The Clintons and Economists

May 06, 2008 12:52 PM

Yes, the Clinton campaign has taken an aggressively anti-economist stance in order to push her gas tax holiday proposal.

But 'twasn't always so.

Obama may be elected as top one liar for the longest lies: 17years lie about his pal Resko and 20years lie about his uncle pastor Wright...

No matter what, Obama is a liar and he was caught by lying..

Posted by: True Truth | May 6, 2008 3:37:22 PM

Well we have more enemeies now than we did before he came into office.

The Iraq goverment has a 300 billion dollar surpluss. While our economy and the American people are suffering.

Bush is such a wonderful president.

Posted by: Sick and Tired | May 6, 2008 3:36:29 PM

Spock - Bush/Cheney are the enemies of America. You feeling good about their "leadership"? Pre-emptive war based on lies, "Mission Accomplished", spying on American citizens, torture, worst economy in our history, highest national debt in our history. Hahahaha - yeah, they're real pals of America.

Posted by: EddyNewHope | May 6, 2008 3:35:30 PM

Hey Libs everytime you insult President Bush the better, becasue the more you hate him it shows the Better President he is!!

No one wants the enemies of America to like our President!!

Posted by: spock | May 6, 2008 3:26:22 PM

TRUTH is Conservatives have given a long term solution to our oil problem -- Drill HERE !!! Open more Refineries!!!

or Charge Libs more money foor there gas while Americans pay less!!

Posted by: spock | May 6, 2008 3:24:18 PM

Well it was you good wonderful blue collar voters that put Bush in office for two terms. Anyone with a lick of common sense wouldnt have given him there vote. Ya'll are the reason we are in this mess. And now you and fellow americans who didnt vote bush are reaping the negative benefits of a horrible president.

And Obama supporter youre right. We already have a dishonest president in office, that we cant wait to ship back to Texas.

Why would anyone want to replace him with another liar, who wouldnt know the truth if it slapped her in the face.

Posted by: Sick and Tired | May 6, 2008 3:18:58 PM

Clinton is showing that she is willing to take on the oil companies. That's good enough for me. You can all speculate about how the oil companies will just hike up the prices. I think that your anger would be best served if aimed at the "RECORD PROFIT" OIL COMPANIES. I wish these economist would have been more vocal or more dug up by the press when Bush was depleting our Soc Sec, our surplus and throwing us into Iraq. It's this whole system; corporations and media that pushed Bush and now have pushed Obama. No thanks!

Posted by: irma | May 6, 2008 3:12:31 PM

Now are these the same economists that for some reason have not stood up and spoken to the media the two times Bush and Congress cut us some tax relief checks for political purpose (poor poll numbers)?

Posted by: irma | May 6, 2008 3:04:30 PM

What's Obama gonna do about the short term you ask? Nothing, because there's nothing you can do in the next MONTH to fix an entrenched corrupt system that's been working it's tentacles into our country for decades.

He has presented longterm solutions, most of which are the same one's your candidate Clinton has presented, because THAT's the solution. There is no long term solution that actually works.

Somehow that's a problem, though for you people. You'd rather choose the candidate who will Lie about a short term solution than the one who is telling the Truth about the situation.

Which doctor would you choose? The one who gives you magic beans to cure your cancer, or the one who'll level with you about your chances and talk about a long course of treatment?

Posted by: fontapa | May 6, 2008 2:28:55 PM

At least she is willing to put something are state had a gas tax holiday for sixty days and no one was unhappy about it.

Posted by: Bishop | May 6, 2008 2:23:00 PM

So what has Obama said he will do is what I am asking to help us.

Posted by: Bishop | May 6, 2008 2:20:09 PM

Put the legislation up. Let Bush veto it. Put it up again. Let Bush veto it again. Let McCain explain it away.

Better to fall down punching than to lay down and whine. Better to start the fight and let the gas moguls and energy traders know they are in for a fight they will lose.

You want them to negotiate? Carpet bomb them until they weep. I know, that's the old politics. It's called giving a damm. Better than tea and crumpets.

Posted by: len | May 6, 2008 2:18:55 PM

Bishop -

That's just the problem. Voters are being swayed by her gas tax bill foolishness, which is a right now issue, even though it's a completely fabricated pile of bunk. They're not being asked to vote based on what she'll do as President.

Thanks, you've precisely highlighted what concerns most of us about her current tactic.

Posted by: fontapa | May 6, 2008 2:17:00 PM

Obama is opposing something just for the sake of opposing, he tried to show he is different...

He didn't tell the true reason why gas price keeps going up for last ten years.....

He has neither short-term solution nor long term strategy to relieve or solve the problem...

Yes, he is different.."out of touch" to common people...

Posted by: True Truth | May 6, 2008 2:16:32 PM

Lois ,you will be worse off with Hilly in there the even Mc Caim she don't care for anyone but Hilly.,She will say and do what ever it takes to get elected .Nothing will be changed same ole Washinton. She cashed in a blind trust of 41 million, yes MILLION she will not show you this until this is over, it all came from the same people she says she will do away with in Washington...Do you think she ever went hungey????Do you think she has bought one drop of gas in 24+ years?????Do think she ever went cold?????

