NC, Indiana, and Clinton's New Math

May 06, 2008 8:04 PM

Obama projected to win North Carolina. Still waiting to hear about Indiana, where Sen. Hillary Clinton leads in returns so far.

HERE'S THE WORLD NEWS STORY we did tonight.

Of perhaps the most significance -- Sen. Clinton's new delegate math, which suggests she may take this fight all the way to the Democratic convention in August.

mpwdc: What in the world are you saying? No one has the right to run for president but Hillary? I guess John Edwards was trying to destroy the democratic party too.

People such as yourself who are willing to vote for a person in another party rather than someone who supports liberal ideas will destroy the party.

The media has split the party. They turned this election season into an episode of Jerry Springer rather than focus on issues that actually mattered.

Obama is not racist. In fact, he is probably the most un-racist candidate this country has ever had. He sees goodness in all people. He understands how whites feel about issues. He also understands how strongly some blacks feel about issues (probably from listening to Rev. Wright). That doesn't mean that he agrees--but he understands. It is easier to work with people when you understand them. White people typically don't really understand how blacks feel about the world. They have no earthly idea.

Black people will support whichever democratic candidate gets the nominee..but whites will not. True, we favor Obama. True, a lot of people are upset with Hillary and some of the lies she's told and attacks she's made during this election. However, she sure is a hell of a lot better than the guy in office right now.

I prefer Obama because of his Dale Carnegie approach to life--but I will take anybody. I WANT CHANGE!

Justme: How can you call Obama someone who "unites" when he chose to run this election cycle against the best woman candidate that we've ever had? His candidacy has SPLIT the Democrats right down the middle. If ANYONE thinks this Party is coming back together after August..no matter who the nominee is...they are wrong. The Party is cooked and McCain will be elected in November.I will never vote for Obama, the face of inexperience and unanswered questions. He is the "spoiler" of 2008.

Posted by: mpwdc | May 7, 2008 9:45:36 PM

What the Democratic Party has done and is doing to the Clintons is shameful. The superdelegates were put into place for just this type of situation: to make sure the Party puts up the best person to challenge the opponent. The Party votes are split almost 50-50. The supers are saying they can't do their job because they can't take the nomination away from the African-American and the Black supporters of his candidacy? Not all Blacks support Obama. What about the half of the Party that supports Clinton? What about former Obama supporters that have changed their minds? What about voters in Florida and Michigan? For the Democratic Party to ignore the fact that Hillary Clinton is the most seasoned and vetted candidate, that Hillary Clinton has served her Party well for 30 plus years, that Hillary Clinton has a very limited number of years left to endure the rigors of the Presidency, that she is the candidate who can best stand up to John McCain in November, that Hillary Clinton has as much if not more of the voters behind her, then the Democrativc Party is stupid. I will not vote for Obama, the face of inexperience and unanswered questions.

Posted by: mpwdc | May 7, 2008 9:40:36 PM

The basic problem with Hillary is not her pathetic denial of math and economics, but her evident inability to beat McCain even if she would manage to con the nomination. The case is that not only herself, but some brain-washed voters either are confusing being a fighter and being a b..ch.
Being a fighter means to be ready to sacrifice your dearest personal things like your life or health to win, and Hillary is ready to sacrifice just her voters' money and her party's election success, nothing personal. Being a b..ch means to say or do anything to destroy somebody (what she is consistently doing).
Therefore, b..ches can only deal with good guys like Obama who tries to show "some constraints" when competing with his party fellow. But they, b..ches, have no chance against a real fighter, with no ever constraints, like the older outgoing soldier McCain who already made real personal sacrifices in Vietnam war. Although he was not under sniper fire in Bosnia, but survived 5 years in Vietnam POW camps, let alone being under actual fire over there.

Just recall him joking, with no actual reason, but for fun: Why is Chelsea so ugly? Indeed, if a real competition starts, all Clintons' dirty laundry of 90s, let alone recent developments (like the pending lawsuit in Los Angeles), would be brought to the daylight and put on Hillary, and she would have to go into such a deep defensive position, unless somewhere deeper, that she would not get any chance to even show her ability, much less to have it, for real fighting. Her only real experience is just a huge baggage of scandals brought from the past.

Republicans dream to have her as an opponent in November so that even Mr. Rove is now explaining to Democratic
superdelegates (fortunately, they are not those less educated older folks like her habitual voters) on 10 reasons why they should prefer her to Obama. Therefore, voting for Hillary now is like voting for McCain (no surprise, he supports her like they are a team), so think again who you would wish for President.

