Obama Florida Co-Chair Signs On to Bush Impeachment
June 10, 2008 10:57 PM
Congressman Robert Wexler, D-Fla. -- the Florida co-chair for the presidential campaign of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. -- today announced that he has signed on to support the Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush, introduced this week by Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio.
"President Bush deliberately created a massive propaganda campaign to sell the war in Iraq to the American people and the charges detailed in this impeachment resolution indicate an unprecedented abuse of executive power," Wexler said. "A decision by Congress to pursue impeachment is not an option, it is a sworn duty. It is time for Congress to stand up and defend the Constitution against the blatant violations and illegalities of this Administration. Our Founding Fathers bestowed upon Congress the power of impeachment, and it is now time that we use it to defend the rule of law from this corrupt Administration."
Wexler previously ran a nationwide campaign to hold impeachment hearings for Vice President Dick Cheney.
Kucinich's 35 Articles of Impeachment include: "Article II -- Falsely, Systematically, and with Criminal Intent Conflating the Attacks of September 11, 2001, With Misrepresentation of Iraq as a Security Threat as Part of Fraudulent Justification for a War of Aggression; ... Article IX -- Failing to Provide Troops With Body Armor and Vehicle Armor; ... Article XXII -- Creating Secret Laws; ... Article XXX -- Misleading Congress and the American People in an Attempt to Destroy Medicare; ... Article XXXII -- Misleading Congress and the American People, Systematically Undermining Efforts to Address Global Climate Change."
And so on.
Obama last year expressed his opposition to impeaching Bush and Cheney. "I think you reserve impeachment for grave, grave breaches, and intentional breaches of the president's authority," he told USA Today "I believe if we began impeachment proceedings we will be engulfed in more of the politics that has made Washington dysfunction. We would once again, rather than attending to the people's business, be engaged in a tit-for-tat, back-and-forth, non-stop circus."
Obama spokesman Bill Burton says Obama's opinion on the matter remains the same, notwithstanding Wexler's support for Obama's campaign.

I agree totally with James Danley. That's exactly how the war in Iraq went down. I remember reading in the papers how Saddaam was paying upwards of $30,000 to the families of the Palistinian suicide bombers to help them rebuild. Mr Ed Bradley on CBS reported on the existance of WMD's in Iraq prior to the war and later flip flopped accusing the Bush Administration of fabricating evidence. There were also reports of huge convoys of trucks entering Syria from Iraq in the days leading up to the 2nd Gulf War. The news networks didn't find this worthy of coverage. Could this be how Sadaam got rid of his WMD? We know he had them. He used them against his own people as anyone who reads the headlines of that time can readily confirm!!! I would definitely equate those who deny Saddaam had WMD's to those who deny the Holocaust. These types of people get their information, it seems, from conspiracy theorists and not from factual news sources. Remember 911...remember how the nation was one.

Mary, our going into Iraq was NOT contingent solely on WMDs. In fact, as I mentioned early, it doesn't matter if there were no WMDs. The UN Security Council issued it final ultimatum in order to get Saddam Hussein to comply with ALL of the conditions of the 1991 cease fire. One of those conditions was for Saddam Hussein to PROVE he no longer had WMDs. He refused! President Bush issued his own ultimatum when the UN Security Council refused to follow through on its threat. When Saddam Hussein still refused to comply with ALL of the conditions, including PROVING that he no longer had WMDs, President Bush followed through on his threat.
If we hadn't gone into Iraq, we, and all of her neighbors, would still believe that Iraq had WMDs.
Another justification for going into Iraq was to oust Saddam Hussein who was harboring and supporting terrorists. Saddam allowed al Qaeda to have a training camp in northern Iraq. And he paid up to $25,000 to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers.

The impeachment proceedures should have been started as soon as we definitely knew there were no WMDs in Iraq. That war was for the benefit of Cheny's $40 milliom in stock in Haliburtion and other stocks with Cos. that were given contracts plus oil stocks. So many death, pernament injuries, destruction and dollars spent for an artifical and irrational reason. VERY SAD INDEED.

N. Waff, you wrote: "...let's begin impeachment of all the members of Congress." Every member of the House and 1/3 of the Senate are up for re-election this November. Use your vote!!

Seems I remeber 99% of the senate and congress were aware of the same intelligence Bush had, and most of it came from the previous administration.
And when America did strike back at Afganistan, and later when the statue of Sadam came down, all of America was cheering..Now the pot calls the kettle black..Biggest flip-flop in history..

Neil
Don't you know the fix is in and has been for a long time for Obama. How many Senate races are there only one real candidate. How many unknown first year Senators run for office and win their parties nomination? They money men backing Obama know they are going to get BIG Payoffs once he's in. He's going to make Bush/Cheney payoffs look like chump change and Tony Rezko will get his pardon.

== Impeach all of Congress ==
Since the US Congress were all equally aware of the intelligence and supported the decisions of president Bush, let's begin impeachment of all the members of Congress.

I beg to differ! I am from MI and no one and I mean NO ONE saw the election as fair. Everyone in MI thinks the DNC did the right thing by splitting the votes and giving HRC a slight advantage.
Don't use my state for your misguided and completely factless platform.
If you didn't VOTE in the state, then don't SPEAK for the state.

Dr. K,
I'll drink to that. obama is that desperate to do such move...he should be careful not to bump people from high places just like that or he might end up like JFK ... obama is real pathetic....

OBAMA IS JUST DIVERTING ATTENTION IN FLORIDA BECAUSE HE KNOWS HE'S LOSING BOTH FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN TO MCCAIN.
LET'S GIVE BUSH SOME CREDIT FOR MAKING OUT COUNTRY SAFE FROM TERRORISTS. OBAMA JUST GAVE US THE IDEA THAT IF HIS DECISION IS WRONG (WHICH IS MOST LIKELY TO HAPPEN IF HE BECOMES TEH PRESIDENT, GOR FORBID), HE WILL NEED TO BE IMPEACHED AS WELL.
HILLARY OR MCCAIN

I believe this nation and its people could use some manners and respect when discussing the Commander in Chief-- whether they agree or not with his policies, he made difficult decisions to safeguard our country with no future political aspirations or motive.

Well you believe wrong.
The man in the WH is totally lame.
The world has looked on in utter amazement at the man who has wrought such harm upon this earth!

dl, you wrote: "drilling now will help us in ...oh...20 years." Actually the very moment that the drilling begins (if not sooner -- i.e. when Congress approves the drilling) the oil speculators will begin dumping their oil futures and the price of OPEC's oil will tumble.

how could the selfish sen. clinton help obama anyway?

I am so glad you asked.
She could stand beside him and whisper the right answers in his ear, as Lieberman does for McCain.
It is only fair that he gets the same help, he can not claim a senior moment, just his stupidity.
He will need her when he goes to Iraq, she can tell him when to DUCK TOO!

Americans don't have the stomach to do the right or hard thing to protect this country... President Bush may suffer ill-reputation for keeping our country safe these past several years, but he chose to put the country ahead of his reputation or the whims/polls of political expediency. The Democrats, and our Congress in general, have much to learn from a man who had a 'backbone' in the face of global danger. The sandbox mentality won't work today--we can't just stay in our sandbox and expect that those playing with nukes and chemicals won't enter when they've shown their disregard for human life in general. Diplomacy without action is an oxymoron...President Bush used both and kept us safe. I believe this nation and its people could use some manners and respect when discussing the Commander in Chief-- whether they agree or not with his policies, he made difficult decisions to safeguard our country with no future political aspirations or motive.
