Obama Florida Co-Chair Signs On to Bush Impeachment

June 10, 2008 10:57 PM

Congressman Robert Wexler, D-Fla. -- the Florida co-chair for the presidential campaign of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. -- today announced that he has signed on to support the Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush, introduced this week by Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio.

"President Bush deliberately created a massive propaganda campaign to sell the war in Iraq to the American people and the charges detailed in this impeachment resolution indicate an unprecedented abuse of executive power," Wexler said. "A decision by Congress to pursue impeachment is not an option, it is a sworn duty. It is time for Congress to stand up and defend the Constitution against the blatant violations and illegalities of this Administration. Our Founding Fathers bestowed upon Congress the power of impeachment, and it is now time that we use it to defend the rule of law from this corrupt Administration."

Wexler previously ran a nationwide campaign to hold impeachment hearings for Vice President Dick Cheney.

Kucinich's 35 Articles of Impeachment include: "Article II -- Falsely, Systematically, and with Criminal Intent Conflating the Attacks of September 11, 2001, With Misrepresentation of Iraq as a Security Threat as Part of Fraudulent Justification for a War of Aggression; ... Article IX -- Failing to Provide Troops With Body Armor and Vehicle Armor; ... Article XXII -- Creating Secret Laws; ... Article XXX -- Misleading Congress and the American People in an Attempt to Destroy Medicare; ... Article XXXII -- Misleading Congress and the American People, Systematically Undermining Efforts to Address Global Climate Change."

And so on.

Obama last year expressed his opposition to impeaching Bush and Cheney. "I think you reserve impeachment for grave, grave breaches, and intentional breaches of the president's authority," he told USA Today "I believe if we began impeachment proceedings we will be engulfed in more of the politics that has made Washington dysfunction. We would once again, rather than attending to the people's business, be engaged in a tit-for-tat, back-and-forth, non-stop circus."

Obama spokesman Bill Burton says Obama's opinion on the matter remains the same, notwithstanding Wexler's support for Obama's campaign.

One of the biggest things overlooked in the Iraq debacle is that the US invaded a country run by the minority in the middle east called the Sunii to replace it with Hamaz and Hezbollah courtesy of Palestine and Iran are Shiite. Why oh why would anyone without an ulterior motive bring down Sunii to implement a Shiite terrorist gov't in Iraq? They had a perfectly fine infrastructure with a leader who is less of a threat than Pakistan's...
The only answer is STUPIDITY and PROFITEERING. The stupidity of it is the long term effect this greed will cause the US for many years.

Wonder how much pressure Obama will resist before throwing Wexler under the bus???

Dave, you hit it right on the nail! The House voted 251-166 to send Rep. Kucinich's (D-OH) 35 articles of impeachment to the House Judiciary Commitee, which is chaired by Rep. John Conyers (D-MI). This is the same committee in which articles of impeachment against VP Cheney were sent last year.

You are also correct when you wrote: "The Democrats are afraid of the truth reaching the general public." The Democratic leadership knows that these articles of impeachment are bogus. They don't want the public to know how they duped the electorate in order to sweep control of both Houses. The Democrats ran on impeachment and being anti-war, and that energized the left wing of the Party. This was especially true in the Senate where there were several extremely close races all going for the Democrats. And considering the current makeup (Dem 49 Rep 49 Ind 2) without an energized left the Republicans would have easily maintained conrol of the Senate.

Impeachment hearings are now dead. Do you honestly believe that the Democrats in the House want to divert attention from their re-election campaigns? And then there is the media coverage. Do you honestly believe that the Democrats want the media spending the next several months covering impeachment hearings and effectively burying Sen. Obama's message of "hope" and "change?"

I just returned from a second tour in Iraq. You can all say what you want about Bush as I feel that one reson I was there is to give you that right. I do not agree that Bush has been a bad president. Its quit easy to talk but to make the decisions Bush has had to make takes more than talk The congressmen and or others who call for impeachment do this are not only wrong but they arn't very smart They are only after the votes and power, they really don't give a damn about the nation. People who elect these people over and over are no different. Go ahead and elect Obama and see what happens. All you liberal womem better get used to Burkas.
I guess you other liberals can all carry sticks and beat em when they get out of line. This makes about as much sense as what your saying.

Wow -- if Kucinich was so concerned about all this "wrongdoing" -- where has he been? What took him so long? Not very efficient for a Congressman! I think it's all politics, timed for the election and a bunch of the usual deomcratic hogwash!

