Obama to Shake Tinseltown Tree
June 24, 2008 7:08 AM
This afternoon at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion Los Angeles Music Center, the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, will hold a $2,300-per-person reception that looks to attract many fancy celebrities.
Before the event the campaign will hold a VIP dinner for donors giving $28,500 per couple to the DNC Victory fund.
Seal is scheduled to perform. And why not? Many in Hollywood compare Obama to a kiss from a rose on a grave. (He remains their power, their pleasure, their pain.)
Some of the stars anticipated: Samuel L. Jackson, Seal and Heidi Klum, Sidney Poitier, Will.i.am, Cedric the Entertainer, Dennis Quaid, Kal "Kumar" Penn, Sugar Ray Leonard and Jennifer Beals.
Other industry folks such as Ari Emanuel and Ron Meyer are supposed to be there as well.
But as always in Hollywood there is intrigue afoot as well.
As Variety puts it: "The big question is just how many of Hillary Clinton's high-profile fund-raisers will show up at the event, as the sting of her loss is still hardfelt in some quarters. Obama is expected to reach out to others, like media mogul Haim Saban, who raised more than $1 million for Clinton's campaign. Asked by the Los Angeles Times whether he planned to attend a meeting that Obama and Clinton are hosting on Thursday with her top money men, he sent back a terse reply: 'No.''
And Variety points out that Clinton fundraiser Sim Farar plans to meet with Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., during his visit to Santa Barbara on Tuesday.
Another Obamaland concern, per Variety: "the flurry of e-mails and misinformation about the candidate's positions on Israel and the Middle East. Last week, former Rep. Mel Levine and Rep. Howard Berman held the first organizing meeting of Obama's Los Angeles Jewish Community Leadership Committee in Beverly Hills, before a group that included such supporters as Jeffrey Katzenberg and Michael Lynton. 'There has been a persistent effort to undermine and distort [Obama's] record early on,' Levine said. 'Our goal is to get the facts out, and as they get out, his support in the community will grow.'"
Oy!

$2300 per head? Obama is funded by $5, $10 and $25 donations, isn't he?

The left should be careful what they wish for. Obama is not the person we see giving those great speeches. The left in their hate of Bush are blinded by it. America is not about left or right, the so called special groups who know what is best for the majority of our country. What we need is not a complete reverse of Bush but some one who is centered that speaks for the majority of America. That is why John McCain is doing so well at this point in the process. The Republicans rather had a Rommey. McCain has a record of working with democrats whereas Obama has a record of working with no body.
We will never get the truth about McCain until the election for the press is so liberal and that is ashame. We need more Tim Russerts, even being a democrat he was fair/balanced, where as people like gregory, Wolf, Olbermann have an ajenda.

Amazing how many negative comments are here, when this has the potential to be a very uplifting American event. The U.S. (at least from outside) seems to have more in common with itself than not, and when you get going with the Obama thing it's very inspiring.

Obama on the hunt for Hollywood liberal cash.
More of that "change" you can believe in.

All the black celebs who want to look cool will show up. Come to think of it, so will the white ones for the same reasons. Besides, everyone knows entertainers and minstrels love democrats!!!

I can't believe that anyone who supports Obama doesn't know about his pro-Palestinian history. Oh, wait a minute, yes I do. Too many of you are being sold a candidacy like it's a pair of designer jeans; Obama and Axelrove think the American public are nothing but stupid sheep to be led by the nose. You've got internet access; use it and research this guy you're so devoted to. Look into his adulthood from Columbia to Chicago.

Obama has built his campaign on “faith”---a bible belting, charismatic individual that avoids (you know solid and substantial) commitments on the issues. He is selling the public that he is a man of principle. He tells those that vote for him that he will use the federal spending program, but after he has your votes, and is the nominee, he says he will not use the federal spending program because it is a “broken system”. Of course the system would have been the same “broken system” a few months earlier too. This is a clear indication that he lacks principles and that his “personal word” means nothing to me. A man’s word should count for something. It is the one thing in life that sets men apart from the boys. Might it be that the image that Obama is building is nothing but a mere image, not a reflection of the true Obama?

