Super-Scooping Super-Ds

May 12, 2008 5:19 PM

It was just Friday. I was standing on a street corner in Portland, Oregon, at 4 am Pacific Time, telling Good Morning America's audience that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, had surpassed Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, in the one remaining metric left -- superdelegates.

Obama had 267 to Clinton's 265.

Now it's Monday afternoon, and Obama leads Clinton with superdelegates by 17 -- 283 to 266.

In total delegates, Obama has 1,873; Clinton has 1,692.

I never heard THOSE kind of sermons from Rev. Wright. I wasn't there(for 20 years I didn't hear them) A couple of weeks later, Oh yea, I heard them, but he didn't really mean what he said. I can't disown him he's my crazy old uncle. Then he said I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt.(What doubt? That he,Rev. Wright wouldn't show his a_ _ again?) The Bosnia story was minor compared to the Wright story. HILLARY TO THE END!!!

To many democrats have been become emotionally involved that the 2008 Democratic nomination has somehow divided the democratic supporter into us or them mentality. The Democratic party is not so much defined by the leader of the party, but to the the aspirations of the citizens that they represent. Sen Clinton and Sen Obama are two highly qualified candidates, One of them will win and one will lose. The winner will be the standard bearer of the democratic party ideas for securing America's dreams. With all that has gone insanely wrong in the last few years, it really hard to comprehend that any one would vote to travel the same road to perdition as in the last eight years under Republican rule. Ask yourself if you are better off than 8 years ago and the majority votes Democrat. When Sen Obama and Sen Clinton mend fences so should each of their supporters.

Obama vs McCain means talker vs doer.
Go McCain 08.

Posted by: The truth | May 13, 2008 8:41:45 AM

It is too late. Clinton supporters have
seen the the DNC up close in all it's stupidity. We will not join this fiasco. Florida and Michigan will not vote Obama if they bother to vote in the GE at all.

Congratulations President John McCain.

linda and lisa,
linda i suppose your last name is tripp?
interesting you should call someone dirty.
lisa, obama offered to pay off clintons presidental debts, or haven't you heard?
so do not act as if he has not done that. obama and co. are buying the support.
all of the people voting for obama many are voting for him for the wrong reasons.
voting against sen. clinton.
and if you are black voting for him the color.
can any of you obama supporters articulate what the "change" is that he is going to bring?
I have listened and I cannot, he says he is going to change the way washington does business, but obama supporters what type of business is he bringing?
sen. clintons negatives do not equal her not being able to be a good president
obama' negatives do.

Clintonists sound like little children, who could not understand reality, that as minimum - clintons are the PAST, as maximum - they are the most trashy politicians EVER.

So, we will clean The Party from them AT LAST.

And , man, are you doing the same , watching footbal - running to the field and asking to give the win to the team you wanted to win, no matter, what the result of the game was???
MEN , teach your wives a bit, so we would not elect a President with their "chicken brains".

Men, pick Your President, do not allow "house hens" to do it for you.

Posted by: Linda, Fl | May 13, 2008 5:35:56 AM

to jgaw and sonia.... - it's a shame to be devoted to dirty clintons.
in 2 months you will understand that.

We're pass this Jake. We're now on Obama vs. McCain

Posted by: Vanessa | May 12, 2008 10:40:14 PM

Hillary worked hard and did not win the nomination.

Just the facts.

Posted by: The Commander Guy | May 12, 2008 10:06:40 PM

The cowardice of superdelegates is very DISTURBING!

They should have waited till there was a CLEAR winner.

What was the rush? Money or career? For which you SDs ruined the Democrat's chance of winning in 2008.

You guys know very well, if Obama is the nominee, McCain will win.

Posted by: Jkan | May 12, 2008 10:06:10 PM

tim you asked a valid question. not everyting in life is about winning. for me how you win, is more important than winning. i feel especially distressed by the fact that so many want to end the election before all the states vote, or before all the votes are counted (florida michigan) that is not democratic. i remember florida, i remember the look in my daughter's eyes (first time voter). i remember saying to her, the 'democrats would never do this'. but here we are. so it becomes a question of integrity, doing what is right matters. the democrats this year appear to be using the florida handbook for winning elections-not with my vote they don't.

