NYT Editorial Board Says McCain Camp Playing "O.J." Card
July 31, 2008 6:11 PM
The New York Times editorial board says of Sen. John McCain's "Britney" TV ad: "The ad gave us an uneasy feeling that the McCain campaign was starting up the same sort of racially tinged attack on Mr. Obama that Republican operatives, some of whom work for Mr. McCain now, ran against Harold Ford, a black candidate for Senate in Tennessee in 2006. That assault, too, began with videos juxtaposing Mr. Ford with young, white women."
The NYT also said that when McCain campaign manager Rick Davis said “Barack Obama has played the race card, and he played it from the bottom of the deck,” he "conjur(ed) up another loaded racial image. The phrase dealing the race card 'from the bottom of the deck' entered the national lexicon during the O.J. Simpson saga. Robert Shapiro, one of Mr. Simpson’s lawyers, famously declared of himself, Johnny Cochran and the rest of the Simpson defense team, 'Not only did we play the race card, we dealt it from the bottom of the deck.'"
And I thought Obama meant we wouldn't have to re-fight those 1990s battles again!

This feigned 'outrage' over Obama's statement is a WMD. Weapon of mass distraction. McCain has no real answers, period he's down in the polls on the issues that matter gas, economy ect. So of course Davis was attempting the rile white voters by saying Barak is 'playing' you. It's a tired argument because as we have seen on this very blog GOP attack dogs use Obama's race as a tool to distract.

Barack Obama and Paris Hilton have the same level of legislative accomplishments.

As soon as the Democratic Party nominated (not that actually have yet but you know what I mean!) a candidate who is not a white man, this kind of attack was inevitable. And the 'The Democrats are the ones playing the race card' defence was inevitable as well. The GOP is gamblingthat what happened in Tennessee in 2006, when Ford lost, will happen nationwide, and enough people will be uneasy. BUT they have played this card very early. Why do that before the covention? This ad would have been an interesting post convention attack, and McCain could have made a substantive issue based speach at the Convention and been seen as more 'heavyweight'. Everything that the McCain campaign is doing right now seems to betray a sense of panic. Why are they attacking so early, given that the polls are so close still? It shoews as much as anything a lack of confidencew in the issues MCCain has to try to sell.

The NYT may have thought they were helping Obama, but they've gravely miscalculated. The last thing America needs to be reminded of is the O.J. Trial - and the shameful way his lawyers not only used racism to free their client, but had the gall to blatantly brag about it as chronicled here.

NY Times Editorial Board is not exactly unbiased. They are also part of Team Obama....Come to think of it, they also accused Bill Clinton of racist cards.

Democrats don't have a leg to stand on. Back in the 90s when black congressman Gary Frank was running against a white democrat in Conneticut, the democrat ran some ads of Gary in his high school black afro.
And no democrat said a word.
So just shut the hell up, democrats. America is sick of all of you.

So Democrats have to walk on eggshells, but McCain can go around repeating that Obama is essentially a traitor? That's worse than calling someone a bigot.
I'll give you that Obama had one sloppy sentence about race, but McCain's massive hissy fit was totally out of proportion. There's no equivalence here at all.

In my opinion,Obama's fatal flaw was the superstar image right from the beginning and in July he still hadn't learned it was a mistake. The one thing that people hate about Bush is that they have been ignored. Making yourself a celebrity gives the impression that you are further and further away from the people just like Bush. The bigger the crowds, the less one on one, the more that image sticks. The media darling tag makes it stick even more. Everyone laughed at McCain being in the supermarket last week, they laughed even more when only one reporter showed up to greet his plane. I guarantee it wasn't lost on middle America who cares more about the price of cheese than what the Germans think of us. The McCain campaign is creating a contrast and taking the air out of Obama's strongest point, anti-Bush the one who ignored you. Everyday Obama is a little less like you, and is ignoring your concerns, and it's working.

Barack Obama is a presumptuous and elitist World Child Emperor, a la Romulus Augustus, as far as his experience for this job is concerned.
His ideology is socialist/Marxist, with an anarchyst creepy wife. He’s a black Hugo Chavez, veiled in a non-transparent curtain, so the lemmings wouldn’t find that out, in time.
Anyone, I mean anyone, who sees racism in that, go get yourselves on a psychologist’s couch because I don’t care.
I think that anyone who’s made it to the top ticket, and whines about anything, is a eunich, or a wussified sissy, one who’s got one ball made of feathers, and the other is an actual ping pong ball.
Suck on it NYT. I’ve done more for minorities in this simple life, than all of your Utopian dreams/idealisms put together.

