Generation J
June 09, 2008 1:29 PM
Christian Broadcasting Network's David Brody broke the story of Sen. Barack Obama's new program, the "Joshua Generation Project," to woo younger Catholics and Evangelicals.
"The Joshua Generation project will be the Obama campaign's outreach to young people of faith," an Obama source told Brody. "There's unprecedented energy and excitement for Obama among young evangelicals and Catholics. The Joshua Generation project will tap into that excitement and provide young people of faith opportunities to stand up for their values and move the campaign forward."
But Roll Call reports today that the Home School Legal Defense Association might sue Obama for trademark infringement, since its "Generation Joshua" group has been established since 2003.
“This is an improper invasion of our trademark and we've retained legal counsel to notify the Obama campaign to stop this,” HSLDA’s co-founder, chairman, and general counsel, Michael Farris, told Roll Call. Farris also wrote a 2005 book called, “The Joshua Generation: Restoring the Heritage of Christian Leadership.”
Obama cited Joshua in his speech commemorating the Bloody Sunday March, in Selma, Ala., in March 2007, saying, "I thank the Moses generation; but we've got to remember, now, that Joshua still had a job to do. As great as Moses was, despite all that he did, leading a people out of bondage, he didn't cross over the river to see the Promised Land. God told him your job is done. You'll see it. You'll be at the mountain top and you can see what I've promised. What I've promised to Abraham and Isaac and Jacob. You will see that I've fulfilled that promise but you won't go there. We're going to leave it to the Joshua generation to make sure it happens."
It's kind of surprising that Farris is talking about a lawsuit on this, since a quick Google search indicates that the idea is hardly original. There are more than a few ministries out there that include the words "Joshua" and "Generation."
There's one in India, another in Texas, one in Los Angeles, and one in Maryland.
There's a CD with that title, a dance company, another book by a different author, and Pastor John Hagee uses the term to describe younger worshippers at his Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, and on and on.
Is Farris going to sue all these people and organizations?

You may NOT call yourself a Catholic (in good standing)if you vote for Obama. It really is that simple. You also shouldn't be receiving Communion as you will be committing a mortal sin if you vote for a person who is evil. and to earthisnotflat you are risking the eternal fires of hell if you do. You know that abortion is evil and yet you support the very man whose voting record proves where his values and morals lay. He even voted to kill the baby by partial birth abortion. Do your homework! There is NO compromising with God, when you stand in judgment before Him, I don't think He is going to care about your "reasons" for voting for Obama or Clinton for that matter. Now you know, so you have no excuse! Please if you really are a catholic.. go before the Blessed Sacrament and sit before the Lord and pray about your vote.

Just as media built up Obama on hype and spin they will break him with facts...DIRTY Polotics of OBAMA the man some Americans want to be the next president. It's about time the media focused on the reality, not the fantasy.

I think people should have to take a civics test to be allowed to vote. At least then we would know that the people picking the leaders of this country actually have a clue about the issues facing our nation and aren't casting a vote based on such minutia as "he's black" or "she's a woman".

Chris...
Interesting how you try to drag religion into my comments that were solely based in fact, logic and science... Who is it really that has been sold a bill of goods?

I haven't seen much that is original with Obama. The worst part is, he has no practical experience out there in the big world where the big battles take place, and that's why he borrows ideas.
In the beginning of the primaries all he talked about was hope. He kept saying he didn't know what he was going to do about this or that, just that he knew something had to change and that it was going to be hard to do. When he was asked tough questions he either couldn't answer or didn't want to answer he would just beligerently walk away. As the campaign wore on he seemed to begin to see that we needed specific answers. Now he's evolved to altering his views almost daily because [I think]he's getting a crash course on US policies and what the American people want to hear from his advisors.
I won't vote for Obama because I think he's a con artist. Yeah, all politicians need to know how to play the game, but the more I listen and read, the more I see he's playing it like a shyster lawyer...he discards those he cannot use and is not true to anyone but himself.

You never hear about exactly WHAT happened to the
people in the city of Jericho after Joshua brought
those walls down. the commandment, given by
Jehovah (he calls himself GOD) was that everything
living thing in Jericho was to be slain. All the men, women, children, babies, old people, pregnant
women and all the animals. "Leave no living thing"
was the exact commandment.
Joshua was a terrorist.

