Official Transcript: Kantor Never Impugned Hoosiers
May 02, 2008 6:18 PM
Forgoing for a moment the dirty trick of the doctored clip from “The War Room,” which falsely had Mickey Kantor using a racial slur, the filmmaker behind the documentary has posted the clip on his Web site to clarify that other point of confusion -- what Kantor was referring to when he cursed. (An apparent source of confusion since the movie came out and some newspaper writers thought he was cursing Indianans. See previous post for that.)
Filmmakers Chris Hegedus and D A Pennebaker write: "We would like to respond to some erroneous statements made today about our film, THE WAR ROOM. These statements alleged certain remarks to Mickey Kantor that simply are not true. The transcript of the scene in question confirms this."
The official transcript:
GEORGE AND CARVILLE: Indiana, we're ahead.
JACQUELINE: Indiana!
GEORGE: Kentucky.
CARVILLE: Kentucky is five. Michigan is eleven, New York's done.
GEORGE: Holy s---, we're pulling away in Ohio.
CARVILLE: Oklahoma we're up.
GEORGE: Tied in Texas.
CARVILLE: Tied in Texas. It looks good. Now let's just say that. I like the text here.
GEORGE: Can you beep Wendy please? Looks pretty good. Looks pretty good.
MICKEY KANTOR: Look at Indiana. Wait, wait. Look at Indiana. Forty-two, forty. It doesn't matter if we win. Those people are s----ing (oh, excuse me) in the White House. How would you like to be... Look at Texas, go down to Texas.
CARVILLE: Even.
MICKEY: Yeah. Thirty-nine, thirty-nine.
CARVILLE: Perot's kind of holding, isn't he?
GEORGE: He held.
MICKEY: Yeah, he held. His numbers held. I'm sort of surprised, frankly.
***
So Kantor was NOT insulting Hoosiers, he was experiencing a moment of schadenfreude about the Bush (Sr.) White House.
Check it out HERE.
Now back to that other question -- who did the fake clip with Kantor saying the N word?!
It's the definition of a dirty trick -- and from what I can tell all the YouTube links have disappeared. Fingerprints gone.

Reading these comments it is clear that we still have a race problem in this country. It is truly sad how the media has continued to keep this thing alive by attacking Senator Obama. What is even sadder is that many Americans are too ignorant or simply too racist to see through it.
I can't believe that when this video came out it wasn't plastered all over the airwaves like the Rev. Wright video. Doctored or not, nobody questioned the authenticity of the Wright video before airing it many times a day.
Its pretty obvious to me that "news" organizations have the same agenda as old Rush.

Reading these comments I've learned that Obama supporters are BITTER and cling to their "hope" to unify the country and change the whole wide world by being remarkably snarky and somewhat delusional.I find it almost IMPOSSIBLE to believe that if the "enhanced" dialouge had actually appeared in the War Room that the vast right wing conspiracy Clinton haters wouldn't have picked it up and broadcast it from the rooftops a DECADE ago.Call me incredulous. It's the audacity of get over yourselves

Even when the press claims to take the "high road" they won't even focus on the "issues" because it doesn't fit their political agenda. How about exposing Kantor for the WTO lobbyist that he is. I think we can all see what Clinton's stance is on outsourcing.
How about these facts:
An advocate of free trade, Kantor, as Trade Representative, lead U.S. negotiations that created the World Trade Organization (WTO), such as the Uruguay Round, and North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). He also engaged in organizating the Miami Summit of the Americas and three meetings of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, including the U.S.-hosted First Leaders' Meeting. With the European Commission of the newly formed European Union, he expanded the trans-Atlantic market.

Who would have thought that in this day and age with all that has passed and with hope for change on the horizon that we will all be back to politics as usual as soon as the supers put their stamp on this thing? Another Reconstruction failed. Sad...just plain sad.

I get a kick out of all of you who ASSUME this video is a fake just because the networks aren't giving it air time.
I didn't see any of you questioning the authenticity of the Wright video when FOX and CNN played it over and over to buy their candidate some cred.
'Furthermore, the director of The War Room, D.A. Pennebaker, also says the clip was doctored, but added as an update to that Politico piece, they say they spoke to the editor of the video who said that he "enhanced, BUT DIDN'T ALTER, the audio in the second portion of the video."'
UH, OH!!!

