Democratic Congressman Won't Endorse Obama

June 10, 2008 3:55 PM

Rep. Dan Boren, D-Okla., told the Associated Press today that he has no intention of endorsing Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois.

And Democratic officials do not expect Boren to be the last to refrain from making a show of not backing his party's presumptive presidential nominee -- though Boren says he will vote for Obama for president in November.

Other House Democrats from swing districts -- Democrats who eked out victories in traditionally GOP districts, whom House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., calls her "majority makers" -- may refrain from even attending their party's convention in Denver in August.

Boren noted that Obama had earned the National Journal's controversial rating as "Most Liberal" U.S. Senator in 2007, and saying though he talks a good game on working with Republicans, "unfortunately, his record does not reflect working in a bipartisan fashion."

Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-Illinois, won Boren's congressional district with 66% of the vote during the Oklahoma primary in February. "Our nominee is not my first choice," Boren says.

He adds, "We're much more conservative. I've got to reflect my district. No one means more to me than the people who elected me. I have to listen them."

UPDATE: Obama spox Jen Psaki says, "Unfortunately, Congressman Boren has his facts wrong. Barack Obama has a long history of working across the aisle to get things done and make a difference for working people. He worked with Republicans in the Illinois Senate to provide health care for 150,000 children and parents who didn’t have it, and in the U.S. Senate he’s worked with some of the most conservative members —including Congressman Boren’s Republican colleague from Oklahoma, Tom Coburn — to restore accountability and openness to our government and crack down on the special interests. Senator Obama appreciates the support of Dan Boren’s father, former Governor and Senator David Boren, who is one of Obama’s key national security advisors and a model of tireless bipartisan leadership."

Let Hilary run as independant, concentrate firmly on High yield deformative Fuel increases and then vote for NONE OF THE ABOVE. Can I hear an Amen?

Well the reason oil companies won't pass the windfall tax immediately directly on to you is becasue the price is controlled by the market. People won't pay more then X for fuel at this point.
If you add more taxes the oil companies can't simply raise prices without losing a portion of their sales.
However if you use the tax holiday then people are already paying X for fuel so if the oil companies raise prices to fill this "tax free" gap then sales arent hurt at all and they just increased their profits without doing a single thing.
Also if we use a windfall tax that extra money goes back to the US government and in theory supports all the government programs you enjoy. Rather then under a tax holiday that money is lost from the oil companies and is made up by you, the American citizen. So tax free now but you pay later.
This is really very basic ecnomic points that you will learn in any 101 class.
So Obama has presented a solution that will funnel more money into the American government at the cost of big oil. Hillary has presented a temporary solution that will only take money away from the government and will have to be made up someplace else.
Also think about it. McCain is carrying on the same econmic policy as GW. And we all know how well that is working. So you ever stop to think why McCain is supporting the tax holiday too? You can bet it wasn't for the long term benefit of John Q Taxpayer.
So if HRC supporters are so determined to elect GW part 3, then you have no right to complain about the past 8 years. Becuase you will get 4 more years of it with John McCain.

Mary said: Three million former supporters of Hillary Clinton have stated through different net sites they will not vote for Senator Obama. That is three million in five days.

Senator McCain is going to leave Obama in the dust in November.

You act like this is something to brag about.

I will tell all of the Hillary supporters this. You people that wanted to see this woman eventually in the white house are screwing it up bad for her. If Obama doesn't get in the White House because all of these women and Hillary supporters are so mad that they won't vote for Obama, you can GUARANTEE that threats Hillary supporters are making now of voting for the other party or not voting at all go two ways.

YOU WILL NEED the support of us OBAMA supporters for her to win. Remember that while making your threats of revenge voting.

The media keeps talking about will Hillary's supporters will come out for Obama. If they don't Obama supporters will remember, believe that.

I am waiting to hear the change that Obama offers, but I am not hearing this.

Windfall profit tax will just cause the gas prices to go higher. Mr Peanut tried this and it didn't work. Is this Obama's change?

Posted by: Anders Scooper | Jun 11, 2008 7:19:30 PM

I commend Boren for not endorsing Obama. There is one honorable politician remaining in the Democratic Party.

Posted by: Anders Scooper | Jun 11, 2008 7:15:41 PM

If the gas tax summer holiday money would be kept by the oil companies why does Obama think the Windfall Profit Tax wont be added on. Maybe he will use diplomacy to ask them not to

Obama a bipartisan working across the aile??? I DON'T THINK SO.

