is a black man why is he not a white man, his mother is white, so you think he hates his mother who raised him as a single parent..His African father was no where to be found. If Obama is a black man, he is a white man also, the fact that you don't see that, should make you question your own prejudices...Based on the history of slavery if you had one drop of black blood you were tainted and you were black..Do you believe that? Sounds like it to me!

Let's get Bob Rubin to explain all this. Clintons Treasury Secty. He became Enron's banker at Citi. And seems now to be way deep in the subprime loan swamp.

I can't wait for Hillary to get the Presidency. All you need to do to get away with a Federal Crime is to get to know Hillary's two brothers and bribe them for a Presidential Pardon. It worked in the first administration.

Both candidates grub for money. Both have their eyes on grossly more taxation. When corporations are taxed, they pass the extra cost to consumers and get a tax break on the taxes they pay.
In short, both candidates favor big business and additional taxes for the masses. From Econ 101, all taxes are ultimately paid for by the poor!

Calli,
You are an elitist criticizing the blue collar union workers. Hillary will now be losing the blue collar vote with this elitist attitude and you are calling union members corrupt.
Posted by: Progressive Democrat | May 5, 2008 11:13:44 AM
What about Obama promising the teamster's union that he will get rid of federal oversight of the unions if elected president, as talked about in the same phone call, reported by the WSJ, and confirmed by the Obama campaign. Obama does not think that there is an "organized crime" problem in the unions anymore. Obama knows all about organized crime. More omens of the new washington headed our way.
Hillary did say this morning if the government can bail out Bear Stearns for 30 million, then it should be willing to give working americans a tax break.
GO HILLARY 08!

Hillery is a .....joke! Now she is insulting her own daughter and her NY base to get votes in Indiana. She and her machine are shameless
Posted by: Jim | May 5, 2008 11:06:12 AM
Good question. Less than satisfying answer. Who's president would she be?
Posted by: Sara B. | May 5, 2008 11:04:11 AM
Once again, Hillary reveals her hypocracy...it's okay for her daughter to benefit from employment on Wall Street, but everyone else working there are 'money grubbers'.
A vote for Hillary is a vote for socialism.

geevil - so, what happens if we don't pay the gas tax? this is what happens: the oil companies raise the price so that we wind up paying as much if not more than we would have. in addition, this tax which we supposedly won't be paying but would have gone to support our bridges (remember Minnesota?) and highways and tunnels, will wind up being instrumental in our construction people losing their jobs. this is a very, very bad idea, won't help us at all. aside from the fact that clinton is not in a position to pass this, bush has already said he's not buying into this because the economists have said it's not going to work.
Posted by: nikita | May 5, 2008 10:58:44 AM
Looks like Hilliary's supporters have the battered wife syndrome. No matter how often this woman insults you, you still come back for more. I guess the true meaning of feminism is that women are assured of being exploited by two genders, instead of one!!!

Hmmm....wasn't Robert Reich one the main economics architects of the Clinton years that left this country with a surplus? And now he disagrees with HRC? Must be another one of those ungrateful former Clinton-backer traitors...However, I would put my faith in Robert Reich before I put my faith on Hillary here. But then again, since I have no faith in HRC that's really not saying much...

Hillary and Bill are reaching for straws and trying to fool the people in NC and IN it wont work the American people are fed up with the Clintons, Bushs, and the old sneaky McCain Bush want-to-be politics as usual. and anyway the real money-grubbers on wall street know who they are. I wonder just who they are supporting?
I know they are well-educated and probally young-but I don't see them going with comrade obama.
and would sen. mcsame be good for them?
interesting?
I am just typical middle class working folk, but black-don't own a gun, but cling to god.
I think they should go with sen. clinton.
wall street money-grubbers for sen. clinton. Brilliant!

What Recession? Don't the libs know what they are talking about, don't they read we are in a slow down NOT a Recession. You need two quarters of negative growth in a row, the first quarter there was very little growth and the last quarter there was growth larger then expected.
So when are we going to get politicians that stop with the propaganda and lies.
Definitely not from the libs; their chairman loudmouth Dean was defending there lies about McCain and in the same interview acknowledging they were lies!!

Obama is a money-grubber who is against people not paying the gas tax
Posted by: geevill | May 5, 2008 10:43:03 AM
and they are correct, the two extremes of both parties are all out for their own interest, whether it helps the masses or not.
better to stay in the middle-with the shared prosperity people.
and that would be sen. clinton
