I'm taking the rest of the week off (not having gotten any real R&R since last July thanks to this early, now extended, primary season).
Blogging in my staid for the rest of the week will be ABC News' Senior Political Reporter Rick Klein, primary author of The Note, whom I am happy to report was my first choice for a temporary replacement. Be nice to Rick, and be sure to check out The Note every morning.
See you guys no later than Monday morning --
Jake

Jake, enjoy your well-deserved time off! And thanks for providing the best spot on the web to find the insights and info that make this race so fascinating. And for giving us space to discuss our thoughts. Before I found your blog, I was always thinking, "Am I the only one?" Now I now there are many more like me, thanks to you.

tony said: " like when he rushed to say clinton lied over that healthcare story, but he made up for it by being one of the first ones to say he was wrong. and he was one of the first reporters to say that the obamania thing was creepy."
Actually, I think that Jake is the ONLY reporter who said he was wrong about those things. Good for you, Jake. Have a nice time off.

jake's pretty cool. sometimes he ticks me off -- like when he rushed to say clinton lied over that healthcare story, but he made up for it by being one of the first ones to say he was wrong. and he was one of the first reporters to say that the obamania thing was creepy. jake, have fun.

and Jake
thanks for keeping us all up to date...
I think you have and a couple of others are the new generation of news for us...you chris celizza, kristen powers,
I would love to see the three of you on the new online netwrok that's coming...but you aren't supposed to know about that. heh heh
but if you hear something about it...you know a new online interactive television station that maybe some companies are putting together behind the scenes... ...you should make a play for the anchor.

Have a nice vacation. Hopefully a miracle will happen for Hillary while you are gone.

stead, not staid. Unless that was some sort of clever joke, it was a pretty funny Freudian slip!

Hey Jake
not to sound like a jerk but can you correct your fellow reporters sunlen and david
they have a story about "gaffes" that Obama made...saying he called Arabic translators were being used in Iraq that were needed in afghanistan...
his gaffe was it is the farsi translators that are being used in Iraq (because of Iran) not because there was no overlap...
they need to check their facts...their wrong
they also say that obama gaffed on agricultural consultants being in Iraq...they say there is none in Iraq...
tell them to do some research on all the companies hired out by the pentagon ...they will find companies with agricultural specialists in that group
so their whole story really is misleading...
the only thin Obama screwed up on was the Farsi translators that are being used in Iraq are needed in afghanistan... not arabic
(and once again yes the farsi translators are in Iraq...why they do not realize that iran is the neighbor and the most important language to be translated ...not sure how they dropped the ball on that one).

See you guys? Ok, be that way. Wink, wink.
Be good to yourself and come back more politically correct.

Get some rest... the Convention Season is coming in August/September... Wright's book comes out in October and finally, finally (I repeat) finally, the General Election in November.
Then there's all that analysis on who lost/won and why.
But keep your pager handy... if there can be one word to describe this election it would be "dynamic"... as far as I'm concerned I would not be surprised if aliens come down from Mars to endorse Hillary, Alan Keyes endorses Obama, or Bill Clinton starts stumping for McCain. Literally anything can happen!

Thank God you're going away, however brief. You have been so sickenly pro-Obama. It will be a relief to actually read an objective journalist who reports the news.
