Obama Has Worst Fundraising Month of 2008

June 20, 2008 8:57 PM

Yes, it's still $21.9 million, but for Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., May was the worst fundraising month of 2008.

It was so bad, in fact, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. -- who had his best month with $21.5 million -- almost tied him.

Of Obama's total haul, $21,211,417 was designated for the primary. Obama has $43,147,333 cash on hand,  $33,263,856 of which can be spent in the primary season.

GOP ARE THIEVES?
I am a retired Catholic schoolteacher. My taxes were lowered under Bush. The Dems want to raise them back up. They also think that by taxing the rich more it will increase revenues. Dems are fools....the rich will just put their money offshore or into tax free munis. AND THEN WHO WILL GET STUCK WITH OBAMA'S BILL FOR HIS DUMB SOCIALISM...THE REST OF US!!!

After 8 years of Bush it could be said that it is unpatriotic to vote for republicans. The party that took us into a war of choice under false pretense. The party that has shredded the constitution to cover up their corruption. They party that fired U.S. Attorneys for political reasons. The party that prosecuted the democratic govenor of Alabama for political reasons. The party that witheld help to Katrina victims for political reasons. The party that routinely gives no bid contracts to its cronies. The party that has taken our great country to the brink destrution and finamcial ruin. The party that questions every penny designated to help average americans but are more than happy to push any and averything that helps corporations, lobbyist and the rich. The party that's willing to ruin our country and the world's environment to make a buck for big oil and other coporations etc, etc

Perhaps, most of Obama's supporters contributed to the disaster victims during May, maybe? He did ask us to participate. I'm just saying. By the way, McCain's best month is Obama's worst and he still raised more money? Priceless.

OK, education. My first year of teaching was in an ethnic Catholic school on the east side of Cleveland. We had 40 - 45 kids to a class. If you had a problem, the problem was taken care of that night!!! We didn't go running to the federal gov. for extra help. Kids learned the basics and went on to college - END OF STORY. KEEP THE FEDS OUT OF EDUCATION!!!!!

Clearly, as much as they want everyone to believe that everyone is just dying to jump on his unity wagon, it's just not happening. His donors are going to, and have, hit ceilings, he is losing his shine everyday, and McCain is out there looking like a viable option, a nice middle of the road option.

Why the republicans are not estatic is beyond me. Tehy had little to no chance this season and now they have probably the only man who really can win and they are still trying to tie him down to unpalatable positions. Why?

It seems to me, if you want a republican to win the White House, and he really can, republicans would be all over helping him look as middle of the road as possible. There is a huge and growing number of dems and former dems, looking for anyone, absolutely anyone to support over Obama.

Why are they making it so hard for him? His greatest streagnth is his patriotism and his willingness to go his own way.

Why tie him down now? It only makes him look like a flip-flopper and unsure. Obama really is, so why are they making McCain the same.

Most dems respect the man at least. Let us have that and you can win.

I think when you look at the may schedule and what Obama was up to and up against, its not surprising the fundraising took a bit of a break.

The Repubs are NOT excited about McCain. BUT they would be hugely motivated to vote against Clinton. NOTHING gets the Repubs riled up than the Clintons. They would come out in DROVES to make sure HRC lost. The Clintons are public enemy #1 for the GOP.

Please get your facts straight.

Please stop carping on the propaganda machines line of how the repubs will come out against Hillary.
The tables have been turned and we past DEMS(independent) now will be out in droves for McCain!! So Clintons have won! We will support the lousy candidate the repubs are not excited about. lol lol Ya nuts if you think they are not going to support McCain, none will vote BO!

(i know you left but just in case)you teach him to fish... but our country and our country depends on those people eating fish.

so let's talk about education.

yeah that's a really good one for mcCain.

It's fun watching the Dems this year, like every other year. Running around like a bunch of scared chimps.

Dems are so afraid of running the government and making decisions that they manufacture conspiracies. Year after year after year.

Dems are addicted to losing. Almost as much as they are to whining about not winning.

