Religion is opiate for the masses in the sense that it is divisive and encourages blaming others who are not part of that religion. Its always easier to blame someone else for your problems then to take responsibility and address them. I like to take the best of religion by disregarding the dogma and trappings of grandeur and following the ten commandments and the idea of brotherly love.

Dobson's view of religion is warped. But so is that of Trinity Church which Obama attended for 20 years. Two sides of the same coin.

If Obama is for change, why didn't he try to change the hate in his church? I am not a church goer, but I have an extensive Christian background and I do consider my self spiritual. I really feel that Bush and the religious right are hated BECAUSE of their religious devotion. Religious families (of all faiths) contribute so many positive things to our society. Doesn't it seem like the haters of the religious just are intolerant? I think that is true in the same way as higher education is often intolerant of those on the right. For example often when a right leaning speaker tries to give a talk on a college campus he is shouted down and can't give his talk. But someone like Ayers would be most welcome. Same people - same hate.

Thinking,
While I agree with you that the religious right are trying to make themselves relevant, I think Obama wants to as well. Obama wants to unite and you can't unite unless everyone is welcome. The religious right just needs to find common ground instead of continuing to force ONLY one or two issues.
Inclusion not exclusion.

Dobson should read the Bible every now and again. If you are against abortions, don't get one.

How can Obama be a Bible believing Christian when he believes in Evolution and things like Abortion.

People of faith come out in large numbers on election day, if only to vote against a candidate they believe is not sincere about his/her faith. Mr. Dobson is an expert on matters relating to the bible and people of faith take his words very seriously. If he thinks Mr. Obama is less than sincere, there are others who share that opinion.

In this instance, I will have to take the side of Dr. Dobson. Senator's Obama faith is based on the Black Liberation Theology Church with teaching very different from most Christian Churches. How many churches say BLACKS ARE THE CHOSEN PEOPLE???????

It's amazing how James Dobson, a so called man of God, taking exceptions with Obama's faith. This from a man who has supported and continues to support a president who has lied, over and over again. Did Dobson forget the scripture that states that "all liars" will end up in the lake of fire. Does he not consider Bush a liar? I don't know what book Dobson is reading, but it's certainly not the Bible that I read. Maybe he's reading the Koran!
