Hillary, Nutcrackers & Sexism
May 30, 2008 11:52 AM
ABC News' Claire Shipman took a look at sexism and the campaign of Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, this morning on GMA.
Claire also made mention of the Women's Media Center and its video "Sexism May Sell, But I'm Not Buying It!" which you can watch HERE.
For a counterpoint, check out Peggy Noonan's "Sex and the Sissy," where she writes, "If Golda Meir, a woman of not only proclaimed but actual toughness, heard about Golda nutcrackers, she would have bought them by the case and given them away as party favors."
For the record, the other day on Fox News Channel Clinton campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe said he owned a Hillary Nutcracker. Is that sexist?

"Yes, if she runs as an independent she'll get elected."
In what universe will this woman be president? ROFLMFAO! Newsflash: SHE IS FINISHED IN POLITICAL LIFE.

I have seen very little about her comments that she was thinking if not chosen she'll run as an independent. This is the worse group of candidates I have ever seen we would be better off with Ron Paul or Nader than any of the three. Obama shows us more every day that he is not qualified; if elected he'll blame all of his failures on whites. McCain will have us in Iran and Clinton the lesser of three evils. At she'll understand we cannot afford to leave Iraqi, we should never have been there but with a Saddam Hussein at the helm Iran or Al-Qaeda will have access to the oil. Yes, if she runs as an independent she'll get elected.

Peggy Noonan is an idiot.

This sophomoric name calling and bickering is sad. Given the state that George Bush will have left this country in, I hope that Democrats will rise above the petty crap that I see here and come together to elect a Democratic president in November.
When I was a kid, my Grandmother used to call this kind of stuff "cutting off your nose to spite your face." Want four more years of death and mayhem in the Middle East? Leave the party and vote for McCain. Don't care that 47 million Americans are without health care? Vote straight Republican! Delighted that lobbyists are running the country while the middle class disappears, donate to the GOP! Not concerned that one of our "moderate" Supreme Court Justices is 88 years old and will be replaced by the next President? Volunteer to go door-to-door for McCain.
We all need to get over it and get on with it. The future of the country's at stake with this one. I don't think that future needs to be decided based on Obama's pastor or Hillary nutcrackers.

questioner,
Please back up your argument with fact by listing how Obama has "dug a crack in the racial vista of our country so deep..." You went on to talk about angry coworkers, but nothing else.
thanks.

@la: "And you describe this man as 'a horror' lol then you all wonder why people tell you how transparent that is.
You actually imply that he has done nothing to be where he is? But a first lady is somehow more qualified."
Let's take that apart and see if we can untangle the spin.
1. I didn't say 'he' is a horror. He is a likable guy even if arrogant and aloof. I said 'the horror' because his associates and their positions plus the pile on from the Middle East put Pelosi and her Pranksters on a day-glo bus to hell. They can't lead. The electorate will tire very fast and the downticket races will reflect that. IOW, woody weeding time for the DNC.
2. He hasn't earned this nomination. On that I agree. Pelosi's Amazing Money Machine bought his delegates and his ability to outspend 4 to 1. Nothing in his legislative achievement says he can. Then there are those pictures of Hillary Clinton in the green zone with John McCain among thousands of others showing she goes where the crosses grow and comes back with the facts. Say what you will about Bosnia, she was there.
What I am saying is 'THIS' first lady is far more qualified, and THIS Senator is the strongest candidate. That the Pelosi cabal in the DNC chose to use all their resources to destroy her says clearly we need to push them out of power and that they feared her as an executive more than they wanted Obama. I can and have speculated as to why that is so but history will tell.

We in Europe cannot believe what is happening in the US.It is a horrible campaign, Obama is withstanding the racial and is never losing his "cool".He is truly "President material.
We believe people are actually voting for Bill Clinton, the """Fixer" as they see him.
Times have changed since his Presidency, And I am afraid this time,He wii also cook with water. It gives us here the impression the Clintons insist on becoming a second Kennedy family. aw

