Rupert Murdoch Effuses Praise for…Barack Obama?
May 29, 2008 11:50 AM
At the Wall Street Journal's "D: All Things Digital" conference, Rupert Murdoch, chairman and CEO of News Corporation -- owner of Fox News Channel, and the New York Post, among other platforms many consider conservative -- was practically gushing about ….liberal Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois.
"He's become a rock star, it's fantastic," Murdoch said.
(Watch video excerpts HERE and HERE.)
Murdoch said Republicans were in for a tough time this November. "You've got the Obama phenomenon; you've got undoubtedly a recession," he said.
As for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., Murdoch said McCain has "been in Congress a long time" which means he's made "too many compromises. So, what's he really stand for? He's a patriot, he's a friend of mine, a very decent guy, I think he has -- and I say this sympathetically -- I think he has a lot of problems."
Asked point-blank if he had anything to with the New York Post endorsing Obama in the New York primary, Murdoch said, "yeah."
The Alley Insider also reports that Murdoch said, "I want to be convinced that Obama is the real thing, that he can really carry through. I'm open to that."
He said Obama "might not carry Florida, because the Jewish people are suspicious of him, and so are Hispanics... and while people won't talk about it, race will matter."
And Clinton supporter Hillary Rosen writes at the Huffington Post that Murdoch also said of Obama, "I don't think he will win Florida.....but he will win in Ohio and the election" plus "I am anxious to meet him" and "I want to see if he will walk the walk."
What the heck…?

Is it about his very liberal son James whom Murdoch made his successor last December?

Murdoch knows that Obama will be profitable for his news organization, especially once his sordid past and shady characters trickle out during his administration. He's going to make Bill Clinton look like scrooge when it comes to juicy details that could make Obama's adminstration really scandal-filled.

Remember when the "A-List" Obama blogs and their commenters went ballistic because Hillary went on Fox News?
They won't mention Fox owner Murdoch's endorsement of Obama, or if they do, it will be about praising what a wonderful uniter Obama is.

Ruppert Murdoch,
Always sucks up to power!
He tried to take Obama down and failed!
To the person claiming that Murdoch wanted Obama to win becuase his daughter held a fund raiser for him needs to do some reaserch Murdoch held a fundraiser for Clinton and McCain google it.
The 44th POTUS will be Barack Obama!
Rupert Murdoch is sucking up now because he knows the result!!

Sir Rupert?
This has passed beyond comedy into the realm of bufoonery. So you want the guy who did the most to turn journalism into escapism to pick the next leader of the free world based on being a 'rock star'? Crack really has ruined the minds of the 'more money than brains' club.
Vote for McCain or write in Clinton. Do not let these thugs turn America into Europe's Bargain Mall.

no one caresabout the the real estate deal...
Your comments of the London Times running those stories may answer the question why Murdoch realizes he should be backing obama (who now they all KNOW has the nomination...as much as Hillary supporters want to say they are going to mars tomorrow)
He tries a few tough stories ...just as Fox has released this entire primary to try and knock him out and nothing stuck because nothing is bad enough to knock this man out.
Murdoch knows he doesn't have to say these things for Obama to get the nomination...he's got it...there is no reason for this late timing of andorsement if this is what he wanted...
but he may realize the writing is on the wall that Obama is going to be the next President because all Foxnews and the rest have not been able to get him to tumble...and McCain doesn't have close to the cards that Hillary had ion the primaries.

Beware, Murdock speaks with forked tongue. H eis also owner Of London Times, the only newspaper that has really delved in and criticized the Obama/Rezko/Auchi connection. rumor is that he wants Obama to knock out Hillary, who is the only candidate he cannot control. After Obama does that, Murdock will weasel a way to can Obama. Just watch.
"Over the past week, the real news is that London has launched its attack on Obama, in a number of news stories, typified by the Feb. 26 London Times story by James Bone and Dominic Kennedy, headlined "Mansion 'Mistake' Piles the Pressure on Barack Obama." London, typified by Times owner Rupert Murdoch, has the file on Obama, and it has signaled that it is ready to pull the plug on him—but only after Obama has completed his final assignment: the elimination of Hillary Clinton from the Democratic Party Presidential race. Then, all hell will break loose."

and Mary we would not want someone with a circle as small as yours running for President...
all the candidates have relationships with "shady people"
it is stupid to think they could be public figures who actually have met and interacted with the vast varying points of view (and yes sometimes criminal) and not had one or two relationships with people with characters that can come into question.
Hillary has the largest amount of questionable relationships but this election isn't about that or else Hillary would definitively have lost a long time ago...with mcCain running second and obama having the fewest...but again it is not about that and if you are not voting for Obama because of those issues...you need to look closer at the other twos histories...
anyone who has actually gone out and tried to meet and interact with people's from differing backgrounds (what has always made America the greatest country in the world) ...is not going to have a life like yours.
and we shouldn't want them to.

I read all the comments here, and I am an independent.
I think, most of the Clinton supporters are just whining and complaining.
They come across as sore losers and they dont know how to quit. That is the main problem Hilary and her supporters face.
They dont know how to quit. Sore losers!!!

Anne--12;32--You are so right. Senator Obama's supporters have their head in the sand. It doesn't matter what wrong their god does, it it ok with them. He does not need to answer for distortions and outright lies. He learned well from his corrupt Chicago political machine.
Posted by: Martin | May 29, 2008 1:24:57 PM
Obama has not belittled anybody. That is just plain wrong.
Posted by: Mr. Coffee | May 29, 2008 1:24:34 PM
Sure, Mary. I believe you...
Posted by: Craig | May 29, 2008 1:19:18 PM
Craig: I do not have shady characters in my life. I have never even received a traffic ticket. I have never gone to a church that teaches racism and hate. I did not buy my home with the help of a criminal. I did not have a terrorist throw a party for me. I am just an educated retired woman with a wonderful family. I do not lie or use people like Obama has done. He is an inept for the position of president as an alley cat.

