The Victim Card

FROM GUEST-BLOGGER RICK KLEIN, OF ABC'S THE NOTE

There's an interesting subcurrent developing to the Clinton campaign's efforts to wrest delegates out of the disputed votes in Michigan and Florida.

My former Boston Globe colleague Joan Vennochi reports in her column this morning that a group of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's female supporters are "playing hardball politics" to get DNC Chairman Howard Dean to acknowledge that votes in those state deserve to be counted.

"During a private meeting last week, a group of Massachusetts women asked the chairman of the Democratic National Committee to confront the ugliness of sexism, just as Democrats are confronting the ugliness of racism as a result of Barack Obama's presidential bid," Vennochi reports.

Clinton supporter Deb Goldberg tells Vennochi: "The proof is in the pudding. What does Howard Dean do . . . based on our conversation with him?"

What they want Dean to do is step in and award delegates based on the elections in Michigan and Florida. The DNC's Rules and Bylaws Committee gets the next word -- if not the final word -- on the subject, at the end of the month.

A group of Clinton's female supporters has launched a Website aimed at getting the Democratic Party to reconsider its decision to strip Michigan and Florida of convention delegates.

And there's this from former President Bill Clinton, on the trail Wednesday, dialing up the full outrage over the treatment of states his wife won: "I just ask you all this, do you really believe Florida would be getting this kind of treatment if the vote had turned out the other way?" Clinton said, per ABC's Sarah Amos.

Well, yes. Far be it from me to divine the former president's meaning full here -- but how does the situation in Florida and Michigan relate even a little bit to who won the state?

You can agree or disagree with the Democratic National Committee's decision to punish Michigan or Florida for jumping the line, but to equate that with sexism or any other kind of prejudice against Clinton simply isn't accurate.

As has been discussed numerous, numerous times, both Clinton and Obama were very aware of the DNC's decision to strip Florida and Michigan of its delegates. The rules were put in place long before the voting began, without regard to race, sex, or anyone's regard for Clinton, Barack Obama, or any other politician, living or dead.

As Jake has noted, Harold Ickes -- a top Clinton adviser, and one of the leading voices calling for delegates to be awarded from the two rogue states -- voted for the delegate penalty, back when it wasn't clear who would win.

It sure sounded like Clinton knew what she was getting into on the even of the Michigan primary -- where her name remained on the ballot, and Obama had his removed.

"It's clear: This election they're having is not going to count for anything. I personally did not think it made any difference whether or not my name was on the ballot," Clinton told NPR.

What has been clear is that both campaigns are making arguments that fit their needs. Clinton wants Michigan and Florida to count because she'd gain delegates; Obama doesn't want them to count, because he'd lose some of his lead. Obama wants the will of the voters -- via the pledged delegates -- to be the final word; Clinton wants the superdelegates to be free to make a different judgment.

The delegate debate regarding Michigan and Florida will all play out the way it should, before the Rules and Bylaws Committee, May 31.

But Vennochi seems right on this point: "The Hillary Nutcracker is sexist. Keeping Florida and Michigan out of each candidate's primary vote tally is not. It's hardball politics."

Obama played the gay card in South Carolina, with his gospel tour last fall, it was despicable and he compounded his ACTIONS by a SPEECH in January, in a South Carolina church, castigating the black community for it's homophobia, the homophobia he used to get votes. As Adolph Reed says in the Progressive magazine, he's a con-man who appeals to the college educated, ignorant youth. Since I'm from Florida and the party who before thought it was important to count every vote has stripped me of my voting rights, I'm sitting this one out. Have a nice election with your 48 state strategy. Voting rights are more important than any candidate.

Lilcntrydarling,

Not only that but the people that DEVELOPED THE SANCTION, are NOW working in her campaign. They can't set one standard, then want to change it to suit their person of choice. The Amer. people should be outraged. If the shoe were on the other foot, people would be calling Obama a damn idiot for wanting to go against the RULES set forth. But no, it's their beloved Hillary. And, as well know, rules don't apply to the almighty great Clinton's. Please.

If she doesn't like the rules, then she should turn to Terry and Harold and slap the crap out of them as they are the ones that both crafted them and enforced them. It's over, she lost. People need to get over it and stop crying foul. Stunt and baseless complaints such as this will only prevent future women from advancing beyond NH the next time around. After all, the men would be crazy not to ban together. And, other groups would be crazy not to join them in banning together....