Posted by: honest | May 6, 2008 2:15:50 PM

It's not about what she can do right now it's about what she would do when she is President.

Posted by: Bishop | May 6, 2008 2:13:23 PM

Obama positions in this week
against cutting taxes
defends Iran
defends OPEC

McGovern and Carter wrapped into one landslide loss package.

Posted by: geevill | May 6, 2008 2:12:35 PM

Whats Obama's plan for Gas and energy problems.

Posted by: Bishop | May 6, 2008 2:11:12 PM

len, Do you really think that they can have a gas tax cut this year? Come on fella, think....Bush is President not Hillary..she cannot pass anything

Posted by: carnival | May 6, 2008 2:08:06 PM

It's always enlightening, fontapa, to read from people who bought into the change and hope memes reply in the most cynical terms possible to the one proposal that gives even a tiny bit of relief to the poor.

You are elitists. You can't deny it. You are far more concerned about winning an argument than the people who are taking the hits from manipulated gas prices.

Hillary is proposing something that is a bit of short term help for those who need it most. You are only interested in the so-called long term solutions that can't produce results in two years much less one summer.

Face it; you are completely out of touch.

Posted by: len | May 6, 2008 2:05:03 PM

Lois...for an obviously educated woman you aren't being logical. You would vote for someone who has lied repeated, taken money from lobbyists, and associated with thugs just because she is a WOMAN....WOW are we in trouble. We shouldn't even be looking at the gender or race...you should see that better than anyone...look at the person. Do you think Hillary can relate to you? She grew up privileged..Obama is trying to tell you that this scam won't work. he is being honest...This seems to be a NEW term in politics...

Posted by: carnival | May 6, 2008 2:02:21 PM

Lois,

I'm glad for you that you get to vote for a woman, and for the enthusiasm you have for your candidate.

Your previous posts, however, have blamed opposition to Hillary's gas tax plan to elitism and being out of touch with the poor and needy.

Hillary is not doing this to help you. She knows everything I said is true. She's counting on you to vote for her, hoping you can't figure out she's lying to you.

That's why I can't support her. I will give you this, If this were between Hillary, Obama, and another woman candidate who was even remotely honest about anything, I'd have to put careful thought into voting Obama or that candidate.

Gender and Race aren't everything Lois. A woman is just as capable of being another Abe Lincoln or a George W Bush.

Posted by: fontapa | May 6, 2008 2:01:54 PM

any tax cut they want to give I am all for it.

Posted by: Bishop | May 6, 2008 1:58:16 PM

Since Kennedy and gang love to tax people I expect they will roll back all the taxes to pay for there entitlement programs as they did in the sixty's will all have to sacrifice to pay for the war and working class people will do the most so long EIC for anyone who makes $15,000.00 or more a year. Welcome higher taxes.on all

Posted by: Bishop | May 6, 2008 1:55:59 PM

Karl...where have you been? I guess you don't watch the news...I have seen more Obama bashing in the last few months than the whole campaign. I cannot count anything about Hillary since Bosina.

Posted by: carnival | May 6, 2008 1:55:45 PM

People who opposed gas tax holiday don't understand why the gas price keeps going up...

Gas price will go up with or without gas tax holiday...

Simply, gas price going up is because the increase of global demand for oil...The gas price is up to the global price of OIL..

There is nothing America can do it unless US finds out another supply.....

All economists know it...

That is the fact....

Posted by: True Truth | May 6, 2008 1:53:35 PM

Jim...I don't think it is her age, but her smoking mirrors that should concern us all. To promise a deduction in gas taxes is unscrupulous and a down right lie.

Posted by: carnival | May 6, 2008 1:53:18 PM

fontapa

I too was on welfare and raised three children on my own. I was in the era that transcended from patriarch to the womens liberation movement. I worked in offices that discriminated against me because I was black AND a woman. I get excited about a woman that may be president someday. This is why Hillary is supported by women that has struggled and survived being abused by society. I love her strength and tenacity. It reminds me of when I had to fight for everything in life. Working, going to school, and raising a family by myself. I even received two Masters degrees on my own. Who cares about what she says about the gas prices. I still have to pay the same amount at the gas pump as you do. I'm very proud that a woman may be the next president of the United States. That is why I won't vote for another man eventhough he is black like me.

Posted by: Lois, California | May 6, 2008 1:52:22 PM

RCP poll of polls average is down to a difference of just 0.2 percent. It's time to put these two candidates in a room and not let them out until they put together a ticket with both of them on it.

Posted by: commonsensenj | May 6, 2008 1:48:55 PM

Hillary does not represent my values. I am a college educated single father with two kids (ages 8 and 10), who can see through Hillary’s smoking mirrors. For those inquiring minds, yes, my kids live with me full time…their mother is a deadbeat…but that is not the point. The point is, Hillary Clinton is an ELITIST. She has become like The Pied Piper of Hamelin...where uneducated voters follow her without question...not realizing that she's driving them towards the abyss.

