Obama Anti-Smear Website Names Alleged Smearers

July 09, 2008 11:57 AM

On the Obama campaign's "Fight the Smears" website the senator's smear-fighters are now naming names.

"Who is Behind these Lies?" the campaign asks, then listing a group of names -- David Bossie, Bob Perry, Floyd Brown, Craig Shirley, Bruce Hawkins, and James Lacy -- and organizations that the Obama campaign calls "Smears Inc.," tying them to previous political attacks such as the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, and the Willie Horton ad.

Interestingly, the Obama campaign fails to connect any of the "Smears" it disproves to any of these charter members of Smears Inc.

Not "Michelle Obama Says 'Whitey' On a Tape" nor "Barack Obama can't produce his birth certificate" nor "Obama's Books Contain Racially Incendiary Remarks" nor "Barack Obama Won't Say the Pledge of Allegiance & He Won't Put His Hand Over His Heart."

Nor does the website tie "Smear Inc." to the newest and latest smear making its way around the net: "Fake Maureen Dowd Column Alleging Obama’s Fundraising is Coming from Overseas Non-US Citizens." The fake MoDo column, allegedly from June 29, includes some nonsense about non-American citizens donating to the Obama campaign.

"FACT," says Fight the Smears, "Dowd wrote no such column. Her column on June 29th was about Hillary Clinton supporters."

But again, the MoDo smear is not tied by the Obama camp to Messrs. Bossie et al.

It's not as if "Fight the Smears" is reluctant to name names; the website ties the "Whitey" rumor to talk radio giant Rush Limbaugh, GOP operative Roger Stone, and Hillary Clinton supporting blogger Larry Johnson.

So what gives?

rhbate: It is not a shame to ask for donations.

It is a shame to see this multi-millionaire begging "hard-working Americans, white Americans) for donations of $10.00 and up. Her debt wouldn't be so large if she had quit her failed campaign when it became apparent to the whole world that she has lost. Yet, she chose to continue to attack Obama. McCain is now quoting her remarks in his own campaign against Obama. I would donate a wooden nickel to this MULTI-MILLIONAIRE.

Well, Obama seems to have modified his position on the Iraq troop withdrawal when faced with the reality of an American victory. OK, FIRST LESSON IN FOREIGN POLICY: "NEVER MAKE BLANK STATEMENTS ABOUT A SUBJECT YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT." Now, what about the IRAN/ISRAELI GUESTION? NEXT SEMESTER, OBAMA, THAT'S FOREIGN POLICY 201. Professor McCain will evaluate your progress on the subject.

McCain is getting by on his past glory. Today's McCain is nothing more than a cranky, hot tempered pandering senior citizen that will say anything or take any position to get elected. People like you flip over this flop.

She has also said that the money she loaned the campaign is not included in that pay back.

rhbate,
"Hillary has no shame! This multi-millionaire is asking for donations of $10.00 and up to help pay for a campaign bill "

Show me where she has said that. The news stories I have read the big donors were asked to help. Not the smaller ones that contribute to him. I haven't heard anything really from Hillary since their joint rally.

What makes you think McCain can even remember the lesson himself?

Posted by: brigitte | Jul 9, 2008 5:09:08 PM

Why would someone go to the website and listen to the lies, of a liar?

Obama sounds like a little kid in grade school. He tells the teacher that someone said something "not nice" about him. Poor-Baby...

They wont even try to debate my point, how sad, got to go.

What point do you want to debate? And I'll debate only if you agree to answer questions I direct at you, deal?

Posted by: brigitte | Jul 9, 2008 5:05:04 PM

Hillary has no shame! This multi-millionaire is asking for donations of $10.00 and up to help pay for a campaign bill she would not have had she not been so stubborn and continued it what was apparent, a failed campaign. Shame on her, asking for "hard-working Americans - white Americans" to get her out of hock. And the attacks she leveled against Obama are now being used against him. I wouldn't donate one thin dime to be used to help this multi-millionaire.

Posted by: rhbate | Jul 9, 2008 5:04:34 PM

Let the Obama followers pay off Hillary's campaign debt, then she can run independent and WIN !!!

Posted by: Jackie in ca | Jul 9, 2008 5:03:25 PM

J...why on earth would you do that?

Posted by: evagal | Jul 9, 2008 4:57:53 PM

Because I believe in my candidate. Hey there is a concept. You people keep bashing us Clinton supporters saying we should contribute to her. Well this one did.

Posted by: J | Jul 9, 2008 5:02:34 PM

Why should we donate to the Hillary campaign, when the Obamabots will pay the debt?

Posted by: Jack in FL | Jul 9, 2008 4:59:36 PM

Why on earth would people donate to the Clintons to pay off their campaign debt when they earned over 100 million dollars in the last few years? Are people that stupid? Reminds me of the boy who sold his bike and Wii, gave the money to Hillary and SHE TOOK IT! Talk about the reverse of the Robin Hood Syndrome. Take from the poor and give to the rich!

Posted by: evagal | Jul 9, 2008 4:48:50 PM

Well that kid seems to be smarter than most adults. He believed in something enough to give up his things.

J...why on earth would you do that?

Posted by: evagal | Jul 9, 2008 4:57:53 PM

First, he cried racist and now, he cries smear. What a baby. I can see his politics, cry until everyone listens.

Posted by: Jerome in MO | Jul 9, 2008 4:56:48 PM

Obviously you people don't read. Obama himself said he would not ask his small donors to help with the Clinton debt. The larger ones yes.

Oh, and BTW I am a Hillary supporter who did contribute to helping her pay down that debt.

Posted by: J | Jul 9, 2008 4:53:40 PM

Without Hillary, Obama is yesterday. Hillary made it clear, dance to my music, or I will run as an independent. Obama has no choice.

Posted by: Jerome in MO | Jul 9, 2008 4:53:02 PM

If they are so passionate about her(Hillary Clinton) a candidate, they should have come forward to help her get rid of her campaign debt. These supporters should hang their heads in shame.

You got that right. If their love for her is so great, let them help get this millionaire off the hook. Or was it just a lot of BS.

Posted by: rhbate | Jul 9, 2008 4:52:32 PM

Obama, afraid to debate. I can see the "change", now. Being afraid is the Obama answer. Obama is a great talker, but little on substance.