wow the third flip flop is cake... (i should be in bed)... it is not a flip flop to say that withdrawing troops means you will not do what you can to stop the country from increased civil war (hey, even with all 140,000 troops, there is STILL CIVIL WAR there)... anyway, this supposed flip flop trys to trick people into saying that either we continue down George Bush's road of war without end, or completely abandon the iraqi people with no support... most people do not know (due to the mainstream medias being in bed with bush) that MOST citizens in iraq on ALL sides of the civil war want the US MILITARY OCCUPATION OUT!.. this is the will of the citizens of iraq!... so much for our bring so-called democracy to iraq... but finally, this argument is NOT an argument a CLINTON LOVER would use against obama, Hilary Clinton also supports a withdraw!.. you clinton-turned-mccain lovers are FAKES if you ask me!
Posted by: earthisnotflat | Jun 10, 2008 1:42:52 AM
i'll take on the second supposed flip-flop you list before i head to bed... the one dealing with funding the troops... the bill that was originally passed fully supported the troops and demanded a policy forcing bush to do the will of the people, and with draw from iraq... BUSH (and mccain agreed) VETOED the bill to support the troops financially because it included measures to bring the troops back... so a watered down version was drummed up which eliminated ANY mention of ending the war and gave bush ANOTHER blank check into continuing his misguided and illegal war... so yes, moveon.org DID push to stop this watered down war spending bill... not to hurt the troops but to get them home and force bush to think about what his goals are to end the war... this is not a flip flop, this is trying to stop Bush's war... something TRUE clinton supporters should support as well... but again, here you have republican (ie. mccain and bush) arguements... these people are NOT CLINTON SUPPORTERS!... SHE SUPPORTS OBAMA!
Posted by: earthisnotflat | Jun 10, 2008 1:32:39 AM
notice how i am debating with people who sound like obvious REPUBLICANS?... these pseudo-clinton supporters dont sound much like clinton democrats to me
Posted by: earthisnotflat | Jun 10, 2008 1:25:35 AM
i'm catholic and will vote for obama, my mother is catholic and vehemently against abortion, but would NEVER vote for mccain and would have voted for clinton and now will vote for obama... you people who think the only issue is abortion are mistaken, catholics, even those against abortion, will vote for obama because they are sick of the right wing failure
Posted by: earthisnotflat | Jun 10, 2008 1:23:18 AM
i could take each one of those supposed flip flops apart... lets take the first one... obama only admitted that a surge would have SHORT TERM effects, but not true long lasting effects, which may actually backfire... of course the 'surge' is still in effect and the civil war there rages on with american lives still being lost... now, that is just the first one... but if anyone is actually reading, this info was lifted from a website used by right wing obama haters, and is certainly not the views of supposed CLINTON supporters... are these CLINTON supporters supporting the WAR??? i think clinton and obama are VERY CLOSE on their iraq war policy, MUCH closer than they are to MCCAIN who is a right wing hawk
Posted by: earthisnotflat | Jun 10, 2008 1:20:11 AM
Are Catholics pro abortion? I think not. Obama is thoe so he will not get their vote.
Posted by: Stephen | Jun 10, 2008 1:14:36 AM
god forbid a political leader is articulate... the only thing the republicans can say about that is that hes a sweet talker void of policy... welll read his policys, they are in black and white for anyone to read on his website and elsewhere... (of course, mainstream media just want the juicy gossipy crap and dont report ths bare bone issues)... but the debates will bring all that up... and OH! i can't WAIT for the debates of mccain and obama!!!.. he is going to destroy mccain in the debates

