Exhausted, Anxious Democrats Announce Old Endorsements as New Ones
May 02, 2008 9:21 PM
This morning, the Obama campaign announced the endorsement of former Democratic chairman -- and Massachusetts superdelegate -- Paul Kirk.
Not so fast, said the Clinton campaign. Kirk was not a new endorsee. He'd been identified as far back as February in the Cape Cod Times and the Boston Globe as an Obama supporter.
Clinton spokesman Phil Singer said: "In their zeal to divert attention from their recent troubles, the Obama campaign 'announced' this morning that automatic delegate Paul Kirk is endorsing Sen. Obama. This is NOT a new endorsement – Mr. Kirk has been publicly backing Senator Obama since at least February."
Fair enough.
But then the Clinton campaign this evening sent around the blazing headline: "FILM ICON/HUMANITARIAN ELIZABETH TAYLOR ISSUES ENDORSEMENT OF SEN. HILLARY CLINTON."
“It would be magnificent for our country if Senator Clinton won the votes, hearts and minds of the people in Indiana and North Carolina on Tuesday," Taylor said in a statement. "She’s a brilliant teacher and powerful leader. We all know what she’s about. We know what she isn’t. Senator Clinton is not a flibbertijibbet. She’s strong. It’s also important for great leaders to have a sense of humor about themselves. The future of our great country rests in the hands of the next president. Who sits in the Oval Office will be determined greatly by the citizens of Indiana and North Carolina. In my heart, I know they will choose wisely and they will choose well.”
But…um…Taylor endorsed Clinton in January.
The only reason I remember is because at the time Taylor announced she was writing Clinton a check for $100,000. Upon learning that would be illegal, she announced she was giving $2,100.
"I have contributed to Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign because she has a mind of her own and a very strong one at that," Taylor said in a statement in January 2007. "I like the way she thinks. She is very savvy and a smart leader with years of experience in government, diplomacy and politics."

Yes Elizabeth supported Hillary in January...and if you read carefully her most recent announcement primarily addresses the voters of Indiana and North Carolina. As a Senior Reporter, your reporting skills are lacking.

Do Indiana voters realize Hillary voted no on the following 2006 bill?
'To prohibit the confiscation of a firearm during an emergency or major disaster if the possession of such firearm is not prohibited under Federal or State law.'

Well, most of Hollyweird has endorsed Barrack Hussein, that should help people feel more comfortable about who they vote for........shouldn't it?

Today was suppose to be 'family day' for the Obamas. Anything to get elected. The existance of Sidney was revealed in blogs back in Nov and Dec 2007. Also check out the Chicago Sun Times blog about Rezko/Obama. Reporters expect Obama to be charged soon. They have been following the Rezko trial.
To Thinking--you are not thinking. Richard Burton has been dead for years. Of course many of the voters for Obama maybe in the same situation as Burton.

indy voter,
sen. clinton is fighting for the american people she is the ONLY one we have to fight for us.
she does not need to fight for her political life. if she loses this she goes back to serving the people of ny
and she has done more positive things for ny than obama has done for ill.
he won his senate seat and immediately started running for president.
and if she loses her seat in ny.
she will join in and help make life for people around the world, just as the cgi has done. I wish you could tell the survivors of the tsunami and katrina and aids people all sen. clinton fights for is her political life.
when you think about it that statement is just silly.
obama will not do anything for the american people. his whole political career has always been ALL
ABOUT him. he is bought and paid for by the bigwigs in the dem. party. and they will get their cut from him before we the american people do.
sen. clinton does not need us.
but we do need her.

jacksmith, I beg to differ....Hillary is not fighting for the American people...She is fighting for her political life. Believe me, she would sell her soul to the devil (which I think she already has) to get elected. It is all politics with the Clintons...What gets me is it is so transparent yet some folks refuse to see it.