Senator Obama stated he wanted to go to all 57 states. When were an additional 5 states added to our Union and do the flag makers know. Guess that tainted Koolaid, cigs and street stuff is getting to him

WEST VIRGINIA AND KENTUCKY

THE TARNISHED PRESS has proven that it's broken.

Although this race is far from over, the media has been playing "taps" for HIllary ever since B O won North Carolina last week.

They choose not to remember that on that very same day, Hillary won Indiana, and that the week before, Hillary won Pennsylvania!

They choose not to tell you that 31,000 votes "FOR OBAMA" were Double counted in North Carolina.... not that it would have made a difference.

They choose not to tell you that 92 percent of black voters pledged for B O in North Carolina... or that 91 percent of black voters in Philadelphia followed the same pattern.

They don't want this to be played up because Obama's followers feel that telling the truth.... is racist.

But it IS appropriate to talk about the little blue dress and sling noxious. venomous off*topics slander at Hillary whenever they want because what THEY'RE doing... is not racist.... just cruel, arrogant, childish.

We all know that Hillary is the better, more seasoned, wiser candidate.

We have watched during the early debates how Obama's plans always mimicked hers. We have watched during the last debate, as Obama, with no one to imitate, appeared literally to be without words!

Hillary, as usual was unflustered and incredible in the depth and knowledge of her reponses.

The press disremembers too many of her achievements.... like procuring health care for 6,000,000 children.

Like bringing to the table a truly UNIVERSAL health care package which even Mrs. John Edwards has praised.

Don't let the brash Barack and the myopic media win.

Hillary needs your help!

She needs your vote!

She won't let you down.

Please don't let HER down!

Thank you, and G-d Bless!

what john edwards said and i am paraphrasing, is the following; it looks like obama will be the nominee. but no he did not endorse. he also stated that he is going to wait until all the states vote to support either candidate. he also said that supporting one candidate over the other causes division. brilliant, why couldn't all the other hotshot looser's kerry, kennedy. dean. richardson, do the same? think about it? follow the money? the sd's are getting huge donations from the obama campaign for their own re election efforts. this is old, dirty, chicago style politics. and the reason why half of the chicago elected officials are in prison right now. so this is new eh? no thanks, i will take my chances on mccain if hillary does not get the nomination.

Posted by: sonia trevino | May 12, 2008 9:42:30 PM

ok, so im a conservative here and i need to ask a simple question to the hillary supporters here.. exactly HOW do you think she can win the nomination at this point?? i mean, one side of me wants her just because if people are dumb enough to put one of these socialists into the white house, i rather it be her. but i also dont mind seeing barack winning because he dosnt stand a chance. but i just wanna know HOW she can win at this point??

Posted by: tim | May 12, 2008 9:33:40 PM

What would it matter if Michelle's mother is a superdelegate? I haven't heard this, but why the concern?
bill clinton is a superdelegate, as a former president, supporting hillary....

And I hear hillary and the republicans are still looking for that manufactured scandal against Obama....and it sounds like they're pushing for it even more desperately at this point. Anything, whether its true or not, to bring this man down....how sad.

jgaw-i live in new mexico. i did not realize that obama paid off richardson's election bid tab? makes sense the guy is a total opportunist. if obama is betting on richrdson to being the hispanic vote on board wow are they in for a surprise it will have the opposite effect lol. in nm some of us have started a watch list anybody that richardson endorses we will campaign against.

Posted by: sonia trevino | May 12, 2008 9:24:36 PM

and there maybe some truth to it that obama and his handlers offered to help richardson pay off his presidential debt.
obama the new kind of politician has proven he and those who support him can be the best politicans and public servants money can buy

Posted by: jgaw | May 12, 2008 9:13:47 PM

Anders Scooper if obama wins the nomination and chooses richardson he will ensure an ever further loss within the hispanic community. in new mexico richardson is considered a traitor. nm supported hillary-nationally hispanics supported hillary and yet he endorsed obama. the worse part of all this was not his endorsement, but rather his hateful vile statements on larry king-sort of like twisting the knife after stabbing us all in the back. richardson is an opportunist who only endorsed obama because he misses being on the national stage.

