(One last blog post before my three days off.)

A not unexpected, but no less impressive victory for Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., tonight in West Virginia.

Two reactions from her camp tonight that were worth noting, I thought.

One from communications czar Howard Wolfson on CNN, a well articulated explanation of their argument in these final few weeks of the official primary calendar.

Wolfson plays three roles in this one-act: the Communications Czar, the Evil Media, and the Chorus of Superdelegates.

"Senator Clinton has predicted she'd carry West Virginia against John McCain," Wolfson said. "She showed tonight just how she would do that. This isn't just a small victory. This is a huge victory.

"You know, the media has been telling voters 'Barack Obama is the presumptive nominee, it's all over, give up, don't come out and vote,' and yet in overwhelming numbers they've come out and voted for Senator Clinton tonight.

"I think superdelegates are going to look at that tomorrow and say, 'You know, let's slow this down, let's take a look at this. Can we really deny the nomination to someone who's won the key swing states of West Virginia and Ohio and Michigan and Florida and Pennsylvania. I don't think that's a good idea for our party.'"

And…scene.

(We should of course point out that the Michigan and Florida primaries were not recognized, candidates did not compete there, and Obama was not even on the ballot in Michigan, so claiming she won those states is quite a controversial claim.)

Then there's this other interesting tidbit from Sen. Clinton, who pointed out that the voters of West Virginia certainly don't consider this race to be over. And then: "Why did 64 percent of Democrats say in a recent poll say they wanted this race to continue?"

That's a bit odd, because she's citing our own ABC News/Washington Post poll there, and in that same poll, Democrats said by a 12-point margin that they preferred Obama as the nominee.

In any case, a huge victory for Clinton, one that ultimately is likely to cause Democratic agita but not any significant change in The Proverbial Math.

Obama's new concern about Israel is just Pandering for votes just like his new concern now for Florida and Michigan
Why would Obama speak before a muslim group asking for assistance for Palestine in 1990? This concern about Israel by Obama is just so much political rhetric.

How anyone can honestly believe Obama is a change from the same old political games is beyond me. He said his association with Rezko was a 'dumb' decision, that he didn't know Wright was a rascist, that he wasn't putting down small town workers, that he wants a bipartisan administration. He was voted "Most Liberal Senator" title last year, he wants gun controls, made a deal with Rezko even while knowing Rezko was under investigation for corruption, lied about not knowing Wright's agenda, and told a liberal San Francisco audience what they wanted to hear about rural 'hicks'. He told Judicial Watch he had no records from his term in the Illinois legislature and is using a Madison Avenue slogan 'Change We Can believe In' to try to get in the White House. He comes from a wealthy Hawaiian family even though he tries to portray himself as one of the downtrodden. 100 years ago he would have been called a snake oil salesman.

In the 2004 primary election, Howard Dean won Vermont with almost 60% of the vote. After he'd already lost.

Clinton keeps saying no Democrat has won the White House without winning West Virginia since 1916. This is true.

What she fails to mention is that you can win West Virginia and go on to lose the White House.

Four previous Democratic candidates for the presidency have won West Virginia in the general election and lost the White House: Adlai Stevenson (1952), Hubert Humphries (1968), Jimmy Carter (1980) and Mike Dukakis (1988).

Missouri is the bellwether state, voting for the winner of the presidency since 1904, except in 1956. Obama won Missouri.

Like Jay Leno said last night, maybe she can become the president of West Virginia.

Hillary got it right last night. Since 1916 Every Democrat who won the Presidency won West Virginia. Obama just lost West Virginia and the Presidency. Vote for Hillary or McCain never Obama.

Hillary sounded like and looked Presidential last night in her speech.
Obama fell flat on his face last night answering questions at the factory in Missouri. Obama rambled on and on boring them to death and he threw in some hmms and uhhs too. He quoted Hillary's proposals word for word. He did not connect to the working-class voters period and Obama will not connect with them in the general election either. He was not energetic he was just as bored as the people listening to him. Obama is truly weak, uninspiring and pathetic. This is Obama when he is faced with questions by the people and in debates. No wonder he is a big chicken to do any more debates.
I agree with other posters here. Obama is an empty suit for the people with no experiences, false promises, with more corrupt, criminal, unethical and immoral associates than any other candidate in the running for President. Perhaps that is why the La Times reported on April 27th that Obama had laundered $112,000 thru his Law Firm he received Robert Blackwell. In return Blackwell received political favors and $320,000 in Illinois State Grants. Blackwell then donated thousands of dollars to Obama’s campaign. This is just one example. Here a few more NAFTA gate with Canada, FARC and Hamas deals and millions of dollars bundled by George Soros under investigation for several counts of money laundering. Birds of a feather flock together. Quick Obama here come the Cops. “Here comes the judge, here comes the judge, here comes the judge”. What a great line by Sammy Davis Junior on Laugh In. Vote for Hillary or McCain never vote for Obama.

Lisa, you're just full of misinformation. Clinton, Dodd, and Gravel were on the Michigan ballot.

Posted by: HoosierSue | May 14, 2008 10:01:19 AM

Just for the record, Obama did run campaign ads in Florida after pledging not to do so.

And his name was on the ballot in Michigan and he chose to take it off.

And Hillary and the DNC agreed to re-votes in FL and MI - completely paid for - but Obama called in his team of lawyers and put a halt to it.