What exactly was JFK saying? Haven't we heard enough of the word "CONTEXT?'

Posted by: Jimbo | Jun 21, 2008 4:45:38 PM

Betty, labeling people who won't vote for Obama as racists is yesterday's failed ploy. Not gonna work in the general election. I refuse to vote for Obama simply because he's black in order to prove a point that America is ready to elect an AA president. To do so would be reverse racism. And mighty foolish.

and Jimbo

you are taking that quote out of the context of what he was saying.

Posted by: dl | Jun 21, 2008 4:37:48 PM

Jimbo

I don't agree. Their are many details that go with it...and I myself have always been torn with the flat tax...

but there are pros and cons with both... but you must know that

in the interim...

should we increase the deficit

should we cut the things ...the red tape and spending and the war I am all for,yes but that won't do it all and with our economy sloping Americans who just didn't have the education or smarts can't be left behind...sorry ...they can't ALL be left behind and that will destroy ALL of us.

so should we let our roads crumble

let our military crumble

let social security crumble

keep borrowing money from China

I think if the single woman who has had to pay 20$ more a week in lunches...or more money in groceries to feed them...or they go without...and go without healthcare now...

not just on a humanitarian level but an economic level...that is bad policy and will come back to bite you...

should we be banking on spending from the 5% rather than the people who are spending on the basics...that drive the GDP?

The GDP is driven by the middle and lower-middle incomes...

I think we are sinking for three big reasons...

we have become fat lazy cats and are not the generation that built this country (thank you me generation)

we are losing our place in the "buy american" brand

and the policies of George W. Bush (not all but almost all) have been bad judgement calls influenced and created in circles of capitalists who were not "curbed" with the understanding of how important true "grace" is.

That is what makes a capitalist economic engine in a democratic republic work.

Were you aware that the top 10 percent wage earners pay over 80 percent of the income taxes collected? How much more do you think is fair? You know, a FLAT TAX or a tax based upon sales would solve all these so called inequities, but your party will not even consider.

Posted by: Jimbo | Jun 21, 2008 4:10:50 PM

Hoosier Sue....Yeah! I'll be working for McCain in early Sept. all through to his election in Nov. I'd love to have Hillary in this race, but not as a VP and I dislike Obama so much for POTUS I would not be able to vote for her if she was on the ticket.
I will donate on 7/4 the amount they've asked and like you, put my $$$ into McCain AFTER the convention.
Billionaire liberals will still see to it that their money is bundled into BO campaign and he'll outspend McCain 3 to 1.....but he did that with Hillary in states she won. You can't buy this Presidency.

Jimbo

if you knew what you were talking about you ...

lol

would know that Obama is not a socialist...lol

Capitalism works best when it is done with the understanding and grace (touch of God) of a socialist's empathy.

I am definitively a capitalists... but this country worked so well with capitalism because we understood the values of grace.

If you don't get that ...then you don't understand the strength of a democratic capitalist success.

Read about it...it's what makes us more than animals.

Posted by: dl | Jun 21, 2008 3:39:44 PM

Debra, I'm donating $5.44 to McCain on July 4th as a signal from a Hillary supporter. I'll toss him some real money after the Dem convention in August, should they persist on nominating Obama. By the way, I saw my first McCain yard sign today here.

Posted by: HoosierSue | Jun 21, 2008 3:24:40 PM

The chickens are coming home to roost. The DNC is sinking in its fundraising because of people leaving the party over Obama. Now Obama is also sinking. Several posters here have it right - the Republicans who were donating to sink Hillary have picked up their marbles and gone home; mission accomplished. Obama thought Republicans were voting for him and donating because they loved him - another example of his poor judgment.

Posted by: HoosierSue | Jun 21, 2008 3:22:19 PM

Janice

You represent everything that McCain has going for him...

and every mindset that elected George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004.

Good for you.

we need another of those 8 years.

How about arguing on a policy...or an issue.

oh that's right you can't then you lose.