FLIP: Obama Campaign spokesman David Axelrod claimed that Obama never disputed that the surge would make a difference in Iraq:
Axelrod: “[Obama] never disputed the fact that if you throw a surge of American soldiers in an area, that you can make a difference…” (MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” 5/30/08)
FLOP: Obama Said “I Don’t Think The President’s Strategy Is Going To Work.” Obama: “But right now what we have is, I think by all accounts, a disaster unfolding in Iraq. We all have a responsibility, Democrats and Republicans, Congress and the White House, to make sure that we can come up with the best strategy. I don’t think the president’s strategy is going to work. We went through two weeks of hearings on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee; experts from across the spectrum — military and civilian, conservative and liberal — expressed great skepticism about it.” (MSNBC’s “Reaction To The State Of The Union Address,” 1/23/07)
* Obama also said the surge would actually worsen sectarian violence in Iraq: “I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there. In fact, I think it will do the reverse.” (MSNBC’s “Response To The President’s Speech On Iraq,” 1/10/07)
FLIP: Obama said he would provide funding for the troops in Iraq:
“‘I Think That Nobody Wants To Play Chicken With Our Troops On The Ground,’ Said Obama.” (Mike Glover, “Obama Says Congress Will Fund Iraq War After Expected Bush Veto,” The Associated Press, 4/1/07)
* Obama: “[W]hat you don’t want to do is to play chicken to — with the president, and create a situation in which, potentially, you don’t have body armor; you don’t have reinforced Humvees; you don’t have night-vision goggles.” (CNN’s “The Situation Room,” 3/28/07)
In January 2007, Obama said that congress needed to make sure that troops in Iraq had “All the resources necessary to come home safely and to execute the missions that have been laid out for them.” Obama: “I know nobody in Congress, Republican or Democrat, who is going to in any way strand troops who are presently in Iraq. We’ve got to make sure that they have all the resources necessary to come home safely and to execute the missions that have been laid out for them.” (MSNBC’s “Reaction To The President’s Speech On Iraq,” 1/10/07)
FLOP: Obama pandered to George Soros (MoveOn.Org) by voting AGAINST critical funding ($94.4 Billion) for the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan:
(H.R. 2206, CQ Vote #181: Passed 80-14: R 42-3; D 37-10; I 1-1, 5/24/07, Obama Voted Nay)
“MoveOn.org, a leading antiwar group, rallied its 3.2 million members in an e-mail alert…that declared that ‘every single Democrat must oppose this bill.’ The group warned that it would consider backing primary challengers to Democrats who vote yes. Other organizations issued similar angry threats.” (Shailagh Murray, “Antiwar Groups Press Democrats To Vote Against Iraq Bill,” The Washington Post, 5/24/07)
FLIP: Obama says he has the judgment to handle the situation in Iraq:
Obama: “I don’t talk about my opposition to the war to say ‘I told you so.’ I wish the war had gone differently. But the reason I talk about it is because I truly believe that the judgment, and the conviction, and the accountability that each of us showed on the most important foreign policy decision of our lives is the best indicator you have of how each of us will make those decisions going forward. How we made that decision, and how we talk about it, is critical to understanding what we would do as President.” (Sen. Bara ck Obama, Remarks On Iraq, Des Moines, IA, 10/12/07)
FLOP: Obama has NOT been to Iraq since 2006:
“Obama … met with U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad and Iraqi President Jalal Talabani on Saturday [January 6, 2006]. He said before his two-day trip to Iraq that he wanted to ask U.S. commanders what a realistic time frame was for bringing troops home.” (Jason Straziuso, “Obama Says Minorities Mus t Be More Involved In Iraq’s Government,” The Associated Press, 1/7/06)
FLIP: Obama said that the President must be “Mindful of the situation on the ground and what the commanders say”:
Smith: “If you are to be elected president and your commanders on the ground there and your Secretary of Defense said, ‘Hold back; you can’t be pulling these people out; we’re going to create a civil war and a bloodbath,’ what would you do?” Obama: “My job as commander in chief is to keep the American people safe. But I firmly believe that we have to send a signal to the Iraqis that it is time to withdraw. We will not have a permanent base there. We will not have a permanent occupation there.” Smith: “Even if -” Obama: “Within those constraints -” Smith: “Even if it meant the beginning of civil war?” Obama: “No, no, no. Within those constraints, I think there is going to be some flexibility. And obviously I would consult with commanders. We have to be mindful of the situation on the ground and what the commanders say.” (CBS’ “The Early Show,” 2/4/08)
* Obama: “I will listen to General Petraeus given the experience that he has accumulated over the last several years. It would be stupid of me to ignore what he has to say.” (Fox’s “Fox News Sunday,” 4/27/08) {emphasis mine}
FLOP: Obama communications director Robert Gibbs admitted that Obama would ignore commanders and facts on the ground during potential Iraq trip:
MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski: “And, Robert, is your candidate - I mean, just this whole Iraq thing is now being revitalized a bit because of the book. But is your candidate going to go to Iraq? Is that in the plans?” Gibbs: “Well, as he said yesterday Mika, it’s under discussion about going overseas and going to Iraq sometime between now and the campaign. You know, I don’t think we’ll be taking that trip with John McCain because as Senator Obama said yesterday, the work that the men and women in our military are doing over there is just far too important for them to be props in some sort of political stunt or photo-op. You know, what they’re doing over there is separated from their families, giving for their country. It’s truly, truly amazing, and I think we would want to go over there and talk to them and see what sort of difficulties they’re facing and see how it is that we can begin to carefully remove them and carefully bring them back to their families and bring them back to the United States.” (MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” 5/29/08)

obama is a flopper?... can you tell me a few of his policy flops?... i mean specifics?... i really want to know!... if you are so correct and knowledgable, you should have this info (or did you get if from rush limbaugh?)
Posted by: earthisnotflat | Jun 10, 2008 1:06:23 AM
i've said it before and i'll say it again... the republicans are TERRIFIED of obama because he will cream mcain... they post here as pseudo-clinton-supporters-turned-mccain-lovers, but they really are republican spammers... people need to ask their real life clinton supporting friends if they will vote for mccain... i know MANY and NONE of them will vote for mccain... this is a republican effort to try to steal clinton lovers who may be wishy washy, but it will fail, just like the republican party has failed due to lies, hypocrisy and bad policey... please notice the mccain supporters here NEVER talk about REAL policy issues they have with obama, NEVER... they just feed on fear which is the republicans methodology that has worked but that too is failing for them
Posted by: earthisnotflat | Jun 10, 2008 1:01:23 AM
now someone has taken my name and posted views that republican fear mongers would post against obama... LOL

Obama knows about religion, maybe you should visit Trinity church. I've been there once, I'll never go back. This is no church, it's hatred.

I am still for justice and democracy and fair play.
They gang banged the best candidate to install an Obama.
So I must say, no thank-you…. what message would it send if after all the hate and demonizing, and insults hurled,…. I now reward the evildoers with my vote?
No to DEMS. No to DNC. No to Obama.