I think the Iraq war was a setup, and certain parties such as Cheney knew darn good and well what they were going to do, and when they were going to do it, and they arm-twisted Congress into signing off on whatever they wanted. I have my doubts as to what happened on 9/11, I think the whole thing stinks like corruption on a global scale, I think the wisest thing we could do at this point is put troops on boats/planes bound for the United States, and then have down ALL the sordid details, line by line, item by item, on C-SPAN, have Congress do whatever it needs to do to start issuing arrest warrants, freeze defense spending, and generally clean some house on the whole institution there, in a lasting and permanent way.

I hope the Republicians agree to the hearings. It will finally bring into the light all of this information. But I will bet as soon as the Republicans agree to the hearings the Democrats will pull the impeachment off the table. Like what happened in 2006 when they tried to impeach the VP. The Democrats are afraid of the truth reaching the general public. God knows every time someone tries to tell the truth they get shouted down or disrupted.

Wexler is an idiot and an embarassment
to South Florida. The sooner this fool shuts up the better. Obama deserves an idiot like him as his cochair. I still remember his rantings during the 2000 recount. I'm disgusted with the Democratic party and will be switching parties this fall.

Posted by: joseph | Jun 11, 2008 6:34:38 PM

His term is over in 7 months!

By the time he would be impeached and convicted, is there a point?

Posted by: Jon Klement | Jun 11, 2008 6:07:17 PM

do any of you REMEMBER that not only the US but other major countries said Iraq had WMD's., or do you all have amnesia. Seems like NO ONE REMEMBERS THOSE DAYS DO THEY. Does anyone remember 9-11???? How horrible of a day that was. How proud I am of our President for keeping us safe, because there have been many ATTACKS that have been STOPPED that we don't know about and that we don't need to know about. If Obama gets to be our President, GOD HELP US, because he seems to think (just like the rest of the liberals) that we don't have any ENEMIES and if we do, we need to appease them and talk to them. Those terrorist are LAUGHING IN OUR FACES everytime a McClellen opens his mouth or anyother lib. They are feeding into the hateful terrorists and hateful Americans that hate this country. GOD HELP OUR USA, because we are going to need it in the next Presidency if Obama takes over and our STOCK MARKET CRASHES. I have yet to hear anything meaningful and truthful come out of his mouth that isn't going to cost us MANY MANY TAXES on everything and anything that is provided to us. GOD HELP US.

Lets see: Anne you said in your idiotic response:

"Further note that Saddam never used such weapons against his "Own People" as the idiots in the press maintain, he used them against the Kurds which were people who came from Turkey and were trying to establish an autonomous nation in the north of Iraq.

Any national leader would have responded in similar fashion to an open invasion of their nation. It seems both the press, as well as readers of their foolishness, are incapable of noting the difference in spelling between "Kurd" and Iraqi", or comprehending that they are a totally different people.

By your reasoning should we mustard gas the millions of Mexican Illegal immigrants invading the USA ?? You are completely guilty of the accusations you make.

Why waste our taxpayer money when the damage has already been done. Everyone in America and the world (except those in intense denial) knows that Bush is a liar and a fraud who was led astray by Cheney!! End of an Error (1-20-09) will be here soon! Countdown anyone?

This is addressed to "Remember November"

You commit a grave error on several counts in your remarks. Repeated investigations by UN weapons inspectors, as well as our own military inspectors failed to find any so called "Weapons of Mass Destruction". Note that those inspections were made well before any allegations of foreign involvement in the removal of anything. Also note that those accusations remain pure speculation.

Furthermore the US knew exactly what weapons Saddam had because we provided them. The US supplied both the mustard gas as well as the helicopters to apply it, (in bold defiance of the Geneva convention).

The list of weapons supplied by the US is available on the net under the US Government site for anyone willing to look it up. Both Reagan and Bush Sr. authorized those grants because at the time Saddam was fighting the Iranian hoards for us in a proxy war.

Further note that Saddam never used such weapons against his "Own People" as the idiots in the press maintain, he used them against the Kurds which were people who came from Turkey and were trying to establish an autonomous nation in the north of Iraq.

Any national leader would have responded in similar fashion to an open invasion of their nation. It seems both the press, as well as readers of their foolishness, are incapable of noting the difference in spelling between "Kurd" and Iraqi", or comprehending that they are a totally different people.