I just want to confront some of the arguments going on here. First of all Hillary and Obama both agreed about Florida and Michigan until Hillary started losing then she wanted to change everyones mind, like usal she whines and cries that she is being treated unfairly.I am NOT a teeny bopper, a drug addict, or in an Obama cult, etc... I am a grown woman with morals, a christian, and white (not that it should matter) but I have listened to all these accusations from you Hillary supporters making excuses as to what we must be to be able to vote for Obama, the truth is he has not bribed us, hypnotized us, or anything else you might say. He ran for president and we liked him just like you like Hillary, it is our choice NOT yours on who we can support, and you can say all you want about voting for Mccain, that is your right but don't complain later when your grandkids, or your elderly parents are starving because you can only blame yourselves for your own stupidity. Time to grow up and support our nominee!!

I think if you're still having trouble seeing Obama bias in the coverage of this election you might want to reread this blog! I get the idea that the MSM thinks all Hillary supporters are female ans somehow that makes it easier to minimize both their numbers and their candidate.

By the way the validatation of victimization and the "witch" hunt for racists in this election is underreported...want to take that one on?

Posted by: Jackie | May 16, 2008 11:06:25 AM

Why did Hillary leave her name on the Michigan ballot???

The candidates agreed not to campaign or PARTICIPATE in Michigan and Florida, yet she kept her name on the ballot.

Depends what the meaning of 'participate' is. (It's a Clinton thing.)

Carlean writes, "She lost this race long time ago."

=============================

A lot of these "intelligent" folks fail to see this. You see, they FAIL to see how the day Hillary and Bill started intentionally "misquote" BHO (and his wife) they FORFEITED 40% of the Black vote they were GUARANTEED. When they SAW how effective Obama was at campaigning they became SCARED and couldn't resist the temptation to NOT play the race card.

Hillary lost my vote and Bill lost my respect when they tried that "cheap", archaic NONSENSE.

Do you remember when Bill got on national TV and said "Obama SAID only the Republicans had good ideas". It was at that moment that it became clear he wasn't trying to appeal to the more CEREBRAL crowd. You know, the kind of people who actually PAY attention and will VERIFY who said what.

She pretty mucy ruined any chance of getting on the ticket when she chose that strategy.

And NOW....you have her supporters whining like children because their candidate lost an election? I can't decide which is more pathetic.

"The Hillary Nutcracker is sexist. Keeping Florida and Michigan out of each candidate's primary vote tally is not. It's hardball politics."

And calling the exclusion of FL & MI sexist is hardball politics too. Don't act so shocked. Expect similar moves from the Obama camp in the general.

Posted by: Judasmac | May 16, 2008 9:14:19 AM

90% of African American voted for Gore. 82% voted for Kerry. Over 90 % voted for Clinton, so why is it racist that 90% vote for Obama. Hillary Clinton would have had 90% had she not started playing the race card and showed them she didn't give a crap about the support they gave the Party or her husband. HRC supporters are delusional. She lost this race long time ago. If she wasn't a woman she would have dropped from the race long ago like the many White men. You'd rather vote for McCain? Do something that idiotic and once again America will get the kind of government it deserves. Enough already. HRC had a bad startegy; poor execution; fiscal mismanagement; and has proven herself to be polarizing and divise. What part of this don't you get? She probably still owes small vendors for all the confetti she has been dropping and the labor group who had to sweep up all that crap. You deride the young people who have been inspired by Barack Obama. Sounds like you are the ones who need to grow up.

No one was required to take his name off of the ballot in Michigan. Obama took HIS off because he figured he wouldn't win there anyways.

But in Florida, where where his name WAS on the ballot and where there was supposed to be NO CAMPAIGNING, Obama was electionairing for TEN DAYS prior to the elections, and still didn't win!

And how come only these two states of the six or seven which didn't play by this stupid rule were punished?

The DNC is a joke.

How can anyone have pride in a party which sells it's delegates' votes to the highest bidder and further impugns our democracy by disenfranchising two states of their right to vote?

I think it will be real easy for us Hillary supporters to either support her nomination with write- in votes..
or take our little tootsies on down to Republican land and saddle up the elephant.

Mccain, after all, is an honorable man and, since we'll have a democratic congress, everything would be copesetic.

The only way I would give up on Hillary if she should be on the same ticket as B O!

Posted by: questioner | May 15, 2008 11:15:29 PM

I agree that all 50 states (Obama says 57) should have primaries and have their votes or delegates counted. It is not about Clinton/Obama but these voters having a say in the election. The VIPs of the Democratic Party has shown very poor leadership and certainly, Senator Clinton did not vote to have these two states not count. In Florida, it was the Republication Legislature and in Michigan it was the Obama supporters that changed the dates after they knew Clinton had a lead. Obama also removed his name from the ballot for the same reason.
Obama is not honest and wants to win this election by default and by buying the superdelegates. Monday, I heard a report his campaign had put aside $20 million to help the superdelegates in the next election. Sounds dirty to me. If Obama wins, America is in trouble. He is a solid socialist with racist views. His 20 years in Trinty Church backs that up. He has used the Democratic Party and it will forever be weakened. Bet McCain is the next President. Obama is from the Chicago Combine of corrupt politican and businessmen and he needs to be sent back there.

