McCain Attacks Obama Using Hip Film Reference...from 1962

June 25, 2008 3:41 PM

Three weeks after Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, began accusing Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., of "running for George Bush's third term," McCain started saying Obama was running for "Jimmy Carter's second" term.

A late comeback, and one that tens of millions of Americans who have no memory of the Carter presidency might find as evocative as a Grover Cleveland joke.

(Not that there's anything wrong with a "Ma, ma, where's my Pa? Gone to the White House, ha ha ha!"  reference every now and then.)

Today McCain launched a web video that dovetails with his new talking point that when it comes to energy proposals, Obama is "Dr. No."

"No To Drilling Offshore Oil," the web video says, "No To A Gas Tax Holiday….No To Innovation. No To The Electric Car….No To Clean, Safe, Nuclear Energy...Barack Obama Truly Is The Dr. No Of Energy Security."

I get the argument, and I don't think it's a bad one on the merits.

But unless one is over a certain age, a Sean Connery fan, or a member of Ian Fleming's immediate family, is the first James Bond film -- one that then-President John F. Kennedy heralded as a fave -- really the best reference for a 71-year-old candidate to be making?

On the plus side, at least it's a talkie.

Dallas Voter! Bit of stirring gives you enjoyment but you as everyone else(including citizens of the world) know Obama is the Man for the present to lead into the future.

Thank God for Obama

I don't think the Obama folks will point the Goldfinger at McCain for his wanting to keep tax breaks intact for the most wealthy.

Ageism is a lowly way for the media to show their Obama support.
The vast majority of the people who actually vote in this country remember that Jimmy Carter was the worst President of their lifetimes (until Bush came along) and the similarities between Obama and Carter are hard not to notice.

Cheryll, have you actually read any of Obama's energy proposals? Listen, I think there are honest policy differences between the two candidates, and decent folks can disagree about the best way to fix our energy problems, but when you say things like "I haven't heard one single plan about how Obama will stop fossil fuel use. Have any Obama followers heard of something I haven't other than tax, tax, tax??" you just sound like someone who hasn't been paying attention. In other words, ignorant.

I have yet to hear any innovations Obama supports. He has none. He blasts people on their views, but never has an answer to the problem himself other than making someone else pay. He will tax the more wealthy, but that is only 5 percent of the population. It will brings in less money than a gradient tax scale. I have listened to him numerous times and all he wants is promise anything and everything, which we know that is not true..it cannot be true, it has never been true. WAKE UP!!

Let's see...McCain wants to get away from being oil dependent. He is right about all our money Billions!!)for fossil fuels actually supports our enemies. Obama well he wants to tax, tax ,tacx the oils companies and run his mouth. The oils companies will only raise their rates to make up for it. You just think gas is high now! But setting that all aside, I haven't heard one single plan about how Obama will stop fossil fuel use. Have any Obama followers heard of something I haven't other than tax, tax, tax?? I would gladly welcome your information in case I missed something. We must stop fossil fuel use...it will run out eventually folks. What will our children do if we don't find something new? At least McCain has some ideas other than tax...

Obama: Dr. Flip and Mr. Flop

McCain - "Dr. I don't know."

Posted by: Vera | Jun 25, 2008 6:35:49 PM

Hey Dallas Voter - you refer to Obama as having no experience - just exactly what was Hillary's experience? To quote Tracy Morgan:

"I want to know what qualifies Hillary Clinton to be the next president? Is it because she was married to the president? If that were the case, then Robin Givens would be the heavyweight champion of the world."

Posted by: Davo | Jun 25, 2008 6:31:37 PM

really? seriously? THIS counts as election news?

I would be proud to call Obama the "Dr. No to half-baked energy policies that will fail to provide long-term solutions for out energy crisis".

One of the most important reason for Americans to elect Obama President?
Obama will pave the way for ALL Americans to have a quality education like his

As long as too many Americans remain uneducated, under educated & mis-educated, they will continue to elect incompetent, visionless leaders, who will then play on Americans' FEARS & on Americans IGNORANCE!

John McCain KNOWS that oil company execs ALREADY have massive amounts of OIL FIELDS IN INVENTORY OFFSHORE, which they can drill ANY TIME!

Obama = flip flop

"Dallas voter I hope Hillary likes her debt because I ain't giveing her a cent now!"
Me neither, since Obama has bought her support, he and his supporters need to pay. LOL!

Money can pay for Hillary's support but can not buy our votes!

Posted by: Dallas voter | Jun 25, 2008 6:17:27 PM

So does that make McCain Dr. Maybe?

Maybe I'll switch positions, just let me decide which stance will net the most votes.

Posted by: Brett | Jun 25, 2008 6:16:45 PM

Oh, like the LA Times, NY Times are not left leaning??? Like they don't have an agenda? And truth is not it.

Posted by: rw | Jun 25, 2008 6:12:15 PM

How about looking at the trust worthy daily polling done by GALLUP....McCain 45%, Obama 45%.

Posted by: rw | Jun 25, 2008 6:07:29 PM
****
That is until Obama is ahead in Gallup and then they will a junk poll too, right? LOL!

Posted by: jmc663 | Jun 25, 2008 6:10:21 PM

You know, just because McCain says something doesn't make it so. He's wrong about a lot of his pronouncements.
Obama didn't say he opposes nuclear, electric cars or snicker, snicker innovation. It's funny and kinda stupid for anyone to suggest that any politician is opposes innovation isn't it? At least ol John is good for a laugh.

Posted by: Javalation | Jun 25, 2008 6:07:42 PM

Hey Joe,
Obama is up how many points? In which poll? LA Times....

How about looking at the trust worthy daily polling done by GALLUP....McCain 45%, Obama 45%.

Posted by: rw | Jun 25, 2008 6:07:29 PM

it was an excellent reference, I doubt a guy over 25 missed it.