Lastly, I submit that anything read in the press or seen on television be held as suspect until confirmed. Note that every year in congress there is a bill submitted which simply states that all government propaganda be so labeled, and each year it fails.

We then are shown this and that scene supposedly from a war front and believe it as real. Most of those scenes are total fabrications done in a studio.

Americans today are very gullible people with a pathetic ability to question what they are told. A vast change from the fiercely independent men and women who built and left us the greatest nation on earth.

The question asked in our national anthem is appropriate indeed!

Big...withdrawing our troops in an orderly manner is not abandioning our troops, it is getting them out of arms way. We went into this war trying to help the Iraqs get on their feet and support their own country. They have done nothing short of having elections, which were a fiasco, to fufil their part of the bargain.

You are a typical democrat. Never want to give credit where credit is due. Have you had your head in the sand? You need to listen up to the persons returning from Iraq that are telling of the great accompishments that we have help the Iraqi people achieve. Our nation by God is here and was established for a purpose for the past and future. That being to help give all people the God given right to be free and not oppressed. I would venture to say if you had been an Iraqi you would have praised the day american Men came to offer you a better life. No more cutting off limbs. cutting out tongues, raping your family members, killing you family for pleasure, strutting soldiers and leader that hated you and used you for their good. How can you be so stupid to say that that voting is all that has been accomplished in Iraq. The people can run their bussiness with out being beaten and robbed by the hateful goverment . The children can go to school and be with out fear of coming home and finding their mom and dad dead or worse. They now have the freedom to have things like cell phones and such that they were not allowed to have . Couldn't listen to the radio or television with out it being censored or forbidden. Stop listening to the democrats and get information for your self. Iraq is a better place to live and america can be proud for we have freed a people with the help of the almighty God. Do some research and teach yourself about the Iraq then and the Iraq now. Our president is an honorable man. He has made some mistakes but we all would have in his same position. Can't please everyone for we all have different ways of looking at things. So he does the best to his ability to to what he thinks is best and right. God Bless this man for that... We are there now on peace keeping and only help if called on by Iraqis. I am sure those times arise for the insurgents are persistant but getting fewer. We need to see this through and stand by them till they are able to go it alone. and they will , It is closer but nothing yet to set a time on for it is a hostile world there with Iran , Syria etc . as neighbors and being supported by Russia. They have tasted freedom and they choose to be free now. Please give credit where credit is due. Our president does not lead all alone. He answers to many. He is a good man and Will have his place in history as a Great Man with a vision to help give freedom to and oppressed nations of innocent people. I say Lead on MR, President for God is you guide.

REMEMBER NOVEMBER:

Australian Paul McGeough's article in the Sydney Morning Herald dated March 26, 2002, included the following:

"The $US500,000 doled out in this impoverished community yesterday means that the besieged Iraqi leader now has contributed more than $US10 million to grieving Palestinian families since the new intifada began 18 months ago."

$10 million in 18 months! Now that is supporting terrorism!

Power2people, and the Bush Administration NEVER said Iraq had anything to do with 9/11. When Tim Russert asked VP Cheney, "Do we have any evidence linking Saddam Hussein or Iraqis to this operation (9/11)?" Cheney immediately said, "No."

Posted by: James Danley | Jun 11, 2008 3:10:11 PM

Remember how Bush destroyed the "nation that was one" By waging war on a country that had absolueltey nothing to do with 911. He lied. His own Press secretary is now admitting to the lies and manipulation he engaged in. Impeached? Too late for that!He should be jailed... with Cheney... and Rumsfeld. He should pay back the $1trillion he used to pay for the war. Rove would have never allowed a Democrat to get away with what bush has. Throw him in Jail, throw away the key.

Posted by: power2people | Jun 11, 2008 3:01:00 PM

I remember reading in the papers how Saddaam was paying upwards of $30,000 to the families of the Palistinian suicide bombers to help them rebuild. Mr Ed Bradley on CBS reported on the existance of WMD's in Iraq prior to the war and later flip flopped accusing the Bush Administration of fabricating evidence.

Posted by: Gordon Francis | Jun 11, 2008 2:50:17 PM

Oh my dear GOD! You can not I repeat can not believe any thing you read in the papers. NOT THEN AND NOT NOW! You were Bamboozled and HOODWINKED!!