Posted by: Mary | May 15, 2008 10:12:28 PM

This would not even be an issue if the Democrats apportioned delegates the way the Republicans do. Winner-takes-all, none of this proportional horse-race garbage.

I can't feel sorry for the donkeys, really. The superdelegates can't even do their jobs, which is to break the deadlock according to their own logic and consciences, because of the identity groups (blacks vs women) threatening them from both sides.

Now they both disgust me, and I'll vote for McCain -- who may seem like McSame to some, but compared to these two clowns, looks more and more like McSANE.

The Michigan January vote cannot stand as is, which seems to be the only scenario Clinton will accept. Biden, Edwards, Obama, and Richardson all took their names off the Michigan ballot. Clinton and Dodd were the only ones on the ballot. The Michigan election did not reflect the will of the voters. Voters couldn't vote for their preferred candidate and some just stayed home because their candidate was not on the ballot.

If Clinton really cared about all 50 states having their say, then why did she say in an interview with George Stephanopoulos on 12-30-07 that it will be over by Feb. 5th? (see you tube keywords 'Clinton' 'february 5th')

Obama is winning because he had a 50-state strategy. It’s why he campaigned in states like mine, Utah, that Democrats usually don't care about. It’s why he’s won 28 out of 44 states that have voted thus far, not including D.C. which he also won.

The only states that mattered to Clinton were the ones that voted up until Feb. 5th.

We must start thinking what and who is best for America. That is Hillary Clinton even if a write in vote needs to be done by all. Therefore, this time America’s votes are counted and we the people get back to being a country for the people, not for the politician!

Do you mean reverse discrimination on the Obama Campaign and his supporters against Bill Clinton who stated a fact that Jesse Jackson won South Carolina for histories sake, or against Gerry Farra 's partial statement that was taken out of context, or Hillary's comment to an AP article again taken out of context, as even educated black Americans stated these were dirty politics by the Obama Campaign. Yet the Obama top leaders of his campaign seem to be all young white adults, just were are the black Americans who should be with the other young white adults for his campaign. What is good for the goose is good for the gander! They should of looked to home before throwing stones at Hillary’s Campaign!

Posted by: Pam | May 15, 2008 9:47:43 PM

Leslie,

I agree with your sentiments, some of them. The anger though is not becoming...I certainly don't mean to come down on you. However, you come across as a hard-core Clinton supporter instead of someone that is alarmed by the possible direction of the party and its future. In anycase, you are correct. She has played the gender card all along. At first people were seeing it but not talking about it. Now, her supporters, and I am one of them(but I don't support this gender war bull), are out there screaming all sorts of injustice. The only injustice is what this will do to future generations.

Again, I am a Hillary supporter but more than that, I am a Democrat. I will never work against my own party. How stupid is that? I like Hillary, I support her but she is not the Democratic party. I will go bonkers if she does not win. I am more concerned with perserving the process AND progress for future generations, than I am at getting back at the establishment or the ol boys club. Some people just need to grow up and accept the fact that she mismanaged her campaign and she is the reason she is behind, not the DNC, not men, not Obama, not ANYONE.

George,
I agree with you as well. The best thing to do is scan a post, if he sounds outlandish and one sided, skip it. I don't read anything that is to heavily biased in one direction or another. I don't read anything that is to long because it is usually filled would outlandish lies and anger. Anyway, I agree and don't get to wrapped up in these people.

So, if all the conservatives who don't like McCain for their petty reasons, and all the women who don't like Obama for all their petty reasons, stay home, we can have an adult election.

How is it a winning strategy for Democrats in November to disenfranchise voters in two important states?

Punish the local parties and count the votes!

Posted by: twinmom48 | May 15, 2008 9:22:45 PM

This lady, Hillary has been fighting for the middle class, working class and the poor. BO get his support from elites, college kids and affluent. Now this man, Edwards is endorsing BO trying to take the wind from Hillary's 41 points win over BO. For the poor, he aint!

In Edwards' speech, he blinks his eyes so frequent that he knows from now on he is just a crooked politician. Elizabeth would be so ashamed of him and she did not show up.

This man, BO can not win the nomination and he is not qualified from his 57 states, Afghanistan gaffe, his audacity of Rev Wright and his bittergate . Another man, Edwards rushes in and gang tackle a woman. It happened last time when Joe Andrew ambushed Hillary for BO in Indiana primary. Still she pulled out a win.

The party can't wait and let people vote and they can't afford to let people's voices heard.

