Rudy Weighs In

June 17, 2008 3:10 PM

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani just weighed in on Sen. Barack Obama's remarks to ABC News concerning terrorism.

"Throughout this campaign, I have been very concerned that the Democrats want to take a step back to the failed policies that treated terrorism solely as a law enforcement matter rather than a clear and present danger," Giuliani said. "Barack Obama appears to believe that terrorists should be treated like criminals -- a belief that underscores his fundamental lack of judgment regarding our national security. In a post 9/11 world, we need to remain on offense against the terrorist threat which seeks to destroy our very way of life."

Obama - what a guy. Change what change - it is just a great marketing package that got him to this point.

The more and more I hear Obama speak - the less I like him and I voted for him in the primary.

I am beginning to realize that all he is just a great motivational speaker when it is already scripted. When speaking with out paper or caught of guard on a question - his answers are like this

Well, um oh I thought I mean well uh uh um I think umm um Uh oh I said umm ohhh

Obama is scary and he is going to ruin this country and more so than Bush has.

We have a story here in RI. Where a woman waited in the car of a shopping plaza while her mother ran into a grocery store to get some items. While she was waiting a "man" approached the car with a knife forcing the woman a knife point to drive the car about 15 miles away to a wooded park and rapped her.

Once the guy was arrested it was found out that is an illegal alien - with a long record in his own country and Obama supports giving illegals driving licenses.

Good judgement Obama!

I thought journalism was supposed to be fair and bias. I wonder why when I post anything slightly negative about Obama the flip-flopper - say what you have to get elected presumptive nominee my comments get deleted.

Once again - Obama needs to go back to the senate and gain experience. He clearly does not have the training needed for the post in which he is running. The more he speaks - the clearer his inexperience shine through brightly. The presidency of the US or any other country is not a "Learn as you go" program.

Jake - report the news and don't be bias. You can clearly have the candidate of choice for yourself but not here.

A Vietnam hero and a 9/11
hero.

Just what our economy
needs right now.

Posted by: anon | Jun 18, 2008 12:51:14 AM

Giuliani by some accounts
spent more than 60 million
dollars. And he did not
win a single delegate.

A colossal natural born
loser.

He is looking to team up
with warmonger McCain as
his national security
adviser it seems.

Maybe he would like to treat them like his friend " Ayers"

Bhrandon, "jihad" is an Islamic term, Arabic for "battle." This "battle" can be man against vice and passion. Or it can refer to a holy war against infidels.

You wrote: "...you need to understand how the legal system works, they arent going to be released as you and the other repubs seem to think on bail or anything." You CANNOT guarantee that. All it takes is one judge to decide that bail cannot be denied. Besides there have already been a couple of instances where the Bush Administration reluctantly decided to drop charges against defendants because they did not want to declassify the evidence that was necessary for conviction.

Hey, but I was a 9/11 hero.

Rudy should fade away and take care of his wife & all his ex - wives. He's a loser, he couldn't carry a single state in the GOP primaries and he's still yapping away.
Some old dudes don't know when to call it a day.

Fighting terrorism is a law enforcement and intelligence corroboration. Obama's detractors fail to mention this. OMG, I'm defending Obama, something which I didn't anticipate!

Well, here's hoping it's of these two Senators in flagrant impropriety with each other.

Then the Senate could run the country for a couple of years, while the Democrats (not to mention the Republicans!) figure out how to run a straight primary election.

Baby and bathwater. Our initial response to 9/11 was correct. We went to fight alQaeda. It was the Bush doctrine of pre-emption and the invasion of Iraq that were wrong.

Don't get confused. We are still fighting the war on terror, but it is not a war we declare on a nation. Afghanistan is necessary to take down the training camps. It may be necessary to take steps in Pakistan yet to be determined. However, law enforcement work is a very important part of the global strategy particularly with the so-called lumpen terrorist cells.

Coordination is a key and we won't get that cooperation stomping around the world in hob-nailed boots. We do have to refine our strategies but that is not something Obama has in his hip-hop pockets. It is something the next POTUS must plan carefully with the military AND the law enforcement agencies. The National Response Plan is in place but it takes more than a single administration to implement such.

Hmmm...what happened in 2006 when we tried to run on the fear of terrorist platform? Anyone? Anyone? Seems like we lost something.

McCain is weak and does not have enough of the right experience. We do not need insider beltway experience. We need someone who respects the constitution and the American value systems. McCain is the same as Bush who stated that the constitution is just a GD piece of paper. McBUSH. MCSame. McScary.

I have to agree with Rudy on this one. Obama is to weak when it comes to national security.

Posted by: Omentum | Jun 17, 2008 4:57:04 PM

Markymark, you miss the point. These "enemy combatants" or prisoners taken during war. In case you haven't heard, we are at war with these Islamic extremists. There have been prisoners taken during every war throughout the history of mankind. You take them off the battlefield and detain them until the war is over. That way they won't be put back onto the battlefield to kill again. The only other alternative is to take no prisoners and just kill them all. I hope you agree that that is even worse! What makes this war so different is these warriors are not members of a particular nation's army; the battlefield is the entire world; and this war will be going on for decades.

Trying these individuals within the American judicial system will require declassifying all of the top secret intelligence that is helping us to foil future attacks against us. That will hamstring our ability to foil future attacks. So the government will have to choose between releasing these warriors or revealing exactly how we are able to know the who, what, where and when of another attack -- placing our national security at risk.

I smell another McCain moment coming up. You know the one where he claims AL Qaeda is training in Iran?

Why is McCain not living up to his Senate duties? Why did he avoid the Senate Armed Services hearing on torture today? He is the ranking member, why is he now supporting torture. He was against it before he was for it. Flip-FLop on sale. McSame and McBush.

True writes
"Obama has to convince Americans his new approach on national security and war on terrorists will make America safer..."
But there is nothing new about Obama's approach.

Obama wants the same approach as used after the 93 world trade attack, shortly after Clinton took office. The attack was designed to take the tower down. The "law enforcement" reaction did not stave off two embassy attacks or the attack on the Cole after the first WTC attack. The attack on an aspirin factory seemed not to help either. 100 million dollars later we got a conviction but no end to attacks.
The WTC was attacked again shortly after Bush took office on 911. The response was dramatic and way beyond the “law enforcement” approach.
Where are the follow up attacks? I submit that our 911 response has helped to thwart and deny the enemy the ability to attack since 911.
If Obama is elected and we are again tested and revert to a “law enforcement” response will you consol the victims of any attacks that follow?
