Quinnipiac: Obama Ahead in Four Key Battlegrounds
June 26, 2008 10:16 AM
Far more important than the national polls in this race for 270 electoral votes are the credible state-by-state polls. And new Quinnipiac/Wall Street Journal/Washingtonpost.com polls out today show Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, with a lead over Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in four key states:
COLORADO: Obama 49 - McCain 44
MICHIGAN: Obama 48 - McCain 42
MINNESOTA: Obama 54 - McCain 37
WISCONSIN: Obama 52 - McCain 39
Also key -- Obama leads by eight to 21 percentage points among independent voters in each state.
COLORADO: 51 – 39 percent among independent voters;
MICHIGAN: 46 – 38 percent among independents;
MINNESOTA: 54 – 33 percent with independents;
WISCONSIN: 50 – 37 percent with independents.
Read more about the polling information HERE.
But pride goeth before a fall, Mr. Obama.
Warns Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute: "Sen. Obama should not be picking out the drapes for the Oval Office just yet. His lead nationally, and double digits in some key states, is not hugely different from where Sen. John Kerry stood four years ago at this point in the campaign."

THE FUTURE POTUS SPEAKS
As he has done at every event over the course of his tour, the Illinois senator drew a contrast between his vision for America and McCain's. “He has supported and would continue an agenda that I believe has failed to keep pace with the challenges of the 21st century,” Obama said. “I’m convinced that we must move in a new direction. If we have the courage to commit to change, the American people cannot just seize -- but shape -- the opportunities of the global economy. Together, we can author our own story. Together, we can pursue a 21st century leadership agenda that’s focused on five areas: energy, education, health care, infrastructure, and innovation.”

Agreed. It's the starting point. Likely any one-on-one debates will set the defining trend, barring any major "baggage" coming to light.

Yes. I do not put too much stock in a poll that is 5 months out. The daily Gallup poll is good to measure how the messages are getting through, but not much else.

Current data at Gallup totaled gives
969/910 in favor of Obama. Averaged for the 21 days gives 46.1/43.3 in favor of Obama. Latest data shows McCain with the sharpest rise yet. The graph will be interesting the next few weeks.

bill w,
The President of Gallup yestarday that their daily polls should not be looked at from day to day, but averaged for an entire week.
He said Dems are harding to get ahold of Mon and Tues, so Wed polls are lower for Dems. Repubs are harder to get ahold of Fri and Sat, so Sun polls are lower for Repubs.
You can look up this information and fidn out how to further read the Gallup Polls by using "The Googgle" on the "internets" and going to the Gallup Website.

Mary,
You'd be better off writing your own name in on the ballot. That's the same as voting for McCain.
YOU WON'T HAVE A FLY'S CHANCE IN A TARANTULA'S WEB of winning.

I remember a speech that Senator Obama made some time ago speaking about his growing-up years. In it he stated that it was wonderful, great, good, etc that his Mom received food stamps so she could afford to send him to the expensive private school where he was receiving the best education. My question: by the time he was school age, she should have had a degree and working. But she was not working but chasing fellas. Does Obama not think people should work to support their familiers instead of getting food stamps paid for by working people's taxes. (waitress, janitors, cooks, etc}
This statement of his proves he believes in socialism and communism. He is not my candidate.

jmc663,
I agree. They're no fun anymore. Remember when they were I AM HILLARY SUPPORTER, HEAR ME ROAR!?
Now, they're insignificant little KITTY CATS that have chosen to place themselves in the same cage with an old rabies invested mutt with well known anger tendencies.
They must be masochists.

nat,
It's really funny that the only group that thinks McCain is going to win is the 14 HRC supporters on here.
Even Repubs know he's toast.

Buttermilk McCain would be best served to be shooing teenagers off of his grass.
He's completely outmatched in this one and doesn't have a ice cream cone's chance in a sauna of winning this election.
EMBARRASSING. VERY EMBARRASSING

Obama has flip-flopped so many times and his Hope and Change gimic is losing its punch--he's even getting the far left angry.
So he has to play the race card to get sympathy votes--that's getting old too.

inmo...There are a lot of white people that care about this country that are also saying no to Obama. Not because he is not white. Because he is a radical. He is a politician that is capable of dangerous decisions for this country.
There are a lot of people in this country that want a free ride from welfare. They are drug addicts that don't want to work for a living. They are jealous of what the working people have accomplished. They want an Obama for President. I am not a wealthy person, but what I do have I worked for. Welfare and giveaway programs are what Obama will be about. He will give away the money of the U.S. to welfare to reparations and to AFRICA. This will be on the backs of the middle class. America has to get a grip on what this guy is really about. I have done a lot of research on Obama. His wife and all of his associations hate America. That alone says volumes. God bless America. The best country in all the world. Where is America's pride? Sometimes I think there are a smaller number of people that are not on drugs than those who are. Sober up America. John McCain is not George Bush. He was not my first choice. Hillary was. Now he is my ONLY choice.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT FOR THE CYNICS
Obama graduated Harvard Law School with honors. McCain finished at the naval academy fifth from the bottom of his class in a class of over 899 graduating students. That's coming in 894TH place, MY FRIENDS. Gramps is not only senile and doesn't work weekends, he wasn't very smart in his youth. HMMMM, DOESN'T LOOK GOOD.
Obama will rip him to tiny shreds and he'll do it with a smile on his face. McCain is easy pickings for someone of Obama's intellect and savvy. Just wait for that first debate. Holy Cow. Gramps is going to be embarrassed, and its going to be so sad, YET FUNNY!
Somebody's gonna get smashed and it looks like Gramps is completely out of his league.
You can't win a horse race with a Donkey as your entry Repugs.
Cynics, please come together and say a prayer so that the teleprompter won't go out while McCan't is speaking.
I SAY AGAIN
THIS WON'T EVEN BE A COMPETITION.
BLOWOUT!