Posted by: sonia trevino | May 12, 2008 9:09:32 PM

how do you figure that can happen, now?
i am all for sen. clinton, always have and will, but i listened to her what seems to me her goodbye speech today, i
think obama and his handlers with all of their money and the dnc behind them, they have beat her and us.

in the spirit of the phrase
keep your friends close, but your enemys
closer
as a life long dem. i was just listening to the bill oriley
talk about the obama/ayers association.
a reporter from the chi. trib. was on and the word is there is a lot to come out in nov. about this association. and how the nation is going to be shocked to find out how these back room far lefters have been planning to put a hand picked, spoonfed disciple of theirs obama in the wh.
mr. obama went to chi. and aligned himself with the wright church on purpose, he purposely went to meet and associate and become friends with the ayers.
i just wonder when this all comes out all i want to hear is how chris matthews and keith olberman will spin this. because with obama and his chicago people-i think they probally think of cm and ko as idiots-and really are just using them
obama will not be POTUS
and i feel sad to say the dems will not win.

Posted by: jgaw | May 12, 2008 8:58:36 PM

Jelly Bean Dean would make a good vice for Obama but he will pick Bill Richardson.

Posted by: Anders Scooper | May 12, 2008 8:56:31 PM

People are speculating about who Obama might pick for vp. Conventional wisdom is that he would pick someone to shore up his foreign policy/commander-in-chief creds against McCain. Stunningly, Obama has said that he thinks this is the area where he is strongest!!! On April 6 in Cal. he said:
"I would like somebody who knows about a bunch of stuff that I'm not as expert on," ... "I think a lot of people assume that might be some sort of military thing to make me look more Commander-in-Chief-like. Ironically, this is an area--foreign policy is the area where I am probably most confident that I know more and understand the world better than Senator Clinton or Senator McCain."

Again he thinks his strong suit is as Commander-in-Chief and needs help in the other areas! People this is very risky business.

Posted by: hopesprings52 | May 12, 2008 8:49:25 PM

Mary,
That has been going on all along and was the word on why Richardson endorsed Obama. Note, I do not have personal knowledge. It is done and can be done as they are all Democrats.

ELECTION FOR SALE??

Posted by: countallthevotes | May 12, 2008 8:32:33 PM

The Party is more than any one of its candidates, and it's the Party that wins in November, not the candidate. Now, whether the Party wins will depend much on how its members come together under it's adopted manifesto. The Party cannot have Obama saying one thing and Clinton saying it's not going to work.

Posted by: TK | May 12, 2008 8:29:04 PM

Was just listening to some talk radio station on my way home from the store. The guy just stated that the Obama campaign has set aside $20 million to help the superdelegates in the next election. Is this a bribe or what?
I certainly call it dirty politics. Seems the will of the voters aren't being heard. The primaries are not over yet.

Obama won't pick Hillary as VP...

His only weapon against Reps is his pretended new politics or change (though he came from the most infamous political city Chicago with the biggest political fixing scandal)...

If he picked the same "old" Washington insiders or politicians he and his campaign have trashed from day one, he would be left with nothing....

Posted by: True Truth | May 12, 2008 7:48:12 PM

Posted by: Bishop | May 12, 2008 7:45:21 PM

Forget Hillary running on as VP with that inexperienced arrogant racist fake Obama. It won't happen and if by some freakish event it did, I would still not vote for Obama.

Posted by: Shel | May 12, 2008 7:41:54 PM

True Dat:

Did I say I was voting for McCain? NO? I didn't think so. I said I am not voting for BO and I'm not. I refuse to vote for anyone who painted Bill and Hillary Clinton as racists. Two people who have spent most of their lives fighting for civil rights are called racists by BO and his campaign...just so they could win SC? Forget it! The man will NEVER get my vote because of that.

I'm writing in Hillary's name. IF my state isn't close in the GE (should BO be the nominee, which he won't be because he can't win). BUT, should it be close, I just might cast my first ever, since 1973, republican vote. BO won't be getting my vote.