DEBATE! DEBATE!! DEBATE!!!
It's time for everyone to face the truth. Barack Obama has no real chance of winning the national election in November at this time. His crushing defeat in Pennsylvania makes that fact crystal clear. His best, and only real chance of winning in November is on a ticket with Hillary Clinton as her VP.
Hillary Clinton seemed almost somber at her Pennsylvania victory speech. As if part of her was hoping Obama could have proved he had some chance of winning against the republican attack machine, and their unlimited money, and resources.
But it is absolutely essential that the democrats take back the Whitehouse in November. America, and the American people are in a very desperate condition now. And the whole World has been doing all that they can to help keep us propped up.
Hillary Clinton say's that the heat, and decisions in the Whitehouse are much tougher than the ones on the campaign trail. But I think Mr. Obama faces a test of whether he has what it takes to be a commander and chief by facing the difficult facts, and the truth before him. And by doing what is best for the American people by dropping out of the race, and offering his whole hearted assistance to Hillary Clinton to help her take back the Whitehouse for the American people, and the World.
Mr. Obama is a great speaker. And I am confident he can explain to the American people the need, and wisdom of such a personal sacrifice for them. It should be clear to everyone by now that Hillary Clinton is fighting her heart out for the American people. She has known for a long time that Mr. Obama can not win this November. You have to remember that the Clinton's have won the Whitehouse twice before. They know what it takes.
If Mr. Obama fails his test of commander and chief we can only hope that Hillary Clinton can continue her heroic fight for the American people. And that she prevails. She will need all the continual support and help we can give her. She may fight like a superhuman. But she is only human.
Sen. Hillary Clinton: "You know, more people have now voted for me than have voted for my opponent. In fact, I now have more votes than anybody has ever had in a primary contest for a nomination. And it's also clear that we've got nine more important contests to go."
Sincerely
Jacksmith... Working Class :-)

looks like obama is using the right side of his brain to help
hoodwink the voters.
we the average american voters do not really have a say or a change in this election. because the democratic party bigwigs have decided for their own gain sen. clinton will not be president.
for the bigwigs there is nothing in it for them out of sen. clinton winning.
obama is their guy-and they have bought and paid good money for him. and they are going to do any and everything to protect their interest.
all of the typical american supporters of obama defending him and going on about and defending him. your votes really will not matter-dnc,pelosi,kerry and the professional politicians are the only ones who matter.
obama is underqualified to be president
and everyone knows it.
I think the black people are voting FOR
him
every other vote for him is a vote AGAINST sen. clinton.
so once again the smartest one loses
sen. clinton is the smartest one of the three.
obama win=country loses

Clinton, Obama, Clinton, Obama... Gosh, it's nice to see the 'get along' party fighting like two disgruntled third graders in the back seat on a very long, hot car trip. Too bad Dean can't pull over and beat some sense into them. Especially making the uncommitted super delegates commit to one or the other. Ah, the good old days when child abuse was legal. But I digress... The fact is Obama has more votes, more delegates and a batter chance of beating McCain than Clinton. Another fact is I'll vote for McCain before Clinton. Finally, I feel like I have to take a shower every time I hear Clinton talk. She gets muted as fast as Bush does (I can't stand to hear that idiot, either). I don't care who votes how. It's their right. But the bickering that's going on because of the non-committed delegates and the delusion that the underdog has a chance and isn't ripping her party apart by maintaining that delusion is only making that long, hot car trip with squabbling kids that much longer, hotter and unpleasant for the rest of us. One wonders when the trip is over, how many are going to bolt for the hills never to return.

So the Obama campaign is again distorting facts to gain an edge. That is nothing new, just more dishonesty. Why are they not announcing Obama's endorsement from the Hamas Terrorist Organization?
Voters should read the Chicago Sun Times blogs. Very interesting about Omama and Rezko.

Obama needs prayers. Looks like he and Michelle used their church and pastor then betrayed them.
Lets not forget the big whopper he is telling America...Oh I never knew my pastor was like that.
Obama needs prayers that Rev.Wright won't resurface and tell the truth.

My five kids endorse Obama. They are young adults that have a long future of voting.
If they see the DNC steal this for Hillary they will leave the DNC.
They are not impressed with the Clinton dirty tricks, they are not impressed with the racism, they are not impressed with Hillary.
Why is this important? The DNC is going to lose this generation. The choice is theirs and the future of their Party.

