Grover Norquist: Obama is "Kerry With a Tan"
June 27, 2008 1:29 PM
Conservative activist Grover Norquist dropped by The Los Angeles Times' Washington bureau and decided a classy and appropriate way to convey his opposition to the liberal positions of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, was to call the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee "John Kerry with a tan."
Presumably Norquist is trying to conjure forth something other than Kerry's curiously orange tan some were obsessed with for a spell in 2004.

so with all this pal-ing around of obama and clinton, do we dems feel the least he could do is offer up hillary as a vp nom? i mean she is making this election for him. it takes a big person to lose and help the winner.

Hopefully Republicans who aren't racists will see the nonsense being spouted on their behalf and protest. How sad that the party that has been saying for decades that racism is no longer an issue in this country, seem to rely on it to criticize Obama. Racist arguments really point to the scarcity of ideas on the Republican side this election cycle and shame on anyone who perpetuates this bull in order to win.

Isn't Grover Norquist the guy who pushed for President Clintons' impeachment and then ended up having to leave Congress in humiliation after it was discovered that he was having his own affairs (on the side)?

I am predicting 2 Obama's upcoming Flip-Flop
2.when Oil hits $200 a barrel and $7 per Galen , He will agree for Offs-shore Oil drilling
2.I will support Hillary's Universal Health care, Everyone should buy

Why is Obama's blackness such a bone of contention for conservatives? If they don't like his liberal or progressive or flip flop positions WHY NOT call out those things without getting into his racial identity?
I think the weirdest and the best explanation of Obama is that he is EXOTIC like an unusual delicious fruit that a person just can't get anywhere. The only thing is there are at least 30 million of those exotic fruits in this country.
Less exotic.
More approachable than fruit.

Most of you cats are so full of hate and old school ignorance that I think I am done with this blog! It was bad enough when the primary's raged, but now that things have gone differently than many of you had in mind, nothing but discontentment reigns. These views aren't even intellectually stimulating. The fact of the matter is that Hillary didn't run the best of campaigns, but her failure could have been Obama's! It wasn't though and at least Obama sees what this woman brings to the table and is trying to use that platform as a premise to build upon. Why not lend some support and give it a shot? In the end perhaps McCain would have been a better choice, but the fact is that he and the Bush administration have had 8 years and what you see is what you get! Hate all you want, but the change is needed! Peace.

This is just one of a large number of indirect and direct snide comments speaking to Obama's race out of the class act that call themselves the leadership of the GOP. Norquist, a winner if there ever was one, met with White House staff weekly for years to plan political strategy. He's as much of an insider as Rove, and as repellant as they come. Why anyone chooses to report these insults is beyond me, but I am going to point out a simple truth: look to Democratic leadership, and try to find a SINGLE senior Democratic insider who says anything similarly disgusting about McCain. You're not going to find it, which speaks to the fact that the fundamental level of decency in the Democratic Party is just so much higher than the GOP, as hard as that is to accept for Republicans.

Eileen, it matters because Obama has put forth the myth of an underprivileged background for political gain.
His mother was on food stamps when she was going for her PhD - long after she had abandoned Obama.
His grandmother was a trailblazing woman who was VP of the biggest bank in Hawaii.
These things matter because it's just another case of Obama's lying. Just like Selma and the Kennedy airlift. The question is, does Obama really believe these things (which means he has problems) or does he know they're lies and expects us to fall for them hook, line, and sinker (which spells problems for our country if we elect this faker POTUS).

tim ...Why do you care if Obama grew up poor or wealthy? What does that have to do with anything? Is there something I am missing that only Republican candidates are allowed to be extremely wealthy?
His single mom was poor and did live on food stamps for a while. His grandparents helped raise him and they were both working folks who were better off financially. He went to school on scholarships and student loans.

Let's see...within 6 months of assuming his responsibilities as a U. S. Senator in 2005, Sen. Obama purchased a $1.65 million home. In their 2007 Federal Income Tax return, Sen. Obama and his wife reported that their adjusted gross income last year was $4,139,965. And he passed up high paying jobs?
*************************************
Yes, he did pass up higher paying jobs, most of that income was from his two best selling books that he wrote himself.

That will result in higher unemployment, which means the federal government will have to raise taxes on everyone else to compensate for the lost tax revenue.
**************************************
That sounds to me like a typical right wing negative response or somebody who is overweight and doesn't want to do anything about it.

Perhaps it would just lead to a healthier society.

spock...I never heard Obama attack Jews, the poor or another group.

James... actually, I was being sarcastic. Besides, with our litigation-happy system... it would never happen. You can't discriminate against the fat, and any legislator who tries to do so would be carried out of DC on a rail. That goes for Democrats, Republicans, indies... the whole she-bang.

Obama wants to talk to despots around the world, says he wants to bring unity, BUT refuses to allow any of his
people or other party members or himself to be questioned on Foxnews.

RESPONCE
Obama was interviewed on Fox news earlier this month, AND so have a number of his surrogates.
Do you know you are lying or or you one of those submissive personalities that believes everything the multi-millionaire shock jocks tell you?

trettine...are you saying anyone that doesn't serve in the military doesn't help America? Wow, I know lot of people who never served in the military but DEFINATELY served their country.

"Remember when they called Obama the next Jimmy Carter."
I believe that they are still calling him that. Barry Carter.

Champ, do you really want a federal bureaucracy keeping track of your waistline? Should you fail to meet the waistline limit, you will have to go back to your doctor's office every three months until your waistline meets the federal standard. But the real problem is the fact that the Japanese government imposes financial penalites on companies and local governments if they don't meet their targets. Do you really think employers will continue to pay fines because some employees refuse to lose weight? No they will fire current overweight employees; and not hire anyone who does not already meet the waistline limits. That will result in higher unemployment, which means the federal government will have to raise taxes on everyone else to compensate for the lost tax revenue.