Americans believe in democracy, for the people, of the people and by the people. We hold the principle self-evident. These filthy politicians are going to put the party above people. 2M people are silenced in order to take the momentum away from Hillary. It is action which is a crime not the words. They are doing it to 2M people.

Now, you either vote for an all American, that is Hillary or the filthy politicians, that is BO & Edwards company. I say: there is no way to treat a gallant lady who works so hard.

Tell me your choice?

Moreover, about lies from OBAMA, I have about 70 of them which shall bore us to death. His lies are insidious and well-planned for political and economical profits. There are so many frauds in BO's short career, 4 year Junior national senator for president; the young but not innocent. Give me a break. Don't let this guy sweetie into the oval office. He is going to have problems with women.

Hillary Clinton's campaign tactics and personal integrity, or I should say lack thereof, are what has caused her to lose this nomination. I'm a 50 year old white woman and would love to see a female President, but could not vote for Hillary. She has set women back tremendously with her pathetic "victimhood", her pandering and her outright lies.

OBAMA '08 for a better America!

Posted by: Mary | May 15, 2008 8:14:31 PM

John Edwards is not Borak Obama and their views and backgrounds are very different so his endorsement does not make me vote for Obama, a 2 year junior senator with no experience, questionable friends and a person who has not been honest. John McCain is honest and an American hero. If Hillary is not endorsed by the Democrats, he will be out next President because he plans on only serving one term and he is beholden to no one so he will do what is best for the country and he will bring the Democats and Republicans together, as Hillary would. Obama can't because he doesn't know how and has never done it.

Hillary supporters WILL NEVER VOTE FOR OBAMA! We can't trust him because he hasn't been honest. He's a politician of the worst sort because he presents himself as non political. He sure worked Reverend Wright and maybe that's why the Reverend has let people know that his denunciation of him is only political.

We will personally work against the super delegates that go over to Obama because they don't have our best interest at heart. Everyone knows that Obama wouldn't be where he is today if we had known before what we now know about him.

wasn't it clinton who said if you cant stand the heat get out of the kitchen....Ha. now the mean big boys wont let poor little Hillary in the clubhouse. Doesnt matter I'm glad she stayed in. It showed that you have 2 flawed candidates and has helped my man McCain to the white house, get on the train.

Posted by: jason republican | May 15, 2008 6:43:54 PM

Enough with Florida and Michigan! The Clintons are the biggest pair of whiners I have ever seen. They were willing to write them off when they didn't matter. Now Bill is crying about them. Spare me.

Posted by: AG | May 15, 2008 5:59:21 PM

NO WAY should Florida and Michigan delegates be seated pursuant to the "fraudulent" primaries they held. ALL CANDIDATES knew those states had been sanctioned -- the State Committees for each state knew -- heck -- the WHOLE COUNTRY knew that if FL and MI insisted upon holding primaries contrary to the rules of the DNC, they would be sanctioned. Yes, the voters of FL and MI should be FURIOUS -- but at not at the candidates -- they should be furious at their state committee which basically thumbed their collective noses at the DNC, their governing authority. The rest of the 48 states (plus territories) managed to remain within DNC guidelines in holding their primaries, and it is a slap in the faces of these rule-abiding states if FL and MI get the same benefits. It's just another glimpse into the character (or lack thereof) of Mrs. Clinton that after she AGREED to the sanctions, she now wants to reverse them. This type of hypocrisy is one of the many reasons I did NOT vote for Mrs. Clinton. Yes, I believe FL and MI should have SOME representation, but not at the level Mrs. Clinton is suggesting. FL and MI MUST receive some punishment -- it is only right and just -- otherwise, how can the DNC remain a viable authority figure if it cannot exercise disciplinary measures against those who won't follow the rules?

Posted by: drzoon | May 15, 2008 5:44:56 PM

Accountable: Forgive me if I'm wrong, but if you are saying that Obama is a fellow teammate of Democrats in general, I strongly disagree with you. Although I've always voted Democrat in all federal elections, there comes a time when your country and your principals are much more important than your party affiliation. Obama has presented such a case. I would much prefer that Hillary represent our party, but if she is not the nominee, then a centrist Republican would be infinitely better than an inexperienced, ruthless, deceptive, divisive Obama.