If you are so concerned about our country, True Dat, perhaps you should have supported the candidate who can actually win the GE?

Posted by: Vickie | May 12, 2008 7:39:33 PM

How would you like Hagel or some mod republican with Obama IMO its coming

Posted by: Bishop | May 12, 2008 7:37:36 PM

Who's truth is truer...thank you for stating exactly how I feel!

The Obama camp has trashed, insulted, disrespected, and bullied my candidate and that can not be forgotten.

Posted by: Shel | May 12, 2008 7:37:34 PM

I can't wait to see how the Clinton's will "thank" all of those who trashed them and turned their backs on them when Hillary wins the US Presidency!

How stupid are the superdelegates?

They have to pick who can defeat McCain.

Guess who they will pick?

Posted by: Shel | May 12, 2008 7:35:12 PM

True Dat,

May I interject? There are a few things that might be helpful for you to understand. Many Clinton supporters feel a deep affection for the Clintons, because of that whole peace-and-prosperity thing in the 90s. They feel alienated by the Democratic party because of things like unfair caucuses, the votes of some districts counting more than those of others, and the wholesale disenfranchisement of millions of people in Florida and Michigan. They dislike Obama because he has insulted them, calling them bitter and clingy, and because he associates with known anti-Americans. To top it off, the media and Obama are trying to shove their candidate out the door before the fiesta is even over. You know, if you were in this situation, wouldn't you be a little annoyed too?

Posted by: Who's truth is truer | May 12, 2008 7:33:08 PM

Vickie,
Look, I'm not trying to be confrontational, but what exactly would voting for McCain do for you? I know what it would do for the country: more wars, more debt, and more disaffected Americans. Clinton and Obama have very similar positions on many issues and I have no idea why you think he would be such a horrible president. He has inspired lots of young people to get involved and has generated an excitement for politics that is almost totally unique in the past 50 years. Seriously... voting for McCain? If you really supported Hillary so much, you would never even consider it. You think SHE'S gonna vote for him?

Posted by: True Dat | May 12, 2008 7:26:46 PM

Tru Dat:

I want 2209. That is the real number.

Posted by: countallthevotes | May 12, 2008 7:26:42 PM

Sorry, True Dat, but black voters threatening to riot if their guy loses is not going to sit well with MOST VOTERS in this country...the MAJORITY in this country.

Just wait. The MM knows there's something coming on BO. They allude to it all the time. Just wait and watch.

Posted by: Vickie | May 12, 2008 7:21:37 PM

" can't take anyone seriously who cites John Edwards as a reference. That's like citing, oh let's see, Ted Kennedy, or John Kerry, or George McGovern or any of the other electoral losers who've weighed in."

Uh... ok. I'm not sure I can take someone seriously who doesn't know how to use a frickin' calculator either.

Posted by: True Dat | May 12, 2008 7:18:35 PM

True Dat: BO cannon win the GE. Go look at the latest Electoral Maps. Open your eyes! HE CANNOT WIN THE GE.

I know I won't be voting for him and I also know I'm not the only Democratic Hillary supporter who isn't voting for him. There's MILLIONS of us out here. BO can't woo me. Roe v. Wade means jack to me now. If 20 something Obamarhoids don't care about Roe v. Wade, why should I?

If he is allowed to steal this election, he will destroy the Democratic Party...what's left of it, that is. He cannot win the GE. That's a fact. Caucuses mean SQUAT in a GE. Electoral votes are what's important in a GE.

Posted by: Vickie | May 12, 2008 7:18:12 PM

My question, True Dat, is why do you CARE? Why can't you just let things play themselves out??

Posted by: Come on, True Dat, buddy | May 12, 2008 7:18:02 PM

Let's just put it this way... I realize (as should you) that the chances of either super or pledged delegates abandoning Obama short of some sort of absolute catastrophe (think Wright times 1,000) is basically impossible. You have any idea how pissed off black voters would be in that situation? And, unlike those Reagan Democrats, these are people who regularly and faithfully support the party. Your pantsuited wonder may continue her hijinx, but, like I said, the math just won't work for her. Sorry Vickie.