Someone wrote that the ad should have compared Obama to Clooney instead of Britney Spears because Clooney is more famous. Well someone doesn't watch Entertaintment Tonight, read US Weekly or TMZ. Britney is by far more famous than George Clooney.
But more importantly they chose Britney and Paris because these are people that the media have made famous. These women are famous for being famous. They have no real talent other than the media love them and teenage girls are crazy about them. Barack started running for President before he even when to the Senate. His accomplishment are slim to none. He is a media creation and the McCain camp is pointing out the obvious to the people who are still undecided.

In case we forget, Obama used the race card in Jacksonville Florida on June 20th. He said,”They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?”
Now the most recent version somewhat mirrors today’s speech where he says,”…So what they’re going to try to do is make you scared of me,” Obama said. “You know, `he’s not patriotic enough, he’s got a funny name,’ you know, `he doesn’t look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills.”
The difference between the two is that today he left out the phrase, “…did I mention that he black.”
Who played the race card? Obama did.

“RACE ISSUE MOVES TO CENTRE OF CAMPAIGN”
I’ve said, back in the primaries that Republican Party stay
out of the Liberal Democratic Civil war, with the Liberal
party fighting for the soul of their party!
Its the Liberals who have started the Race War within their
party, with Bill Clintons comments on the Fairy Tale remark!
And now,the MSM———–through Obama are trying to paint
a false picture,a perception that McCain is dragging race in
to this!
The Lefty MSM are trying to corral the cows so to speak, and
re-direct this camapign and their the ONES THAT ARE PLAYING
THE RACE CARD!
This needs to be addressed by Republican’s ASAP on the talk
shows immediately, before this gets traction and the sitting
fence post voters get brainwashed over this false tactic that the Liberals will be banking on!
THIS NEEDS ACTION NOW!!!!!!!!

West Coast Messenger - the lions will lie down with the sheep . . .
I would hope that's the case, but I'm concerned about Obama wanting to go after Al Quida into Pakistan. It's really not a good idea to further destabilize Pakistan with any major military aggression given that it's a nuclear power.

Senator Barrack Obama is no George Clooney and will never be someone remotely similar to George Clooney. That is as ridiculous as comparison to JFK.

oh please. do you think that the mcsame camp did not know what they was doing and yes they full well knew they would get this response.
McCain has nothing to say. That tired bit about drilling for oil that we wont see for 8 to 10 years from now and "winning" (winning still undefined) in iraq only goes so far.
So hey lets stir controversy to take Obama off message. Good job mccain. Just yet another flip flop because he said he would not go negative.
but please mccain, mccain camp, and his minions.... dont think the addition of britney and paris in that photo didn't have a difinitive message. britney and paris are NOT celebrities anymore. they are just tabloid fodder who are known for their sexual expolits.
i know what's going on. but please just dont deny it. i dont think it will work but please come on. dont insult my intelligence. dont insult the intelligence of america......
or should I say ... are you so blind you cant see.

A book has been written titled "The Obama Nation", authored by Jerome Corsi, PHd. Understand the book will be in the bookstore tomorrow. Hopefully, there will be interviews on TV with the author.
Also, understand there has been an 8 point drop in 4/5 days for Obama on nationwide poll just this week.

The words of McCain
WE WILL NOT GO NEGATIVE
The words of Cindy
NO YOU WILL NOT SEE NEGATIVITY IN THIS CAMPAIGN
My question to McCain is CAN I TRUST HIM?
He is a human gaffe Machine. He is a expert flipflopper.
IT IS HIM I CANNOT TRUST. Trying to trivialize this guy's campaign because he cannot attract not only his base but the media, THAT IS HIS PROBLEM, NOT OBAMA's. If he doesn't do it for American, he should just quit and let Romney run at the top of the ticket. It was the GOP that is now having buyers remorse and now they are trying to salvage this horrible candidacy by going negative.

McCain's "celeb" ad should have compared Obama to George Clooney. He is way more famous than Britney! And he's also a male and handsome, like Obama. I certainly think that 200,000 Germans would come out to see Clooney!
And for those who don't get the racial overtones, watch the 2006 attack ad against Harold Ford Jr. of Tennessee, which also used a white, blonde bimbo. "The McCain campaign is simply trying to plant the old racist seed of black man hitting on young white woman." (Bill Press, Huffington Post, 7-31-08)

Omentum Do you really think neither of them will go negative? We are talking two politicians here who know their way around old politics. This campaign has been pretty tame to date.
If you want negative, try the attacks on McCain when he ran against Bush and they started a rumor that the child he and his wife adopted from Bangladesh was really the product of a bi-racial affair McCain supposedly engaged in.
Talk about trying to push racist buttons. Ford they implied dated white women but McCain supposedly fathered a bi-racial child. How about the far right implying the Clinton's had something to do with Foster's suicide, practically accusing them of murder?
I think in comparison to past elections both Obama and McCain have carried themselves fairly admirably to date.
