Off-Message Alert! New Democratic Congressman Slams Democratic Budget for Raising Taxes
June 09, 2008 4:24 PM
Rep. Bill Foster, D-Illinois -- whom we last covered on this blog when he won the special election for the Illinois U.S. House seat formerly occupied by House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Illinois -- has voted against the conference report on the budget being pushed by the Democrats in the House.
“I can’t support a budget, from either party, that raises taxes on the middle class," Foster said in a statement. "This bill hurts families all across the 14th District by eliminating the 10-percent bracket for lower-income taxpayers, reinstating the marriage penalty and increasing taxes on small businesses and investments. I campaigned on a platform of middle class tax relief, and I was elected to Washington to bring about change. When asked to choose between my party and the people I represent, I will choose the families of the 14th District every single time.”
As House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, helpfully points out Foster's take contradicts statements by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., (watch HERE) and House Budget Committee chairman John Spratt, D-SC (watch HERE.)

DaShawn, you wrote: "America is going to turn from war to expanding social programs for its poor and needy." We have had Welfare and Medicare for over 40 years. All it has done is make things worse. It is time that people take responsibility for their own lives and their own family members and not depend upon the American taxpayers. The existing entitlement programs are going to bankrupt this country. And now the Liberals want to implement womb-to-tomb universal health care and free college. Even if the war ended today, we would not have enough money to pay for the new entitlements in addition to the old entitlements.
Sweden is able to do what they do because EVERYONE pays about 60% of their earnings in taxes. And Sweden only has a population of about 9 million people. You want to have their system here for 300 million people! Yet you want only the "wealthy" to pay for everything. Well, you put that much burden on the "wealthy," and eventually the "wealthy" will stop making money. Then were will you get your freebies?

DaShawn, sorry I misspelled your name last time. School vouchers would allow inner-city parents the option of pulling their children out of failing schools and placing them in schools that are more dedicated to their students' needs than that of the unions. Education is the long term answer to the high inner-city minority unemployment rates.
Now as for a short term fix, if it were my responsibility to solve the problem from a federal government perspective, I would implement the fair tax and eliminate the income tax. This would immediately give every worker his entire paycheck. This will open up the flood gates of consumption. This will mean millions of jobs and more money to the local and federal coffers. But most importantly it will give families more money to give to charities. I believe the short term answer to the inner-city youth crisis lies in the hands of charities not the federal government. Local charities can provide one-on-one tutoring; mentoring; help the youth get their GEDs (where needed); and ultimately locate jobs. That is the way to go!

Everyone over 14 should be required to be responsible for their own actions. Stay in school, stay away from crime and drugs and don't have children before you are able to support them. I do believe in a helping hand for those who help themselves first by being responsible and accountable. Skin color, gender or economic status is not as important as self responsibility.
I don't want my taxes raised to pay for irresponsibility of someone else.

Barky is EXACTLY a liar per se: about Rezko, about public financing, about Ayers and Dohrn, about his grandmother, about his "church", about his father being a goatherd, about laundering money in his law firm, etc.
If the Democrats actually nominate this person, we should surround Denver and KEEP em there.

Republicans, America tried it your way and where did it get us? Now America is embracing the real change that Obama is going to bring us. For the first time, in a long time, people of color have real hope. America is going to turn from war to expanding social programs for its poor and needy. America is turning from discrimination against people of color to their inclusion at the top levels of our government. America is turning from its failed neo-conservative policies to new policies that promote the social welfare of its most disadvantaged people. America will benefit from bringing more diversity into our federal government.
Sweeping social change is coming to America. Don't get angry, become part of the change!
Obama 08: Real Change That We Can Believe In

i don't think obama is a liar per se,
i think the lie is trying to convince people he is ready to be POTUS, when clearly he is not.
that is the lie.
anything he says after that is just foolishness and not to be taken seriously.
in the beginning HE said he was not ready, but the loser crowd needed someone to BEAT the middle of the road Sen. clinton.
it makes no difference now, with either one of these mccain or obama
we the people of this country are going to suffer.
we either let or ran the right one away
in the wrong way.
and we will pay over the next four years.
i'll bet in four years after a failed this country' mccain presidency or obama presidency,
we will not be so caught up in sniper fire, and all she wears is pants suits, and what are you going to do with bill?
those things were not important to OUR well being now and they will be even less important in four years.
if we think we have had it bad with geo. bush.
and incompent obama presidency or a warhawk mccain presidency will make this country HOWL!