Libby,
I know you represent the typical racist Clinton supporter. Clinton has been fueling the flames of hate with her appeals to "blue collar" dems. We all know that she and Bill really mean bigoted, ignorant, economically challenged white dems.
I hope you enjoy your "white pride" candidate after the supers put their stamp on it.
We'll all continue to suffer when McCain steps into the White House.

I favor severely punishing the oil companies with excess profits taxes (any profit is excess)for two reasons:
1. America has too much oil and gasoline
2. People who have oil companies in their 401Ks deserve the hit.

@Kirk. That's the same interpretation. He was talking about the pollsters. Bush had pollsters. Each campaign has pollsters. The Clintons had Greenberg, and the Bushes? This Black guy. That's the guy they say must be "sh--ing."
I won't speculate where it came from. I hope not indirectly from Obama's camp. Maybe Drudge? Politico? Could it be Republicans, trying to spread ill will among Democrats? Who knows? I wish our media wouldn't fall for any story that doesn't explain the context. They fell for the phony "Dean scream" story four years ago, remember? A week after they play patty-cake with the story, somebody -- maybe it was Nightline, back when it had a conscience -- showed us how it was a microphone that eliminated all the screams of the audience and made Dean's screams sound crazy.
Maybe we should go back to the old regime: networks can't make money out of news, but if they don't put on enough high-quality news, they lose their licenses?

Yup, Change You Can Believe In.
Indeed.

Kantor didn't slur Indiana. It's CARVILLE that thinks Democratic voters are stupid... Carville alone is enough to keep me from supporting Hillary.

Race card? Check
Dirty tricks? Check
Insane supporters? Check
Viral spread w/o fact-checking? Check
Yup, same old drama from Obama.
His mere presence elevates this election season. Except, you know, NOT.

This is not the Obama camp playing the race card. This is the Republicans trying to break the Democratic party apart. Helloooo?
Democrats Unite!

Plain and simple--the alleged transcript you printed CLEARLY does not match the video. The word worthless is plain and audible but does not appear in the text provided.
Why are you people taking their word for this when even a little digging would unveil at least part of the lies?
Posted by: Roger Deem | May 3, 2008 6:35:08 PM
Obama has played the race card from day one.
Posted by: brent22202 | May 3, 2008 3:10:58 PM
This is trash. But I am more troubled by the declaration of someone's interpretation of a not so clear audio recording as "official transcript". Jake, do you have a dog in this fight?
Posted by: Independent Guy | May 3, 2008 2:07:37 PM
I have a hard time believing that it's Hillary supporters and not the usual Freepers that are spamming every mention of this story with allegations that the Obama campaign was somehow involved. It's been a tough fight but we're all Dems and the Dems I know aren't like that. This is a NON-story and a distraction. What we've learned is that people are easily tricked by video. I saw it Friday morning and thought "I can't believe he said that". I can even admit the darker parts of my soul hoped that Hillary would be harmed because I'm just so eager to get the attention on neocon John. But this stuff is just the kind of guilt by association garbage that's preventing us from facing our nation's real challenges. Within a few hours, anyway, it was exposed as doctored video. The only thing I'm left wondering about is the ellipsis in the transcript, but this is not an important issue and it barely deserves mentioning.

I suppose the media thinks we are all so stupid as to believe the Clinton spin department. Who are you going to believe, the spin doctors or your own eyes and ears?
THE STANDARD DEFENSE LINE FROM EVERY SCOUNDREL IS "WHAT I SAID WAS TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT".

I want to thank Bush for my tax rebate check. I am endorsing it over to Obama immediately. That will be the surest and most effective way to improve the economy, Iraq, and health care.
Posted by: clary3 | May 3, 2008 11:05:48 AM
I'm sure some Obamabot did this, thinking it would change the subject. It didn't--it just highlights the obvious: Obama is not ushering in a new sort of politics. He and his followers are more of the same. They are not transcending our divisions, but exacerbating them.
Obama's left-wing voting record, bitter/cling comments and wacky pastor have totally alienated the right, so he is particularly ill-suited to deliver on a promise of post-partisan politics.
Someone remind me please--what does he really stand for and how specifically will he effect change?

To Dave:
Do you represent the typical Obama supporter?? You still insist it is true when everyone under the sun, including people who have run the video through forensic accoustics, have confirmed that the second clip was doctored.
WOW you are way out there in orbit.