NOW IT'S ALL FAIR IN LOVE & WAR , BUT WHEN BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY BECOMES THE WAYS & MEANS OF DEMEANING YOUR FELLOW TEAMMATE, YOU HAVE NOW BECOME SOMETHING WORSE THAN THE CAUSE WITH WHICH WHAT MIGHT HAVE BROUGHT YOU TOGETHER. WHEN SOMEONE MAKE A DECISION , THAT MAY HAVE CONSEQUENCES W/ WHICH YOU DID NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT,,,,"YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE", WHEN THAT VOTE AGAINST MI. & FL. FIRST CAME INTO PLAY ABOUT 2 YR AGO, THE MAIN ONE IN EVERYONE'S EYES OF BEING THE "ONE" , DID NOT STATE ANY SUCH HOOPLA OF THIS DECISION OVER THIS MATTER & NOW,,,,WELL GUESS HOW STUPID YOU LOOK, HATE TO SAY IT, BUT GET A MIRROR, I'VE BEEN THERE MYSELF, TRUST ME I KNOW!!!!

I beg to differ....If the shoe were on the other foot BO would be screaming racism if he needed the delegates and votes!!!
Florida and Michigan is the worst fiasco ever! I am so angry about it. That is the reason I changed from a Dem to independent and I will not vote for any MA. Dem in this election or any other.
The voters are pissed! Ma voted for Hillary in the Primary and the duffs reps here back OBAMA!
Florida and Mi. voted and then they do not get acknowledge.
So is the DNC going to poo poo them and still expect them to back their boy in the GE!??

Posted by: HP Boston | May 15, 2008 4:36:31 PM

This democratic party is NOT democratic.

It encourages its selected delegates and super-delegates to sell their votes to the highest bidder.

It is plausible that the DNC has sold
ITSELF to the highest bidder.

The DNC has disenfranchised two statesful of citizens from voting for their choice of nominee. Obviously, the DNC is higher than the Law of the Land... the Constitution!

The DNC is a bunch of fractured phonies
pushing the will of its wee minds onto the public. I will not be a part of it; If I cannot have the candidate I feel our country needs, I will take MY wee mind across the road and settle for someone who may not set my heart on fire and not accomplish very much. But he will not scar this country as much as Obama will.

I live in Illinois and have witnessed the questionable elections in which BoZo
has participated first hand.... from his beginnings as the "Emil Jones Kingpin" gifted with hijacked bills which had been initiated and struggled over by other state senators.

I have been here when he deposited monies which had supposedly been intended by Rezko to heat his broken down tenements and their freezing mostly black and latino tenants. This was done under his watch!

I have been here when Bozo took his trip to Kenya to visit his cousin Odinga just before his bloody battle to become prime minister. He ran under the credo of "Change Agent". Familiar?
Posters in this blog have threatened to riot and burn should Obama lose.....

Then, of course, Bush ran under the same rant:..... "CHANGE"....and look what THAT got us. (Why trade one BOzo in for another?

I hope that Hillary proves you all wrong but should she not, I will happily direct my feet to the republican side of the street!

THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING:

An Ohio-based group of Democratic Hillary Clinton supporters say they’ll work actively against Sen. Barack Obama if he becomes the nominee, arguing that Clinton has been the subject of “intense sexism” by party leaders and the media.

Led by Boomer-aged women, the group, Clinton Supporters Count Too, is holding a press conference in Columbus at noon to release this statement.

Organizers Cynthia Ruccia, 55, and Jamie Dixey, 57, both from the Columbus area, say they’re coordinating women, men, minorities, union members and others in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida and Michigan – all important swing states next November – to impress upon Democratic party leaders what they think has been outright discrimination – and not of the racial kind.

“We have been vigilant against expressions of racism, and we are thrilled that the society has advanced that way” in accepting Obama as a serious candidate,” Ruccia said. “But it’s been open season on women, and we feel we need to stand up and make a statement about that, because it’s wrong.”

With growing calls for Clinton to leave the race, she said, women feel like “we’re being told to sit down, shut up, and get with the program.”

Fred, naive grasshoppa you.

Haven't you realized that nothing cynical has worked against Obama?

Just ask the Repugnicans who lost the House seats in Louisiana and Mississippi.

You'll soon be getting the message in November. By then, your knuckles will be down to the bone from dragging them thinking rhetoric will stop YES WE CAN.

Repeat after me........NO YOU CAN'T

YES WE CAN!

Reader in Ga.:

Look, you have missed the part in which Mr. O said he'd gone to "57 States" but still had to visit Alaska and Hawaii. Florida and Michigan are NOT among the 57 states. They do NOT count. Using his words, those voters can go and ---- themselves if they want to. It's not HIS problem.

I say: if you don't like him, don't vote for him in the GE if he makes it. Vote for McCain. Of course Dems will be fools if he is nominated.