Posted by: True Dat | May 12, 2008 7:15:06 PM

I can't take anyone seriously who cites John Edwards as a reference. That's like citing, oh let's see, Ted Kennedy, or John Kerry, or George McGovern or any of the other electoral losers who've weighed in. Why can't they just keep quiet until someone hits 2,025?

Posted by: Come on, True Dat | May 12, 2008 7:12:32 PM

Ok a dose of really...No way HRC wins. BO did not steal it from her he won it plain and simple according to the rules of the DNC. If you Hillary dems don't like it, call your local chief of the DNC and say ditch SD's and change the system to the Republican plan an all or nothing system. Quit crying do something about it.

Posted by: pdogg757 | May 12, 2008 7:12:19 PM

You all do realize that Pledged Delegates and Super Delegates can all change their minds until the convention, right? LOL! Let the Obama trash flow because when it starts, you will see the delegates make an exodus from BO's campaign so fast your heads will spin.

It's not over until the lady in the pantsuit says it's over. DEAL WITH IT.

Posted by: Vickie | May 12, 2008 7:11:04 PM

Let's just assume that John Edwards knows a little more about this stuff than either you or me, eh?

Posted by: True Dat | May 12, 2008 7:09:33 PM

Oh... and that 80%? That includes Michigan and Florida. It's over.

Posted by: True Dat | May 12, 2008 7:08:33 PM

I missed John Edward's coronation as the all-seeing God. Let me know when that comes back on cable.

Posted by: Come on, True Dat | May 12, 2008 7:06:23 PM

Dude, John Edwards himself just said this thing is over. There is almost no conceivable scenario in which she can win. She would have to get like 80% of the vote in ALL the remaining primaries to even come close, not to mention somehow convincing the superdelegates that the popular vote doesn't matter and risking the largest backlash the party has ever seen by its most loyal voting bloc. That said, I really don't care if she stays in the race or not. It doesn't matter at all to the outcome. I just don't want my Obama donation to go to mopping up her debts.

Posted by: True Dat | May 12, 2008 7:04:22 PM

Um, dl, how is Bill Clinton to blame for a war that was declared in 2003 (and the associated 50,000 injured soldiers)? How is he to blame for conservative justices when he never picked any? How is he to blame for the housing crisis, when it didn't even start until a few years ago?

Posted by: Glenn Close's sister | May 12, 2008 7:02:04 PM

so to sum up

the war,
the economy.
our standing in the world and how it is effecting not only our safety but our economy,
the housing market,
healthcare,
our crumbling military,
our 50,000 wounded vets who will need to be taken care of for the rest of their lives and growing...
women's right to choose
conservative justices taking this country back 20-50 years
the environment

do you think it is good that all of you are bringing up all of these other issues when these are the ones in the general.

You all have resorted to the same tactics that the republicans used in 2000 and 2004

Only difference is...the state of our country now...is bad and looking to get worse... because of this same old road that we have been on for not just 8 years... we have been on this road for a few more than that...

We started going down this road the last few years of Bill Clinton's terms... if you say not you are not looking at history. This hill we have been sliding down started in 1998. and picked up speed with the Bush man.

I tell you that the real conservatives in this country should endorse (quietly) Obama's campaign because he was raised through age 30 under 10 years of Kennedy/Johnson/Carter but 20 of Nixon/Ford/Reagan policies.

1. This shows that he prospered under relatively conservative policies.
2. He is the fruit of the "color blind" policies that were being pushed.
3. If elected, a lot the rationale for affirmative action and similar race-based quotas goes away because the system did work. He saw his opportunities and took them.
4. If he were a little more conservative (maybe a lot more), he would be the poster child of those folks.

God I'm tired of this states won crap. Are we really expected to count WY or AK with their 8000 total votes equal with CA or PA or OH. Obama has not won one large swing state and won't win the GE. But what the hey - the nuts in the far left of our party got their way. Nice. But this Dem is one that will no way vote for a man who would proudly stand on a stage with a man who would proudly stand on the American Flag - what a joke.

Dems for McCain 08

Posted by: oldspice | May 12, 2008 6:51:56 PM

Why couldn't Hillary close the deal she was handed for the past 4 years?