He is just selling news papers, but if he said it about Hillary she would be selling him.

On CNN last week, there was a discussion about wisdom. The authorities say that regardless of education, older people are more wise. Life experiences determine more than text book learning that is theory. So that means that 20 to 30 years from now those voting for the rock-star Obama will realize they made a mistake. Senator Obama has belittled and humilated older and working class people and they will vote Republican rather than for a Socialist/Marxist. Senator Obama maybe educated but not very wise. Murdock is not very wise on this election either. He thinks a guy who believes there are 57 USA states and he can see fallen heroes in his audience is presidential material. Obama is an empty suit with a dysfuntional mind.

We've been Had, folks
if Murdoch wanted the republicans to run against him ...and thought giving him praise directly would help ....don't you think he would have done it before he had the nomination sown up...
Perhaps it is that he realizes that this guy ...McCain can't beat. He's teflon.
Truth and trying to run and honorable campaign can help take you a long way to being teflon.
Unfortunately Hill and Bill never realized that. It's all about winning and not about the people. This whole "what Happened" book talks about the politics of a government run like it has the past 15 years...all about campaigning even when you are running the government...so it becomes about the candidate and not the country.

Ladies and Gentlemen, you are witnessing the death of politics as usually...
Ain't life GRAND!!!!
OBAMA 08
Posted by: Lawrence | May 29, 2008 12:59:34 PM
Ha. You guys have all been had. Of course Murdock is praising Obama.. he and the republicans would rather run against him. Again, we've been had and out strategized again.

Sorry people Obama has a message that is ringing out loud and clear. America needs and wants CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN. Why are some of you so hell bent on taking a negative outlook on this?
Bill and Hillary have been a household name for over 15 years and a guy named Barack Obama came out and is actually beating her at the game of politics.
There is one major difference he is not part of the "Good Ol' Boys Network". That is what makes Cbama have a chance to work on both sides of the aisle without a problem. Give him a chance and let America heal it's failing economy. Mc Clellan is telling it all and Mc Same is in it to be a 3rd Bush extension. NO WAY, Vote Obama 2008.

Anne and Mary, aside from the fact that Obama sat for three hours and answered every question from dozens of reporters from the two big Chicago newspapers about Rezko, I'd love to know who your candidate is so I can write a huge paragraph on their associations and transgressions. I guarantee that their associations are more dangerous to your pocketbook and way of life than Obama's. I bet you have some shady associations yourself. But it's ok, cuz you can hide behind your keyboard for cover. Cowards!!!

The love fest for BO at the unfair and unbalanced news network is pure BS...they so do not want to run AGAINST HILLARY. This is the next nail in her coffin, they have no interest in BO at all! Beware of the devil you know, Murdoch!

I can live with OBAMA maybe shutting a “deaf ear” to what his preacher taught him for some 20 years, probably because he believes the teachings but would never speak the philosophy to others because he knows it is radical. But it is really hard for me to believe that he never expected to payback or give Rezko anything in return for his generous gifts? His biggest fundraiser, personal real estate advisor. THIS MORNING it was announced that Antoin Rezko has been issued an arrest warrant for corruption-related charges by a Las Vegas judge for large gambling debts. This man was giving money to OBAMA like there was no tomorrow and it appears he had no money to give? Reason? Rezko told the federal judge in Illinois that he was $50 million in debt. Rezko besides giving mega bucks to OBAMA for his campaign, he bought the lot next to OBAMA’s home at a mere $650,000.00 to help OBAMA purchase the home. OBAMA knew well that his friend was under investigation for corruption LONG before he bought the house, which has been satisfactory proven in court, long before he accepted the money for his first Senator campaign. Never anything in return of any kind to Rezko, just accepted these as “gifts” because he is a “nice guy”. This should clearly tell you what OBAMA thinks of the average US citizen – gullible, easy to fool, naïve, he is fleecing America with his speeches.
Posted by: Anne | May 29, 2008 12:31:47 PM
Anyone supporting Senator OBama is supporting a Socialist/Marxist. His interest is not with the average American citizen but with the Hamas, PLO and other terrorist groups and individuals who lean away from moderate democratic ideals.
Say no to Obama.
Posted by: Mary | May 29, 2008 12:28:24 PM
Murdoch must like and knows O'bama can win that is why Bill O'Reilly was defending his show last night stating that he does not lean too far to the right unlike Hannity and Limbaugh. He was talking about how conservative shows are going to be "shut down" after this election...interesting...
Posted by: Joe Reed | May 29, 2008 12:19:20 PM
Now there's a valid reason for Obama to be president...he's a rock star.
That probably sums up why he gets all the young voters.
America is in big trouble...

If Murdoch is hedging his bets and openly complimenting Obama he must think there is a very real chance Obama will win this election. Murdoch likes to think he's a "king maker" but he likes even more to be on the winning side so he can try to call in the favors in the future. If Murdoch and his empire start backing Obama I think it's all over for Mccain.
Posted by: vernonwerge | May 29, 2008 12:06:05 PM
I don't like the way his cable network operates...far from 'fair and balanced' but you must admit the guy is no dummy. The hand writing is clearly on the wall. McCain's flip-flopping and gaffes will prove fatal in November. Not to mention his BFF W.
