Obama to NYT: ‘A Week of Great Press’ but ‘We Don't BUY Our Own Hype’
July 26, 2008 1:09 PM
In an interview with the New York Times' excellent Jeff Zeleny, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., says he's not "measuring the drapes" for the Oval Office, and that "we don't buy our own hype."
He discussed the risks of his international tour, saying, "In terms of raw politics, in the short term there's just as much downside as upside to a trip like this, even when it's well-executed. People at home are worried about gas prices, they're worried about mortgage foreclosures -- and for a week they're seeing me traipse around the world? It's easy to paint that as somehow being removed from people's day-to-day problems. We thought it was worth the risk."
He added, “We're in a very tight race, despite having a week of great press and John McCain having had a week of not-so-great press. If that doesn't keep you on your toes, I don't know what will."
That said, Obama thinks this trip will serve a political purpose.
"Even if the economy ends up being the dominant issue in the election, when people go to the polling place in November, [they will] have in the back of their mind, all right, here's what it looks like for Obama to be in discussions with other heads of state."

Obama to NYT: ‘A Week of Great Press’ but ‘We Don't BUY Our Own Hype’

For all of you people who say that the war was a mistake, think back about what was going on before our troops went in. Hussein and his goons were killing people for no reason. They were terrorizing the entire country. The women could not leave their homes with out a man or they would be burned to death.....
That may not be the reason for the war but for the sake of those people who are now safe, I'm the US did what it did.

The crowd's size was beefed up by the fact that the event was billed as a free rock concert for German citizens, with popular musical performers helping to draw the big crowd. The media didn't mention this. Slickness without substance seemed to be the enduring theme of his trip. Among the little hiccups covered by the major media, there were several gaffes on the global coronation trip. When he stated his committee, the banking committee passed a bill to help home owners. #1. He does not chair the banking committee. #2. He not even on the banking committee. Media didn't catch that one. Without the photo opportunity and his press entourage, Obama declined to meet the wounded soldiers. But there were political signs spelled in German. One doesn't pass getting donors over seas.

Obama the only bad press I heard was about you!!
Lets see Obama made powwhow with the countries responsible for us being in Iraq, because of Germany and France and the oil for food scandal during Clinton term Hussein (Iraq Former President , Not Obama) would of been out of office in 95!
So they are real good friends of ours!!
Obama calling us torturers is not good either!!

"To some people Mccain may be old and boring..."
And to most of us he's old and terrifying:
“The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He’s erratic. He’s hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me.” --Thad Cochran (R-MS)

Mary Anne, I think the only women you speak for are Mary and Anne. I know a lot of women who are extremely excited about Barack becoming U.S. President and I don't see the contempt you express. I doubt if it's authethic. What rock have you been under...or just maybe you're doing your postings from GOP HQ. After Barack defeats McCain in November, I guess you're spend the next four years running interference.

Wow, are a lot of you commenters going to be disappointed for the next 8 years.

Clearly Obama expects everyone else to buy his hype. Nice moment of unexpected candor to see him admit that he doesn't even buy it himself. His "change we can believe in" machine now has him signing up two Bush economic advisers (geniuses both) and peddling an expansion of Bush's horrible faith based initiatives program. What next--a mission accomplished trip abroad. But then O just did that, didn't he?

Senator Obama, welcome home. Now just tell us how in a hundred words or less how you are going to bring back the Clinton-type years of prosperity to our country, our jobs, lower gas prices, eliminate home foreclosures, bring down crime and poverty. Remember. do it in 100 word or less.
--Oh my, you don't know---------------
Then go back to Europe.

obama you are NOT qualified - BUT you sure are Arrogant!
You are an Arrogant, Radical FRAUD!
I will not vote for you - and Millions of Americans feel the same way.
Your entire campaign and your circus trip are one big stage show - your every move is for your own political gain and you will never win.

I am still wondering, if economy is the issue, can someone please explain to me how BO is qualified to address economic issues in background or experience? Can anyone articulate what his plans are for the economy other than to raise taxes on the wealthy and corporations? Also, how does that translate into economic improvement?
And noone better say, well McCain intimated that he was UNqualified. That is not an answer.

Senator Obama stated "We don't buy own own hype." That is true, he lets the taxpayers pay for it. Obama is a world class con-man.

My goodness , Can Obama make sense without a teleprompter??? What is it that he is trying to say here???
and they thought Bush was dumb!!!
Posted by: john galt | Jul 27, 2008 3:11:27 PM
Why is it that so many times when Obama is criticized for something, his supporters point out that Bush has/had that same characteristic? How is that helping Obama? It's true though; Obama=Bush in far too many ways, giving us 8 years of proof that he isn't fit to be POTUS.

Just shows the Europeans are just as naive as the Americans that are falling for Obama's empty promises of change.
When I see Obama grinning and strutting around on stage in front of huge crowds I have to turn the channel.
Obama wants America to be like Europe. High taxes and an enormous cost of living.

Obama is like a spoiled little child who will stoop at anything to be the center of attention. He should grow up already!

A WEEK OF GREAT PRESS IS WHAT OBAMA SAYS? Is that the kind of person we want elected President? The kind of person who worries and wants great press for himself? Instead of staying on course with the issues, etc? If he is elected it will only be more of the same. He is all about theatrics! He is a joke!

vuzous;
Yes, keep telling yourself that about the polls. We want to defeat Obama in November so people like yourself are very helpful to our cause. He treated the Clintons like dirt and they have more savvy and experience than Obama has in his little finger! He bashed all women in the world when he sexually bashed Hillary Clinton and we don't need a person like him. We didn't need George Wallace and we don't need him either. I am doing everythng in my power to see that he is not elected as President in November. And, I don't care if the new voters who came out for Obama lose interest and never vote again. We would have been better off if they didn't vote this time because they nominated an inexperienced and politics as usual gasbag for the Democratic party. Many women will not vote again either, for a Democratic candidate, that is. I am voting straight Republican until the Democratic cleans up their act. They are a bunch of losers and they wonder why we can't get anyone elected? What about this don't they get! They're idiots!

View from Canada: Don't they have televisin and world news up there where you live? Schneider said on world news yesterday that McCain was pulling ahead of Obama in many key states. You better get current on your current events. I will do everything in my power to see that Obama is never elected President and/or never even elected to dogcatcher is I have anything to say about it. We didn't George Wallace with his prejudice and we do not need Obama with his prejudice against women. I hope his campaign crashes and burns in November! The man is a buffoon!