At age 60, Hillary needs to look at retirement, not running the country. Hillary is too old to be president of the United States.

Obama is against the gas tax wellwhat is he for.

Posted by: Bishop | May 6, 2008 1:47:43 PM

Wow - "I don't put much stock in economists". Does that sound like our current president G. W. to anyone else? Hmmmm - I would prefer a president who did listen to the experts on important issues. What a joke. Last week is was "jobs, jobs, jobs", now it's the "gas tax holiday" which will cost the US 300,000 jobs. Am I loosing my mind or is the Clintons who have lost theirs?

Posted by: EddyNewHope | May 6, 2008 1:46:53 PM

If you do not listen to economist. How could you listen to your economic advisers as president. She is a liar. Beside she can't even give the holliday. She is not the current president.

Posted by: james | May 6, 2008 1:44:05 PM

Oh Lois, you want someone to worry about you and do something for you. you are barking up the wrong tree.
Clintons have always made promises and never deliver. Like Bill, promised to never raise taxes, 2 months in office he raised taxes. Obama is different in he tells you the way it is going to be, he does not make false promises that will never be fulfilled. Love your Hillary all you want. But you really need to study her first. They are pros at making you believe in them and then you get screwed.

Posted by: Becky | May 6, 2008 1:43:17 PM

Those listening to the economists are the very ones who is responsible for our economic problems now. Senator Clinton has never stated that the gas tax relief is a long-term solution but it certainly would help some people that must drive for a living. Senator Obama is a hyprocrite to oppose it since he voted THEE TIMES for the same relief while in IL State Senate. Senator Obama will say and do anything to get elected, even using hoodlums like Tony Rezko to help him get elected and buy a mansion. He is not for the average working family, he is for the more corrupt or terrorist type. He is far too liberal with tax dollars for those who choose to be irresponsible and has a Marxist attitude. NO NO to Obama.

Posted by: Irish Gram | May 6, 2008 1:42:06 PM

Lois,

The bill will not pass. Period. Everyone in the Senate is saying so. Clinton must know this, she's not exactly new to this game.

A candidate, looking to get votes, could draft a bill promising free money and pie to every household, knowing it will not pass Congress. That's what pandering means.

Just doing something for the sake of doing it, even though you know she knows it won't get passed, even though she knows its a bad idea, even though she knows it will be a net loss for YOU Lois... How does that get your support?

I'm unemployed, Lois. I was raised on welfare and food stamps. I got a job in a bank and took one low level intro to economics course. I'm no elitist, and I'm not wealthy.

Even I can tell you with conviction that the plan is bogus.

Day 1: Gas tax drops, everyone gets gas

Day 2: Increased demand for gas makes gas more valuable, raises prices.

Day 3: If prices haven't risen due to demand, energy traders, smelling blood in the water, will bump prices claiming supply/demand rationale.

Result - no savings for Lois

3 months later - Gas companies get bill from IRS for windfall profits tax.

Next day - Gas companies pay IRS Bill

Day after that - Gas companies methodically raise prices to recoup costs of paying IRS Bill

Result - Lois gets nailed at the pumps for more than she could have hoped to have saved.

A non-elite, poor, jobless non-economist here saying, very slowly and carefully

Lois?

You

Have

Been

Had.

Clear enough?

Posted by: fontapa | May 6, 2008 1:38:18 PM

Her father was a salesman. "Say what you need to close the deal dear." In many ways the apple doesn't fall far from the tree especially if Bill is the fertilizer. As George Costanza would say "It's not a lie if somebody believes you."

Posted by: Oscar Meyer | May 6, 2008 1:30:42 PM

SO WHAT!!! I'm looking at the person who cares about us. There may be truth to pandering but at least she's trying something. The people that say it won't make sense, are Obama supporters and rich, rich economists. These same economists are the same ones that are dictating our economy now. Who would you believe? I want to hear that someone is proposing something NOW! not when they're president. Obama is still against the poor folks that need relief now. Why can he talk to people like he feels their pain? He sounds detached and condescending.

Posted by: Lois, California | May 6, 2008 1:25:13 PM

She's not really against the economists this time either Jake. Anyone can see that she's propped up a fake stance about an issue that is designed to get votes. The bill will never get passed, and if it did, there's not a snowball's chance in hell that it'll work the way she's saying. She knows this, there is no dounbt.

The strategy is simple. Lie to the voters, and when the lie is revealed in the media, push back as hard as you can. Then ride it out and hope you fooled just enough of a margin into voting for you.

Better question: In another month or so, when the folks who bought it in IN and NC catch on to the truth, how's she hoping to get their trust/vote back if she becomes the nominee?

Posted by: fontapa | May 6, 2008 1:21:27 PM

I love how the Hillary labels everyone who disagrees with her an "elite" and "Oh I feel your pain" while they have made over $100 millions since leaving the White House.

I can't believe that people actually believe that Hillary cares about them.

Posted by: Neil | May 6, 2008 1:18:10 PM

She is good ask her she will be the first one to tell you NOT this ia a ploy...;..But she din't get my vote.
