Imus Explains
June 24, 2008 6:59 AM
Under fire once again for remarks about race yesterday, radio host Don Imus this morning said that his comments about Dallas Cowboy Adam "Pacman" Jones are being misinterpreted.
"Warner and I were talking about 'Pacman' Jones being arrested six times," Imus said this morning, "and obviously they are picking on him. So I asked Warner what color he was. Obviously, I already knew what color he was... And I said there you go, that's the point. What people should be outraged about is they arrest blacks for no reason. There was no reason to arrest this kid six times."
Imus went on to say, "they shoot blacks for no reason. We know about that in New York City. I mean, We already understand all this...Nobody, no white man with a radio or television program has had more discussions about race relations since December 3rd than I have. ... We talk about it all the time."
"My point is, there is no reason to arrest this kid six times," Imus said. "He is a football player, he's a lovely kid. He's out having fun, he gets arrested six times, well we know why he gets arrested six times."
The Dallas Morning News reports that, told of Imus's original comments by a reporter, Jones himself says he's "truly upset about the comments. Obviously Mr. Imus has problems with African-Americans. I'm upset, and I hope the station he works for handles it accordingly. I will pray for him."

Leave Imus alone, people. Imus, listen, I love your show, and your a good man but my advice to you is to retire and go run a charity. Sorry, I-Man, it pains to say this but the show is over.

It strikes all the same notes.

As an American black male, I was not offended by Don Imus’s comment at all. Come on, it was mere knit picking to bust him for this comment. I think people are just looking for someone to hang (whoops) and Don Imus just happened to be around. I do find it kind of odd that America is not outraged by most of the mainstream rap and hip hop musicians (I consider crap) that just happen to degrade their own community and women; however, go off on this guy’s question. We should throw a black rapper (whose lyrics just happen to degrade blacks or another group of people) into the boiling pot and see the results, I can promise, it would rather be quite different.

You can say anything you want about women and get away with it.

It is unlikely that this man would be arrested by the police six times without cause. There is always two sides to every story.
"He was out having fun." Was he drunk and disorderly???? I bet there was a very good reason for the arrest.

Who cares!!! Its a free country and Imus is allowed to voice any opinion. If you dont like it dont listen to him. Some whites dont like blacks and some blacks dont like whites. That's their choice, Move on with your lives and quit complaining about meaningless issues.

Any intelligent person knows Imus is not a racist!! He is sincerely trying to expose the serious racist issues that really do exist in this country. His program continuously has black guests on that help educate his audience on the reality of racism and the sensativity towards each other we all need to cultivate. Listen to the man (Imus) not what the media tries to do to him!!

Didn't certain supporters or a certain false messiah complain about "snippets" distorting the perception of the great Jermiah Wright.

What is the difference between what Al Sharpton does for a living (pulling the race card where-ever he goes) and what Imus is doing right now? (pulling the race card for Adam Jones).

the fact that you relate anything Imus or Sharpton says to Obama exposes your bigotry

i dont believe imus is a racist. i think people are trying to still condemn him for past remarks and looking under rocks for any chance to persecute him. yet we have real racism going on with sharpton and rap music, thats what helps fuel racism in the minds of americans.imus has more than redeemed himself to the public.i say let it go and find the racism within yourselves before you point the finger at others. leave imus alone and look for the real issues.

Where were the preachers of hate AL SHARPTON and JESSE JACKSON and REV WRIGHT when Obama workers had Muslim women removed from sitting behind him during one of his events

I think race is the problem in your Country that is why blacks are treated that way and it is because their skin colour. Please stop the division and sort of babaric behaviour;together you will reach the heights of your beautiful Country and this is from Tengo Papa in Namibia....

Meanwhile Rome burns, while the media has us concentrated on nothing.

Too funny. Even if Imus kisses up to the blacks he's still in trouble. The black community has decided that Imus has no right to talk about blacks at ALL! In any context. Too funny.

I'm tired of the whole race issue. The hyphen is a divider not a bridge. Too many special interest groups instead of one major American interest. We'll never come together as a country because of race baiter's like Jackson and Sharpten.

What was "Pacman" arrested for, those 6 times? Imus is bending over backwards so far to show that he is NOT racist, that he is acting like a reverse racist. Assuming that a black man is innocent after being arrested six times, that is a perfect example of reverse racism.

I don't know which is worse, the idiots who can't understand what Imus actually said (he was criticizing the repeated ARRESTS of Jones, not attacking him for being black), or those who want to drag Obama or "racism by blacks" into the discussion.
I worry about the IQ of Americans, I really do...

The real story here isn't even in the article. It's in the anger and hatred amidst the comments that follow. Just goes to show how far we HAVEN'T come.
Posted by: Truth | Jun 24, 2008 8:03:35 AM
I would just like to say that I think Al Sharpton is the most prejudice person on this earth. What ever happened to freedom of speech? If Imus cant say what he thinks (wrong or not) then what is the point of talking?
