Most Americans Are Concerned Someone Will Try to Harm Obama
May 23, 2008 8:37 PM
Why such sensitivity on the subject of assassinations when Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., is involved?
Are the American people more concerned someone will try to harm Obama than, say, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., his likely general election opponent?
Yep.
According to the ABC News/Washington Post poll from March 2, 59 percent of Americans said they were concerned "that someone might attempt to physically harm Barack Obama if he's the Democratic nominee for president."
"Very" concerned was 24 percent.
83 percent of African-Americans were concerned.
Fewer than half of the American people -- 27 percent -- said they were concerned someone might attempt to physically harm McCain, with 10 percent saying they were very concerned.
Thanks to ABC News polling director Gary Langer.

To Matt:
What part of 'It doesn't matter whether Clinton or Obama wins, so long as we have a Democrat for president' do you not understand? How can you contort this statement to claim that its a preference for one over the other?
Clearly, we need to defeat John McCain, regardless of who does it. We cannot afford four more years of Bush politics. If you feel defeating McCain is an attack on one of the Democrats, well, I don't agree.
John McCain must be defeated in the fall. There is no other argument.

Do you know about "the silent vote"???
"silent vote" is the vote that didn't
go to primaries OR caucuses after 7pm
to get a delegate for Hussein Obama.
But this "silent vote" will vote in
november.

Why did I post that. I'm such a MORON!

Hillary is the prime example of someone who just doesn't know when its long over. She is still in shock that someone actually won the nomination instead of her. She is walking and talking in a daze, and it will take a long time for her to sink in that she is finished both as a presidential candidate and the end of the Clinton era. I always liked the Clintons, but this nomination fight has brought out the worst of Hillary for all to see, and my respect for her has all but evaporated.

See it is starting aready. You Obama supporters are now calling anyone who does not agree with Obama a Republican. It will not work! We Hillary supporters do not agree with Obama and will never support him because we are Americans First and will do what is best for America. Only a complete fool would vote party no matter who the nominee is. Electing Obama is like electing another Bush.
Hillary 2008 but if not than McCain!

If Obama steals the Nomination because of the Media and the ones that they have FOOLED into voting for him it will be great to listen to the Obama supporters twist everything around and try and get Hillary supporters to vote for him.All you will here is about getting rid of Bush who will be gone no matter who is elected.Obama is more like bush than anyone else.About being a true Democrat! These Obama Kool-Aid drinkers will try everything but IT WILL NOT WORK! HILLARY supporters will NEVER back Obama because he would do worse than Bush did. He is nothing but a Media created FAKE and is UNELECTABLE!

I actually would think Bush and Cheney are in greater danger because of all the carnage in their wake. There are some racist and possibly a few Clinton nutters who would love if something happened to Obama, but I don't think it is going to happen. What she said is pretty bad. These politicians should just keep their mouths shut. Most have nothing good to say unless their last name is Gravel, Paul, Nader, Kucinich or the like.

Isn't it so wonderful hearing these Republican FearMongers trying to incite strife between the Clinton supporters and the Obama supporters?
You can always tell, too. They tend to SHOUT when their message is weak. Trying to point out the inaccuracy in their argument, the louder and more fervently they SHOUT.
Why would the Republican FearMongers want to inflame the Democratic issue so venomously? Because their intent is to deflect focus from the Republican hypocrisy in their convictions.
Neither Clinton or Obama is a Left Wing or a Right Wing radical. They are trying to improve the lives of mainstream Americans. Both Obama and Clinton are strongly against sending American jobs overseas, a stance McCain doesn't share. Both Clinton and Obama want all Americans to enjoy a quality of life, not just the elite few making huge profits on the backs of the average worker, like John McCain does. The argument should not be who should be the Democratic nominee, instead efforts should focus on defeating the Republican burden that average Americans are now forced to bear.
A vote for John McCain is clearly a vote for four more years of George Bush - you know, the guy who got us into this mess. George Bush is now supporting McCain, and McCain is actively embracing Bush.
Put the petty bickering aside, and focus on the bigger problem. America is on the wrong track thanks to Bush, and McCain is offering the same future. It doesn't matter whether its Obama or Clinton who defeats McCain, so long as we have a Democrat for President.