Here is a brief list of those people who are now actively supporting Hillary Clinton’s candidacy: Pat Buchanan, a charming man slightly to the right of Genghis Khan; Rush Limbaugh, the most voluble and incendiary of right-wing talk-show hosts; Richard Mellon Scaife, the media mogul who financed the virulently antiClinton crusades of the 1990s; and, if you read between the lines, even Karl Rove, the “architect” of the past decade or so of Republican dominance in electoral politics.

eyes wide open said "I only have four friends who are Black and their votes are split, and that's OK because they didn't cling to him like lemmings; they thought it through."

You only have 4 black friends. Dang. So, did the 2 who went for him cling???

Well, I have over a hundred black friends, and they didn't stick to Obama because of his race. They read his book, Dreams of My Father, they listened to him speak, they listened to Hillary (and Bill). Some researched the Clinton presidency (like me). What it really boils down to is this...Clinton represents old politics and old ways of doing things. She is a career politician who is looking for a promotion. She ran for the senate to get to the white house.

Obama ran for the senate to represent the people of Illinois.

Most black people would not vote for Condi Rice. Colin Powell might have problems drawing black support. Black people would not vote for Al Sharpton. We would not elect 'P. Diddy.' You see, black people want the economy to improve as well. We are not going to just stick any old black person into the white house. Obama has credentials and A LOT of white Americans, Asian Americans, and Latino Americans realize this!!! He LISTENS. He EXPLAINS. He knows how to WORK WITH PEOPLE. He THINKS, logically. He INSPIRES and UNITES. Those characteristics alone could solve half of our current troubles in this great nation.

Posted by: Justme | May 6, 2008 10:31:46 PM

jkan<<<< no he won with white votes as well you don't get that far with out all the people of this country and if you think only blacks voted for him you are mistakend

The big thing for her wll be money suppose she will lend herself more.No one is giving a looser money....
Oh yeah she is dirty and so is Billy deadly is more like it.Scary couple who what power so bad they stoop to anything to get there.

"Not to take anything away from Obama's win in NC, but with African-Americans making up 40 % of the Dems and voting for him 92% of the time, Hillary did very well. He was up by 25 points or so, so she closed the gap well."

Hillary should take this all the way To August.

Posted by: Jkan | May 6, 2008 10:16:34 PM

Different math is required.

Jon Stewart is right. Hillary will be standing at the Inauguration in 2009 running for the Democratic nomination.

Pundits, political operatives, and the rest...what will you smear Obama with that will make people stop voting for him? You had the flag pin, bitter/cling comment, and pulled out a racial boogie man.

What are you going to do with 6 months of time? You pulled out race bait like a Willie Horton type ad for Louisiana, Mississippi, and North Carolina. The Democrat won in LA. Where are you going with this?

Posted by: Genna | May 6, 2008 10:08:10 PM

jgaw:

You;ve been terrific.... and not just because you've been for Hillary.

Your posts have been sensitive and thoughtful, and I understand how a lot of Blacks would want to cheer for one of their own.....and let's face it, in the beginning Obama came across as an uplifting mesmerizing speaker....

But I only have four friends who are Black and their votes are split,,, and that's OK because they didn't cling to him like lemmings; they thought it through.

Ninety-one percent though..... and nine-ty percent in Philadelphia?

I don't have an argument with them,

I definitely have one with the press which provided him so much free time and praise..... The Race speech, and then the Down With My Pastor speech..... and Jake's page and a half preface to his blog about Jeremiah....

This Sunday the Chicago Tribune had a Comic Strip with Obama as the star.... in color! in addition to a story on page one!

What about equal time!
What about fair?

What about Women's Rights?

What about the stupid DNC!

I'm still going to vote for Hillary,
G-d willing.
Obama will never get my vote.

Posted by: eyes wide open | May 6, 2008 10:02:55 PM

People keep making this a racial race...so, there are more white women in this country than black people (men, women, boys, and girls)..but no one mentions that Hillary might be riding the wave of feminism that started in the early 1900's. She makes women feel proud and empowered. She's got those nice pant suits. Her hair looks nice. She's not afraid to obliterate Iran-so, she's tough like a man...and she's always smiling. Her supporters don't think that she can possibly be lying because she's always smiling. Smiling and lying.

Obama hasn't run as negative a campaign against her as he could have. If she wins, the Republican party will 'obliterate' her. She has been involved in so many scandals...she is a professional liar. They haven't started attacking her yet (because they hope she wins), but boy if she does! Just wait....

Posted by: Justme | May 6, 2008 9:57:18 PM

America must understand voting for a person because he or she is the race as you as a reason is not how we should pratice our freedom. Bill Clinton did get most of the Black votes when he ran. We all should vote with our conscience it instead of our past experience. Nevertheless, practice our freedom and vote. Let's hope the out come of this election will bring peace and prosperity to our homeland ( United States of America).