So how are the votes as they stand unfair in a razor thin primary race where the weaker of the two candidates is apparently to be nominated because the voters of these two states (which we need to win in the GE) are being ignored and dismissed?

The overwhelming victory for Senator Hillary Clinton last night is BECAUSE the public has seen enough of Barack Obama and his untruths. Last night, Obama put on a “flag pin” after he said he would not wear it, “my actions will show my patriotism, and I will not wear the pin” and he flew over the state that was overwhelming voting for Hillary, in a landslide, to talk with some young students to convince them to vote for him. His strategy has become clear. He has a scare tactic for the young college students and he offers “hope” and “change”. We all know that there are problems to be solved. The bulk of the United States hard working families, middleclass Americans have seen the light and know that more than “hope” is needed to fix our problems. We need actions and results. We need an experienced person in the White House. We need someone that speaks from the heart and doesn’t “change” the game plan every other day (the flag pin is a good example because it just happened yesterday). I’m sure that someone on Obama campaign said wear the “darn” pin and after the election you can throw it into the wastepaper basket. The Rev. Wright, the statements and the statements about the hardworking Americans clinging to their religions because they are bitter ALL CAME OUT after Super Tuesday. This man has been found out and America is coming forth to tell you Democrats Superdelegates its over for your party, and “come November” we will either cast our vote for Hillary Clinton or John McCain.

I'm glad Hillary has integrity. The fact that Obama takes $200 Million from George Soros, the corrupt media "giant" and help from moveon.org shows obama's lack of integrity and character. obama is owned by people with money. Clinton is OWNED by the AMerican People. I like it that way. Hillary won WV and all the swing states so far. People in those swing states will not vote for Obama in the general. So, there you have it - obama cannot be the dem nominee or the dems will lose. And don't give me stuff about obama changing the electoral map! Red caucus states don't count. He cheated in the caucuses and people don't vote in caucuses in the general. Bye obama and THANK GOD for WEST VIRGINIA!

The republicans spent very little money on campaigning. If Mc Cain were to run through the Democrat party, he would have been out of the race long time ago more than broke. The dems and their rules somehow allow that kind of manipulations and it's not that OB handles his money better, it's that he outspends HC a lot and the financial machine behinds him allows him that kind of things. I would not use money as a criteria.

to Jill,
go to "Clinton Chair praises Fox news..." and read the comments, some of them are pretty good and explain well about the media bias.
I think the voters have to do a great job by holding to their choice of Hillary Clinton because the media and a lot of financial interest at stake will try to prevent her from being the nominee.
The interests of the voters do not always meet with the ones of the machine power behind the parties.
As the boss of a big hedge fund company that has just collapsed a month ago, told a friend who worked for him, that he supports OB because he is "plastic, one can do what one wants with him".
There was an article in the Herald Tribune some days ago that analyzed well the fact that billionnaire hedge fund bosses rather support OB because he is new , and one with money can still get his place in the circle, whereas with the Clintons, they already have their connections. That's what they mean by change in politics. New people, new connections, new share of power. That's what they have been trying to sell to the voters, "hope and change". That's why Kennedy, Kerry, and others who support OB, because through him they can get to the top.
I would compare him with Bush, because Bush is the man of the republican machine. So is OB for the moment, the man of some wing of the Democrat party that tries to take over. The media is pretty much bought out. They look out for their own interests and mock the voters who still have their say. They want to seal this nomination fast, to prevent Hillary to make her point to the convention.
It's up to the voters to be loud enough by their votes to make their point of supporting their candidate.
Democracy is a struggle, and the people learn their freedom through their vote.

Thank-you West Virginia...

You saw through the worshiping, the swooning, the empty promises, and the lame excuses.

The hard-working people of WV can spot a phony from a mile away.

You spoke for all the Hillary supporters last night.

Go Hillary or McCain...never Obama

Clinton has a strong argument that she'd do better in the key states in the fall vs. McCain. She won the base Dem states of NY and CA and MA...and she won all those crucial swing states. Obama won an array of states, mostly ones that will go to the Republicans in any case. Clinton is the real leader in this race.

Thank you West Virginia. Message to Dean -NOBAMA.

We will write Hillary on our ballots in NOV! NO votes for ANY Dem.
THE END.

"Obama was not even on the ballot in Michigan"

NOBAMA TOOK HIS NAME OFF THE BALLOT! AND HE DID IT ON PURPOSE!

@maryintampa...
that's what the ol chicago-style, under-the-table politics is about. as i have said in earlier posts and dates, i bet a lot of people who voted for obama could change their minds now that the truth has come out and he has been exposed for what he really is.
and this i wonder as well, how are the 'super delegates' any better than any of the rest of us by having the right to change their minds, switch sides, etc., when the average american voter can't? i'm sure things would be a lot different if the 'average' person could have the opportunity to go back and re-vote. clinton would have it all by a landslide.

Google Alice Palmer Barack Obama Chicago Tribune and read how Obama got every one of his opponents removed from the ballot in Illinois so he could run unopposed in 1996. He also got the divorce and custody records of his opponents unsealed in 2004 which created scandals for them and got them out of the race. Again to run virtually unopposed.Add that to Wright Rezko and Ayers and the other names that keep popping up and I think ethics take a real backseat for Obama.

ditto that!!! with the right running mate she would clean up! after the way she has been treated through this primary, she really owes the democratic party NOTHING.
i would love it!