I like Obama. He is like a breath of fresh air in this long running folly that some would have us go through....Bush--then Clinton-- then Bush--then, what another Clinton? (possibly 28 years worth of them), no thanks.
As a working man I will not forget the Clintons love for NAFTA and what it has cost workers no matter what she is trying to say the last several months.
I get pived hearing the garbage from some of her supporters---trying to turn some of her negatives into positives--sure they say(with a wink, wink) she's driven and is known to be a bit of a liar, but that's what we need, she will be driven for us and do the nasty, necessary things that will need to be done. Bull, Hillary is only driven for Hillary and she has proven that a number of times--she is willing to back stab anyone or group that gets in the way of her ambitions (now and if she was in the White house)and I don't trust her at all...I in fact consider it very dangerous that she has no trouble turning on people and groups that have supported her in the past. IMO she is a sociopath that lacks any real feelings or empathy for people--and is only as good in that area as she can manage to fake it.

SUPER-DELEGATES
Clinton is the only person who can beat MCain. She has the experience and the mental toughness to go the distance. To endorse Obama is to court defeat. Why is it so difficult to back a woman to run as the Democratic Presidential candidate?

At first I was I was concerned that perhaps there were a lot of Hillary supporters blogging.... then I remembered Lush Rhimbaugh and his operation..... It seems to me that the Republicans are going out of their way to get Hillary nominated, because they believe she would be the BEST opponent against McCain. That would be great ..... getting to pick your own opponent. That's what they do in wrestling... isn't it ?

I am surprised You people are taalking about such petty little stuff. I am sure that his vote won't count twice....SO WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?
Posted by: Ron | May 3, 2008 9:18:01 AM
How can you compare Obama's counting a super delegate who previously supported him to a new endorsement to Elizabeth Taylor's endorsement of Hillary. There is no comparison!!! You know that!!! You have totally disappointed me. Not because you clearly endorse Obama - but because your reporting/opinions are so unfair/untrue/biased beyond reason. You should go on all the media shows and tell everyone that you were ABSOLUTELY WRONG about the War Room story.

Why have Andrews and Kirk had their endorsement speaches written by the Obama campaign?
How much has Obama's HopefundAmerica PAC been doling out and to whom?