Why couldn't Hillary get young voters?

Without white women Hillary couldn't have gotten this far?

Hillary is only here because she is a woman and women voted for her to put the first woman in office.

Why can't Hillary win voters who will perform for her in caucus states?

Why can't Hillary raise as much money as Obama?

do you see how silly some of your questions/arguments are.

There is a math for everything.

The math that counts is delegates. and the rules that Hillary's campaign team actually came up with (McAuliffe, Rendell, Clinton herself, Penn, Ferraro have more to do with what happened in Florida and Michigan than any other group of democrats there is) are the rules by which all candidates followed to get their word out to the people who followed them.

and as we have seen ...the difference between when a candidate has campaigned in a state and when they have not...and the voters got to meet that candidate...was about a 20 point difference most of the time.

No matter what the fall out of all this race baiting has been on these final states the difeferences in the general will not be hurt by these kitchen sinks... in the general the differences in parties in the things that matter ...the war, the economy. our standing in the world and how it is effecting not only our safety but our economy, the housing market, healthcare, our crumbling military, our 50,000 wounded vets who will need to be taken care of for the rest of their lives and growing...

These kitchen sink issues will be looked at as one dynasty's attempt at holding onto their restrictive hold on a party.

We need more Hillary supporting folks like 'eyes wide open' to send large amounts of their money to Hillary. She deserves their continuing respect ad support to the very end!! Please help if you are Pro-Hillary.

The whole thing comes down to simple math. BHO won. It's over. Time to move on.

Posted by: True Dat | May 12, 2008 6:35:24 PM

I would sell my delegate vote (if I had one) and invest it in oil stocks.

Posted by: Just saying | May 12, 2008 6:30:44 PM

I was told that Michelle's mother is a delegate. can anyone confirm that?

also, I have heard one superdelegate say that he would SELL his vote.. for charity.

It's a great system they've set up to protect the voting rights of their citizens! N O T!

There must be something MORE we can do than wait for our turn to vote!

But when mine comes... it will definitely be for Hillary...
if it has to be a write in.... then RIGHT ON!!

But I have the feeling that something is going to happen..... and the track on which this election seems to be going ... is going to switch back!

I hope it's soon!

More about Lookup's scorecard:

Obama won 10 "black" boosted states and 6 red states from Dems' primaries and won 13 caucuses..

Hillary won 17 states (most of blue states) from primaries and 1 caucus..

Certainly Obama has dominated in Caucus while Hillary won more states from primaries...

Tell the Truth,

Hillary will not tell the Truth, love her but the Republicans will surely win the Presidency if she is the winner of the Primary.

1. Bullets flying over head
2. Women who did not have insurance
3. IRS release of this years return
4. White Water
5. Hillary and Indiana:
6 Hillary and Bill in Colombia.
7. Bill in China

The list goes on, and don't think the Republicans will ignore this wealth of corruption.

YES "WE" Can

Barack believes the world wants the US to lead.

Translation: The world wants Barack to lead.

Barack believes we are the change we can believe in.

Translation: Barack is the change we can believe in.

Michelle wasn't proud of the US until now.

Translation: Michelle wasn't proud of the US until Barack started leading in the primaries.

If you Obama people were so sure he had this sewn up, you wouldn't be trashing Hillary Clinton right now. But he doesn't and you're still here.

True Truth,

There is a possibility.
Just like he did it to Hillary,to pay her loan.

The Clintons have no class and are pathetic liars. That is why they will not get the nomination, super delegates know this.

@still4hill: ...and eat crow when he doesn't?

Posted by: Deep Release | May 12, 2008 5:55:59 PM

Obama acts like he has won it, He is talking to a National audience now. He knows and so does Clinton that this race is over. These supers are being spaced out, to allow Clinton to continue to run, to complete the process.

Great speech in WV by the way.

It is a rumor that Obama "bribed" some SD's...

Is it the truth??

Posted by: True Truth | May 12, 2008 5:49:01 PM

The SuperDs are under-estimating the repercussions of not waiting until the voices of the voters in the remaining states are heard.

If they try to shut this thing down early, they will learn the error of their ways in defections from the Democratic Party.