God Blesses America!!!!!!!!

Not to take anything away from Obama's win in NC, but with African-Americans making up 40 % of the Dems and voting for him 92% of the time, Hillary did very well. He was up by 25 points or so, so she closed the gap well. On the otherhand, it was up for grabs in Indiana, which neighbors Obama's home state of Illinois and was a very competitive fight. It appears she will have an excellent win there. Whichever way the delegates go in FLA and MI, I hope they will be counted, because they are so critical to determining the nominee and winning the general.

Posted by: hopesprings52 | May 6, 2008 9:44:14 PM

@jgaw: I am with you 100%! I will either write in Hillary's name or cast my vote for John McCain in the general election if Obama wins the nom. No way will I support Obama, a man who is unfit in every way, to be POTUS. That vote will be the last thing I do as a Democrat because I then plan to change party affiliations to Independent. As Ronald Reagan once said, "I didn't leave the Democrat Party, the Democrat Party left me." I never thought I would be able to quote Reagan on anything, but on this issue, I am in total agreement with him.

Thinking....

Talking about percentages of of voters... how about ninety-one per cent
(91%) of ALL voting African Americans in North Carolina voting for Obama?

And how about the power of the internet and fourth estate to forward the candidacy of an empty suit like him no matter WHAT his color?

It's like the way the Republicans cultivated the barely lucid malapropping Bush!

We need better.

Posted by: questioner | May 6, 2008 9:41:02 PM

I am a white lower-middle class female Democrat and I voted for Obama. I just wish the rest of my state of TN would have done the same but unfortunately many cannot see past their racist bias...lying doesn't seem to matter here. Politicians are elected in TN regardless of lies, hideous immoral/unethical activities and even failure to pay income taxes. Am happy to see NC voted for the BEST person. Hopefully Indiana will not be blindsided by another phoney Clinton and also come through for Obama. Remember NAFTA?? Good grief, how can ANYONE think a Clinton is for the working class!!!!!

Posted by: Lasandra | May 6, 2008 9:38:41 PM

Hillary has every right to carry on. If her belief is that she can best McCain and the recent polls show that, plus she won the key states, why should she hand the nomination over to Obama? In the Fall Obama has zero chance to take very inportant Florida against McCain and Hillary did better in the swing states of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas. She will probably win most of the remaining states, and now that North Carolina, where Obama was a shoe in anyway, is history. why the heck should she not stay in. We see that Obama' negative campaigning is effective but as more is being learned about his judgement he may just fade.

Posted by: bruce | May 6, 2008 9:34:17 PM

just for the record, this black voters will be sitting the ge out. A lot of aa realize that this election should not have been made about race. the race conversation should come up after sen. clinton was president and helped solve what we all are already united in
THIS GOING DOWN THE DRAIN ECONOMY
sen. clinton has shown she is the more capable candidate for president.
the way I see it. it is unpatriotic
for our country to be in the shape it is in-and for anyone to vote for the anyone except the most capable candidate to lead this country.
this was NOT the year to elect anyone for anyother reason except he/she is the most capable. that would be sen. clinton.
the world will not care about us electing a black president-the world wants to know american is going to be able to step up the the plate and do what it is known for doing. after you know wwwwho.-we need a strong candidate,a fighter-sen. clinton.
sen. clinton has set the lead in this all along-obama has only copies.
shame on the dem. party. for not working to do the very best for this country. EVERYONE, and i mean EVERYONE,
clinton haters and all-KNOWS SHE IS THE SMARTER OF THE THREE.
so to keep sen.clinton out-you ar doing a disservice to this country.
everyone who hates sen. clinton-hates her for every reason-except the right reasons. and you have done this country a disservice.

Posted by: jgaw | May 6, 2008 9:32:38 PM

Either one, either way the solcialist party will not win in November

Posted by: scott | May 6, 2008 9:25:59 PM

Mic, just for the record, Bill Clinton did NOT pardon Ayers. (All charges were dropped against Ayers so there was no need for any pardon.) Clinton pardoned two different Weatherman members, Linda Sue Evans and Susan Rosenberg.

Posted by: Tom J | May 6, 2008 9:16:34 PM

Explain this?

Thirty-six percent of primary voters said that Clinton does not share their values. And yet, among that total, one out of every five (20 percent) nevertheless voted for her in the Indiana election. Moreover, of the 10 percent of Hoosiers who said "neither candidate" shared their values, 75 percent cast their ballots for Clinton.