Forget the endorsements; how about the dissing of
Florida and Mich voters....that is what is so unfair.
and offensive. And just wrong for democracy and
the party.
The Obama camp loves to run a clip of Clinton
saying “Florida and Michigan count for nothing” .
This is true, and so what? At the time the states
counted for nothing, and that was part of the
agreement. Another part of the agreement was,
that they would soon be made to count for
something once the DNC had applied its rules. This
logic is amply evidenced by a ton of quotes from
Dean and the DNC at the time of the Florida and
Michigan vote.
Clinton in no way implied, that she would not seek
to seat the Florida and Michigan delegates. She was
merely stating the DNC consensus at the time. Did
she intend the DNC to violate its own laws and
disenfranchise both states?
Certainly not! IN fact, she was and remains the first,
loudest, and only advocate that both states vote be
counted!
Obama chose NOT to be on the Michigan ballot
This was a strategic mistake on his part. Further
proof that he was intending to disenfranchise
Michigan all along. Instead of sending a message of
Hope to Michigan Democrats that while their vote
was presently not being counted due to their
infringement of Party Rules, the Democrats would
seek to find a way to make it count, Obama chose
to send a clear message that Michigan was
WORTHLESS.
This attitude is further attested by his desire to
block any resolution of the impasse.
Clinton, along with three other Democrats, equally
sworn to upholding DNC election rules, chose to
send a clear message of Hope to Michigan. She
knew, like Obama, that presently the Michigan vote
would not be featured in the total delegate tally, but
unlike Obama she showed solidarity with
Michigan voters and held out a promise of
respecting their electoral decision.
For the last two months Obama is insulting the
people of FL and MI, touting his Delegate and State
lead, with FL and MI no where to be seen or
mentioned.
How can someone, who talks of grass-roots and
political engagement and the importance of votes,
who poses as the Apostle of Direct Democracy and
a candidate running on a popular mandate, get
away with the unconscionable farce of running
around the country without any Media scrutiny?
For the last two months Obama has been touting
his victory in the Primary, while cruelly and
heartlessly suppressing the vote of 2,300,000
Americans!
The DNC theft of the Florida vote is particularly
illegal.
While the story of Florida moving its Primary
forwards is unfortunate, the story of the DNC
disenfranchisement of Florida, is Criminal. The
Florida Democratic party, was forced to move its
primary forward, by a REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED
STATE LEGISLATURE.
Prominent FL Democrats opposed this
State Legislation, BUT TO NO AVAIL.
THIS FACT IS ENTIRELY LOST TO THE MEDIA.WHY?
Because it exposes the DNC attack on Florida as
anti-democratic, biased, and untenable.
All DEMOCRATS are entitled to know this fact,
and Clinton supporters need to get it out there. The
DNC action against FLorida, is illegal. The Florida
Democratic Party did not violate DNC rules- rather,
it was the Republican Controlled State legislature,
that did. In this case, how can the DNC hold Florida
accountable? How can the DNC construe its
authority over Florida, when no responsibility can
be attributed to Florida Democrats!?
Too many Clinton supporters get carried away with
the legal questions of Florida and Michigan. This is
a distraction. The facts are the facts. The DNC
played games with us, it allowed Obama to play
games with us, and it is attempting to
disenfranchise 2.3 million voters, so it can have
Obama as the Party Nominee.
The DNC has betrayed the trust of the American
people, and if it continues to ignore the Voice of FL
and MI voters, it is sending a message not just to
Democrats, but it is telling all Americans that one
of our country’s two leading parties, is neither
Democratic, nor Respectful of the Popular and
Delegate vote, nor concerned with impartiality.
It is our duty, as Democrats, to see that DNC
election rules are respected, first and foremost at
the top of our party. Those who fail to adhere to
the rules, need to be handed the pink-slip. DNC
representatives are all obliged to respect these
rules, otherwise they are not Democrats. It is our
duty as Democrats, to fight for the recognition of
the vote of every fellow democrat. If there is a
campaign which discourages this fight,
which send s clear message that some voters are
more equal than others, this campaign should be
held directly responsible for undermining the party,
the democratic process, and our chances in the
General Election.
The Obama camp, needs to be held accountable to
any misinformation it spreads on account of Florida
and Michigan. It must be exposed for the divisive,
opportunistic, and anti-democratic Chicago
machine, that it is. Already it has corrupted our
party, already divided and subjected to incredible
bias and prejudice. How much longer can this go
on?
It cannot - and Florida and Michigan must be
recognized as soon as possible.
OBAMA has votes from there and they should count
and so should CLINTONS'.
THE MEDIA SOMEDAY MAY REMEMBER THEY ARE JOURNALISTS NOT TABLOID WRITERS.

Former DNC Chair Paul G. Kirk, Jr. Endorses Barack Obama; Delegate Countdown - 279 To Go

Chicago, IL – Today, Former Democratic National Committee Chair and Massachusetts supderdelegate Paul G. Kirk, Jr. endorsed Barack Obama.
The endorsement brings the total number of superdelegates to endorse Barack Obama to 253. Senator Obama is 279 delegates away from securing the Democratic nomination.
His statement is below:
“It is with a great sense of pride and confidence in his leadership that I am delighted to publicly endorse Senator Barack Obama and pledge my support to him as former National Democratic Chairman and as a superdelegate. Senator Obama is the one candidate who has and will continue to expand the electorate beyond the traditional Democratic party base and bring young and new and Independent voters to the Democratic banner in November, an essential ingredient to a Democratic victory.
“Throughout his life and public career, has fought the tough fights to advance the quality of life of the working families of Illinois, not with election year gimmicks like the gas tax holiday espoused by others, but by hard headed, common sense solutions, and that’s what he will do as President of the United States.
“America never turns back. America always marches forward to seize the future. 8 of 10 Americans believe their country is on the wrong track. Senator Obama is the one candidate who, in the best tradition of American history, will not take us back but will lead us to a new future.
“Senator Obama is the one candidate best able to quickly restore America’s respect and reputation globally. Senator Obama is the one candidate best able to set the tone at the top for the unity and reconciliation needed in this country, to bring us together, to define our common goals and to provide the inspiration to move us forward.
“After the attention paid to the poisonous and polarizing diatribe of recent days, Senator Obama’s clear and compelling message which appeals to our best instincts as Americans is more important than ever. For all these reasons, I heartily endorse Senator Obama and hope my colleagues will do the same.”