Rova,
Great post! I wish more people here would put this all into prespective and get a grip.
If we don't get the Repubs out of office we wont know exactly what has been done to this country under the Bush years. And we can't fix what we dont know about.

Just when you think that things can not possibly get any worse in America some people actually want to elect Obama which would be NO different than leaving in the puppet (Bush) we already have. The Media and Powerfull Corporations would have another puppet (Obama) to screw the American people some more. All this proves that even smart people can be complete fools. The media and the powerfull corporations just may pull it off again and fool the people into electing another media created puppet! We get exactly what we deserve.

Here we go again! Let's stick to the issues here. There will NEVER be the totally right candidate for anyone living in this country! In terms of harm for either candidate, THEY KNOW WHAT THE RISKS ARE....! IF THEY DIDN'T KNOW, THEY WILL NOT BE RUNNING FOR OFFICE!
BUT THE MAIN ISSUE ARE THE ISSUES!!!
In terms of the Republican party, do you really want to see another one of "Bush's Boys" get into the oval office????? If this happens, many more of us will be out of jobs! That's the working class of American people, black, white, red, pink, brown or what ever your color are!!!!!! Gas prices will continue to get higher!!!!! We will stll be in war with IRAQ and even IRAN!!!! Foreclosures will continue to sky rocket more than what they already are!!!! The American dollar will continue to shrink!!!!!! You will be at risk for loosing your health insurance!!!! The rich will continue to get richer while you continue to pay more in taxes!!!! The middle class American will become lower class Americans!!!! WHAT OTHER DISEASTERS DO YOU WANT TO SEE IF ANOTHER ONE OF "THOSE KIND" GET INO THE WHITEHOUSE!!!!!!
Clearly you can see that I am a democrat and frankly I do not care which democratic candidate gets in because the republicans need to GET OUT!!!
Another point of view to consider is the this country is in such economic and social mess that it will take more than just a president to correct the problems that the Bush administration created. He/she will need a team of Americans to work with them in making the wrongs of America right!!!
Think about that and wake the hell up!!!!!!!!

WHY would anyone WASTE their time and try to assassinate Obama. He is doing an excellent good of it all by himself!

Really? Yestarday's Super Delegate tally: Obama 3/Clinton -1
Yup, Clinton is actually going backwards and losing delegates. So whose assassinating whose campaign?
I don't think Clinton meant anything sinister in her remarks, but she isn't making herself look good to the Super Del's, which she needs if she's gonna take this to the floor.

Ah - the democratic party's mindset. Pelosi, Obama, Al Franken, Reid, et al. What a bunch. You party regulars should hide. You moderates should run away.
This is not your democratic party any more unless you're a real radical! Think about it before you swallow the spin.

I was not too concerned for Obama's safety, or at least not more than any other candidate or officeholder, until I read the earlier post by Guardian, May 24 at 10:14 a.m. about military kill power and defending our country from enemies, foreign or domestic. This sounded like a threat if I ever read one. Guardian, please clear this up.
I am an Obama supporter, senior citizen female, and not overly fond of Hillary, but I do not think she meant any harm. I'm sick and tired of the media gossipmongers looking for new meat every day. Definitely praying for November to get here. Thanks.

At this moment in time we are in a slow political news cycle so this story becomes bigger than it needs to be. HRC clearly said something stupid and I'll attribute it to the desperation she seems to be feeling in her now delusional run for the nomination. The DEMS that want her out of the race reason that she has been ,by any rational bearing, defeated and the race against McCain needs to begin.Nothing more. Nothing historical about it.
