Reid Talked to Lieberman, Too

June 05, 2008 1:59 PM

In addition to the talking-to that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, gave Sen. Joe Lieberman, Ind-Conn., yesterday for his role as a supporter of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the Senate Majority leader chatted last night with the Connecticut senator, who caucuses with the Democrats but has endorsed McCain.

Reid told reporters today, per ABC News' Z. Byron Wolf, that "I've had conversations with Lieberman at some length. I'm not going to discuss the conversations here.  But I think the discussions he had with Obama yesterday and the discussions he had with me yesterday were fruitful. We'll let the future decide what it's going to be, but I'm not about to threaten anybody."

But Reid also pointed out the Senate math the creates the odd dynamic where one of the Democratic caucus's participants is planning on speaking at the Republican convention.

"Without Lieberman's vote, the budget would not have passed," Reid said. "Without Lieberman the budget would not have been written. So I think everybody should understand that Joe Lieberman has made a decision on issues relating to the war. And he's decided to back John McCain. But Joe Lieberman is an important vote for this caucus."

I can't wait until the Democrats win a few additional Senate seats, so they can kick Lieberman to the curb.

I look forward to November...when the Democrats will have a large enough majority in the Senate not to have to rely on this pompous, sanctimonious windbag.

From what I see Lieberman is one of two Independents in the Senate that effectively gives the Democrats the leadership by a 51-49 vote. What happens if Lieberman goes to the other side and makes it 50-50? The Republicans are then in control of the Senate since the Vice President is a Republican. Bush could make his backdoor appointments since the Democrats would not be able to stay in session as they have been doing and Reid is out of his leadership job. In close times one needs to tread lightly and not offend.

You folks want some cheese with that Whine? Kill the free thinker I say! Dam the man who dares to be different. You don't care about the issues, only that your team wins. I bet you all voted for him in 2000. Too bad about that failed recount or he would be the Dem nominee today, and he hasn't changed a single position on any issue.

Lieberman...the perfect Conneticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court

Conneticut should RECALL Lieberman

I luv it when Liberals claim they are not socialist and then talk about the good old days when weath was "shared." Who gets to cut up the pie? Obama? Hillary? I would rather earn my own and share with those I choose. A little self reliance and hard work will pay more than FDR ever did. Take the life jacket off and start swimming.

Joe is a Republican spy and not needed!

the idea that the new york times and washington post are left wing is crazy!! the media is fair and in the middle--it doesn't seem that way if all you do is watch fox and listen to rush hannity and ingram--the whole idea that war makes people safe is a right wing idea--we should only go to war if a country is a threat to the us--iraq is not a threat to the us--iran is not a threat to the us either--we can work to make it beneficial for iran not to have a nuclear bomb--but we have to give some carrots--just threats makes things worse--look at iraq-

unfortunately many of us in CT were blindsided by Libermann when he lost the primary and ran as an Indep. He really needs to go this time around. There is no place in the party for a "turncoat".

Imagine a politician doing what is in the best interest of the COUNTRY instead of whats in his political party's interest!!! Obama keeps preaching about the change he is going to bring, but if you have the spine to think like an American, not a democrat, you get a lecture. Is this what you want in a leader. Yeah, he is a uniter...just as long as you do what he says. WHAT A FRAUD!!! America deserves better.

Benedict Arnold, Joe JUDAS Lieberman, the real JUDAS of the Democratic Party. lol

The good thing about Judas Lieberman is that one can sense his treachery from a million miles away. lol

And in the same way that Jesus was onto the biblical Judas, the Democratic Party's Messiah, Barack Obama, is ALSO onto the treachery of Judas Lieberman. lol

The misguided voters of Connecticut will rue the day that they chose to re-elect this visionless and witless warmonger!

Mary, the problem is the Republicans are moving more toward the right, not the Democrats moving toward the left. This started under Nixon and subsquent repulbicans bent on overturning FDRs New Deal and returning us to the divide of the 1920's. The only thing they don't get is most of them are brainwashed by greed and the desire to accumulate large quanities of wealth at the expense of others. This is done by envolking words like "communism" and "Socialism" when they don't exist. Policies like GW bushwould never have been tolerated in the post war 1950's when all Americans shared in t prosperity. Reagan removed restrictions set down by TR to ensure that those in the top 1% of wealth were able to keep it out of the hands of the very people who earned it. Stop the migration to the right! It is killing America.

Voting for McCain will:
• Stack the deck for conservative judges to overturn Roe V Wade
• Guaranty the war in Iraq continues costing American lives and billions of $$
• Siphoning of hard earned American dollars to pay for reconstruction in Iraq instead of investing in America
• Keep giving tax breaks to the wealthiest 1% of the population while average Americans takes up the slack
• Widen the gap between rich & middle class as more middle class slip into poverty
• Grow the national debt with continued deficit spending
• Deny health coverage to people by protecting pharmaceutical and insurance company policies that favor corporate America
How can a Hillary supporter possibly even consider McCain as a viable option? Talk about cutting off your nose despite your face.

Wrong—Connecticut will not be removing Lieberman, Nat.

Posted by: jon | Jun 5, 2008 2:59:55 PM

I would hope that Lieberman woudn't support Obama. He is Jewish, and he doesn't appreciate all Obama's Israel-hating friends.

Obama is not a true friend to Jewish people or to America.

Since I can't vote Hillary....McCain 2008

Liebermann's dismissal and critique extends way beyond the Iraqi War or Iran or even Israel.

We are listening to what he says too and it is not pretty.

I think McCain may pick that Indian who won that southern GOVERNOR seat or the Jew Liberman as VICE