Obama isn't losing. Obama is winning. You only attack winners, not losers. Since Hillary likes to fight, why hasn't she explained the negative comments coming from her campaign by Kantor. Why hasn't she addressed the lawsuit Paul v Clinton where Peter Paul contributed 1.2 million dollars to Hillary's Senate campaign in exchange for Bill Clinton becoming a rainmaker for his company. They took the money and backed out of the deal and Mr. Paul's company went under. Why isn't the media running every station with that? It is clear there are different standards.

Another desperate move by the Obama camp.. a superdelegate announces his support...again. Apples and oranges...Liz Taylor is not a superdelegate so I don't know why she would be compared to Paul Kirk. Kirk is a very, very close political ally of Ted Kennedy, which makes the reannouncement even more set up. The Obama camp needs to doctor up a few more video tapes, maybe that'll do the trick for him.

Dear Superdelegate,
Back a winner.
Let’s take back the White House!
* Republicans have won 7 of the last 10 Presidential elections.
* Bill Clinton (1993-2001) is the only Democrat to win reelection since FDR (1932-1944)
* Republicans are 0 and 7 against the Clintons. (1982-present)
Please support Hillary Clinton for President.

I still dont know why mr obama is still in the race or why he's in the race at all. He is nothing more than an empty suit.Hillary has many years of high level experience as a senator and will be ready from day one for the rigors of the white house. She is tough, experienced and realistic and her depths of knowledge is astounding. Go Hillary, we love you!

Or, really, Taylor is not American, thank You for reminding.
Means the line of Americans for Clinton is ...over.

I don't know about the candidates, but I am sick of this whole mess. If I didn't believe in Obama so much I would turn back to the Republican party in a heartbeat.
It sure isn't the party I'm voting for...it is the man. I remember now why I never even looked twice at a Democratic nominee for dogcatcher in the past.
Democrats, in my opinion, are a bunch of school yard bullies who don't care if they are caught in bold face lies. They lie about their lies time and time again until they actually start to believe them. None are better at it than the Clintons.
As a former Republican, who really doesn't have to worry either way, you Dems really better ask yourself why Hillary is so suddenly best friends with that famous right wing conspiracy. You know that group who sought and succeeded in getting her husband impeached.
If not Hillary in '08, she will destroy and split your party so Obama won't win. Triangulation is the name of the Clinton game. In the general it will be either Obama or McCain...take your pick now.

What happened to all the supers endorsing Obama everyday? This is the first day in a long time he didnt get an endorsement. Did he run out of the 50 ?
I honestly think still that the supers need a real exuse to give it to clinton.
If she wins the popular vote, then I do think the nomination is hers.

Questioner,
I do not know if Michelle's mother is a superdelegate. You said this election is not fair because of that (if your statement is true). But listen, if you were not that blinder follower, you could have also noticed that 280 of the superdelegates backed Clinton the day she announced her candidacy. Bill Clinton is a superdelegate too.

Sometimes I am moved by news articles about a regular guy (or gal) that does something demonstrating clear thinking, courage or creativity and send $5 anonymously as a thank you and to point out that someone noticed.
I sent the guy that spit on Jane Fonda $10
Think I will send him another $10

Yeah, why isn't the Obama campaign singing the Fonda endorsement from the rooftops! Bet that wouldn't go over too well with the military families Obama has been trying to win. I'm just excited about Mellencamp's endorsement of Clinton...

Let's give equal time to Jane Fonda's endorsement of Barack Obama.