DaShawn
Why do you equate the military in terms of nuclear weapons. Military technology improvements have saved thousands of lives and things like the drones give us better intelligence and a safer working environment in the military. It's MUCH more than nuclear.
You understate the importance of a strong military by not understanding the complexities of the world.

Yes Belle Starr, I guess when he turned the other way while his pal, Rezko the slumlord, was refusing to heat or repair his tenements, is the real change that he has in mind for the inner city.
Posted by: Mack | Jun 9, 2008 6:55:56 PM
James Danley, America can already destroy the world several times over. Why should we spend hundreds of billions of dollar building more nuclear weapons? Meanwhile, America's inner cities are decaying. They need to be fixed, and Obama intends to fix them. Where is he getting the money to do so? From our bloated U.S. Military, which is just causing more people in the world to hate us anyway.

amy,
i just watched and listened to the two clips, i did not vote for him in the primary, because i believe sen. clinton to be the better for what we need now.
but as a black person, i was ashamed.
when he said "i can't hear myself think
what he meant was, he was forgetting what he had memorized.
i don't think i will be watching much more of him and mccain speak.
it is just like with bush in the beginning, listening to him speak.
it was such an insult to thinking people to see how unprepared he was.
and the same with obama.
all of the red flags were and are there.
but the here we go headlong into another sham of a presidency with either one of these guys.
it is a shame.

If the people you refer to are so truthful and patriotic, why did your little puppet denounce half of them publicly?

DaShawn writes:
"Belle Starr, goggle it for yourself. Obama has pledged to . . . "
No thanks, DaShawn: it's up to YOU to substantiate your claim of Potemkin villages, world peace, and whatever. Speaking of inner-city unpleasantries, maybe YOU could google "Obama Rezko".
Barky's a fraud.

DeShawn, one of the most important responsibilities of the federal government is national defense. Failing to keep up with the latest technology in warfare will only embolden our enemies to attempt an attack. Look what happened on 9/11 when just four planes were hijacked and "only" 3,000 lives were lost. Imagine the devastation if the terrorists used WMDs. But getting back to your point...
If we shifted the military budget to the inner-cities -- first of all, corrupt politicians would see to it that they get a huge chunk before any of the money is disbursed -- there is no guarantee that anything will change. The Democrats have held nearly veto-proof majorities in both Houses of Congress for much of the last 60 years. Why weren't these problems solved then? The Democrats have no intention of solving problems. They know that they will be re-elected by just TALKING about "change," just TALKING about "fixing problems."

I'm all for doing away with A Action. If you aren't qualified for a job then you don't deserve it. Or get into an Ivy League school by getting an extra 230 points to your SAT because you are AA the way th Obama's did.
Posted by: oh no | Jun 9, 2008 6:47:31 PM
Obama was too busy making history to worry about his job with the Senate. He deserves special treatment.
Posted by: Mack | Jun 9, 2008 6:46:20 PM
Obama's a liar - big time! No way can a single word that comes out of that man's mouth be believed. He'd sell his soul (or his grandmother) for power.
His only claim to fame is saying 'present' more times than anyone else on the planet and he delivered exactly NOTHING when he was in the Illinois senate.
An empty suit who cannot even define the word 'change'!
Posted by: Soetoro No! | Jun 9, 2008 6:45:31 PM
I believe that both Houses of Democratic controlled congress are as much as fault as Bush for the economy...
And raising taxes just before an election is a "boneheaded" mistake. Will Obama be voting on this one or will he vote "present" or maybe he's still running for president and he won't vote at all.....He has the worst voting rate in the US Senate. Both McCain and Clinton didn't quit their day jobs to run for President....Obama has not contributed to the US Senate at all since he was elected to represent the people of IL>

Yeah, he thought it sounded so good he used it first on Deval Patrick in ... Massachusetts (Kerry, Kennedy, one of the states the Anointed One failed to carry) -- where Patrick went on to defy the people and make common cause with casino mobsters.