These are not small numbers. By comparison, of the 33 percent of voters who said Sen. Barack Obama does not share their values, only seven percent cast their ballots in his favor. Basically, more people who don't relate to Clinton are, for one reason or another, still voting for her. These are not likely to be loyal supporters.

Posted by: Thinking | May 6, 2008 9:15:29 PM

Any anyone expected Clinton to leave when she still owes soooo mcuh money? If she quits now she would have to pay all those bills LOL By staying in she get the idiots to send her more money when the states coming up won't help her. ABC adding in FL and MI to their tallies helps her too but just like the Clinton camp then exclude the caucus votes in the popular vote LOL Like they don't matter. What total creeps ABC has turned out to be.

Posted by: Brian | May 6, 2008 9:12:21 PM

The media needs to be more balanced in their coverage of both Clinton and Obama. They covered at great lengths Rev. Wright. Where is the vetting of Clinton on NAFTA. Why do they keep talking about outspending when they won't talk about Obama having to run against BOTH Hillary and the ex-president. The white working class appears to want to vote for the very people who pushed through NAFTA which caused them a significant % of their jobs. The media keeps listening to rhetoric about Ayers being on the same board as Obama but they won't set the record straight that President Clinton pardoned Ayers. Does the white working class know these facts and would they still vote the same anyway?

Posted by: Mic | May 6, 2008 8:57:45 PM

Please, please, please, Hillary, stop changing the rules as you go. You are tearing the Democratic party apart the longer this goes on. You are helping to get McCain elected. Can you not see this?? I am sure you can't because your ego and Bill's desire to be in the White House for his third term hinder your ability to think clearly.

Posted by: Jordan | May 6, 2008 8:54:41 PM

OBAMA / CLINTON '08

Get used to it. It's coming soon to a Democratic Party near you.

90% plus Blacks are voting for Obama and call the rest of America as racists... They have no reason to blame why they get discriminated now.

Well done Blacks.

All the way to the convention with Hillary. Time will cause Obama to implode. Hillary '08!

Posted by: Texas Lil | May 6, 2008 8:47:20 PM

How many people voted early in NC before the Rev. Wright issue became big? I went to the polls in NC today and talked with dozens of people that all voted for Hillary, many said they changed their votes because of the black radical church he belongs to and because he has lied about the relationship he has with this church. Yet the News media have not even looked at the numbers that show a 52% swing toward those that voted today verses several weeks ago. Interesting how the media can change the information. Obama will be the candidate and I will vote for McCain now.

Posted by: Anne | May 6, 2008 8:43:15 PM

What experience does Hillary have? Very little. She walked her way into a Senate seat when a close friend retired - and she's been a mediocre senator ever since. Without Bill, she has almost no credentials. Let's remember, we're not electing Bill to a third term here.
We'd see 4 yrs of Bush I, followed by 8 years of Clinton I, then 8 years of Bush II - and you're thinking 4-8 yrs of Clinton II? 25-30 years of 2 families? That sounds like a story out of Pakistan - not the US. It's time to move on!

Posted by: Kevin Garner | May 6, 2008 8:41:23 PM

She's lost many times before, but she's picked herself up way better than any other candidate in this race. It's not over til it's over. people should just remember that!

Wrong on Gas Tax
Wrong on Iran
Wrong on OPEC
Wrong on new math

Posted by: Thinking | May 6, 2008 8:35:40 PM

...and to say its not a racial vote. Gimme me a break. Obama has hijacked these elections by securing the black vote. White middle-class democrats will abandon the party in November in droves. Mark my word : McCain has been handed the presidency on a silver platter.

Posted by: Paulus | May 6, 2008 8:34:24 PM

very good point CAvemandave....

she'll say and do anything for a vote.
lok at her new math.

futhermore why was she telling us about a gas tax she wants to put in place when she'll be on the campaign trail....oh please...that bill would have to be in congress already about to be passed.

she just play at people worries and pandering for a vote with an empty solution.

??? what is experience if people don't think u r trustworthy???

do we need a president like that???

The Clinton regime has way more tricks coming....just you watch.

They're like the dog that just doesn't know when to roll over and give up, it'll be a fight to the death of the Democratic Party and the Clintons will go down in history as the 2nd worse family dynasty in the history of this fine country...second only behind the Bushs.

Posted by: dennis | May 6, 2008 8:19:12 PM

Yes thinking, she was Wright on one thing for sure. She knew which church to stay away from. She is the 1st candidate of either party to receive 15 million popular votes thus far across the county....now are you right on anything?

Posted by: shalabalaboo | May 6, 2008 8:19:05 PM

Clinton sinks lower and lower as she baits her elderly, racist republican electorate.

ZERO chance to win.

OBAMA has it.