Mariann Pepitone:

Given that I have been college educated and am not backwoods as you had alluded to, I am fully aware Obama is mulatto; however, it is the black voters within the US that are not aware of this. Obama is more white than he is black, culturally speaking, given that he was raised in Hawaii by his Caucasian mother and grand-mother.
It took him marrying an affluent African-American woman in the US who prompted him to attend the African liberation church in order to identify with his black brothers and their history and struggle within this nation.
Now I have nothing against one getting in touch with their roots...but his roots are not here they are in Africa where his father and ancestors originated from. His mother is American....this makes Obama African-American (American Caucasian mother/African father)....
In his books he has claimed to be African-American.
Before you defend your candidate for what you deem as an insult...you need to do your own research! Obama could have claimed either culture he wanted to. He claimed to be African-American and is proud of it as he should be. That is who he touts to be, so that is who he is.
That is not up for argument or debate.

I again reiterate that in the past African-American men....many of whom had been born with mixed blood from mixed cultures earned (through blood, sweat, and tears) the right to vote within the US before women....African-American or Caucasian.
This also is the truth...not up for argument or debate.

If history serves this is the natural process of events...an African-American man before any female will earn the right for the office of presidency.

These are the facts.

Sally,

So what? There are 30% of Republicans that support Obama. I haven't started counting Independents yet.

You're washed out. It's best you stay home.

Supporting McCan't is like supporting Clinton. Another loss no matter what you say what you're GOING TO DO!

Accept the inevitable sweetie.

DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS - TAKE NOTICE

-----------ROE v. WADE-----------

Two of the current justices of the United States Supreme Court will probably retire within the next four years. One is 75 and the other is 84. This will give the new president the ability to nominate two new justices. If McCain is elected you can be sure the new justices will be just like Roberts, Scalia and Thomas: willing to overturn ROE v. WADE. So think when you vote!!!

The Clintons are handing the election to McCainand the Republicans; that is what they want, right?

Posted by: letranger | May 15, 2008 3:38:01 PM

POLITICS 101 FOR OBAMA SUPPORTERS: FIRST: Obama wins the nomination without winning the popular vote, and based upon early unrepresentative causes wins. SECOND: As polls show, at least 28% of Hillary supporters refuse to vote for Obama, and many instead vote for McCain. THIRD: This leaves Obama with the AA, the teenyboppers, and the party elite. FOURTH: The Republican Party is energized by the prospect of running against an inexperienced, deceptive and divisive politician, with a list of shady associations longer than a football field. FIFTH: With much ammunition, the 527s pepper the airwaves with Obama's gaffes, Rev. Wright, William "the bomb" Ayers, black liberation theology, the most liberal member of the Senate, Bittergate, etc. FIFTH: The night before the election, the Obama teenyboppers have mass celebratory keg parties all over the country, get too drunk, and are unable to vote in the election the next day. SIXTH: Obama is defeated and John McCain takes the oath of office in front of millions of cheering Republicans and Democrats. SEVENTH: Patriotic and savvy observers around the country breathe a collective sigh of relief in realization of how narrowly they had adverted disaster. EIGHTH: Many Obama supporters have to attend 12-step programs in an effort to wean themselves off of their addiction to responding to all criticism with attacks, insults, and race cards.

With Obama's advisors indicating that on May 20, shortly after Kentucky and Oregon, he will declare himself the party's nominee, and the DNC Rules Committee not deciding what to do about Florida (a major swing state, with Ohio and Pennsylvania, in November) and Michigan until May 31( which she is waiting for regarding their delegates and popular vote), that 11 day period promises to be a confused and confusing time.

In the interim, if one of her surrogates does not bring up the black liberation theology preached at Trinity during Obama's 20-year attendance there, the Republicans will certainly do so before November.

Trinity United Church of Christ (TUCC) says that its doctrine is based upon black liberation theology, as demonstrated by the statement below which appears on TUCC’s official website: The vision statement of Trinity United Church of Christ is based upon the systematized liberation theology that started in 1969 with the publication of Dr. James Cone’s book, "Black Power and Black Theology" and continued with his 1990 book "A Black Theology of Liberation."

That vision statement, derived directly from Cone's thinking, includes the following: "Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him.... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love."

If, as seems increasingly likely, Obama becomes the Democratic candidate running to become president, sound bites, which include bits of the TUUC vision statement that Obama, by his attendance (in sharp contrast to Oprah who took a pass on attending Trinity) implicitly endorsed will certainly catch the eye of white voters. Will this be the October surprise?

Posted by: Truth | May 15, 2008 3:31:02 PM

Common Sense: Polls show that at least 28% of Hillary supporters will not vote for Obama under any circumstances. So, Obama gets the party elite, the teenyboppers and the African Americans. McCain gets the Republican vote, majority of the Democrat white working class vote, and millions of Hillary Clinton supporters. See you in November . . .