Heather beat me to the comment about hoping the "seal" would be there for "Seal."
I hope that seal lives forever, with possums, and all kinds of other funny new slogans, a la "audacity of hype" that ABC used.
The man is an utter fraud.

The headline is a little misleading. I think it was suppose to say "shakedown tinsle town". Just like this whole election was a "Shakedown".
Now about that fake birth certificate.....
PUMA!

Bill Dull,
So you would have us all saved by the LIAR Obama. Public financing.

Obama, the architect of BitterGate!

Obama-nomics would slow job creation to a stand still, innovation, improvements and originality and speculation and investment just when it's needed most by our country in a recession and heading for a depression. I know that Obama flip-flops and says one thing today and another thing tomorrow but he will probably keep his word on raising taxes because that has been the only clear issue of his campaign to date---higher taxes, bigger government.

The truth is they do think we are that 'freakin' stupid'. Obama's campaign has been one long litany of misinformation designed to justify his bad decisions and lack of experience. Someone told me offline and personally, "you're a very smart guy and you do your research. The vast majority of Americans don't and won't."
They really believe in the Rovian model of the American soccer mom as the voter most easily swayed by emotional issues.
Prove them wrong.
Forget Hollyweird. It is perfect country for Obama: the land of the self-obsessed.

$2300, why that sounds like public financing.

Obama, don't worry about ever vetting the guy.

also hoosier and vickie not sure where your getting this pro palestinian idea from perhaps you should stop reading those crappily designed websites filled with misinformation
Posted by: bhrandon | Jun 24, 2008 9:40:15 AM
exactly why is obama a fraud vick?
Posted by: bhrandon | Jun 24, 2008 9:39:11 AM
So now you got your talking points from the republicans and your going to start calling obama arrogant. You guys are such sheep. I don't see arrogant in any way coming from him. I want a president who stays cool under pressure. Not cry like hillary or throw a hissy fit like mccain Its hard to be arrogant when you grew up with nothing. Spoiled fat children like rove should just keep their mouths shut.

riley:
That's true. His HUGE problem now? People DO know him and they don't like him. His "newness" has worn off. His light has dimmed. People now know he's a fraud.
Posted by: Vickie | Jun 24, 2008 9:36:57 AM
Obama is so arrogant, and caught up in the hype and adoration, that he believes everyone will "come around" once they get to know him.
Posted by: riley | Jun 24, 2008 9:32:20 AM
HoosierSue:
You are correct! BO's problem is he thinks we Jews are as uninformed as his supporters are. We know he's not to be trusted.
matt w.: What HoosierSue said is true. BO has always been pro-Palestinian/Anti-Israel. You don't attend Said fund raisers AND be a supporter of Israel. The 2 don't mesh, sorry.
It's NOT a scare tactic when it's TRUE.

I'm looking forward to seeing which Hillary big donors don't show. I hope they're PUMA members!
I wonder what "distorted" information Levine is talking about? Would it be that Hamas Anti-Israel SCREED the Trinity Black Liberation church's Triumph magazine printed? Maybe it's the Farrakhan/Obama friendship? Or, perhaps, it's the Rezko/Auchi/Said/OBAMA connections? Could it be the Anti-Israel Racist Rev. Wright? I look forward to hearing Levine's and Katzenberg's excuses.
Hillary supporters:
When you get a fund raising letter from the DNC, Al Gore, Obama, Etc.... use their prepaid envelope, write a nasty little note on the contribution page, put that and a bunch of junk paper in the envelope and mail it with NO $$$$$. Let the DNC waste their corruptly gained $$$$$. Make them pay for anointing BO the "presumtive" nominee. Let them know you have left the Democratic Party and WHY. I've mailed back about 6 fund raising letters already...minus any of my hard earned $$$$$$.;) As you can see, the DNC doesn't really need your $5, 10 or 20 bucks anyway. They have Hollywood millionaires.
Jews are not stupid people, Obama. We see right through you and your facade.
