The Math
May 13, 2008 11:01 AM
With former DNC chairman Roy Romer endorsing Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, this morning that makes a net gain of 26 superdelegates for Obama in the last week over Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY.
That completely -- numerically -- negates Clinton's pending West Virginia victory today. The Mountain State has 28 pledged delegates.
(None of which is to say that for the general election Obama doesn't have a huge task ahead of him to convince these white working-class voters that he understands and cares about their problems. But the math is the math.)

bhrandon,
If you do not want McCain as President it is your own fault for supporting an unelectable Democrat.

the idea that obama is an elitist and sips cappuccinos is the most propostirious thing i have ever heard.
we can thank clinton for this one....
only the clintons with thier 109million bucks coudl call someone that just payed off student loans a fat cat rich elitist
LOL
give me a break,
if you vote for mccain this fall, you are killing thousands and thousands of more americans, you are dooming the economy, and you are over turning the right for women to choose
go ahead and vote mccain, but when his approval rating is at a negative 86% and you wonder how we got a bush third term, dont blame obama, dont blame the democrats, dont blame the DNC
blame yourself for marking your ballet for mccain
also, Oregon knows Obama isnt an elitist, we are a fairly educated state...
we want someone who has brains to lead, someone who has heart to lead, and someone who will bring america together.
Obama has won fair and square against hillary... im sorry

Well, ain't that the truth. He's in this for himself. Obama, what have you done for me lately? At least I remember being better off in the 90s.
"Obama is charming, but also snooty, arrogant, and full of himself."

the math is the math
as it is with the 50, 000 + soldiers and growing who will need to be taken care of for the rest of their lives...
the numbers of suicides and attempts from those returning from this war that is NOT making us safer
the math is the math
when it comes to the economy
the growing gas prices and how it is going to get worse the more we hold this foreign policy
the numbers of foreclosures and the math behind how it effects the neighbors of those houses...
the numbers that are growing of people who can't afford health coverage
the numbers of people who will be driving all over the world come 2012
the numbers of people who will be flying
the numbers of people who will be starving
the numbers of refugees from countries like Myanmar, Iraq and elsewhere whose poverty teamed with our foreign policy who will look to join al quaeda
the numbers of stories on the covers of world newspapers showing the overwhelming numbers of people who are hoping America makes the right choice
the numbers of left leaning supreme court justices that may retire in the next 4 years...and the number effect that a vote for McCain will have on the congress' ability to fight conservative appointments...
the math is the math when considering how the wealthy in this country percentage wise are saving on their taxes compared to those who can't afford to buy their own home, have healthcare, or afford to drive to work.
The numbers of allies that will see that we understand our mistakes with Iraq and will be more apt to help us if we vote for Obama.
You are right the math is the math.

Hard-working rural voters can spot a phony (of any color) from a mile away.
Obama is charming, but also snooty, arrogant, and full of himself.
He basks in the glory of big rallies, people fainting, media swooning, as he prances around on stage with his head getting bigger and bigger..
He calls small town Americans "bitter" in front of his rich friends, chose a radical anti-American church and pastor...and has an angry militant wife.
He is soft on crime, has shady rich friends, Ok with partial-birth abortion, calls children "punishment".
Yes Obama is out of touch with small town Americans...and he can't figure out why?
Go West Virginia/Go Hillary or McCain

good thing there are no "white working class voters" in Oregon, which is going to be another Clinton landslide. When, oh when, will Obama prove he can win this demographic?
I mean, Oregon and Wisconsin are full of black, elite, latte sipping, PhD holding liberals. Woe is Obama!

The media does not have to take WV seriously, Jake and other can downplay it all they want, the fact of the matter would be lets see if Obama can win it, if he cant it will be another state added to the tally that he could not carry, and will expect to carry to win the GE.
Hillary needs to go on there is life after this election they may not be life for Obama if he does not win the GE, so fight on Hillary you are making your presence felt and let the idiots bray.

I'm a lifelong Democrat that will never vote for Obama, so good luck in the general. I owe the party nothing, in fact I'm ashamed to say I've been a Democrat this long. Go McCain!

Obama Supporters:
No need to bash. It appears that Clinton will win the battle tonight, but you have already won the war. If you want your candidate to win in November, the reconcilliation needed to start yesterday. In reality, Clinton supporters would be acting the same way; it is our nature to celebrate victory, but remember Senator Obama's promise for a new kind of politics? As his supporters, you must strive to be the change that you seek. That means calming down. That means listening to and understanding to others' frustration. That means welcoming them in to the Obama camp as fellow democrats. Some will resist; some may even hate, but your role should be to simply accept them and allow our nominee to convince them that they should vote in their best interests. So for the good of our party in November, lay off a bit.

"That completely -- numerically -- negates Clinton's pending West Virginia victory today"
Really? No superdelagete vote in November. No causcus in November. Just folks like those in West Virginia going to the polls to vote for mcCain it looks like.

Many people are complaining that "every vote should count," and I completely agree; however, when the math shows that the votes cannot realistically change the winner, then it is time to move on to the real challenge: allowing our nominee to campaign for the White House.
Remember, these nomination battles are usually finished long before now. The party intentionally front-loaded this year so that there would be a presumptive nominee in February! The long-set system is designed to get through the process earlier so that the nominee can defend the beliefs and platform of the party.
Per MI & FL: the rules are the rules. Don't blame the candidates; blame your elected state leaders. They are the ones who misrepresented your interests! Unfortunately, life requries that we play by the rules, but the rules that aren't allowing your vote to count in the presidential primary will allow you to vote in November. You will be able to vote for Barack Obama, who will change this nation for the better, and you can vote your state leaders out who prevented your voice from being heard this spring.
It's time to unite. Let's put our differences and frustrations behind us. Let's remember what the party stands for; let's support Senator Clinton by supporting the issues she stands for even though she is not the nominee. A vote against Obama simply because he isn't Hillary Clinton is a vote against your best interests, it is a vote against the ideals of our party, and it is a vote against Hillary Clinton because she shares 99% of Obama's political positions, plans, and values.

Jake, you said: "That completely -- numerically -- negates Clinton's pending West Virginia victory today." And what a shame for the people of West Virginia that their votes are being marginalized by the media. As an example, Mika on Morning Joe was sarcastic about the vote today chortling about having to take it seriously. What a debacle this entire primary became once the media became the 24/7 sales and support center of the Obama campaign.
Keep going, Hillary!

If someone besides a Bush or Clinton was currently in office I suspect she would have had a better chance. Too many folks are ready for a REVOLUTION type change.

All the talking about Hillary will do whatever to get the SDs seems apply to Obama now. Guess these rumors are coming from the Obama's. Very clever.

You libs must love the elitists, you give the elitist more power then the popular vote, since the people must vote (and the elitists can vote there) to give a delegate, but the elitists get a delegate for themselves!!
So the dems give 1/3 of the delegate count to elitists!!
So what party again have elitists -
Definition of Elitism - The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources.
Obama meets with Billionaire Elitists in San Francisco calling the average person bitter!!
The Modern Day Democrat = Elitist Liberal pushing Stalinism!!