Just because a few Republicans may vote with the Democrat Party on a far-left liberal position on an issue- Doesn't make that a bipartisan position.

Obama votes PURE FAR LEFT ALL THE TIME.

Yes; Boren, another sane mind who won't succumb to DNC/Media/elitist Dem pressure against HALF of the DEM voters aka original DEMS. Yes, this is very much like BUSH GORE. Obama is NOT our nominee!

Is anybody else sick of Obama bringing up claims of working across the aisle in Chicago as his main to claim. Good grief, he's been in the Senate almost four years. He's such a phony it's not even funny.

I say let's tell the pollsters and pundits that we're considering Obama because he's a good fistbumper, but that we either sit on our hands when it comes to President, or vote for the other guy, so we can get on with Hillary in four years.

Obama's campaign said, "Barack Obama has a long history of working across the aisle to get things done and make a difference for working people."

What BS! Obama does not have a long history of doing anything!

Obama, like George Bush, claims to be a uniter. However, what he really means is he will unite the radical left, just as Bush united the radical right. If Obama is elected we will see four more years of right/left war.

Vote McCain! He is hated equally by the left and right (just like Bill and Hillary) and is therefore likely to give us boring, but good, middle of the road government.

Funny side note here So no Democrat won an election in a so called red state by running as a democrat!! The Dems will lie and cheat to get what they want.

I thought the dems were yelling that the American people wanted liberalism!!

why arent the dem in Congress doing anything they promise when Pelosi took over she promised to lower gas prices when they were 2.75 a gallon, and since then it has risen to the highest ever!!

People who continue to vote for the dems deserve what they get, just too bad the rest of America has to suffer also!!

The general election are no beauty competition. The democratic party wants their people to be elected. If Boren is convinced that his district is not yet ready for change and that his people are needing 4 or 8 years more to adapt themselves to a new reality. Why not? He knows them best. If he will be reelected he will have done his job and what is the best for Obama and their party.

The list is growing of people that Obama "doesn't need" to get elected. Common sense says that it's a Democratic year. But even when Hillary was being pushed out of the race she was winning the last 9 out of 14 races....Obama's momentum had stopped////

Well this is Obama's party now and the number of anti-Obama blogs is growing daily fed by Hillary voters that Obama doesn't need.

We will remember in November...and it could be that 4 or 5 million votes might swing the election....Remember that mcCain came out and denounced the profane slander of Hillary (and white people in general)from Obama's church pulpit....Obama quit the church because he was worried about the media attention that they were receiving.

Some might say that that's a princple worth voting for.

Hillary supporters.

Check the Super Delegates in your state. See if they endosed as their constituency voted.

I am from Az. I know which ones voted which way.

I have my vote in November, and I will use it to get my point across, as will millions of other Hillary supporters disfranchised with the DNC, and the new democracy!

Hillary '08 or McCain '08

We used our voices, and they didn't listen, now we use our votes!

Kudos to Dan Boren for having the courage to stand up and represent his constituents regardless of the pressure he may have been subjected to by Madame Pelosi and the rest of the Democrat politburo.

"He worked with Republicans in the Illinois Senate to provide health care for 150,000 children and parents who didn’t have it..."

Obama's handiwork on the Illinois health care boondoggle is one of the main reasons the Illinois government currently has a $750 million shortfall. And his crony the corrupt crook governor wants to expand it. Blago has the same buy-now-pay-later philosophy that Obama is running on.

"...and in the U.S. Senate he’s worked with some of the most conservative members ...to restore accountability and openness to our government and crack down on the special interests."

In other words, he's worked on floating gaseous bromides while not proposing, supporting or passing any meaningful legislation of any kind whatsoever that would require him to risk offending any other member of his party. Let alone special interests like the corrupt and entrenched unions that have supported his campaigns. Talk about the elephant in the room. Hello? Is anybody home?

Unlike McCain, who has been risking his career for decades to pass bi-partisan legislation. Legislation that I mostly abhor, by the way, but Obama's record on bi-partisanship is ludicrous next to McCain's.

I feel sorry for him, but Obama is a complete fraud and anyone who doesn't see that and vote accordingly is either willfully blind or does not have the best interests of this country at heart.