Obama has dug a crack in the racial vista of our country so deep, it emanates a political stink and generates a sense of outrage in many citizens.
I work with people of most colors (not green) and many ethnicities and this topic has popped up often in our conversations.
Many of them were pro-BO to begin with but have for the most part trickled down to a pitiful few.... not only because of his sexist attitude and countless verbal gaffes.... but mainly because of his picking at the open wound of racism.. and scratching at it so that it never heals!
He is surly, intolerant of anyone who interrupts his train of thought, unable to express himself without the aid of a eleprompter; in this regard, infact,
B O is pretty much like George Bush!
I DO NOT THINK THAT the perpetrator of our current racial issues..... is the same person who can best heal us!
Which is why I will be voting for HILLARY!!!
Posted by: questioner | May 30, 2008 2:28:14 PM
@la: "this crap is more important???"
Yes. Where past performance is the most important predictor of future performance, yes.
No one owns those issues you are bringing up. Everyone has a plan. In the case of the Democrats, the plans are close in nature kind and objectives. Some are not achievable because they go too far too fast or cost too much. People know this. It is part of the campaign.
So in the end it comes down to who do you trust to do their very best. Character assessment is precisely how most make that decision. Hillary comes out ahead and that is why she is ahead in the popular vote and her lead is widening. The Democrats woke up out of the sleepwalk and paid attention to Obama too late because they didn't take him seriously and they already know her or think they do. The $40 million character assassination done by the Republicans had a lasting effect.
Now they are wide awake and seized with a horror of what seems unavoidable. They have not only set up the weaker candidate for nomination, but one who's associates guarantee a scandal a week for years to come. So we get four and the Republicans get another twelve and that is the BEST we can do.
It didn't have to be this way. Maybe we learned something but history indicates learning is lost one generation after it is found.

WELL, I C A N VOTE!
and I choose to vote for the best candidate.... HILLARY CLINTON....!
AND I WILL !!!

People who vote for McCain are nuts!
Has anyone read his health care policy?
It basically takes the burden off of business to supply insurance and forces people to fend for themselves. There's no power of group purchasing using that method.
The tax break he proposes will not begin to cover the cost differential for a family of four.
Do you think business is going to raise your pay as they recoup the savings?
(It's actually illegal to take away insurance and then raise an emplyee's pay to compensate, but that's a whole other issue.)
The cost of health care for the Average American will skyrocket under this plan.
Granted, if the Dems are smart, the Congress will never allow this to happen. But health care for those who really need it will never happen under McCain. He will have the power of the veto.

I mean when Bush won.
Posted by: Jo | May 30, 2008 1:32:47 PM
Obama wouldn't win most states he won had all this new info come out. Period.
Posted by: Jo | May 30, 2008 1:32:10 PM
You think far left democrats were shocked when Kerry won in 2004?
Just wait and see the look of shock on their faces when Mccain wins in 2008.
Oh yes, and remember the big rally Obama had in Oregon? The one they say had 75,000 people? What the Obama-loving media forgot to mention is that a very popular Oregon based band (The Decemberists) played a free concert.
Most were there for that. Oh yes, the little things they media leaves out so you will get a different perspective is hilarious.
But we find out, baby. We find out!

Then what about wyoming and montana wich he will win we are makiong sure of that Iowa.. the list goes on

The DNC has sat back and abdicated control of the primary process to the misogynist press. These few mental midgets will shove Obama into the nomination. The sheep dressed as super delegates, afraid to stand up for what is right, will follow Nancy and Reid to the Obama “Hope Bandwagon”. When it crashes and everyone sobers up from the love fest, we will have four years of John McCain. That’s what happens when the stupid misogynist male press terrified by a smarter woman, takes control of what is supposed to be a Democratic process.
This is not about sexism. It is about misogyny. This national hatred of women has been unveiled for the whole world to see what men in power in the US think about powerful women.
If anyone thinks that this is just about Hillary, this one woman, you are in for a surprise. It's going to be baaaaad!

BIG FORK... Hillary....
Posted by: Joe | May 30, 2008 1:28:36 PM
New voter,
I'll answer that. Because most people found out these things AFTER he won most of these primaries.
A few like Oregon and North Carolina he won because Oregon is far left and NC has many many blacks.
But he would have never won Missouri or Iowa, etc. etc. if people had known.
Thanks for asking. Glad to inform you.

I think the do nothing plaster a botox smile Nancy Pelosi should just shut her big mouth up.She has been in the tank for Pasotorbama for months and claims to be neutral.Dem nomination will be decided by the popular vote not her math, wish she had used some of her skills to keep the economy going and keep gas prices down or achieve anything of note in the congress.