I think the airport story might be off but I don't believe much in his book any one can write a story like remember a million little pieces

Posted by: Bishop | May 15, 2008 3:27:37 PM

Re the bizarre comment below: "Eileen: Fact check: The Kenya airport would not allow Obama's mother to get on the plane therefore he born in Kenya before she was able to fly to Hawaii. Maybe she didn't register him in Kenya that's why he isn't a citizen there. This was all checked out several weeks ago by a commentor and there were more facts about him."

Obama's mother was not in Kenya when she was pregnant. She was a young married American woman living in the United States with her husband, who was from Kenya. So there was no "plane" that she missed just before their child's birth, because she didn't have to take one. Barack Obama was born in the United States.

Please, in the future, use your good common sense in thinking about rumors like this.

If it was really true that Obama was not born in the US, then his opponents would have known about it right away and he could not run for president. (Just like Arnold Schwartzenegger cannot, since he was born in Austria.) Any opponent or anyone else could have challenged him on it in a heartbeat and had him out of the race.

In reality, though, the story is completely false and he was born here. He is as American as you or I, assuming that you are American also.

If you would like to know more about Barack Obama's childhood, you may want to read his book, Dreams of My Father. It is a good read.

YOU ARE CORRECT. Don't forget how Sharpton and Farrakhan would be protesting, and some would be advocating rioting in the streets because black voters were being disenfranchised in Michigan and Florida.

No I didn't know that then I will have to disagree with her on that . He should get the uncomitted.

TO ALL OBAMA SUPPORTERS: Please keep up the vitriol and invective towards us Hillary supporters. It only strengthens our resolve to do everything possible to assist in the defeat of Obama in November. So keep it up; we like it!

Posted by: Sally | May 15, 2008 3:18:54 PM

Obamaites are writing nonsense as usual – they are a group of strident, self-serving, delusional individuals still wet behind the ears. You may just get what you wish for – maybe you will all get the chance to role play flower children of the sixties – don’t blame the other half of democrats that didn’t vote for your man, who, by the way, has some very suspicious ties to corruption in Chicago.

If the Clintons and Obama have switched places, you bet your bottom dollar his camp will be doing exactly the same thing. Ask Obami how he ran his state and US senate seats – by intimidating supporters of his opponents. Just like what you people are doing – right out of Chicago.

If Obamaites continue to be so nasty and shortsighted, come November, you will be crying, because Clinton supporters will be laughing on the sidelines, enjoying the debacle of Obama's downfall and humiliation.

Don't try Roe v wade on the women who fought for it or you don't get us at all

Posted by: Bishop | May 15, 2008 3:18:38 PM

That's right, if the situation were reversed; that is, if Clinton were in Obama's current postion with respect to states won, delegate and popular vote totals, the Clinton's would care nothing about seating the delegates in Michigan and Florida. Their only concern now is to to get those votes to count.

The Clintons did not care about Florida and Michigan until Hillary lost on Super Tuesday, and kept losing. Now they suddenly care about those voters, but it's not the voters they care about, it's the vote count they want to add to their tally. Unfair, unethical, uninspired.

No sexism in this at all. I'd love to see a woman president, but not that woman, particularly not with the baggage that comes with her.

Posted by: KDP | May 15, 2008 3:18:19 PM

Bishop do you realize that Hillary has said that none of the "uncommitted" votes cast in Michigan should go to Obama because we don't know who those folks had in mind when they voted.

How can you argue that Michigan should count because Obama campaigned there under "uncommitted" and then deny him those very votes? You can't have it both ways "sweetie".

Posted by: Ray | May 15, 2008 3:16:57 PM

Is this the next step in the process of turning the bi-racial man into the white race hating, Unpatriotic, Anti-Christ? Very funny. This is what Hillary's voting base is? How pathetic?

I for one want be voting for the woman who authorized a war she didn't fully agree with. The war that has killed over 4000 of our troops. The war that is a major factor in all the economic issues we are currently facing. Clinton saying Oops, I didn't mean it, Just doesn't fly with me.

I wont be voting for the dishonest woman who lied about having to run from sniper fire. The woman who agreed that Florida and Michigan should be penalized for breaking the rules, and then changed her mind when she got behind in votes.

I wont be voting for the woman who has shown so many different faces during this campaign, that I cant tell her from SYBIL.

The woman who had to result to running a nasty and foul campaign that would make the Republicans of the 60's era proud.

The woman that was so arrogant and cocky that she didn't even bother campaigning in my home state of Iowa, cause she thought her last name would get her by.

You women want to find every excuse under the sun to justify why your golden Candidate, The Chosen candidate is behind. The media is unfair to her. Its okay for her to tell lies, cause she was tired. Its okay for her to authorize the war, she really didn't mean it.

You want to hold Senator Obama to such high moral standards, when your own candidate cant live up to them. When your own candidates judgment has been called to question since she was allowing Bill to see the "head" doctor in the oval office.

