Michelle Obama Fair Game for Another State GOP

July 17, 2008 10:37 PM

The Washington State Republican Party -- following the lead of the Tennessee State GOP, and its controversial Web ad vilifying Michelle Obama -- has launched a Web ad of its own "welcoming" Michelle Obama to the Evergreen State.

The Web video makes hay out of her "for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country" comment, featuring various state GOP officials saying they're "proud to be an American," and then pledging allegiance to the flag.

Presumably, that's a dig at the false smear that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., refuses to say the pledge himself.

Washington's Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire issued this statement in response:  "I was proud to welcome Michelle Obama, who clearly loves our country deeply, here to Washington state this morning. These shameless attacks by the state Republican Party have no place in our politics. If John McCain is serious about running a 'respectful' campaign on the issues, he and Republican leaders like Dino Rossi will denounce this tasteless attack ad and tell the state Republican Party to pull the plug on it immediately. After eight years of the most divisive, fear-driven politics this country has ever seen, I agree with Sen. Obama that it's time to turn the page and bring Americans together."

This is all confusing. I know many of us in South Carolina did not support John McCain in 2000 because of the false rumor that he fathered a black child. Now that we have gotten to know him and Cindy we know that is impossible in God's plan. Are they trying to trick us again about Obama fathering a black child?

If Barack Obama's past drug use isn't supposed to bother me, then why in the world should I care about Cindy McCain's?

Spouses are fair game as long as they make themselves surrogates for their husbands - which Michelle definitely has. Michelle is a bitter and angry woman - you wouldn't want her in the White House!! She believes America is a mean-spirited country, only proud of her country now because the public fawns over her husband. Suck it up and stop being cry babies, Obamas - what makes you special anyway! If you can't stand the heat, kindly get out of the kitchen!

thanks for clarifying.

If Michelle comes out and gives speeches, is a surrogate for Obama then she is fair game.

She is also fair game because we do not want Obama to be President, and we do not want Michelle to be First Lady.

But have no fear because come August at the Denver Convention H.R. Clinton's name will be place in Nomination in the First Roll Call and she will be chosen as the Democratic Leader in the General Election..

PumaPac, Just Say No Deal, Denver Group et al call upon Clintn supporters to come and join us in our endeavor to get Hillary elected.

I get the impression that the Republican party is getting more and more desperate with every passing day. It will be interesting to see just how low these supposedly loyal americans will sink before they lose in November. With patriots like today's Republican party we really are our own worst enemy.

Can one recite the Pledge of Allegiance without it being refered to as an attack on Obama?

To quote my civil rights mentor Michelle Obama is just a .....

I saw the speech. What Michelle Obama actually said was "really proud of my country." Why is the "really" routinely edited out?

Posted by: Brooklyn Democrat | Jul 18, 2008 11:46:07 AM

The "really" is not edited out - she actually had two speeches on the same day. The first one she just said "I am proud" and in the second one she said "really proud". My take is her handlers caught wind and told her to make the change in her second speech. I've seen both versions.

To NOBODYS FOOL. What you are is a "LIBERAL FOOL" When we get to a point in this great Country of mine where I see and hear Fool's like you spewing you're crap over and thru the media outlets I want to throw up. Remember one thing fool, when respect and love for that GREAT FLAG are gone you will be gone also. People like you who stand for nothing will FALL for anything. What a shame it is that you and those like you will never know what it feels like to be a TRUE patriot.

The Republican party is morally bankrupt. If pledging allegiance to the flag is all they have to offer America, then I'm really proud to say that Barack Obama will be the next President of the United States.

If Barack Obama can dictate to the media that which is off limits, then a terrible precedent is set for any future he may have as an elected official. This is PRECISELY the same tactics the Bush Administration used to squelch news coverage of the war.

National campaigns are tough. Truth is, she knows this and so does he. These statements from Obama are attempts to turn the women voters in his direction. Remember the predictions from his campaign that women will vote for him in droves.

It seems they have a plan.

I think it's funny that Obama had no problem when he had his campaign attack Hillary and Chelsea-of course Bill was ALWAYS fair game. His supporters didn't have any problem attacking Cindy McCain. Say what you want-he's still a wuss.

Did Barack Obama ever make any statements to condemn the Ryan's sealed divorce records being released? Did he express concern about Jeri Ryan and her children's privacy and urge voters to disregard that information?
Did Obama ever make a statement about the Vanity Fair piece hitting Bill Clinton in the waning days of Hillary's campaign?
Has he asked the two blogs with which he has interacted to stop discussing Cindy McCain?

Obama's problem is that he doesn't stand up for others.

Wow, how Stalinist of you .

Did sitting in a "church" shouting blood libel against the white man bring America together?
Did sitting in a "church" shouting blood libel against the Jewish people bring America together?
Barack Hussein Obama,hypocrite extraordinaire.

The whole subject is somewhat reminiscent of Richard Nixon whining about Pat Nixon's "Republican cloth coat."

Do the touch-me-not Obamas also have a dog who's off-limits?

J - The flag is a man-made symbol, nothing more, nothing less. What I DO respect is the lives of our kids who are fighting and dying for a lie perpetrated on this country and the rest of the world by an administration for which I dearly hope there is reserved a small corner in hell. Our kids didn't deserve this disgusting, self-serving outrage pushed on us by Bush and company. How many of you remember - "three months and we'll be out of there" "shock and awe" "they'll be waiting for us with open arms" So, 4000+ dead, thousands horribly wounded, both physically and emotionally with no real help from the government who doesn't want to pay for their therapy. Give me a break. We are the laughing stock of the planet. The flag means nothing to me but our kids' lives do.
