Hillary Mentions RFK Assassination When Discussing Why She's Staying in the Race
May 23, 2008 4:28 PM
In an interview with the Argus (SD) Leader editorial board today, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, took the unusual step of invoking the assassination of Sen. Robert Kennedy, D-NY, when discussing reasons why she was staying in the presidential race.
Asked about calls for her to drop out, Clinton said, “This is part of an ongoing effort to end this before it’s over. I sure don’t think it’s over." She mentioned how non-frontrunners took their delegates to the convention in 1980, 1984, 1988, and 1992.
Suggesting that Obama's campaign has been the source of stories about a unity ticket with her as vice president, Clinton said, "people have been trying to push me out of this ever since Iowa."
Clinton was then asked if she doesn't think that those calling for the ticket are actually interested in uniting the party.
"I don’t because I’ve been around long enough," she said. "My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. You know, I don't understand it. And there's lots of speculation about why it is."
Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton responded: “Senator Clinton's statement before the Argus Leader editorial board was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign."
The Clinton campaign responds that Clinton "was simply referencing her husband in 1992 and Bobby Kennedy in 1968 as historic examples of the nominating process going well into the summer. Any reading into beyond that would be inaccurate."

She probabaly didnt mean anything by it and was referring to past nominations. What was wrong was using that as an example and saying it out loud. You never know who might take a statement like that and think "good idea". There are some real crack pots out there. When running for the highest position in the country, one should be more resposible than that. We all know that it was just an unthought statement and I know the media will spin it out of control as they have done with Clinton, Obama and McCain on really silly points. However it is still something that should have never been said especailly with all the racist nuts listening. Thats what she should apologize for.

What a classic move … read Shakespeare’s Richard the Second to see how the king (a weak & increasingly pathetic figure) makes a veiled reference to get his main challenger killed … and when he is, the king expresses surprise and remorse!!
..
As I have been trying to hold on to some kind of respect for Hillary, she is repeatedly demonstrating that ..
...
NO EVIL MOVE is too low for her. NO SELF-SERVING, power-grabbing desperation is beyond her .. and her spin machine.
....
Very sad. As with our earlier “choice”, it seems we get the leaders we deserve - UNLESS we send a clear message that we will not take this anymore.
.....
P.S. Homework Assignment: Ponder whether the citizen apologizers for Clinton are doing it knowingly or are they in the daze experienced by followers of charismatic “strong” leaders?

With all the racism, sexism, and age descrimination in this election, it will set the country back 200 years. That's why we need Hillary to make us pure like we were before.

Hillary's reasons for being in this race are becoming more and more bizarre. Next she'll probably claim god is talking directly to her and she's only doing his will. What a wacko.

American10...So you didn't mean what you said when referencing a spade is a spade. Why should we believe that. Why would we take what you said at face value? You don't take what Hillary said that was a fact? Could that be because you really were offending people of color??? That is terrible.

I meant mirror, in my last message, sorry about that.

merican10...If your looking for the truth you are backing the wrong guy. Obama has told more lies than any candidate in History. Rezko, Wright, Hamas, Auchi, Farrakhan etc. etc. etc.

Im almost sure it was just a bad comment and she didnt mean any thing by it. She is running for the Dem nomination and should be more careful about using those kind of examples when giving reasons to stay in though. What I do not understand is some of the Clinton supporters wont even admit it was a bad thing to say. No matter what she does some of them just seem blind to it. Her name could be Hillary Manson
the way some of her supporters are attached to her no matter what she does.
Its almost scary. Obama has slipped and made a statement that came out wrong and Obama himself and most of his supporters admitted it was a bad statement regardless of what he meant to say and we moved on. Today Hillary aplogized, but didnt aplogize for even using such a sad example, but just aplogized if any one and most of all the Kennedy family took offense. It wasnt the offending she should aplogize for but the using that knd of example to stay in the race. She is desperate and tired my friends. I gave her the my understanding because this is a free country and she should be able to run as long as she wants. But now, not only does she look like she is trying to win underhanded but with statements like that, are hurting the whole Dem. party. I think its time for the SDs to step in and put an end to this for everyones good. If they do she will probably not reconize their decision either. Its a shame I really use to like her. Obama 08

A new low for Hillary. I can't believe people still think she should be president, she's has no honor or class whatsoever.

Wow, there are some people out here that don't get it..
My last statement was to show how offline "Eyes wide open" was off point of my message of calling a Spade a Spade.
It means it is what it is.
No reference to color or race.
Unless you use that type of verbage to describe a person..
Being black I don't, maybe you do..
Take a look in the mirror..

I agree, they're twisting her words, but it's more like they're twisting the twister. Remember how Bill/Hillary unabashedly twisted Obama's reference to Ronald Reagan?

Don't know.

I can't believe the media is playing the age discrimination card on John McCain.

And speaking of Mr. Obama's shady friends, has a verdict been reached in Tony Rezko's trial yet??
Posted by: SandyB | May 23, 2008 7:24:56 PM
This is nothing, with all the questions about Obama's shady friends why would anyone comment on this.

Hillary is a nut case.

My apologies to you, after the last statement it is clear that you are one of the SHEEP OF AMERICA.
And you want to remain a sheep.
Obama wants you and all Ameiricans to have a VOICE IN DEMOCRACY.
The SHEEP wants someone to lead them to greener pastures and FATEN them up for the KILL.
As Bill did when he created all those jobs, then gave them all away in NAFTA.
Fools make the same mistake over, and over and over.
Where will you stand.
American or SHEEP in America

If the tables had been turned, and Mr. Obama had made that statement about Bill Clinton and RFK in June, I would have just been glad to see that he had gotten his U.S. History correct for a change, and probably wouldn't make anything out of it at all.