How many times has he cheated on The Great Hillary Clinton? It says allot about a woman's character when she allows a man to constantly run over her the way he has. Maybe it was for political gain.

I wonder how many interns president Clinton has lined up to play a game of hide the sausage with. While his wife is in the oval office trying to figure out if she wants to destroy IRAN.

The better candidate my ass. How pathetic you hypocrits are.

Suffice to say, it doesn't matter anyway. Clinton is now a distant memory.

Common Sense: You are wrong as usual. Hillary should run as an independent to knock Hussein Obama out of the presidency. And she is a fool if she doesn't do it. Obama would do it to her and most blacks would. He is no saint by no means. He has a racist background and was racial as a young boy. Its people like you and this generation of drugged college students that don't care about his country. People like WVA and the battleground states are smart and they know what he would do to this country. The good news would be for them to switch to McCain who would be a more experienced president with the knowledge from day one. Obama would need extensive help.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | May 15, 2008 3:14:25 PM

Let her have the delegates, already. I think Mr. Obama should come out and say boldly, "It's unacceptable that the people of Florida and Michigan will not be represented at the conventioned, so I support Senator Clinton's call for them to be seated."

So what if it erases his lead? She will stand disgraced because everyone will know she only wanted them in order to catch up to him. Meanwhile, he will be the statesman, graciously handing her what is not fairly hers even though it may be to his detriment. There will be an asterisk next to her delegate count from that point on.

Everyone in the Establishment will go "Huh?" but the people of Florida and Michigan will go "Huh... Maybe I can vote for him come fall."

Posted by: Igor | May 15, 2008 3:13:56 PM

I guess they could not have held a re-vote

Posted by: Bishop | May 15, 2008 3:13:03 PM

My post at 3:20 was taken from Obama's site he also made robo calls in MI. so the votes should be counted.

Posted by: Bishop | May 15, 2008 3:10:42 PM

Hillary supporters continue to make irrelevant arguments. None of them has addressed:

#1. Why the rules regarding disqualifying states holding their primaries before Feb. 5, 2008 should be suspended for Hillary?

#2. Why Hillary's own statements that Michigan and Florida would not count should now be ignored?

#3. How in god's name will the DNC be able to control the primary schedule the next time around when every other state decides to run their primary before Feb. 5th just for the hell of it?

Those are the issues ladies. I understand you feel you have been cheated but those are the issues.

We are a nation of laws and the force of those laws don't turn on our whims or fancy. You are crippling the DNC in future democratic primaries and you don't even see it.

The mess we have this year is nothing like the mess we will have in 4 or 8 years from now when Puerto Rico, Texas, and Ohio decide that Iowa and New Hampshire should take a back seat to them.

How can you do this to our party just to save the candidacy of one person? Help me understand.

Posted by: Ray | May 15, 2008 3:09:56 PM

Mariann: I agree with you. Better a centrist Republican, than an inexperienced, deceptive, ruthless and divisive Obama.

Posted by: Terry | May 15, 2008 3:08:47 PM

dl: You are always so wrong. Hillary won in NH therefore they feel if she doesn't get the nomination they would then vote for Obama in preference to McCain. I would vote McCain and there are a lot of Hillary's supporters that would do the same. Many of the battleground states that didn't want Obama to begin with might switch their vote to McCain which would throw the election for Obama. That is the good news.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | May 15, 2008 3:07:23 PM

If Hillary is not the nominee, then the time will have come for all of her supporters to do everything in their power to assist in the defeat of Obama and his minions in November. I agree with Emily:

Hillary; first choice
McCain; second choice
Obama; never

Posted by: Sally | May 15, 2008 3:06:15 PM

Hillary; first choice
McCain; second choice
Obama -- NEVER

Posted by: Emily | May 15, 2008 3:04:27 PM

Awwww Mariann........

You'll whine and whine until the cows come home, won't you?

Why did Hillary fail you?
Why did she mismanage her campaign into $20 mil in debt?
Why did she lie to your face time after time about Bosnian sniper fire?
Why is she last in:
delegates
popular vote (with MI and FL)
States won

Why are all of her formerly committed superdelegates moving to Obama?

These are the real questions you should be asking yourself. From there, you'll be able to answer the questions about Obama.

Posted by: Common Sense | May 15, 2008 3:04:19 PM

Oh, I'm sorry I thought that the race was about who would be a better president, not sexism vs. racism. Is it a surprise that the party that promotes this type of reaction to everything is attacking itself now? How petty and spiteful. I'm a right-wing White Male, but I'll tell you, I'd rather have Obama than McCain or Hillary, and no one was more surprised about that than me. The White candidates do not represent me, they haven't for a long time. Obama will have to work harder as Black president, but maybe that will make him a better one.
